Hello hello! I'm excited to announce my submission for the Monstrous Desires 2024 Jam: Astronought is out! 🌑🎉

If you're interested, I really hope it's not with the expectations that it'll be similar to MO. I really wanted to try out different things with a new character and had a lot of fun with the process!

Be sure to heed the general warnings, and if you're sensitive to body horror,,, maybe sit this one out hjhs (tbh it's my first time attempting it so it's probably not even that graphic but just a heads up! There will be mentions of fleshy things!)

Legacy challenge

You like darkness?You like mischeif or want to get used to using different traits and aspirations???Well i got a challenge made just for you!

This challenge is designed for getting users used to using different traits,and if your just craving evil or a new adventure!

Basic rules-

1.Must have your familys heir max out their required skills,and a unique last name.

2.stick to gen color pallete.

3.Must start with a tiny home(built by yourself,alresdy existing,or from the gallery) however you are alowed to move in with a townie but not when you just finished making your household,only when you have. Relationship(friendly or romantic, doesn't matter).

4.Only 1,800 funds

5. House must be black and other colors that must be dark(something similar to bella goths home)

6.Sexuality of your choice

7.The generations base colors must be the color of the room and their favorite colors.

8.You are allowed to use more than the required traits for each gen but only,hates children,mean,evil,active,art lover,foodie,and lazy.

9.color of spouse doesn't matter unless they are not townies and made by you or found in the gallery.

10.each gen must rep their color in make up,clothes, jewelry,ect.

11.you can pick Aspirations for sims in every generation besides the 1st one.the only limit is in every generation at least 1 sims has to have the mischeif aspiration.

12.Each sim in each generation MUST have at least 2 enemies and have done at least 1 mischeif/mean interaction.

13.this challenge is similar to the rags to riches challenge so you cannot get a job til The second Generation,in generation one you must find a way to make money without a job and without cheats.(ex. Marrying a townie and moving in,pickpocketing,painting,fishing ect.)

14.must have lifespan set to normal or short.

(Extra- some generations have a aspiration to it,the aspiration only applies to the 1st born of that gen.any without an aspiration you can pick any aspiration you want

Questions-

Who will the the next heir once the 1st one dies?The 1st born[if the 1st born is dead,than the 2nd) or who ever would be fun to play with.

Why so many traits?In each generation there could be more than 1 sim it it wouldn't be fun to plsy with sims who are exactly the same.

Why more than 1 aspiration for the gen?So you can have options for aspirations.

How do i know if i completed the challenge?

When(by chance)you family tree dies out by all of your sims dying,or you finish each gen.

Do i have to max out all these skills?No,

In each generation there is 2-4 skills choose 1 to max out for 1 sim.(if you have more than 3 sims in that gen,yes you can use a skill thats already been picked.)

IVE BEEN UP HERE A FEW TIMES.... LAST TIME I REBOOTED AN OLD SYSTEM..... THATS HOW I KNOW IVE BEEN MONITORING THE WEATHER.... OF COURSE AS CIVILLIAN COMMANDER IVE BEEN ON A FEW MISSIONS.... ON ONE ENCOUNTER A SPACESTATION HAD AN INTERGALACTIC EMERGENCY.... THE COMPUTER HAD BLOWN A LARGE FUSE THIS WAS A PROGRAMMING MALFUNCTION AND I HAD 14 HOURS TO GET THERE TO FIX THE SYSTEM BEFORE LIFE SUPPORT SHUT DOWN AND A FURTHER 4 ENERGENCY HOURS IF THE ASTRONOUGHTS PUT ON THEIR SPACE SUITS..... UPON GETTING THERE I FOUND IT TO BE A SIMPLE MALFUCTION AND AN ENCOUNTER OF THE ALIEN JOVO ABOARD THE STATION TOOK PLACE.... I LOCKED THE GALACTIC PRICK IN AN AIRLOCK FOR THE REST OF THE CREWS SAFETY.... TO BE REMOVED ON THE NEXT TRANSPORT DOWN WHICH WAS ON ITS WAY.... BECAUSE IT WAS HISTERICAL.... DUDE okay so I came across the clip of what a black hole “sounds like” 

and it reminded me of this old horror game idea I came up with based on a similar video about the “sounds of the solar system”

and so basically the premise is, you’re an astronought. it’s one of those games where everything is like, flat pictures n stuff, right? like you just click through it. 

So, when you begin the game, it’s completely silent. No noise at all. (maybe the Black hole sounds could be the title screen?)

you’re an astrounought, and you are in a space station. The text on screen prompts you to either leave the room, or adjust the radio (which has a red light, and is beeping every minute or so) (you do so by using the left or right arrow keys, I think.)

When you choose to go to the next room, which people usually tend to do, You are presented with a window to the outside, showing the earth, from the outside/space view. This view is as per what you would expect from a space station, and quite stunning. While in this room, the beeping speeds up to about a beep every 40 seconds. If you try to go right again, as to continue to the next room, you are met with a red message something along the lines of “I need to check the comms”

When you inevitably investigate the radio, there is for a moment very loud static, but that static subsides mostly, and through it you hear this ethereal ringing noise, something quite like the sound produced by a “singing bowl” (These, of course, are actually the “sounds” of pluto) and after a period of this (in which your camera is zoomed onto the radio, and you are told you should “listen to the radio in case you can make something out” anytime ) It becomes distorted and odd (still the “sounds” of pluto) before cutting out, leaving only static, as the camera zooms out, theres a low bang, and all light except for the red light from the radio dissapears.

this goes on for about 3 seconds, before power suddenly comes back on, and the radio again goes dead silent. Now beeping faster by about 10 seconds. there is a message across the bottom of the screen (words said by you) saying

“something doesn’t feel right.”

