The Recipe
It was a recipe for disaster. At least, that's what the book said. Mayhem, malice, and everything between. Ingredients salt, oil, candles, goat's milk, one clove of garlic and a smattering of cloves. Preparation time twenty-five minutes. Summons a demon and binds them to their master's will.
Serves one.
"Are you sure this is the real deal?"
"I don't know." Roz had found it in one of the old books upstairs, the dusty tomes she collected as much for the aesthetic as anything else. "I guess there's only one way to find out."
"I mean, shouldn't it be eye of newt, toe of frog, and all that?" Mari was a close enough friend to humour Roz's eccentricities, but that didn't mean she didn't harbour her own doubts. "Not stuff that we can pick up from the local supermarket."
"I just hope that table salt is fine," Roz said, pouring some in a wide circle on the floorboards. "They didn't have those fancier pots of seasalt flakes, or the pink Himalayan stuff you see nowadays."
"I don't see how it matters," Mari said. "It's salt. What's it going to do? Surely any demon worth his salt won't be deterred by some."
"How should I know? Maybe they're like snails."
"My dad says you can put down bark, or copper, and it works the same in your garden. Do you think a copper ring would work on demons?"
"I don't even know that this one will." Roz threw her hands up in the air, accidentally spraying a handful of salt across the room. "Look, I don't know if demons are real, or if this ritual is real, or if I'm doing any of this properly. But I'm going to try it, and we'll just see what happens."
With Mari's questions out of the way, Roz proceeded with the remaining set up: a chalk pentagram within the circle, dribbly candles at opposite points outside it, and a stick of incense that only seemed to incense her asthma. Her personal hell was a perfume shop, or one of those places that sold rainbow coloured bath bombs, so perhaps her person demon would feel suitably at home.
She took a puff on her inhaler, reached out for Mari to hold her hand, and began to read the incantation from the page. It was in Latin script, but not in any language she recognised, so she hoped that her pronunciation was close enough. She'd struggled in French at school, and this felt like it had slight higher stakes: as much as she'd feared the displeasure of Mme Blanc, she hadn't carried the threat of damnation to the underworld.
"Oh, great. Teenage girls. Why am I not surprised?"
The demon arrived in a foul mood. He was short, covered in crimson spines, and slightly smoking at the edges, but he wasn't entirely unlike Mme Blanc in his demeaning demeanour. Someone had clearly surfaced from the wrong side of the sulphur pit.
"Uh, hi." Mari was looking to Roz to say something, but she wasn't sure what that was. The book hadn't been clear on that part, and she hadn't even expected to get this far. Did they introduce themselves, or was it a bad idea to give their names? Was that demons or elves? "Thank you for coming."
"You say that like I had a choice."
"Sorry. So... what's the deal here? Do we get three wishes or something?" Mari gave her a nudge. "Is that together, or each?"
"Free samples?" the demon answered scathingly. "No, there's only one deal here. You can have anything that it's in my power to give. But first, you must pledge over your soul."
"Oh." Roz looked over at Mari, who seemed equally lost. "Can we have some time to consider?"
"Sure, waste more of my time." The demon seemed to smoke more when he was annoyed. Perhaps that had been why he was smoking to start with. "It's not like I'm busy."
"Thanks."
The friends backed away into a corner, not knowing whether it made the slightest bit of difference as to whether the demon could listen in, but feeling the need for some veneer of privacy. Roz kept a subtle eye on him in turn, but he seemed to have taken the opportunity to sit down and rest his head in clawed hands. Even if he could hear them, he looked like he would try his best not to.
"Did you have any thoughts?" she whispered.
"You mean you didn't think this through?" Mari asked in turn, her whisper more urgent. "Even with the three wishes thing?"
"I wished for it to work. I never thought it would."
"Doesn't the recipe say anything?"
"No." Roz double-checked the instructions, but there was no serving suggestion. "I've got nothing off the top of my head. I'm guessing you're the same?"
"I'm just here to back you up. You can do whatever you like, but I don't want any part of any deal for myself."
"Fair enough," she said, then gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "Thank you."
They returned to the edge of the circle, where the table salt lay undisturbed. If the demon could cross it, he didn't seem to have tried; if this was his portal back to hell, Roz supposed this was the equivalent of loitering in the doorway, waiting to be allowed to leave.
"Sorry," she told him. "I don't think there's anything I want more than my soul, really. It's kind of my most valuable possession."
"Of course," the demon sighed, but he didn't look surprised. "Another cold call, just wasting my time. Are you going to banish me now?"
"Almost," Roz said. Something about the way he'd said it made her pause. "What about you?"
"Excuse me?"
"Is there anything that's in our power to give? Forgive me for prying, but you don't exactly seem too happy in your current role. Job satisfaction is important. Are there opportunities for advancement, work-afterlife balance, that sort of thing?"
