Day 1 @ailesswhumptober - public torture/stress position
Asset 48 is accused of insubordination and used as a "lesson".
CW: torture, public torture, living weapon, dehuminisation.
AiLessWhumptober List Complex 27
The midday sun beat relentlessly down on the northern training yard of Complex 27, casting harsh, angular shadows across the rows of assembled assets. Standing in rigid formation, faces blank, eyes locked forward, their posture disciplined and mechanical. At the centre of the yard, a raised platform loomed, a stark reminder of what awaited any who were seen to defy the Facility.
A metallic sound slicing through the eerie silence, pulling every asset's attention to the impending spectacle. The clang echoed off the concrete walls as several handlers approached the platform, chains rattling in their hands.
"Asset 48. Step forward." Sergeant Kerr's voice cracked through the yard like a whip, cold and indifferent.
Ben caught a fleeting glance from Paul standing next to him, a flash of concern in his friend's eyes, an unspoken bond that made Ben feel less alone for a brief moment. He broke from the formation without hesitation, each step heavy with purpose. He could feel the eyes of his fellow assets on him, they all knew what was coming.
Focus. Don’t show weakness, he told himself, even as his heart raced.
“Insubordination,” they had called it.His refusal to follow a direct order during yesterday’s drill - enough to warrant this public correction.
A message had to be sent. One that would linger, not just in his mind, but in the eyes of every asset forced to watch.
“On your knees,” Kerr ordered, his voice indifferent, as though this were merely another routine part of a normal day.
Ben complied, dropping to his knees, the impact sending a jolt of pain up his legs. He focused on the physical sensation of the concrete, grounding himself as the cold steel of the chains quickly wrapped around his wrists and ankles, binding him in place. Kerr’s voice continued in the background, but Ben had tuned it out. Listening wouldn’t change anything; it wouldn’t ease the inevitable.
Two guards stepped forward with a long metal pole, forcing his arms behind him. They wrenched his limbs into an unnatural position, pulling them high above his back until his shoulders strained under the pressure. Ben could feel his muscles tighten, the ligaments protesting as his body was folded forward, bent at the waist, his chest nearly touching his knees. The pole was locked into place, and with it, the slow, methodical torture began.
A fire ignited within his muscles almost instantly. Stay still. Don’t let them see you struggle. The ache spread, relentless and consuming. Breathe through it. Breathe.
Ben gritted his teeth. Breath shallow. Every inhale burned. The sun beat down, relentless. Too hot. His shoulders - God, his shoulders. Like fire, searing, spreading. He tried to shift, just a fraction, but the chains bit deeper. More pain. Worse pain. Muscles trembling now, quivering. His breath hitched - too fast, too shallow.
Hold on.
His body screamed for release, a primal instinct clawing at his mind, but he would not give them that satisfaction, not now, not yet.
Not ever.
Sergeant Kerr paced slowly around the platform, his hands clasped behind his back, his eyes never leaving Ben’s contorted form. His voice, low and deliberate, carried across the yard. “Insubordination will never be tolerated. None of you are exempt.”
His words were aimed at the assembled assets, though none dared meet his gaze. Ben caught a glance at them, all stood like statues, eyes forward, , faces impassive. They were absorbing the lesson in silence. Each one knew that it could just as easily be them on the platform tomorrow.
Ben was just a warning, a cautionary tale.
Sergeant Kerr finally came to a stop in front of Ben, crouching down just enough so his voice could reach him without the others hearing. “You’re holding out well, Asset 48,” he muttered. “But I wonder how long it will be before you give in.”
Ben didn’t respond. His jaw clenched, breath ragged but controlled. He wouldn’t speak. He wouldn’t cry out. Whatever Kerr was waiting for, he wouldn’t give him that satisfaction.
With a small, almost imperceptible smirk, Kerr straightened and turned away, addressing the assets once more. “Remember this moment. This is what happens when you disobey. There is no leniency here. No mercy.”
Great. Just what I needed, another lesson in ‘how much more can I take.’ Kerr should be proud. His prize frontliner, reduced to nothing but a lesson. Muscles trembling uncontrollably, arms numb, his weakness on display for all to see.
I can't give in. I can’t let them win.
The weight of everyone’s eyes. He couldn’t see them - he didn’t need to. He could feel them. A hundred silent judgments. His fellow assets, watching, learning. Kerr’s eyes, calculating, predatory. And Paul... Paul standing so close yet unreachable, fists clenched at his sides, powerless to intervene.
I won’t break. I won’t become another lesson.
Stay strong.
He wouldn’t break.
Breathe. Just breathe.
The command, once so clear, now felt distant. His breath came faster, shallow and ragged, slipping out of his control. He gritted his teeth, trying to block out the burning sensation in his lungs, but even that was failing. The pain radiated through every fiber of his being, a relentless tide eroding his willpower.
I can’t. I—
His thoughts stumbled over themselves, faltering. For the first time, an unshakable truth pressed at the edges of his consciousness. He was going to break. He could feel it, an inevitability creeping in like a tide rising against a shore. He tried to suppress it, clinging to the last shreds of his resolve. But his body was no longer listening. His muscles twitched involuntarily, his vision narrowing to pinpricks of light, and the sounds of the yard faded into a distant hum.
No. Hold on. Just a little longer.
Ben squeezed his eyes shut, blocking out the brightness of the sun, the stifling heat that pressed in on him from every side. He tried to remember something else—anything else. Each breath came shallower than the last, his chest tightening against the pressure building inside him.
No. Just a little longer. Don’t let them win. Don’t let Kerr win.
