Random Greek Deity Facts
- Artemis has been associated with horses in the past.
- Ares has associations with owls.
- There are ancient gravestones with reliefs on them that historians still cannot tell if the art is of Dionysus or Jesus.
- It is common for historians to struggle identifying if a statue is of Artemis or Apollo because they often look so much alike.
- Hephaestus is a god of fire.
- Maia, the Mother of Hermes, was thought to assist in raising both Dionysus and Hephaestus.
- Hypnos is said to live in a massive cave, sleeping with thousands of his sons.
- Rather than blood, Greek gods are said to have something called Ichor running through their veins; no one is quite sure what "Ichor" actually is.
- Both Apollo and Artemis are deities of light; it is not just Apollo. Along with this, it is believed Leto may also be a goddess of light.
- It is commonly believed that the hyacinth flower is not actually the flower Hyacinthus was infamously transformed into; most sources seem to agree that it was likely either an iris or a larkspur.
- At one point in the Dionysiaca, Dionysus wages a war against India. The goddess Rhea is said to have gathered troops for him, and Zeus was said to have been the one to task Dionysus with going to war in order to allow him to join the gods on Mount Olympus.
- Demeter's chariot is pulled by two giant winged serpents; she has literal dragons pulling her around, and no one is talking about it.
- The Python was a child of Gaia, and before Apollo took up the Oracle in Delphi, there was actually an Oracle with Gaia in that location.
- The twins Castor and Pollux, who made up the Gemini constellation, were commonly worshipped throughout ancient Greece under the title of the "Dioscuri" or "Dioskouroi".
- Also regarding the Dioskouroi, the name "Castor" ("Kastor") may translate to "Beaver".
- The famous epithet "Paean" of Apollo was also listed on an ancient Mycenaean tablet that listed the names of separate deities. It is, therefore, possible that Paean was once a separate god who later became associated/merged with both Apollo and his son Ascelpius.
- Besides being an epithet, a Paean was also a type of devotional chant/song that was sung in honor of Apollo. Some ancient sources claim that the event of singing a Paean could actually be quite loud, involving clouds of stomping/banging and movement.
- The masculine version of Hekate's name, "Hekatos", was an epithet for the god Apollo; both names can be translated to "worker from afar".
- The first record of the more "traditional" view of a werewolf comes from the Greek myth about King Lycaon, when Zeus transformed into a wolf for ten years as punishment for tricking the gods into consuming human flesh (yes, you read that right).
- In the myths, Zeus and Hermes have a lovely Father-Son bonding trip of destroying an entire village (except for one home) for not showing either of the disguised gods hospitality as poor travellers.
- Both Apollo and Zeus were seen as gods who purified "blood-guilt" - a condition which was caused by the killing of another person and required immense purification.
- Cerberus is described as a fully sentient being who can communicate as other immensely powerful children of Gaia could, meaning he is akin to the gods in terms of intelligence rather than being like an overgrown dog.
- Hermes is said to be the inventor of offerings, specifically animal sacrifices.
- One origin of the Pegasus was Poseidon and Medusa doing the devil's tango.
- There is a tale that claims Hermes to be the one who granted Aesop his knowledge of fables.
- According to some ancient sources, Cerberus has as many as fifty heads, a mane of snakes, the claws of a lion, and a snake tail.
- Iris was not only the goddess of rainbows but was also the personal messenger of Hera and was prominently featured in The Iliad delivering many messages on behalf of the Olympian gods.
- Eros has been depicted as the child of Aphrodite and Ares, the child of Ouranos and Aphrodite, the child of solely Aphrodite, the child of Poros and Penia, the child of Ouranos and Gaia, the child of Zephyrus and Iris, and a primordial being who simply came into being. So, where did Eros actually come from? Your guess is as good as any.