"Oh." For the first time since they'd summoned him, he seemed interested in what she had to say. "I don't know. I haven't really thought about it, not knowing any alternatives."
"We can help with that." Roz looked over to Mari, who nodded. "We can't offer any otherworldly pleasures, but, well... worldly pleasures? We can start off small, if you like. Have you ever tried a cookie?"

There was a spark of interest in Viktor's eyes. His work stood out. A bubble of excitement mixed with the dread in his gut. He didn't want to get ahead of himself, but this felt promising, very promising. "It is a shame few are willing to be so bold," He politely added.
Frankly he didn't get along with most of his peers, they were wrapped up in their own ideas and many of them thought themselves better for having degrees not funded through a program and inherently knowing the pronunciation of words that for a long time Viktor had only read. And many of them played it safe, content to just settle. He wasn't sure though just how much of this disdain would be good to share with Necrosis, if it without endear him or simply make it seem like Viktor was the problem himself.
He gave a slight shake of his head but could tell that Necrosis wasn't really asking. It was an odd form of kinship, Viktor couldn't help but think of his own softened bones, the pins in his spine holding him together, how his joints ached. Great minds in bodies that couldn't help but self destruct.
Little did he know but in his lungs new cells were growing, mutated and cancerous, and too small to notice hidden under the narrow airways and coughing fits of his asthma.
"Thank you for sharing, and for the recognition," While he didn't feel at ease with Necrosis yet, he did earnestly mean those words. "I am happy to have made my way here, and look forward to what comes next,"
He had caught onto the fact that Necrosis appreciated ambition, and purposefully was trying to play into that a little. Depending how it went, perhaps he'd share more of his ambition.
Viktor had tried to keep clear of Necrosis' movement, if he had to guess the mask probably limited his peripheral vision, and Viktor didn't want to get accidentally knocked to the floor. A test huh? He thought to himself, a little nervous.
His movement was slow, the curse of a bad pain day, but he did move to follow Necrosis. "Let's," He affirmed, not letting his nervousness show. Calm and confident, that was how he'd get through this.
There was never, ever, a moment he let down his guard around Father Necrosis, and he was very controlled about when he drew attention to himself. His softly stoic expression didn't change as the man laughed.
"Mm, yes. That would be it," He confirmed, remembering the hours of sleep sacrificed to get it functioning. Not to mention the actual danger it had put him in, one misstep and - he'd shudder if he weren't with company.
"I hope it's not rude to correct, but I decided to do it because of, not despite, the risk. I have the upmost respect for my colleagues, but am not certain how they'd handle the stress. I knew I could take it," A bold statement yes, but one he was willing to dare. All it ultimately said was 'I'm willing and able to be useful in situations others aren't', which was practically painting a target on his own back, but that was another risk he just had to stomach. People like him don't make it without taking risks.
The blueprints were in loose groups, though that would be hard to tell for anyone not there when he set them down. Viktor's blueprints were always incredibly detailed, and had every single margin full of notes, and while he was working on them had post it notes stuck onto them with tiny neat cyrillic script going over his own personal thoughts.
Viktor kept his composure as Father Necrosis turned his attention fully onto him. It made him feel, examined in the same way the corpse on an autopsy table was.
He drummed his fingers on the handle of his cane (which he wasn't putting much weight on at the moment, his leg was aching but he refused to show vulnerability) as he thought. Finally he replied.
"My whole life has been a struggle to make progress, from the health scares of my childhood to the sacrifices my parents made to get me into schooling. I refuse to be halted, or to slow down. In short, I'm willing to go as far as it takes so long as it yields progress,"

What is a pizza?
Pizza is a type of flatbread that is generally topped with tomato and cheese before being cooked in an oven. It is frequently topped with a variety of meats, veggies, and condiments. Modern pizza was originated in Naples, Italy, and the meal and its varieties have since gained popularity and widespread acceptance around the world. Pizza is a popular fast-food item in Europe, Australia, and North America, and is available fresh or frozen, whole or in parts.

It's unmistakably "peetsa" in both British and American English. There is no other way to pronounce it. If your accent has a faint "d" sound, I wouldn't be too concerned, and others should be understanding.

Hi! I had a question about the ending of some adjectives. When I was studying abroad in Spain I noticed my host mom refer to cold water as “agua fría” which kind of confused me since agua is a masculine noun- is it because it sounds better/flows better and are there any other examples of where this happens?
Okay, so agua is TECHNICALLY feminine. It takes the masculine el to keep you from swallowing the A sounds… la + agua would sound like “lagua”
French and Italian have similar concepts, though they normally use apostrophes, or they change something depending on a certain letter/phoneme
It’s similar to how English says “a” or “an” depending on if a word starts with a strong vowel sound or not.