He searched desperately for an anchor, something solid to hold onto. His vision was tunnelling now, narrowing to a blur of shadows and light. He blinked, trying to clear the haze, but the world remained stubbornly distant. His heartbeat hammered in his ears, a frantic rhythm that made his head spin. His lungs screamed for more air, but every attempt to inhale sent a new wave of pain crashing through his chest.
Don’t break
But his body was no longer listening.
The panic set in then, fast and brutal. His mind raced, instincts screaming at him to move, to fight, to breathe. But he couldn’t. His body was locked in place, the chains biting into his wrists and ankles, the pole forcing his arms up at a horrific angle. He squeezed his eyes shut, the brightness of the sun turning into a blinding white haze. His limbs were trembling, betraying him, shaking violently as the pain overwhelmed every nerve. His breath hitched again.
*No. Don’t. Not here. Not in front of them.*
And then it happened.
The gasp slipped out—barely audible, but it shattered the silence like glass.
It wasn’t a scream. But it was enough.
And then it came.
A gasp.
Quiet.
Barely audible.
But it shattered the silence like a scream.
He had failed. Right there, in front of them all.
The second gasp tore free from his throat, more a whimper this time, echoing through the yard like a death knell. The shame crashed over him, hot and suffocating, as if the sun’s rays had turned to ice. He could feel the weight of his peers' silent judgments, each stare a reminder of his failure.
His body had betrayed him, proof in his shaking arms and ragged breath. A second gasp escaped him, louder, sharper, as the pain surged again. He didn’t need to look to know Paul had seen - they all had.
Now, they knew the truth: he wasn’t strong enough.

OKAY THOUGHTS TIME
This should be more coherent than last weeks where I lost my mind since this episode feels more like a lead-up to the drama rather than the drama itself. Which is exciting!
It’s 6:48 A.M. and they’re heading to school…. y’all I keep forgetting it’s been less than 48 hours since Tyler got kebabed. It’s been well over a year real-time so it’s so easy to forget these kids literally get NO break.
They all look so exhausted :(
Rest In Pieces Logan’s Glasses. He looks terrifying without them, but glad he has contacts. Makes me wonder, will they be broken or intact in the Phantom World? I think they’ll be intact since (if I remember correctly been a few weeks since I’ve reread) once they interact with an object in Phantom World, the Real World stops affecting it. Like the jeep. Also, are we gonna get contacts Logan from now on, will he get a new style of glasses, or will he just replace the lenses in a few episodes? (Also that hurt as a Glasses User who does not wear them as often as she technically needs to I don’t like them sensory eueuhhj. They must be SO expensive)
Again, WHERE IS AIDEN’S MADRE?
Ryan following them again… go away sir.
I can’t tell if Mike was glancing back because he notices Ryan’s car following them or if he was just checking on the Graveyard Gang… but I wouldn’t put it past him to notice they’re being trailed. He’s very observant.
Okay little screaming moment… HDJKWHBJKHJIHJWI THAT PANEL KILLED ME (Everyone looks so DONE and ANGRY and EXHAUSTED and the collective “No.” was GREAT. And then we have Ben looking like a troubled cat that’s just… disappointed. It’s cracking me up)
Logan likes french toast and Taylor likes egg and sausage biscuits, noted.
BARRON GET YO CRUSTY HINEY AWAY BEFORE I SMACK YOU WITH A FLYSWATTER YOU P E S T
They all looked SO COOL telling those losers off. It hurts so much to see how resilient they’ve gotten, honestly. At the start of the series they would’ve been scared or crying, now they’re just mildly irked. They’ve witnessed horrors. (Also boy RUN Ben is about to go FERAL on you)
Logan is scaring me. If they are turning into phantoms, he’s turning fast. It seems triggered by negative emotions…. that could be why Logan and Taylor seem the most affected right now?
Ashlyn is breaking my heart but I’m still so proud of her. Sucks HOW she’s learned to open up but seeing her now compared to the beginning is insane. Purposely avoiding ANY human contact and relationships to dead-seriously asking Logan to stay with her. I love how much she’s grown. And her hand was shaking… she’s getting good at being more vulnerable too!
Barron doin’ the little “I’M WATCHING YOU” sign is too funny to me— AND TAYLOR DOES IT BACK UYHIGYHIGYH I MISSED THAT THE FIRST READ
I WAS FEHWJFRIHIGUJ I NEEEEEED THE MR THOMAS LORE NOW. HOW DOES HE KNOW? Okay actually I have a few possible theories:
He is a part of or has encountered the crane organization. I still can’t still if the origami on his desk was symbolism, foreshadowing, or both.
He’s got eye bags. Could be natural (like mine) or… could Mr. Thomas also be in the Phantom World? Or he was when he was younger? If so, he would be REALLY valuable as an asset for our group. If he was when he was a high schooler as well but escaped that could help too. Now I’m just ITCHING for lore
AUGH I love Red’s pacing but it’s so annoying at the same time. I can TELL we as a collective are staring to figure things out (and as a collective I mean everyone on Tumblr and the Webtoon comments) but we literally just don’t have enough information to fill in the blank spaces without wild guessing. And we have SOME answers but we don’t know what questions they answer yet. Does get me SUPER pumped for the future of the series though!
