Think I’ll be trying this, a great concept!<3
✨With most schools, colleges and unis closed around the globe and most studyblr students now having school at home I thought I would create a challenge to help everyone stay focused and productive and also to connect with people so even though most people are self-isolating, we don’t feel lonely✨
✨Info✨
Because no one really knows when we’re going to be able to go back to schools and I know it will depend very much on where you live, I’m going to do a month of daily ‘challenges’ starting on Monday 23rd March 2020 but if the quarantine keeps going I’ll try to add as the weeks/months go on
I want to see what y’all are posting so please use the tag #2020 quarantine challenge and I’ll track this tag and reboot as much as possible!
On this note, I will reblog basically everything even if you don’t think it is ‘aesthetic’ cause I love seeing how everyone does their notes and stuff so please get involved 💕
✨Week 1 - Questions✨
Mon - Have you made a study schedule to help you study at home?
Tue - How are you being taught your lessons? (google classroom, teams etc.)
Wed - What’s your favourite study snack?
Thu - How are you keeping active?
Fri - What is your favourite subject/topic to study at the moment?
Sat - Where in your house is your favourite place to study?
Sun - What are you doing to relax?
✨Week 2 - Pictures✨
Mon - Take a picture of your desk/study space
Tue - Take a picture of the book you are currently reading
Wed - Take a picture of your most colourful notes
Thu - Take a picture of the pens/highlighters that you could not live without
Fri - Take a picture of the view outside your window
Sat - Take a picture of a meal you’ve cooked or something you’ve baked
Sun - Take a picture of some of your art or doodles
✨Week 3 - Questions✨
Mon - What is your favourite food to cook or prepare?
Tue - If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would you go?
Wed - What is your biggest goal for this year? Have you done anything so far to achieve this?
Thu - What is the song that makes you happy no matter what?
Fri - What is your favourite TV programme at the moment (on Netflix etc)?
Sat - Where is your favourite place in the world (eg a city you’ve been to, a restaurant, or a particular hiking spot)?
Sun - What is your favourite joke?
✨Week 4 - Tips advice ✨
Mon - What is your biggest tip for staying focused?
Tue - What is your biggest tip for not getting cabin fever?
Wed - What would be your advice to you from five years ago?
Thu - What is the best advice you’ve ever been given (e.g. from a teacher of friend)?
Fri - What is your biggest tip for organising your study space/study materials?
Sat - What is your best tip on how to relax?
Sun - What is you biggest tip to someone starting to learn your major/favourite subject/degree?
✨This is the first month but I might add to this later as the quarantine continues. Let’s all support each other through this difficult time✨

My thoughts on the current situation...
As I’m writing this it is currently March 22nd and it has been a few days since the announcement of school closures in the U.K, along with the bittersweet cancellation of exams. For days this possibility was flung around my a-level classes as we debated what would happen to our qualifications, however cancellation always seemed like an extremely unlikely outcome- I mean it took the UK long enough to close schools why would they cancel exams? But they did, and now thousands of yr13′s are probably facing their own fears and problems as a result.
Personally, I honestly don’t know how I feel, despite taking a few days to think about this before writing this post. On one hand I’m relieved, heck- I probably dodged the most stressful, gut-wrenching weeks of my life, many students in other years would kill to not have to do exams. Truthfully, I would’ve probably been in the category if I wasn’t a yr13. But I am, which means the downside is also very prominent. Much information hasn’t been given about how grades are going to be established but from what we know so far it is going to be in the form of a predicted/calculated grade consisting of an assessment of previous attainment, mock results and teacher opinion. Whilst this doesn’t sound too bad to me as I hope I have demonstrated a similar level of merit to the grades I would want, there are still many possibilities where this system could ultimately fail- but I guess that is for exam boards to figure out.
To me the emptiness I feel has been much stronger than my fear for grades, surprisingly, as I want to apply to one of the most competitive courses in academia (we love the stress of med school applications) Instead it is very much the fact that it feels as if something personal has been ripped away from me. I’m disappointed that I will not be able to have the satisfaction of working hard in the last few months to the lead up to exam season, I will not be able to enjoy the last few days of college in the summer with all my friends, I won’t be able to walk out of my last exam with a true sense of accomplishment. I also won’t be able to experience prom (to be fair this isn’t yet confirmed to not be taking place, but my suspicions are that this won’t go ahead) something I have looked forward to for ages. Exams were always such a definite thing, a beacon of security one might say. Whatever happened, no matter how many mental breakdowns, career changes or parties happened during the year, you knew that May was exam season and there was not much you could do about it (except get hit by a bus- a possibility I have heard many of my peers jokingly debate (: ) Yet in a single day, this security was crushed and what has been left is an empty void of 16 weeks- which would’ve been incredible if it wasn’t for self-isolation: think of all the times you could hangout with friends. But we are all responsible and self-isolating- even though it is the most boring time of my life and I’m on day 2.
This whole feeling is probably magnified thanks to my personal need to be constantly working towards something, a project, an A-level, a piece of Art. So now I find myself just *existing*, jumping from reading to YouTube to Netflix to Instagram. Thanks Tiktok for ruining my attention span- I’ve recently realised watching a full movie is an extraordinarily long process which explain why I don’t watch films unless it is at the cinema- but that’s a whole other problem.
I guess the purpose of this post is not to sound arrogant and obnoxious- the world is currently battling issues of such magnitude that I can’t even comprehend right now- but I guess my point is to validate the feelings that other students may be feeling, attempting to shed light on the glimmer of somewhat poetic solidarity we share with each other. We are very much all in the same boat, and at this stage we have no control over our qualifications- but the least we can do is to try to be positive and not worry too much (easier said than done :) ). My biology teacher shared some great advice on our last day, take the time to learn something new, something skill-based. Whether that is trying to learn a new language, learning how to draw or perhaps learning how to meditate or exercise try to come out of this a better person. If you want, you can comment what you plan on doing over this loooong summer- I’m interested to find out