Going more in depth, allow me to copy/paste from a separate ask:
The rules for this type of noun are as follows:
These are words that begin with A- or HA- [where the H is silent]
These words are actually feminine
These words have their tonic stress on the first syllable
These words take a masculine article in singular, but are feminine in nature
This applies to definite articles [el] and indefinite articles [un], as well as the derivatives of them [algún, ningún]
In plural, these words will always be feminine plural [las, unas, algunas]
The article or determiner must be before the noun to appear as masculine and this doesn’t apply if the article/determiner is broken up by another word in between
Btw, these are not rules that are ever really stated except for when you see el agua or something and then the dictionary usually says (f) or something right near it so you know it’s feminine. They’re just things native speakers know based on what sounds right.
Linguistically, this is something that’s done to create something like a “hiatus” [I don’t know if that’s the correct term for this, but a “hiatus” is a vocal stop/obstacle that makes you fully enunciate all the vowels in a word]
In other words if you had agua which means water” as “la agua”, the two A’s would run together into one sound. This might sound arbitrary to us, but it impacts Spanish poetry quite a bit. In English “la agua” for example is 3 syllables “la-a-gua”. In Spanish, it would be 2 syllables “laa-gua”.
In Spanish, the same vowel or vowel sounds put together tend to bleed together. If you say something like va a ayudar “he/she is going to help” it is “vaaa-yu-dar” for Spanish counting as 3 syllables here.
The break up of sounds with the addition of a masculine article is done for the sake of pronunciation so the words don’t blend together.
Italian has this same issue except they correct it with an apostrophe, and just allow the sounds to sort of blend so you get “l’acqua”… in pronunciation it runs together, in orthography [writing it out] the L and the apostrophe help mark it as a definite article.
To talk more about this I’ll go over each of the things because it makes more sense in context.
1 - 3: The word must begin with A- or HA-, be feminine, and have the emphasis on the first syllable.
The following words are the most common nouns that follow this example are:
el agua = water
el águila = eagle
el arpa = harp
el ancla = anchor
el ánfora = amphora (a specific type of Greek or Roman vase)
el área = area
el hambre = hunger, famine
el ala = wing
el aula = classroom
el haba = bean [kind of an old-fashioned word, la habichuela “bean” is related and is more common today]
el alma = soul
el alba = dawn [there’s also the word el amanecer which is more common]
el hada = fairy
el arma = weapon
el asma = asthma
el habla = manner of speech, diction, way of speaking
el alta = membership (to a club) / discharge (from a hospital)
el arca = ark / large chest, coffer [a very common word used for “treasure chest” in games for example]
el ave = bird (as a species, usually) / fowl
el álgebra = algebra
el alga / las algas = algae
el ascua = ember
el aura = aura
And all of these are feminine, and have their stress on the first syllable.
Consider a word like el árbol which begins in A- and has its stress on the first syllable. It’s also masculine, so it’s el árbol, los árboles. The same problem exists with el álamo “poplar tree”.
Then you have a word like la ayuda “help” which begins in A- and is feminine, but its stressed syllable is the second one [the “yu”] which makes it take the word feminine instead.
The best examples of this duality are:
el ánimo = spirit, cheer, mood / male spirit, animusel ánima = soul (of the dead), shade, dead person’s spirit / female spirit, anima
el hado / los Hados = fate / the Fates [the women in Greek/Roman mythology who spin the tapestry of fate and measure out people’s lives and end them]el hada / las hadas = fairy / fairies, the fey, feyfolk
While el ánimo and el hado fit two big requirements [beginning with A- or HA-, and having the stressed syllable be the first one], they are both masculine so it doesn’t count.
But el ánima and el hada are both feminine so they fit the bill.
4. They’re “masculine” with the article, but have feminine qualities
This is an important grammatical point to make. Though they have masculine articles, that’s only done for pronunciation and spelling. Their grammatical gender is still feminine, so all the adjectives put on them are feminine:
el águila calva = bald eagle
el agua bendita = holy water
el Hada Madrina = Fairy Godmotherel hada buena = good fairyel hada malvada = evil/wicked fairy
el ave acuática, las aves acuáticas = waterfowl
el arma de fuego, las armas de fuego = firearm, firearmsel arma peligrosa, las armas peligrosas = dangerous weapon, dangerous weapons
el alma perdida = lost soul
el ancla pesada = the heavy anchor
This also impacts whether you see al or del:
Los Juegos del Hambre = Hunger Games
el ala del águila calva = the bald eagle’s winglas alas de las águilas calvas = the bald eagles’ wings
las sillas del aula = the classroom’s chairslas sillas de las aulas = the classrooms’ chairs
el capitán / la capitana del arca = the captain of the ark
5. Another grammatical distinction is that these apply to el, un, algún, or ningún but as stated before, they’re still feminine technically:

6. In plural, they’re all distinctly feminine with feminine articles

las hadas buenas = the good fairiesunas hadas buenas = a few good fairiesalgunas hadas buenas = some good fairies
*There’s (generally) no plural of ningún, ninguno, ninguna. It’s inherently singular since it more literally means “not one”… like no hay ninguna silla is “there are no chairs” in English but literally reads as “there is not a single chair”
7. The article/determiner MUST be right in front of the noun for it to appear as masculine in singular.
Because this is all done for preserving the A- or HA- sound, the rules no longer apply when a word breaks up the article/determiner and the noun. Usually what breaks up the words is an adjective, or an adverb + adjective combo.
