I like forests, the light filtering through the trees is beautiful and I love to just listen to its sounds when walking on its paths.

however I'm not a passionate trekker or something, mostly because there aren't many big forest in easy reach (well, they aren't unreachable, but not in walking distance. and most of the family trips are for visiting museums or to grandma's seaside house. nature centered trips are a rare treat that I greatly enjoy and cherish!)

now that we have talked about mental diets, we are going to talk about its correlated game. the "mental diet game" is the same as the diet disguised as a game. while it’s still mainly about conscious and controlled thinking, there are yet certain rules to obey.

modern rpgs ‘let the playable character actually be their own character who is equally as grounded in the world as the other characters’ challenge honestly like. it seems like there’s this assumption that adding too much background to a pc limits ‘player agency’ but that’s not what i personally want player agency to mean? if i wanted to create my own oc whole-cloth i would do that. i want to be told a story about someone who feels like a real person who i then have the chance to make my own through playing. i know some people really enjoy having things be totally open-ended but i am simply NOT that creative okay i need to be thrown a bone here 😭

Fun little silly thought I had about the Lair Games and specifically Leo deliberately losing is all the reasons he could have for doing so.

My favorite headcanon for his main motivation is that Splinter wasn’t proud of him anymore.

I imagine that, in the beginning, winning the Lair Games was Leo’s opportunity to shine. He wasn’t artistic or the baby of the family like Mikey, wasn’t a tech genius who created amazing inventions like Donnie, wasn’t the eldest who was insanely strong and dependable like Raph. So he had to shine somewhere else- anywhere else- and what better way to get attention than to be a winner? A champion?

And then he won too much. And it wasn’t special anymore. He got too big headed, too cocky, he knew this was his element and he ran with it.

Splinter’s words of congratulations slowly petered out. Suddenly, there was no real reason to win.

Winning feels empty when the only one cheering you on is yourself.

So- Leo schemed. And he’s a great schemer, fooling his whole family (and Donnie did deserve a win- people were way happier when he won.)

He even gave up his prized possession! His room!

Though he knows his brothers probably think it’s a bad prize. A terrible one, even.

Leo doesn’t sleep much as is, though. So Dad’s snores were more comforting than anything. It was reassuring to hear him so clearly alive and close by.

Even if the distance between them was larger than Leo’d like.

He’d just have to find something else, something more to show his dad that Leo was someone to trust, to be proud of, to love.

He gets his chance soon after, when he needs to pull off a plan against Big Mama at his dad’s side. Leo can only hope this victory is one that has a lasting effect when his father looks at him with pride once more.

Victory, for Leo, is a pretty loaded term.

I think the most interesting thing about the press release for the new Hunger Games prequel is that it never actually says it's going to be about Haymitch's Games. It just says it starts on the day of the Reaping for the Second Quarter Quell. It could start there but then skip to something completely different or cover a vast period of time. It could follow characters from any District. Maybe a Gamemaker. Maybe a Career. Maybe a Victor. Maybe someone completely outside the structure we know about. As far as I've seen (and I recognize I could have missed things), we know nothing about this except the day the story begins, and that means possibilities are wide open.

In addition to the toast babies being a blend of Katniss and Peeta's features, they are a blend of the families they grew up in.

Katniss was one of two girls, Peeta one of three boys. And they had a girl and a boy. Not only that, but Katniss was the oldest (like their daughter) and Peeta was the youngest (like their son). Yet the toast babies won't have the same concerns brought about by the birth order of their parent. The dancing girl won't have to provide food or clothing like Katniss; the boy with blonde curls won't be dismissed or overlooked like Peeta.