That's all for now! Let me know if y'all enjoyed these and would like more. 🧡

Interview with Twst Music Composer Ozawa Takumi from the Soundtrack:
Q: Could you tell us about the themes for the dorms, and stories from production?
Ozawa: "The first dorm theme I composed was 'Heartslabyul Dorm' (Disc 2-06). Rather than being an exciting piece, it portrays the strict discipline and sternness of the Queen of Hearts, as well as a sense of having entered a mysterious world. Although the dorm becomes quite lively as the story progresses this theme's key point is that it begins and ends quietly.
youtube
The theme 'Savanaclaw Dorm' (Disc 2-11), was the one I struggled with the least. I wanted to express the dry atmosphere of the savanna and the feeling of distant horizons shimmering with heat, so I sampled a variety of chant-like voices.
youtube
On the other hand, 'Octavinelle Dorm' (Disc 2-18) was the most challenging theme.
While it has a jazz-like feel, I incorporated an unusual chord progression that is not typical of traditional jazz.
I wanted to create the sensation of floating underwater, so I included noise meant to represent bubbles. I like to think that the use of steel drums helped with capturing the atmosphere of the deep sea.
youtube
The theme 'Scarabia Dorm' (Disc 2-22) goes full throttle on producing the types of sounds heard in the Oriental Scale*, and incorporates instruments such as the sitar, a string instrument from India.
I love this kind of music, personally, so I had a lot of fun composing it.
*Translation note: The "Oriental Scale" is an octatonic (eight note) music scale inspired by Middle Eastern music, in which the the 2nd, 5th, and 7th notes of the Major scale are lowered. The word "Oriental" was left as-is in the translation, in order to accurately represent her comment, and because there appears to be no other commonly used name for that specific scale. (Thank you so much to @irafuwas (and friends!) for the music-terminology assistance!)
youtube
The theme 'Pomefiore Dorm' (Disc 3-01) gives off a noble and elegant impression. While it features a waltz rhythm, the point is not to evoke a glamorous ballroom dance but rather to emphasize its solid rhythm and a melody that exudes a sense of gallantry.
youtube
The theme 'Ignihyde Dorm' (Disc 3-07) is the most unique, I think. It has various sequences that gradually build up to combine into one at the end. Listening to it now, I wonder, 'How is it that I layered all those sounds?' It's a complex piece, and I'm quite fond of it.
youtube
The theme 'Diasomnia Dorm' (Disc 3-13) aims to craft a cold, beautiful, and—above all—majestic atmosphere. I wanted to create a piece of music that instills a sense of nervous tension just by listening to it, as if one might incur Malleus’ wrath for the slightest misstep."

Help a college student
Hello everyone,
Reaching out today wasn't an easy decision, but it's one I must make. As a dedicated student facing urgent financial challenges, I am seeking your support.
Rather than asking for donations, I want to offer my skills as a tarot reader and writer. By purchasing a reading or utilizing my writing services, you can directly help me fund my education and living expenses. I also work part-time but I figured it wasn't enough. Your support means the world to me and I am deeply grateful for any assistance you can provide.
If you're from India you'll receive your reading within a day or two.
If a purchase isn’t possible, sharing this message would also be a tremendous help.
Thank you for your kindness and support.

India got independence from the British after almost 200 years, a year before the nakba. It's so vile that India, a colonized country that was brutalized by the British abstained. The fundamental core of our country especially in the beginning years was to help other colonized nations in their fight for freedom. Where is that now? And to abstain in the resolution asking for humanitarian assistance being sent into gaza is the governments stance? And to support israel through it all. I just cannot get over the lack of empathy all around and i am disgusted by the government. They don't care about the lives of their own people being killed nor do they care about Palestinians - as long as theyre muslims its all the same to this fucking right wing government. Absolute cowards

January 25, 2024 - Great Rosefinch (Carpodacus rubicilla) Found in parts of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia, these finches live in open habitats with sparse vegetation including boulder fields, alpine meadows, and the edges of glaciers. They eat seeds, buds, shoots, and flowers, along with some berries and small insects, foraging in pairs and flocks on the ground and in low vegetation. Females build nests from twigs, plant stalks, root fibers, grass, moss, hair, wool, and feathers in rock crevices or bushes on cliffs and incubate clutches of four or five eggs. They feed and care for the chicks with some assistance from males.

pt II priates of the caribbean but i've never watched it
honestly at this point there's no intro just have my dumbassery and blame the good omens fandom:
There are three genders, man, woman, pirate.
Jack Sparrow is not the main character, until he is.
Oleander Bloom plays Will who is an assistant blacksmith.
I misread assistant as assassin. I'm really sorry, Will. I'm sure you're a really sweet guy, Tumblr just ruined my reading comprehension.
Elizabeth likes pirates and stole gold, and is a badass who loves Will.
Jack Sparrow comes bobbing along to port and kicks his foot out.
Undead crabs sold gold coins and now are skeletons covered with fake skin but the bad Botox job falls apart in moonlight.
They want to put the gold coins back to either die or live. Which is it? I don't know.
Pirates are good, East India Company bad. Now that I can get behind for sure.
Jack Sparrow is sassy and has good eyeliner and kisses Elizabeth at one point but not like that.
Two men roll around homoerotically in sand. Or this could be from OFMD. Or Doctor Who. I've invaded too many fandoms. It's not from Good Omens, at least. I think.
The octopus is not C'thulu. He is Davy Jones's wardrobe.
I don't know what that means, either.
There are five movies but three (two?) have been politely disowned.
help.