EDIT: BUZZCUT’S NAME IS RYAN THANK YOU @planetarymesss

Fantastic Four Vol 1 #161
Mon Aug 12 2019 [05:18 PM] Wack'd: FANTASTIC FOUR VOL 1 NO 161 [05:21 PM] Wack'd: Last time on Fantastic Four: Reed sold the Fantastic Four's branding and general corporate stuff to an evil corporation while, on Earth-A, the Reed who ended up with Ben's powers (Reed-A) has found that sale had catastrophic consequences [05:22 PM] Wack'd: And yes, it's Earth-A. Numbers weren't a thing yet I guess? Later it got retconned to Earth-721, but I'm sticking with A because it's easier [05:23 PM] Wack'd: So this issue opens with Reed testing his own version of the Danger Room? I guess? [05:24 PM] Wack'd: The perils of not having a sliding timescale
[05:30 PM] Wack'd: Reed lies to Sue and says he's worried about how Johnny took the sale, and Sue pretends to believe him but decides she's going to get to the bottom of what's really going on [05:30 PM] Wack'd: Meanwhile, Johnny is upset about the sale--and Crystal, still--and decides to go visit Valeria in the 5th Dimension to take his mind off things [05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: So, you're telling me, Reed is feeling his age and it starts with a lessened ability to firm up? [05:31 PM] Wack'd: Look, one in five superheroes-- [05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: PFFFT [05:31 PM] Aleph Null: reed's unable to remove the stick from his ass in his old age [05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: 🤣 [05:31 PM] Wack'd: Alright, get it out of your system [05:31 PM] Wack'd: I'll wait [05:32 PM] maxwellelvis: I guess now he'll have to get a new Fantasticar, a red one shaped like a Flash Gordon rocket [05:32 PM] maxwellelvis: Okay, I'm done now. [05:32 PM] Wack'd: Okay [05:32 PM] Wack'd: So, the 5-D natives think Johnny's "one of the cursed Andrones", whatever that means, and attack on sight [05:33 PM] Wack'd: Oh, Johnny, one of these days you'll date a girl whose entire civilization doesn't fly into chaos the moment you show up [05:33 PM] Bocaj: Are you sure? [05:33 PM] maxwellelvis: His next long-term love interest is Lyja Lazerfist, so that day is not any time soon. [05:33 PM] Bocaj: Lazerfist is a great name [05:34 PM] Wack'd: Lyja Lazerfist, of the New Hampshire Lazerfists [05:34 PM] Aleph Null: was johnny storm marvel's first disaster bi [05:35 PM] Wack'd: You're not gonna convince me Namor is straight [05:35 PM] maxwellelvis: Him or Iceman, funnily enough. [05:35 PM] Wack'd: Yeah Iceman is just a palette-swapped Johnny [05:35 PM] Aleph Null: @Wack'd namor is extremely straight [05:35 PM] Aleph Null: also isn't iceman monosexual gay [05:36 PM] Wack'd: Name one straight man with the confidence to walk around in nothing but bright green briefs [05:36 PM] maxwellelvis: I'd say Namor probably goes around with "I'm Too Sexy" in his head all day, but that really doesn't argue in favor of him being straight. [05:36 PM] Wack'd: ANYWAY [05:37 PM] Wack'd: Phineas, ruler of 5-D, convinces the natives Johnny isn't one of the robots they've been fighting [05:37 PM] Wack'd: (Deeply suspect Jim Hammond is in this one) [05:37 PM] maxwellelvis: Grand Vizier Ferb remains suspicious. [05:38 PM] maxwellelvis: But he won't let anyone know until he acts on those suspicions enough to confirm or deny them; [05:38 PM] maxwellelvis: he's more a man of action. [05:38 PM] Wack'd: Chancellor Perry meanwhile doesn't do much [05:39 PM] Wack'd: Anyway it turns out, remember those Universal Horror robots Ben-A was building last ish? Turns out he sent a buncha them to attack 5-D for some reason [05:39 PM] Wack'd: Oh hey a Doctor Who reference
[05:40 PM] maxwellelvis: I think they had the license at this time, at least in the US. [05:40 PM] maxwellelvis: Or the UK, but the Doctor did have a brief run in Marvel Premier in the 70's [05:40 PM] Wack'd: They definitely did in the UK [05:41 PM] Wack'd: Doctor Who Magazine started out as a Marvel UK publication [05:41 PM] Wack'd: That's not for another year or so though [05:42 PM] Bocaj: The daleks show up in an issue of iron fist and power man [05:43 PM] Wack'd: Sick burn on the Distinguished Competition outta nowhere
[05:44 PM] Wack'd: Turns out there's one respect in which NYC-A isn't like NYC-616 [05:44 PM] maxwellelvis: It's more like a Poking To The Head if you ask me. [05:45 PM] Wack'd: Ben: I'll say this for you people: you've got rats like they wouldn't believe!