Then you are once again given the choice to either go to the other room, or try to fix the radio. 

This time, however, if/when you go to the other room, the earth is completely absent from view, the only “spacemark” (landmark) in view being a white dot about the size of a quarter (probably about the width of a pinky finger on most computer screens) to the upper right corner of the window. A message is displayed on the bottom of the screen

“what... Just happened?” If you click on the white dot, by chance, a message is displayed

“Looks like the moon.”

And again, when you go to fix the radio, after a short struggle, you’re able to tap into what is almost entirely static, but seems to fade into a more constant, almost Wind-like sound (Neptunes “sound”), a barely audible deeper tone playing before the wind-ness spiked back into pure static, and the same thing that happened last time repeats, this time, the dark lasting about a second longer after the static fades out. A message is displayed as the lights flick back on:

“again? What is going on with this thing?”

It starts again, you are given the choice to go to the other room or fix the radio, the beeping emitted from the radio once again increasing in frequency by about 10 seconds (now about every 40 seconds)

When/if you go to the other room this time, the beep time stays the same, and as you look through the window, you are greeted with a very, very unexpected view, a planet, quite blue, as is earth, but completely devoid of anything else. Neptune. You are quite a bit farther from this planet than you were earth, and a notification pops up in the top right corner, something along the lines of

*your breath is getting heavy.*

There is a moment where nothing happens, then a message is shown on the bottom once again, reading

“I gotta tell someone about this.”

You are now given the choices (on the top left corner of the screen, as they usually are) to either go left to the radio, or go right, to “tell someone” (which is written in red)

If you choose to go right, the screen goes dark for a second, and there is the sound of a giggling door handle, and a latch. Suddenly, the beeping of the radio gets significantly faster, and speeds up, increasing in frequency considerably before becoming constant and shrill, almost like an electronical scream. 

The screen lights up again, and you are in front of the Radio. The only difference between this and going there in the first place being a message in the top right reading

You go to fix the radio again. This time, the static is less agressive, and scattered with beeps and tones, as you try to make out the sounds, a scattered voice comes through, being captioned something along the lines of

[He--o? do y--- rea---... Is th^- Spa*-e Sta---n ---0--?] This is the only human voice heard in the game, as your own voice is only captioned, not read. It is clearly distressed, and seems to be very concerned, yet focused on getting through to you. it goes silent for a moment, a reply is displayed on the bottom of the screen:

“yes, I read. Is this-” you are seemingly interrupted by the voice cracking through the static once again, saying something like

[re--^rn t() --E --^--*. Y()- Are --*ing _^aced ()n #mer-n^y S*-tus. R./-/..-/.-./-. immedi-] It cuts off, and fades to static like the others...

okay that’s all i’m doing rn. Theres the base idea. I’m getting tired of writing now. If anyone wants the rest just ask and i’ll be glad to continue

I adore your new game! The sound effects were lovely chosen! And the art amazing! Especially that body horror! Question question! What if Mychael and Atom met? And what if they both have the same yn? Who would win in a fight for yn basically?

HI AGAIN; first of all knowing Atom is someone's hear me out is a HUGE compliment omg,, and thank you!! Surprisingly a lot of people didn't expect the twist (if I could call it that, I felt like I couldn't be subtle about it even if I tried haha) but knowing it caught people off guard makes me happy <3

I ramble about it below but short answer: Atom would win, sorry Mychael. 💔 Also Alma cameo.

Atom and Mychael having the same MC is definitely possible. Both games feature kindhearted MCs as the protagonists (or at least I try to write them that way! Since kindness is the trait they're attracted to) so the chances of both falling for the same individual in this alternate setting is highly likely haha.

I know the ask is between Atom and Mychael, but now that I have like,, three non-human love interest characters I'll include Alma too since it is kinda fun to compare the three.

Despite being the most popular, I think Mychael would get his ass beat by both Atom and Alma. His hypnosis and mind-altering powers are useless against them both, like how do you even brainwash a specter and a can of worms? Meanwhile they can completely annihilate him if they wanted to with Alma's shapeshifting and supernatural influence and Atom's,,,uh,,, skills,,,

You'd think a being associated with rot and decay (mushrooms) would have a chance, though I'm pretty sure worms are better at it than fungus. The ghost is just there to spectate, they can't be harmed in a way that matters. /ref

Also, how did you come up with Atom and their species? I’ve never seen a character in a vn that’s multiple in one like Atom, and I find the concept of it super cool!

Waa thank you!! I've said it over and over but it was really fun experimenting with the visuals. If any of you are familiar with Slay the Princess, a lot of the kinetic bits are inspired by that game!

I'm gonna start answering asks about the game so if you haven't played and want to, I advice blacklisting #astronought vn? I think that's how it works,,

Anyhoo I was really nervous about the reception with Atom since their design is so out there but so far everyone's liking the new silly?? Spoilers below but I go into detail on designing them a bit (tw//worms):

Initially they were gonna be an amorphous shape-shifting blob similar to Venom, but as I developed the game further just the idea of worms piloting a suit and invading your ship just creeped me out enough I wanted to illustrate it hahaha! So I dropped the shape-shifting aspect and just made them a pile of worms in a trenchcoat.

In a way what made me like their design so much is just how much I'd be grossed out from it in real life,,, but hey!! It's monstrous desires jam for a reason!! Get out of here with the humanoid garbage, it's icky spaghetti all the way!! /silly