This is typically more dramatic [since most of the time adjectives go behind nouns in Spanish, so putting it in front is SUPER dramatic]… or it’s one of the adjectives that sort of changes meaning depending on its placement like viejo/a, mismo/a, gran/grande, antiguo/a etc.
When these show up, you get a feminine article/determiner and feminine adjectives:
la gran arma = the great weaponuna gran arma = a great weaponalguna gran arma = some great weaponninguna gran arma = no great weapon
la misma agua = the same waterel agua misma = the water itself
la buena hada = the good fairy [like, “the kind fairy” or “the nice fairy”]el hada buena = the good fairy
la complicada habla = the EXTREMELY complicated way of speaking [reads as, “intricate” or “perplexing” or “ever-so-complicated” instead of just plain old “complicated”]el habla complicada = the complicated way of speaking
la nueva álgebra = new algebra
el hambre grave = serious hungerla grave hambre = serious famine [the word “famine” can either be el hambre (f) or la hambruna]
el ascua ardiente = the burning emberla ardiente ascua = the smoldering ember [more dramatic and poetic]
el ala grande = the big wingla gran ala = the great wing
When you’ve got the article/determiner + the noun, you need the masculine article to create that “hiatus”
When you’ve got the article/determiner + adjective + noun, the adjective already breaks them up and creates its own kind of hiatus.
The problem isn’t the noun itself, so you can have la buena hada… the problem is that Spanish decided they wanted to preserve the sound of the article/determiner by switching it to masculine and creating that stop with the L

Hola! I'm reading the book Todas las hadas del reino at the moment and was wondering-would you happen to know why the word "hada" can take both the masculine and feminine article? Is it "el hada" in the singular and "las hadas" in the plural, or is there something else going on here?? Muchas gracias por la ayuda!
Okay, so hada is one of the words that work like el agua “water”. And I’m going to give you a very in-depth run through of it all, so bear with me because it’s not difficult, exactly, but there’s a lot to explain.
[also if I have typos somewhere in this let me know, it’s a lot of writing and my proofreading skills are terrible]
The article or determiner must be before the noun to appear as masculine and this doesn’t apply if the article/determiner is broken up by another word in between
Btw, these are not rules that are ever really stated except for when you see el agua or something and then the dictionary says (f) right near it so you know it’s feminine. They’re just things native speakers know based on what sounds right.
Linguistically, this is something that’s done to create something like a “hiatus” [I don’t know if that’s the correct term for this, but a “hiatus” is a vocal stop/obstacle that makes you fully enunciate all the vowels in a word]
In other words if you had agua which means “water” as “la agua”, the two A’s would run together into one sound.
The following words are the most common nouns that follow this example are:
el agua = water
el águila = eagle
el arpa = harp
el ancla = anchor
el ánfora = amphora (a specific type of Greek or Roman vase)
el área = area
el hambre = hunger, famine
el ala = wing
el aula = classroom
el haba = bean [kind of an old-fashioned word, but related to “abacus”, and la habichuela “bean” which is more common today]
el alma = soul
el alba = dawn [there’s also the word el amanecer which is more common]
el hada = fairy
el arma = weapon
el asma = asthma
el habla = manner of speech, diction, way of speaking
el alta = membership (to a club) / discharge (from a hospital)
el arca = ark / large chest, coffer [a very common word used for “treasure chest” in games for example]
el ave = bird (as a species, usually) / fowl
el álgebra = algebra
el alga / las algas = algae
el ascua = ember
el aura = aura
4. They’re masculine but have feminine qualities
5. Another grammatical distinction is that these apply to el, un, algún, or ningún but as stated before, they’re still feminine technically:
el aula pequeña = the small classroomun aula pequeña = a small classroomalgún aula pequeña = some small classroomningún aula pequeña = no small classroom
el arma peligrosa = the dangerous weaponun arma peligrosa = a dangerous weaponalgún arma peligrosa = some dangerous weaponningún arma peligrosa = no dangerous weapon
el águila calva = the bald eagleun águila calva = a bald eaglealgún águila calva = some bald eagleningún águila calva = no bald eagle
el hada buena = the good fairyun hada buena = a good fairyalgún hada buena = some good fairyningún hada buena = no good fairy
el hambre verdadera = (the) true hungerun hambre verdadera = a true hungeralgún hambre verdadera = some true hungerningún hambre verdadera = no true hunger
*these are all for the sake of example
6. In plural, they’re all distinctly feminine with feminine articles
las aulas pequeñas = the small classroomsunas aulas pequeñas = a few small classroomsalgunas aulas pequeñas = some small classrooms
las arma peligrosas = the dangerous weaponsunas armas peligrosas = a few dangerous weaponsalgunas armas peligrosas = some dangerous weapons
las águilas calvas = the bald eaglesunas águilas calvas = a few bald eaglesalgunas águilas calvas = some bald eagles
las hadas buenas = the good fairiesunas hadas buenas = a few good fairiesalgunas hadas buenas = some good fairies
*There’s no plural of ningún, ninguno, ninguna.