Best advice for creating a good workspace!!!
tips for creating an efficient workspace
1. don’t overwhelm your desk by putting a bunch of decorations on it. try to minimize surface area used as much as possible so you can maximize the space you have to study. try to find cute jars for your pens or other items that you actually need on your desk that keep your aesthetic alive.
2. efficiency should be your priority. if you focus too much on making your desk super cute, you’ll potentially compromise efficiency. sure, make your desk cute! but don’t prioritize cuteness over efficiency.
3. have everything you need while studying in easy reach. on your desk (or within easy reach of your desk) should be your study session essentials - textbooks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, black pens, flash cards - everything you know YOU will need. it is a waste of time to constantly get up and walk over to your bookshelf to get a textbook or to dig through your drawers every time you need a piece of paper. the goal is NOT to get up 30 times when you are studying - you shouldn’t have to get up at all!
4. focus on maximizing surface area. there WILL be times you are going to be using a notebook, a textbook, and your laptop all at once - if you don’t have the space to that, your workspace loses its point! put everything that you don’t need on top of your desk (like every single highlighter you own) in drawers rather than on top of your desk.
5. invest in a small storage space to put next to your desk. this could be a small set of drawers, a filing cabinet, or whatever suits you (i personally have a utility cart) to put all your extra supplies in that you won’t need on a daily basis - extra xerox paper for your printer, jars with pens you don’t always use, extra notebooks, etc. this helps clear up your desk drawers for things you WILL need on a daily basis!

Let’s try this then...
After months of low motivation and an Instagram lacking in fresh content, I have decided to revive my tumblr page after I created it about a year ago and never used it... oops. My goal on here is to be able to write a lot more in terms of advice and my own study techniques without feeling distant- like with my formal wix blog (bye bye Inspostudy101 blog R.I.P). I have thought about also perhaps creating a weekly (if I have time ofc) “diary of an a-level student”, I haven’t seen anything like this (although I’m certain something like this exists- shout out to those who have done this) and I think it would be a nice way to post content without putting pressure on myself. If any of you have any questions about revision or life in general you can ask me here and it’ll allow me to share more of my advice with you guys since tumblr is quite known for the whole Q&A thing. This is a beta though so please be aware that this tumblr is bound to experience a plethora of growing pains whilst I learn how to navigate the site properly and create engaging posts- since my expertise is mainly Instagram- if any of you don’t follow me on there, it would be great to see you; @inspostudy101 on Instagram. If any of you have come from my Instagram, HI!
Anyways, if I carry this on it’ll be a miracle, one of my favourite hobbies is not finishing things that I have started :)

In general, I like to listen to all types of music- I found that only a select few songs actually bother me whilst attempting to revise (mostly those that I find myself wanting to dance to :) ). Nevertheless, here are my top 5 picks for revision, or to bop to during your break ;).
{1} Haunt You - Social House
{2} Bones- JC Stewart
{3} Lights Up - Harry Styles
{4} Yellow Hearts - Ant Saunders
{5} Fire on Fire - Sam Smith
{and just to bop} Don’t Start Now - Dua Lipa

writing an essay in college is very different from writing an essay in high school. personally, i write more research/history papers than literary essays (the liberal arts life and curse), so this is going to be a post on how a general research-y essay that has a thesis and arguments.
intro
don’t open with a quote and don’t be overly broad.
avoid generalizations
your intro should address the topic of your essay (ex. the significance of gardens in renaissance society), and then narrow down to what you want to talk about in regards to your topic (ex. the political influence of the Medici gardens during the renaissance)
thesis! it should include the argument you want to make about the narrowed down topic, and three (or however many your class requires) reasons to support it. I like to think of it as W = X + Y + Z.
your thesis explains who, what and why in a concise manner.
body
topic sentences should not be a word for word copy of your thesis.
the order of arguments in your thesis is the order of your paragraphs
depending on the length of your essay, there should be at least two justifications to your argument.
so, just as the intro has a formula, X = A + B, and so forth.
A and B should be backed up with some sources/quotes. don’t forget that if you are quoting from class notes to put either the prof’s last name, or (class notes)
be sure to have clear and concise arguments, don’t be flowery
USE WORDS THAT ARE ACCURATE. thesaurus is great but if you use a word that sounds cool but doesn’t capture the meaning you want to convey then don’t use it, because it may just change the meaning of your argument
quote whatever isn’t yours. it is completely fine if 90% of your sentences are quotes. its weird to get used to, but don’t worry about it.
conclusion
the worst part in my opinion.
synthesize don’t summarize. show how your arguments relate back to the thesis.
try not to copy paste your thesis into the conclusion, word it so that the readers understands that through XYZ, you were able to conclude and support argument W (referring back to the thesis formula)
do not add any new information, do not add quotes.
your final sentence should tie up the essay in a pretty bow, but try to avoid clichés
protips
when writing the body paragraphs, your ‘weakest’ paragraph should be in the middle, strongest as your last, and the second best as your first.
if you’re stumped on the intro, skip it. write out the body first, then the intro and you’ll be able to concisely word your thesis
think of your essay as an infomercial. your intro is the loud and clear HERES MY PRODUCT, the body is blasting information on why the product is so cool, and the conclusion is the final push for the viewer to buy that product. make your teacher want to agree with your thesis!
use a mix of paraphrase and quotes!
don’t forget your works cited lmao (the MLA Handbook is a gr8 tool, also OWL Purdue)
prime time for essay writing is in the morning or at night, but make sure you edit it meticulously
EDIT ON PAPER NOT ON YOUR SCREEN
stay humble, study hard