[05:45 PM] Bocaj: Maybe we’re the bad earth? [05:45 PM] Bocaj: No dinosaurs at all except in Antarctica [05:46 PM] maxwellelvis: Ehh, this still feels pretty normal for Marvel New York [05:46 PM] maxwellelvis: Time-displaced dinosaurs and Vikings running amok, sure, must be Thursday. [05:47 PM] Wack'd: So on this Earth Nelson Rockefeller, not Gerald Ford, is president [05:48 PM] Wack'd: ("I didn't vote for 'im," quips Ben, "or Ford either, far as that goes.") [05:48 PM] Bocaj: Hah [05:49 PM] Wack'd: Anyway Pres Stallone says over the TV in a nearby TV shop that he thinks all of these anachronisms are being caused by Earth-616 and plans to declare war [05:49 PM] Wack'd: (He doesn't say 616 because Alan Moore hasn't shown up yet but for the sake of simplicity) [05:54 PM] Wack'd: The military puts NYC-A under martial law and Ben-A knocks out Ben-616 to keep the military from firing on him [05:56 PM] Bocaj: What a nice fella [05:56 PM] Wack'd: ⭐ You Tried ⭐
[05:56 PM] Umbramatic: oof [05:58 PM] Wack'd: Man can you imagine if this arc had been popular or influential [05:58 PM] Wack'd: We might be living in a world where Marvel universes have letters instead of numbers [05:59 PM] Bocaj: Only 26 universes, imagine [05:59 PM] Bocaj: The New 26 [05:59 PM] Wack'd: Might've been like on Excel spreadsheets where the letters double and triple up after a while [05:59 PM] Wack'd: Earth-Z, Earth-AA, Earth-AB, etc [06:00 PM] maxwellelvis: And On Beyond Zebra [06:00 PM] Wack'd: The 5th Dimension later got retconned to Earth-6212, ftr [06:01 PM] Wack'd: Anyway, Earth-616 is entering another ice age, and the news is blaming Earth-5D [06:01 PM] Bocaj: Of course [06:02 PM] Bocaj: Climate change is caused by alternate realities [06:02 PM] Aleph Null: ... [06:02 PM] Aleph Null: Earth-PEE [06:02 PM] Wack'd: Sure [06:03 PM] Wack'd: So anyway turns out Earth-5D's weapon supplier is the same corporation as the one Reed-A and Reed-616 sold their assets to [06:03 PM] Wack'd: Quel shock [06:03 PM] Umbramatic: oh no

Arrow 7x15: Training Day “Not-So-Live” Blog
And here’s another “not-so-live” blog for episode 15.
Enjoy!
1:48 - Team Arrow could take out the entire SCPD if they wanted to with one hand tied behind their backs.
3:20 - Things were better when Oliver was mayor. I mean, there was Diaz and nearly the entire city government was hell bent on taking him out, but he was a better mayor than Mayor Pollard.
3:42 - Hearing Oliver say "our baby.”
Also, he is totally the health crazed husband who makes Felicity weird super food meals with kale and broccoli and quinoa when all she wants is mac and cheese and chocolate and ice cream.
Oliver and Felicity talking about children and babies and their family will always make me smile. They are so stinking cute.
4:52 - "I'm starving. I'm also nauseous."
I'm sure there are plenty of fics out there where we see Oliver doting on a pregnant Felicity and he's talking to her belly and feeling their kid kick and playing it classical music and totally being a doting husband/soon-to-be father. Cause something tells me we are not going to get much of the happy on this show.
5:49 - William and Mia look so different. And they already know each other so well.
7:50 - Ok. Ew. What is in those bullets?
10:45 - Felicity excited about being able to say the dead guys' skin melted off makes me laugh.
11:10 - I know the SCPD has protocol, but with Team Arrow being deputized, what they can do is legal. Why not use their resources? Like Felicity said, it would be so much faster.
12:05 - Oh, William. Why didn't you listen to your little sister?
13:20 - At least someone is paying attention to Ben Turner.
13:47 - "Oliver made me a promise before he left here. He said he'd get me my freedom. Where is it?"
Yeah, where is it, Oliver? Lyla? Because with Diaz dead, you have a new opening for a Ghost Initiative recruit. And you probably won't even need to put a bomb in his head!
15:36 - How in the hell is this partnership supposed to work if they can't even wear their uniforms or weapons?!
16:00 - Seeing Team Arrow in the field without their usual leathers feels so very wrong.
16:48 - "Loophole!"
24:40 - "Have I told you lately how smart you are?”
"Well I never get tired of hearing it."
24:50 - Random Pregnancy Craving Alert! "I want mint chip."
I wouldn't put it past Oliver to make Felicity some ultra-healthy organic mint chip ice cream.
26:38 - "You have failed this city!"
It is so refreshing to hear that phrase again!
27:25 - I love that Oliver got fed up and did his own thing, but that is gonna come back to bite him in the ass when Midas gets to walk on a technicality.
31:56 - "Come here, my little hawk."
So Connor Hawke is Ben Turner's son turned John Diggle's adopted son. Wonder how that happened.
32:57 - Emiko killed Diaz? Why?
Right before Diaz died it sounded like he knew who was standing at his door. Did he know Emiko? Did they work together for Dante?
Emiko is getting shadier by the episode...
33:50 - So that’s why Dinah was obsessing over the partnership working out. She lost her Canary Cry. I wonder if that’s still the case in the flashforwards. I mean, don’t tell me Felicity or Curtis didn’t come up with some sort of tech to help her.
I still don't like Rene, but he gave Dianh the pep talk/kick in the behind she needed.
34:57 - FELICITY FIXED UP THE ARROW CAVE! It looks so good!
But if she fixed it back up, why is it in ruins again in the flashforwards?
35:11 - OTA SCENE!!!!!!!
Oh it's been so long! I missed them so much!
35:52 - "We're having a baby."
"That's amazing! That's wonderful!"
I feel like Digg is gonna keep popping in at random moments giving both Oliver and Felicity baby and pregnancy advice.
"We're going to do this the Team Arrow Way."
The best way.
36:40 - William comparing Mia to Oliver and his catchphrase.
"That's a dumb thing to say."
"That's what our dad used to say."
38:14 - "You're a genius."
"I am. Like, literally."
39:46 - With Felicity using the Arrow Computers and her home security system, are we seeing the Archer program develop in real time? Also, when will we see Felicity handling Helix?
40:25 - "Suit Up!”
43:29 - Seeing Team Arrow out in the field with their leathers? This feels right!
45:44 - Now that's how you do it! Use your assets and work together!
49:06 - THAT WINK!!!
49:22 - Diggle giving Felicity ginger chews to help with her nausea. AW! Delicity!
49:50 - "I think you're on to something big."