Also, side note, I have seen people write “la hada” (especially when it’s a female fairy), but that’s technically considered incorrect.
And a further side note: I did use Italian as an example with l’acqua but also note that Italian has further differences with articles depending on certain vowels or consonants so they also do have the same issues and different related issues, but it affects their grammar differently.
Spanish is a little simpler in that regards since we only have to worry about A- and HA- in singular, and Italian has things like i, gli, lo etc depending on other factors.
We also have something sort of like this in English with our use of “a” vs “an” for vowel sounds. It’s done for the sake of pronunciation, but a different kind of pronunciation… like how “a eagle” or “a hour” sound a bit strange or wrong note, so we say “an eagle” and “an hour”
English is also a bit bizarre in that “a historic” and “an historic” are both considered correct

Shit I Pulled In High School - Part 2
ALL RIGHT YOU ALL ASKED FOR MORE SO HERE WE GO 7th grade - Snuck back inside the school during a fire to rescue my bookbag and avoided getting caught by pretending I was in the baseball field and couldn't hear the alarms ( which was true enough , you couldn't hear shit from out that far , but I was ACTUALLY in the science lab when the alarms went off and just busted ass across campus to my locker and then hid in the baseball field ( bitch I wasn't about to leave my bag in there , I was reading Naruto manga , wasn't gonna let Gaara burn ) - Waged a brutal three day war over the proper pronunciation of Neji Hyuuga's name with my friend , I won when she actually googled it - Got caught drawing kunai knives and shuriken , convinced math teacher they were not in fact pagan Satanic symbols but instead symbols of a noble ancient tradition I was studying ( I mean technically the art of ninjutsu is noble yeah ?) - Got out of most physical activity in PE because I had a severe asthma attack once in front of the coach and she thought I was gonna die right then, so from then on I got babied - Had to put up with a super bitchy teacher in Home Ec who WOULD NOT LET ME WEAR MY GLASSES, she claimed I was being a lazy attention seeker I proceeded to become EXACTLY that just to spite her , and despite my reporting her rude treatment of me ( including constantly making me redo my assignments , making comments on my health , weight, and appearance, and criticizing my voice ???) the school board did nothing. So I became Mrs. Smith's worst nightmare ( because of this bitch my vision got like ten percent worse over two years when before it's only been like half a percent worse ) I would pass in tests with snarky answers , blatantly call her out on her shit ( I was the only kid in class with glasses so she was clearly ostracizing me ) and made a huge nuisance of myself. For 4 years I was a waking nightmare to her , and she had no choice but to pass me or risk another year of my pettiness I stole about 97 pens from her desk over the years and i still have all of them. The worst thing this bitch did was pay a guy to take me to prom my junior year because she thought I was too ugly to get a date Thanks for ruining my prom you bitch 8th Grade - Smuggled food into science class constantly, ran a successful food trade for months with no consequences - Bought cookies from a school club , then resold them for cheap and made bank before I got caught - Ran a thrift store out of my locker , I'd have new stuff to sell each week and I made a decent amount and never got caught -Helped a friend smuggle her dog out of school ( her Pomeranian had hidden in her backpack ) 9th Grade- - Convinced a sub I was the sole heir to the Lithuanian Amber industry and was thus foreign high society, resulting the sub being afraid to upset me or deny my demands " Can we have a pizza party?" " I don't know .. " " That's too bad , my father's company pays well , and I'd gave given you a priceless antique. What is Budh Mantra?
Budh Mantra is a powerful mantra associated with Budha Graha, the planet Mercury. It is one the most influential means to receive the bountiful blessings of Budha Graha.
Our Hindu astrology consists of nine planets which are collectively known as Navgraha. Out of the nine planets, Budh is one of them and represents the planet Mercury. The term synonymously identifies itself with names like Budh, Budha, and Budh Beej Mantra.
The planet Mercury represents various modes of our human faculties like intelligence, speech (including communication skills), logical aptitude, empathy, humor, and senses. Planet Mercury also represents various streams of knowledge, trade, and skills like science, analysis, commerce, research, education, writing, mathematics, cinema, sports, and other arts.