The Harkles vs. real Philanthropy by u/wenfot
The Harkles vs. real Philanthropy As the Harkles have babbled on about their philanthropic efforts, I've been enraged by their hypocrisy.I was fortunate to have spent three years the Gates Foundation as a contract admin assistant. (This was during the time before their divorce). I worked in their Gender Equality and K-12 Eduucation departments.Say what you will about the Gateses, but I can tell you the work in these areas is real. Their program officers reviewed grant applications from certified charities that did real work: providing bank accounts for women in Africa so they could manage their own money separate from their husbands; funding scholarships and programs to help low income students in the USA fill out their college applications; helping women and girls break free from domestic abuse; providing healthcare in rural Africa and India so women didn't have to walk for days to find neonatal and post-natal care; funding schools so women and girls, no matter where they live, can get a proper education while providing for their families. That's just a small selection of what they do.The program officers travel regularly to these places to see how the funds are being spent. I arranged countless Zoom calls so they could check in regularly with people running these programs, regardless of the time difference (1:00 a.m. calls are not fun!) These grants are reviewed and if they aren't doing the work they claim to do, the funding is revoked. These grantees and the dedicated people who run them aren't in it for themselves. They are walking the walk, willing to live in poor and dangerous parts of the world. They show up every single day, not just for a glitzy, feel good photo op.The point I'm trying to make is that real philanthropy isn't a vacation. It's being invested not just with money, but with taking the time and making the effort to see what the real needs are and how to meet them. The Harkles are faux humanitarians. Archewell is a sham. They only work one hour a week. Their photo ops make my blood boil because you know damn good and well that they won't provide funds, guidance, or mentorship to these schools and charities once they leave. My hope is that eventually, Archewell will be audited and the grift exposed. These charities and the dedicated, selfless people who run then day after day deserve nothing less. post link: https://ift.tt/R6oIXMd author: wenfot submitted: August 21, 2024 at 05:30PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. LMK OC COMPETITION - ROUND 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jade Rabbit belongs to @sarahawriter
Vervet belongs to @rae-blu
Learn more about them below the cut!!
Jade Rabbit:
This in actually an OC I created for the Jade Rabbit from mythology (so obviously a rabbit immortal with a mostly human appearance) since they weren't seen in the episode Cooking with Chang'e. Since they've been portrayed as male and female in media throughout the years, I made them gender-fluid, switching between male and female. Their job is to make pills of immortality, but over the years their alchemical skills have branched out and they have made elixirs with countless different effects by this point.
They aren't a full on villain, but she did fight with Wukong during the JTTW when they tried to kidnap Tripitaka via marriage to take some of his power when she was impersonating the Princess of India (this actually happened in the book). The reason she was impersonating the princess of India was because she was an reincarnation of a celestial who'd slapped her once, and this was Jade's form of revenge. So obviously she has issues with holding grudges and getting revenge for said grudges. Chang'e reamed them out for it afterwards though, and it is something they're trying to work on. Granted, most of that reason is to avoid more lectures from Chang'e, but progress is progress.
The main reason they tried to steal Triptaka's powers was because they don't have strong magical abilities of their own. They try to make up the difference with a plethora of elixirs and pills that can boost their abilities, as well as temporarily give them new abilities, but they do want to be able to do things like that without the assistance of elixirs. Their weapon of choice is their pestle, which they can make the size of a small staff.
Jade can be socially awkward, but that's to be expected when they literally live on the Moon and only have one person to interact with. While they may hold grudges easily, they will also go all out when it comes to helping friends or working on important projects, pulling as many all-nighters as it takes to finish it (which can sometimes blow up in their face). They also are a bit of a mechanic, having made the bunny mechs that provide security for the Moon. Jade also developed a love for photography as they're basically the camera crew for Chang'e's show.
Since they live on the Moon the only canon characters they've interacted with are Chang'e, and Wukong during the journey. Although with their existence I do imagine the MoonDuo turning into a MoonGang (and Jade and Macaque could bond over having fought Wukong while Chang'e is the only one in the gang who has a positive opinion of Wukong XD).
Vervet:
Vervet is a celestial monkey vagabond with a love for traveling around the globe. He longs to experience as many different cultures from the mortal beings of the world as he can. With his pocket-dimension like magic, he has a room in which he keeps a strikingly organised collection of everything he's ever been given in his journeying.