50:36 - Emiko knows Laurel is Black Siren? Is that because she's from another Earth?
Also, Laurel, don't let your fears keep you from telling at least Felicity about Emiko. Team Arrow would be angrier at you for knowing and keeping it a secret than telling them.
52:00 - Olicity baby names! Lucas and Mia. "Short for Moira."
52:29 - "They'll always have each other to lean on."
Clearly we know this didn’t pan out.
53:10 - Felicity rambles even when she's making a recording to her children.
53:48 - "Your father and I did it to protect you. We did it because we love you."
54:11 - "So we're ignoring her."
"Definitely."
Really. Did anyone expect any different?
Great episode this week! Some great OTA scenes and plenty of cutesy Olicity, which I will never get tired of. Looking forward to the next episode!

ESTERHÁZY Marcell: fillér 48.
2015-ben költöztünk a második kerületi Fillér utcába. A lakás előző tulajdonosa S.J. 2012-es halál óta a lakás üresen állt, úgy, ahogyan ő hagyta. Szinte teljesen kiürült a lakás.
Genehmigt Von der Reichsleitung der NSDAP N.304 CARL LANGGUTH Kunstverlag POSEN-BERLIN SO 36
/ We moved to the Fillér street of the second district in 2015. Since the death of its previous owner, S.J. in 2012, the flat was there, empty, exactly the way he left it. As he had no relatives, his movable properties were left to the state. We couldn’t touch anything until the National Asset Management came to collect his things and recorded them to the inventory. The flat became basically empty. What was left: some broken furniture, a couple of photos, some indifferent, framed prints, plenty of postcards and a lot of dirt.
There was one picture left on the wall of the bedroom. A discoloured photo that, as I remember, pictured the Acropolis. In a thin, golden-coloured frame, behind glass. I unhung it from the wall so I could throw it away. I realized only then that there’s a stamp at the back of the photo and the stamp is wrapped around, and the wrapping is tied down with cellux.
I looked at the caption and to my greatest surprise, I found this:
Genehmigt Von der Reichsleitung der NSDAP N.304 CARL LANGGUTH Kunstverlag POSEN-BERLIN SO 36
I didn’t understand what the stamp of the National Socialist German Workers' Party has to do with the photo of the Acropolis. All this in the Fillér street, in our new, prospective home. I disassembled the frame, the glass and the photo, and then I realized that the pasteboard functioning as the back of the photo is actually a huge multiplied graphic portraying Adolf Hitler.
How could it get there? Who made the photo? Who was S.J.? Who did he live with in the same building? This short research won’t provide an answer to all these questions but it will try to go after all the elements of this story to present them. It became clear very fast that the photo would mostly function as a catalyst that inspires the residents of the building to remember, and it will show how many stories, dramas and curiosities can be hidden in a small building with three apartments in Buda.
Documentation of the whole project can be found here.

Grading the Kings-Pacers trade for Domantas Sabonis and Tyrese Haliburton
Let’s grade the massive deal between the Kings and Pacers.
The Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings were two teams in desperate need of a shake-up. About 48 hours before the 2022 NBA trade deadline, the franchises agreed to a bold deal headlined by a swap of foundational pieces.
The Pacers have traded Domantas Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb, Justin Holiday, and a 2027 second draft pick to Sacramento for Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Hield, and Tristan Thompson, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
This is a massive trade that immediately changes both the short-term and long-term outlooks for both franchises. It’s an admission from both sides that their ‘star’ pairings weren’t working. The Kings are breaking up the De’Aaron Fox-Haliburton backcourt, while the Pacers are breaking up the Myles Turner-Sabonis front court.
The Kings were rumored to be interested in Ben Simmons, but ultimately traded their best assets for Sabonis. The Pacers meanwhile finally chose a direction after so much speculation about the status of the Turner-Sabonis pairing. Haliburton should be a piece they can build around for a long time.
Let’s grade this trade from both sides.
The Kings get an All-Star big man to pair with De’Aaron Fox
The Kings had a ton of big men on their roster, but none of them had the talent or credentials of Sabonis. The 6’11, 240-pound Sabonis will turn 26 years old at the end of this season, and already has two All-Star nods to his name. He’s one of the game’s better interior scorers and rebounders, and one of the best passing bigs in the league.
Sabonis can be the hub of an offense at his best. He’s He’s averaging 19 points per game this season while posting a 22.8 percent assist rate that ranks in the 96th percentile of all bigs, per Cleaning the Glass. Sabonis will take some threes — he’s hitting 32.4 percent of his triples on 2.3 attempts per game this season — but he does the majority of his work from the high or low post.
The big question throughout Sabonis’ career has been his ability to anchor a defense as a rim protector. He’s never been a good never been a shot blocker, posting a 0.7 percent block rate this season that ranks in the sixth percentile of all bigs, per Cleaning the Glass. Of course, Indiana typically had an elite shot blocker in Turner near the basket, which had Sabonis playing more away from the rim.
Sacramento also has another solid offensive big man who struggles to protect the rim currently on the roster in Richaun Holmes. It will be fascinating to see if the Kings deal Holmes or try to play both bigs together.
Kings grade: C
Sabonis is a young and productive big man on a below market contract that will pay him $20 million next season and $21 million in 2023-24. It’s difficult to find an All-Star caliber player on a more team-friendly deal, rookie contracts aside. There’s no doubt he’s a major talent upgrade in the front court for Sacramento. This deal still unfortunately reeks of the Kings making another shortsighted move yet again.
On the brink of his 22nd birthday, Haliburton is more of the more promising young guards in the league. He has the sort of length, shooting, and impressive defensive instincts team covet, and he’s still on a rookie deal for two more seasons after this one. It felt like it only would have been worth it for the Kings to deal Haliburton for a superstar, and while Sabonis is very good, he’s not quite at that level.