All the above faculties and the streams of knowledge, trade, and skills interplays with one another depending on the position of the planet Mercury in the Horoscope. Mercury also possesses the zodiac signs of Virgo and Gemini.
The zodiac sign Virgo is symbolic of the exaltation of planet Mercury, and the zodiac sign Pisces represents the weakness of planet Mercury.
Therefore, we believe that the proper and improper alignment of Mercury affects our wealth, health, peace of mind, and fortunes in our lives.
So, if the alignment of Mercury is bad, it can give rise to health problems like memory loss, gastritis, skin problems, insomnia, mental problems, speech impediment, nervous breakdown, asthma, deafness, and other issues.
For this purpose, we do the puja to cast away all sorts of evil from our lives and to endow us with good health, prosperity, and happiness.
Besides, the movement of Budha not only affects human beings but also the conditions of the weather and the prevailing circumstances in the nations, which we believe falls under the scope and ambit of the spiritual science which we refer to as Vedic Astrology.
Thus, to eliminate any adverse outcome of irregular alignment of the planets in our horoscope, we recite this mantra.
We can also use it for the following purposes:
To achieve success, fame, and renewal of vigor in commercial pursuits.
For intensive meditation.
To gain more energy and focus to concentrate better.
To remove obstacles and hurdles in our lives.
To help in connecting with our divine source of power.
Who exactly is Lord Budha?
In Indian Puranic mythology of the Hindus, Lord Budha is a deity. In Vedic astrology, he is Mercury who is benign as well as malefic depending on whom it associates with.
Budh is the most intelligent God. He belongs to the Vaishya caste. Wednesday belongs to him, and the gemstone of Budh is Emerald.
Importance of Lord Budha for Hinduism The importance lies in the astronomical benefits that he endows us with. Wealth, wisdom, and abstinence from evil thoughts flow from him on us, his devotees.
His appearance The appearance of Budha as having the form of a celestial body finds mention in the text of the Vedas known as Pancavimsa Brahmana.
You can buy this rare book here.
Besides, we can also find the planetary description of him in astronomical texts like Lalla’s Sisyadhivrddida, Brahmagupta’s Khandakhadyaka, Varahamihira’s Panca Siddhantika, Latadeva’s Romaka, and Aryabhatta’s Aryabhatiya.
The other appearance of him is the depiction of a deity in various forms. He appears riding a lion with four arms in some illustrations. He also appears riding a lion with wings holding a shield, club, and a curved sword.
He also appears as a deity wearing yellow clothes riding a chariot of fire and air. Wind horses numbering eight pulls the chariot.
His story In the mythological stories of the Vedas, the Moon gave birth to Budha or Mercury. The myth narrates how the Moon, filled with lusts, proceeds to abduct Tara, who was the wife of Jupiter or Brihaspati.
The abduction of Tara led to conceiving Mercury or Budha thus giving birth to Budha, the intellect.
Other names There are other known names like Tunga, Rauhineya, and Saumya.
Symbolism Above everything else, he is a symbol of intelligence. From intelligence flows the other qualities many of which are an outcome of the application of mind involving logic and mental ability.
How to chant Budh Mantra?
We should chant the Budh Mantra “Om Bram brim Broom Sah Budhaey namah” in the early morning hours for 108, 216, 324 or 1008 times for 45 days with Goddess Durga’s idol/image.
The simple meaning of “Om Bram brim Broom Sah Budhaey namah” is “Om, I bow down before Mercury.” However, the real meaning behind worshipping Mercury lies in the following translation:
“Whose body is so revered that it is like darkness, whose image takes the embodiment of intelligence, whose nature and character is magnificent, to Mercury, the hallmark of intelligence, we bow down before you in deep devotion. Om, we bow down before Mercury, the emblem of intellect.”
In order that the puja achieves its desired results, we must follow some fundamental rules and etiquettes
Before we begin to chant, it is important for us to wash our feet and hands or take a bath to purify ourselves physically.
Since our position is important while chanting, we should make sure we sit in the direction facing the East. Our backs should be straight, and the pronunciation of the mantra should be accurate.
We should also be serious about how devoted we are while chanting. If our heart and mind are not in the right place, the blessings will not reach us.
Therefore, we should entirely devote ourselves to Lord Budha, free from all distractions and impure thoughts, to feel the positive energy and the protection of the Universe.
Along with steadfast devotion, we should recite it for at least forty-five days if we want to receive his blessings.
Wearing white garments with a few pieces of the yellow and greenish color will show our absolute devotion.
Though we can do the puja during noon as well as sunset, the best time to chant the Mantra is in the morning.
Even though we should chant it daily, if we fail to chant the mantra every day, we can chant it every Wednesday as that day belongs to him.