Always Worth It | Ralph Penbury x You | Series Masterlist
Our Sweet Baby Mary Summary: First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the Penburys with a... well, you know the rest. Words: 1.1k
Tumblr media
No book, advice from survivors, or horrifying stories from witnesses can prepare you for the pain of giving birth.
But the second the nurse placed your baby in your arms, you knew she was worth it. She was the most beautiful thing you'd ever seen. An absolute miracle. You could see all the best parts of yourself and Ralph combined on her tiny little face already. You always thought people were full of it when they claimed a baby looked like its parents immediately. But now? You completely understand.
Ralph had fallen for her quicker than he'd fallen for you. He melted the second he laid eyes on her, and had barely let her out of his sight since he'd been allowed back into the room.
You and Ralph had named her Mary. Not just because the ruse would be a fun story to tell her some day, but because you genuinely loved the character and the book she came from. You hoped your own Mary would grow up to be as caring and adventurous and as in love with nature as the one in The Secret Garden.
You'd had three wonderful days to yourselves to recuperate, but due to popular demand, you'd decided to allow visitors today.
Victoria and her mother hadn't stayed long. Victoria seemed entirely uninterested in your little bundle of joy, and Ralph's mother was still bitter that you'd turned down her offer to invite her spiritual advisor to oversee the birth. They'd each held her briefly, out of obligation more than genuine desire to, and taken off to go shopping. Mary seemed unbothered at being passed back and forth, which is more than you could say for yourself. Seeing her in hands other than yours or Ralph's put you on edge. You wondered if that would ever pass.
The introduction of your parents to Baby Mary was a different story. Mary had taken to your father instantly. Isn't it strange how children are such great judges of character? She cooed as he held her, both completely content to just stare at each other. Until your mother cleared her throat and gestured for him to hand her over.
"Did you ever hear from Mary again? The girl from India?" your mother asks, smoothing a ripple out of the blanket wrapped tightly around the baby in her arms.
You, Ralph, and your father each look in a different direction. You know that if any of you makes eye contact right now, you'll lose it.
As if on cue, little Mary begins to fuss, and your mother purses her lips as if she disapproves of this baby-like behavior. You can feel yourself bristle, and it seems like Ralph does too.
"I'll take her," he says, jumping up from his seat on the bed beside you to rescue her from your mother's clutches. Once Mary is back in her daddy's arms, she quiets, and the smile on Ralph's face makes you forget why you were angry a second ago. He rocks her gently by the window, where the sunlight gives them both an angelic glow.
"Have you hired a nanny yet? I don't know how anyone lives without one," your mother sniffs, nose high as she scans your bedroom for imperfections to store in her vault of superiority.
Ralph shoots you a look. You'd agreed that, unlike your parents, you were going to raise your own children. In fact, you were looking forward to it. You'd hired a kind older woman who'd raised six of her own to provide advice and occasional assistance, but you were both determined to do the bulk of the work yourselves. This was your child, and you intended to raise her. Your own mothers had both relied so heavily on the hired help, you barely knew the women who brought you into this world. That was not going to be the case with Mary Penbury, or any of the little Penburys that came later.
"We hired someone to help out occasionally."
Ralph returns to the bed and carefully places Mary back into your arms. He settles in beside you, wrapping a supportive arm around your back and using his free hand to help hold the baby.
"Occasionally? Not full-time? I daresay you'll change your tune on that rather quickly. Children are quite a burden."
How would she know?
"You know, mother, I'm glad you reminded me of my dear friend Mary from India," you say before you even realize you've opened your mouth. Ralph holds his breath beside you. This seems like the perfect time to break the news. "Because there was no Mary from India."
"Pardon?"
"There was no Mary," you grin wickedly. "There was only Ralph. We met in the park. Every day. Alone. Doing whatever we wanted, with no supervision. Mary was a lie. And quite a good one, it seems."
"What?" she spits, the fury swirling on her face like a terrible storm rolling in. You're familiar with this look. You know what's coming.
"Ah, ah, ah," you stop her with a patronizing wag of your finger. "No yelling around our sweet baby Mary. We mustn't hurt her little ears."
You can see your mother's blood pressure rise. The heat blooms from her neck into her face, until finally, the vein on her forehead begins to bulge and pulse. You stare calmly, waiting for the steam to start pouring from her ears. You're not afraid of her anymore.
"Alright dear, let's let this little family spend some time together," your father suggests, a twinkle in his eye as he reaches for his hat.
Your mother shifts her glare from you to him, but reluctantly leaves her chair when he gives her a hard look.
"Congratulations again to you both. She's beautiful," your father says with a genuine smile, despite knowing the terror he'd have to put up with later. "If you need anything at all, I'm only a telephone call away."
"Thank you, sir," Ralph says, standing up to shake his hand.
When the door is closed and it's just the three of you again, Ralph takes his place beside you on the bed. He wraps his arms around you, cradling both you and your little Mary. You lean into him, smiling down at your tiny angel, and a thought occurs to you.
"Ralphie, my love? I fear I may need you to do something for me."
"You know I'd do anything for you," he says softly, chin resting on your shoulder, eyes on the beautiful little person you'd made together.
"Would you please keep putting babies in me until she's too old and frail to yell?"
Ralph tries to stifle his laugh, but being in such close proximity, he shakes the three of you with his silent giggles. When he finally composes himself, he whispers, "Ready whenever you are, love."