For all the concern about Fox’s pairing with Haliburton, there will remain concerns about how Fox fits with Sabonis. Neither Fox or Sabonis are good outside shooters. Both like to play with the ball in their hands. Each has a reputation as a defensive liability at this point in their careers. While adding Sabonis is likely a talent upgrade in the aggregate, this feels like the sort of impulsive move that has defined the Kings through almost two decades of mismanagement.
The Pacers add a promising young guard to build around for the future
This deal is all about Haliburton for the Pacers. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Haliburton has emerged as one of the more promising players from his class. While he lacks takeover scoring ability, Haliburton brings a lot of skills to the table that should fit in a variety of different lineups.
The thin 6’5 guard is averaging 14.3 points, 7.4 assists, near four rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game this year. He’s hitting 49 percent of his two-pointer, 41.3 percent of his three-pointers, and 83 percent of his free throws. Haliburton has just seemed to get better and better every year since his breakout freshman season at Iowa State, and he should continue to improve as he goes on his career.
Haliburton’s biggest shortcoming is that he doesn’t put much pressure on the rim offensively, He only takes 15 percent of his shots at the basket this year, which ranks in the 15th percentile among combo guards, per Cleaning the Glass. He’s not going to draw a ton of free throws, either. When Haliburton does get to the rim, he’s a very good finisher — making 64 percent of his attempts from in close, which ranks in the 75th percentile at his position — but his game is more about everything else he brings to the table.
Haliburton is an ideal ‘connector’ piece who can space the floor as a shooter, beat a set defense with quick passes, and help force turnovers defensively by playing the passing lanes. He’s a high-IQ player who does plenty of little things to help teams win even if his lack of juice off the dribble seems to limit just how high his ceiling is.
Haliburton joins a backcourt that already includes promising rookie shooting guard Chris Duarte, Veteran point guard Malcolm Brogdon is still around, too. The Pacers needed a move to balance out their roster, and this feels like a big success for them despite trading their best player. A Midwest native from Wisconsin, Haliburton should quickly emerge as a quality long-term building block and fan favorite in Indiana.
The 29-year-old Hield is also one of the best shooters in the league. He’s under contract for the next two seasons making $20.5 million next year and $18.5 million in 2023-24. While he’s unlikely a long-term fit in Indiana, it’s possible the Pacers can trade him for additional future assets.
Pacers grade: A
The Pacers always seemed destined to break up the Sabonis-Turner pairing. Getting a talent like Haliburton in return for breaking up that pairing seems like a big win for Indiana.
The Pacers suddenly look like they have a bright future ahead of them. Haliburton and Durate is a super young, super intriguing backcourt with size and shooting. Turner is still a quality center who can block shots and stretch the floor. Brogdon is a good all-around veteran guard, and T.J. Warren can be a contributor too if he ever gets healthy. Plus, the Pacers are currently in position to have the No. 5 overall pick entering the lottery. If the Pacers can jump into the top four and select one of Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith Jr., or Jaden Ivey, they will suddenly have one of the better young cores in the league.
While most assumed Turner would be the one traded, Sabonis’ unique skill set made him arguably more challenging to build around. The Pacers probably still don’t have a future superstar on the roster, but Haliburton is a ‘star in his role’ type who makes everyone around him better. Given his developmental trajectory over the last few years, it would also be foolish to cap his ceiling.
The Pacers just got a lot more exciting with this trade even if losing a proven contributor like Sabonis hurts in the present.

Pointless, Elegant, Beautiful: Simon Baker on Surfing and Breath
Following his directorial debut, the actor and the cast of his new Australian film talk waves, danger and role models.
Published on 10 May 2018 by WILL COX Thanks to @SBaker_Ney
“It’s more of a sport now,” says Simon Baker. “When I was a kid it was more counterculture, like in the film. I remember being the same age as these guys.” He gestures across the table at Coulter and Spence.
Somewhere on the coast of Australia in the 1970s, some men go surfing. The waves are high, so high the sensitive one – still a teenager – is scared. His companions cajole him into the sea with a combination of encouragement and mockery.
This is Breath, a new film adapted from the Tim Winton novel of the same name. At the heart of the film are three men: teenagers Pikelet (Samson Coulter) and Loonie (Ben Spence), a pair who are discovering surfing; and Sando (Simon Baker, who also directs the film), a much older daredevil who assumes the mantle of mentor. The film is filled with adolescent tipping points. We follow Pikelet closest through his changing friendship with Loonie and Sando. The quest for danger, for breathlessness, escalates.
“It’s more of a sport now,” says Simon Baker. “When I was a kid it was more counterculture, like in the film. I remember being the same age as these guys.” He gestures across the table at Coulter and Spence.
I’m sitting with all three leads at the Village Roadshow office in Melbourne, and it’s clear they’re real surfers – all three are tanned and toned, their hair and skin coloured and textured by sun. (Admittedly their tousled, blond-tipped locks might have had the help of a good salon.)
Coulter and Spence are a bit older than their film personas (18 and 17, respectively), but they’re still firmly in teenage land, giggling and sharing private jokes. Spence, the more boisterous of the two in the film, says almost nothing, working simultaneously on a takeaway coffee, a bottle of water, a mandarin and some biscuits. (Also with us, as if to hammer home the father-son dynamic of the film, is Baker’s own 16-year-old son Harry, another surfer.) At 48, Baker doesn’t seem old when I see him on his own. But nothing ages you like proximity to youth.