It’s important that we chant this mantra on the beads of a rosary daily for 108, 216, 324 or 1008 times.
There are also different types of Budh Mantras which we should chant. They are –
Budh Gayatri Mantra
“Om Gajadhwajaaya Vidmahae Sukha Hastaaya Dheemahi Tanno Budha Prachodayaat.”
Gayatri Mantra comprises of three parts. The first mantra is the chanting of the Mercury, the second part is the proper mantra, and the third part is like a summary of the energy that comes with the mantra.
We can chant the Gayatri mantra when the sun rises, during the noontime, and after the sun sets.
Budh Gayatri Mantra translation in English: “Om I meditate on the one with the elephant on the flag, Oh the one who has authority to grant happiness, give me intelligence, and allow Budha Dev to enlighten the mind.”
Budh Navgrah Mantra
“Priyam gukalikaashyaamam Rupenaam prathimam Budham Saumyam Saumya gunorpetham tham Budham pranamaamyaham.”
Budh Navgrah Mantra translation in English: “I bow down in obeisance before Budha whose darkness and blackness resemble a blackened tulip, you are incomparable in your appearance with extraordinary intellect and wisdom, the son of Soma who has pleasant and propitious qualities.”
We believe that if we pray Navgrah Budh Gayatri for eleven times on every morning and sunset of a Wednesday, we will please Budh Graha.
Therefore, doing the Navgrah Budh Gayatri puja will allow us to get blessings such as reduction of health problems especially the ones related to sugar and blood pressure, improvement in communication skills, fewer skin diseases, and sharper intelligence.
Although we should devote ourselves to chanting it every day, if we cannot do that and we still seek the benevolence of him, we can practice other modes of rituals as well like –
We can do fasting on Wednesdays. We believe that fasting on Wednesdays can bring prosperity and peace to our lives and lead to a reduction of all negativity arising from improper alignment of the planets.
We can also do charities on Wednesdays. Charities can take the form of donating green vegetables, gold, and green color bangles all of which pleases him.
Even wearing clothes with the green color can please Mercury as the color is auspicious before Budha.
Our daily interactions and dealings with females should be respectful.
We can also give presents and other gifts for our siblings to please him.
9 Fantastic Budh Mantra Benefits
Since Budh is the epitome of intelligence and represents various fields like commerce, law, banking, accounts, and trade, chanting Budh Mantra will ensure beneficial gains in these fields.
Unceasingly devoting ourselves to Budha will grant the following Budh Mantra benefits:
Intellect: Proper alignment of the planet Mercury in the cosmic system will give intelligence on us, the chanter.
Our minds will be sharper, and our memory will also improve which allows us to become more creative.
Communication skills: Lord Budha controls communication and language and is an expert in interrogation and storytelling. So, chanting it gives us the power of oratory skills which we can use in our line of works to gain success.
Healthy relationships: By chanting it, our relationships with our family members and friends will also strengthen as Lord Budha’s positive energy will fill us and allow us to be more patient and understanding.
Good health: This is one of the immense benefits that Lod Budh grants us for our devotion and worship. All of us are prone to sickness as we are all human beings. What makes this worse is the wrong alignment of planet Mercury.
As we already know now, the wrong alignment can bring, amongst others, many health-related problems which none of us wants to face. Thankfully, by chanting it with utmost devotion, we can get rid of any ill health effects.
One important thing to note will be that if we are suffering from weak health, then that may be a sign that our Mercury is fragile and we need to be more devout towards Mercury.
Spiritual growth: Chanting it also allows us to grow spiritually as a person and individual. This spiritual growth motivates us to become a better person and be an influence to anyone around us.
All sorts of negativity surround our lives. But the spirituality of Budh Mantra enables us to overcome them, and we are compassionate towards others, even to person we do not know.
Presence of mind and wit: Besides intelligence, it benefit also includes wittiness and significant presence of mind to deal with any situation and circumstances positively and optimistically.
Learning ability: This benefit bears a close association with intelligence. With higher intellect, we are also able to learn and understand things quickly. So whatever field we may be in, learning new things will not be a problem with Budh’s blessings.
Success: Once we are receiving the blessings of hi, everything will translate to success. Be it a job or career or academic pursuits we will face success in all field of science, education, law, commerce, trade, writing, show business, and many others.
Wealth: One of the most important benefits is the wealth that comes with ardent devotion to him.
As many of our hurdles and obstacles get out of our way, success in terms of wealth will start to pour into our lives.
Final Thoughts
Of all the Gods, Budh is the most intelligent. By chanting Budh Mantra regularly with dedication and commitment, we invoke the blessing of intelligence and good health that emanates into our lives and onto others. But, chanting it with a corrupt mind and heart will work against us. Therefore, a pure mind and heart, free from evil inhibitions, will take us closer to the majesty of Lord Budha.