The trio spent six weeks shooting the film together and neither Coulter nor Spence had ever acted before. The dynamic between Baker and his young protégés is very similar to the dynamic in the film. Baker will make a point, and the boys will occasionally interject. But it’s clear he’s the mentor, dad, pack leader.
A few weeks ago Tim Winton wrote a piece for the Guardian about the problem with boys. “There’s so much about them and in them that’s lovely,” he writes. “Graceful. Dreamy. Vulnerable. Qualities we either don’t notice, or simply blind ourselves to. You see, there’s great native tenderness in children. In boys, as much as in girls. But so often I see boys having the tenderness shamed out of them.”
Breath retains these ideas, including Winton’s exploration of tenderness and terrible male role models, and surfing as a ritual to explore it.
“I’ve talked to Tim a lot about that,” says Baker. “I still surf as much as I can. I go to the beach and see kids individually and chat with them and they’re fantastic, and then see them in groups and they’re idiots. Are they the same people? Which of those children, when it comes to the crunch, will revert to who they are as an individual, instead of turning to the mob mentality? At what point do you check yourself and pull back? That’s the essence of the story. You guys are probably witness to it,” he says to Spence and Coulter.
Spence nods. “You do stupid shit,” he says, succinctly.
“Regrettable stuff,” Baker corrects.
“My character is out of date,” Baker goes on. “Sons outgrow their fathers, and fathers can learn a lot from their sons. That happens to us all the time. Sometimes I won’t know how to approach something. My son tells me I go too far.”
Harry looks up, vaguely aware he’s being talked about. So, I ask, when has your dad gone too far? Harry laughs and shrugs.
Baker laughs, too. “Maybe you’re going too far right now, mate,” he says to me, probably joking.
So, I ask the boys, did the script ring true to you as surfers?
“Yeah,” says Spence. “We get into mischief, out at night. It’s a good thing, going in the surf.”
“There’s only so much of that you can do in the surf,” adds Coulter.
“Well,” says Spence, “you might die, but still.”
How real is the danger?
“It depends,” says Coulter. “Sometimes you get out there and just know. Sometimes you think it’s fine and then there’ll be a shift, and it’ll go from fun-scary to shit-scary.”
Breath is evangelical about surfing. It’s described in hushed tones as “pointless, elegant, beautiful”, a kind of spiritual congress between man and ocean. On land, the complicated, tangled dynamics of the trio remain beneath the surface. On the ocean, the release is palpable.
For Baker, capturing that freedom was imperative. He went in knowing that he had to do justice to the world of surfing. “We’re all from that world,” says Baker. “What I had in common with these two was the culture of the sport. If I had actors rather than surfers I’d have to teach them all that.”
“You can’t really teach it,” says Coulter.
One of the film’s best assets is its realness. When they’re on the water, it’s very believably a skilled surfer, on a board, on a wave. Baker says that if they did all the character groundwork but the surfing didn’t look real, the film would collapse.
“I watched the American version of Animal Kingdom on the plane the other day,” he says. “All the actors are playing tough surfer types, and when they get to the beach they’re all on Mini Mals. It’s hopeless. It undermines everything.”
“What’s Animal Kingdom?” asks Coulter.
“You didn’t see the film?”
“No.”
“Yeah, well,” says Baker, “if you want to be an actor you’re going to have to start looking at some movies, mate.”
Coulter looks reproached, but doesn’t say anything. Maybe he’ll save it for the surf.
Breathe is playing in cinemas nationwide.

Day 7 @comfy-vember - prompt: falling asleep on shoulder
In the transport vehicle on the way back from a long day Ash is very tired.
I'm aware today is the 3rd but meh to chronology 😝
Comfy-vember master list Complex 27 Ash
The low hum of the transport vehicle was a constant presence, the sound mingling with the occasional clank of metal as it navigated the uneven terrain. Paul sat opposite Ash and Ben, his eyes flicking between them as the rhythmic vibration of the vehicle seemed to lull everyone into a trance.
He watched Ash as his head dipped forwards over and over, dark eyes fluttering closed before snapping back open, annoyance flickering across his features each time he jolted awake.
The cycle was relentless—and if Paul was honest, it was frustrating to witness.
It wasn’t unusual for assets to doze off during the long, monotonous rides in the transport vehicles. Paul glanced around the cramped cabin, taking in the sight of at least three other assets already lost to sleep, their bodies swaying gently in rhythm with the vehicle’s movements, completely oblivious to the world outside. The constant vibrations and the hum of the engine seemed to wrap around them, creating a cocoon of weariness that was impossible to resist.
As he returned his gaze to Ash, noting the gradual slowing of his blinks. His head lolled again, tousled brown hair falling over his forehead and obscuring his eyes. For a fleeting moment, it looked like Ash might finally surrender to sleep, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. But then, with a sudden jerk, he snapped back to alertness, shaking his head roughly. Gaze remaining unfocused, and distant.
“Ash,” Paul finally said, his voice low enough not to disturb the others, “just go to sleep. Seriously this is getting painful to watch.”
He watched Ash, hoping to see some sign of acquiescence, but instead, Ash shot him a weary glance, defiance flickering in his gaze. “I can’t,” he murmured, the exhaustion evident in his voice. “Gotta stay alert.”
“Stay alert for what?” Paul scoffed, frustration creeping into his tone. He gestured vaguely at their surroundings, the barren landscape whipping by outside the vehicle’s small windows. “We’re on our way back to the complex. There’s no one—”
Before he could finish, Ash’s eyes fluttered shut once again. The transport jolted slightly over a bump in the road, and Ash slumped sideways, his head coming to rest against Ben’s shoulder.