Currently my Favorite Online Meditation Course
If you haven't seen it by now, my buddy Giovanni, developed a fantastic step-by-step 5-week meditation course, that I've taken myself as well and found valuable.
This course has 35 daily video lessons, organized by week – each with its own unique themes, goals, and insights. These videos cover everything, from showing you how to make meditation a daily habit, to teaching you all the different meditation techniques (Mantra meditation is included as well).
I wholeheartedly suggest this program because it teaches you to practice meditation from the “inside out” - independently.
P.S. You can get this course for only $97 which means that you'll pay $2.7 for each lesson. That's crazy cheap.

Hey! I am somewhat new to 2ct and am in the midst of an obsession with Ciel - surprise, surprise - and was wondering if you could fill me in on a few things? Obviously if you can't then don't worry! 1. Is there any hints to what the earls real name is? 2. Which twin did madam red prefer? 3. Did the earl get on with Ciel? 4. What was the earl's relationship with his mother like (what he called her, their dynamic, how much time was spent together, etc.), and did Vincent actively ignore the earl?
Well, I can give you the canon facts (as best I can recall) and then give you my interpretation of it all.
1. If we assume Ciel is the name of the older twin (not the younger), and most versions of 2ct now do this (I think), then the earl must have a different given name, right? There really isn’t any specific canon evidence suggesting any one name over another. However, there are some forerunners that look promising. I’ll list my **faves** here:
I. Elic. It’s a rare name and a perfect anagram of Ciel. I’ve found two meanings for it: 1) variation on Alec/Alex, meaning “protection, defense/defender” and 2) “from the elder tree”. I like this name for a few reasons. My pet theory is how Mother3 (a game) is the basic framework of the manga series. The twins in that game are Claus and Lucas; these are anagrams, and even their parents discuss how they named the older twin first and made an anagram to name the younger. Mother3 has a character named Alec (their maternal grandfather), and Black Butler has Alexis (an uncle) – their personalities and plot roles are very similar.
II. Luce. (Sounds like loose.) It’s a *near* anagram; just replace the “i” with a “u”, and it means “light, star”. In Mother3 you have Claus (“people’s victory”) and Lucas (also “light, star”), so if Yana-san doesn’t use a perfect anagram, she could have a four-letter “C” name (Ciel) and a four-letter “L” name, like Luce. Luka would be nice, but that’s already the name of the younger brother to Alois/Jim in season two of the anime. Since the non-canon materials (anime, etc.) are like AU spoilers, a name similar to Luka is entirely possible, like Luce or Luke. There is also more reason to use names that are similar to Mother3 characters; I mean… Mother3 does have Claus, and the Black Butler character who hands the earl the game “Mouse3” is named Chlaus (Klaus in some translations).
III. Eric. Again a near-anagram; it just replaces the “L” with an “R”, and the Japanese often change “L” into “R” for pronunciation. Means “to rule forever”. Sounds good for someone who wears a ring with a motto roughly meaning “the power to rule”, doesn’t it? Problem is, this name has already been used in Kuromyu2. Eric and Alan were essentially accepted into canon in a single panel of the manga. However, the manga never mentions their names. Could get a variation, like Erik. Same meaning.
IV. Lune. Meaning “moon”, I’ve recently added this to my list. Only a half-anagram, but the earl has been referred to as the moon by Sebastian and Baron Kelvin. Soma is the name of the Hindu moon god. London means “fortress of the moon”…. I felt that I had to add it to my list for these reasons.
Those are my personal top four name ideas. Other popular names floating around are longer versions of Luce, like Lucien… or other names for “star, light”, like Aster. Still others have considered names for “sun”, “earth”, or “moon”.
2. I don’t know that Madam Red had a favorite, but she probably spent more time with the earl, since he was often ill, and she would treat his asthma attacks.
3. I can’t say they always agreed with each other, but they clung to each other in that cage, and real Ciel wanted to protect his younger twin. It’s also hinted at that they spent a lot of time playing games of chess against each other, since the earl was often kept inside (due to his health).
4. Since Rachel and the earl shared the same health issues (and because he’s the younger of the twins), the earl probably gravitated towards his mother… and vice versa. I don’t know about any nicknames between the two, but they probably spent a lot of time together and might have created some for each other. In Mother3, Hinawa also seems to favor her younger son, Lucas. In the biblical story of Esau and Jacob, their mother prefers Jacob, the younger twin; she even helps him trick his father.
5. Similarly, there is only circumstantial evidence to suggest that Vincent favors Ciel, like calling and referring to him by name but only calling the earl "this one" or "my son". In Mother3, Flint obviously favors the older twin, Claus. In that story of Esau and Jacob, the father clearly wants his older twin son to inherit and rule. Esau gives up/sells his birthright to Jacob but later tries to reclaim it. However, Jacob proves to be the better leader.
Thanks for the ask!