Ben tensed at the sudden contact, his breath hitching. For a moment, he held stiff, half-expecting Ash to wake up and shift away. But instead, Ash murmured something incomprehensible and instinctively shifted closer, seeking solace in the warmth of his friend.
Paul’s eyebrow quirked up at the sight, and a hint of a smirk danced at the corners of his lips. “finally,” he remarked softly, leaning back in his seat. “you okay with him using you as a pillow?"
Ben let out a quiet sigh, glancing down at Ash, who was now utterly relaxed against him. He hadn’t expected this contact; Ash was typically so guarded, keeping even his friends at arm's length. Would Ash be angry when he woke up? Embarrassed?
“Yeah, I’m… fine with it,” he finally replied quietly, trying to sound casual. But even as he spoke, his heart quickened. Ash was going to hate this.
The vehicle hit another bump, and Ash nestled closer, instinctively seeking more of Ben’s warmth. A wave of protectiveness surged within him. He adjusted slightly, making sure Ash was comfortable without disturbing him. “He’ll probably punch me when he wakes up,” he muttered.
"Nah, Ash isn't the punching type," Paul smirked, "he's more... Stabby."
Ben snorted, "great," he muttered rolling his eyes.
“Just wake him up before we get there,” Paul added, his voice light. “Kerr's been in a mood recently, and I don't think he'll appreciate Ash bring half asleep through the debreif.”
Ben chuckled softly, nodding. “Yeah, I’ll make sure he’s alert before we go in.” But for now, he'd just let Ash sleep.

CHAPTER 2: LEARNING TO COPE
I woke up in a hospital bed, tubes and wires connecting me to strange machines that made me be. I didn’t notice the missing piece in my heart until I fully came to. I felt empty, lost, like I was on the outside looking in. When the doctor noticed I was awake, he debriefed me on my current state. Apparently I’ve been unconscious for a whole week and will need to have a psychiatric evaluation and therapy every couple of days because of the traumatic incidents that had happened, starting today.
What I noticed first throughout the day was my overwhelming sense of guilt, then came the flashbacks that were triggered by sights, sounds, smells, feelings, situations, etc. Being on base with the Resistance, these triggers were fairly common. Death and destruction followed the Resistance like a shadow. It was unavoidable.
The more I witnessed, the more I dissociated myself. It was a never ending cycle. Flashbacks led to dissociation which led to remembering the broken force bond which led to further dissociation. I had no break, no period of relaxation. It’s like I’m sleepwalking, like a puppet watching myself somewhere in the precepts of my mind.
Talking to the psychiatrist gave me some mental relief. According to him, the SSRI he prescribed to me would lessen my symptoms and the depersonalization symptoms will go away with further therapy. The broken force bond, however, he could not help with. I don’t think anyone can. In the meantime, I need to find someone who can pick up where Master Skywalker left off.
Kylo Ren POV
It’s so hard watching and feeling her suffer like that. I wish I could reach out to her and tell her I’m still alive, but Supreme Leader Snoke blocked her side of the force bond. Even if he didn’t I doubt she’d want to see that Ben was killed by Kylo Ren. I doubt she’d still love me if she saw what I had become. That didn’t stop the feeling of wanting her close to me. I need her, but she’ll never find out who I truly am and who’s behind the mask. I don’t care, I just need to feel her presence close to me, and I know exactly how I’m going to do that.
As I walked to the meeting with the Supreme Leader, the ever irritating General Hux joins me by my side. “What do you want, General? If you don’t have anything worth my time, I suggest you leave me alone.” “Careful, Ren… you know I could have your precious pet killed whenever I feel like it. However, I do believe she might be of great value to the First Order if she joins. Hopefully then will you stop sulking around and be productive.” He muttered the last part under his breath but I pretended not to hear. “Yes, I agree. She is strong with the force, stronger than me. She does not know this and she needs the right teacher. I plan to notify him about the proposal during the meeting.” “I was on my way to do that myself.” He trailed off
Our words just now registered in our minds. First of all, we both agreed on something. Secondly, I admitted she was stronger than me when it comes to the force. We stared at each other with utter shock and uncomfortable silence. After what seemed like forever, I finally spoke up: “Don’t you have a meeting to attend to, General?” “Ren, we’re going to the same meeting.” “Oh, right.”
(Time skip presented by shirtless Kylo Ren)
“Supreme Leader, she is strong with the force, stronger than she knows, stronger than I know. I can feel it within her. If she had the right teacher, she would become a valuable asset to the First Order.” “Supreme Leader, if I may.” Hux interjected. “With her on our side, our chances of destroying the Resistance increases 78 percent.” “You have 48 hours to find this girl and bring her to me. If you two truly believe she can bring an end to the Resistance, we have no choice but to extort her powers.”
I inwardly growled at his choice of words, but I was glad that he agreed to finally have her here with me. Together we can bring order to the galaxy, me the emperor and her the empress. My true love will finally be with me once again, but she shall not know what lies behind the mask. For her safety and sanity it must remain that way. I still love her, but she wouldn’t stand the monster I have become. You caused this! You did this to me! Those words echo in my head every time I think of her. She could never forgive me after that.
A/N: Chapter 2 is finally out! I am so sorry that this is late. I just haven’t been the best and I needed to shift my focus on my family.
Feedback is much appreciated. Like and Share!

Billion-Dollar Paydays in a Pandemic These managers made bank Today, Institutional Investor unveiled the 20th edition of its Rich List, one of the most watched rankings of hedge fund managers’ performance. Every year, financial tycoons pore over the magazine’s estimates of whose fortunes are up the most. Last year, the top 25 managers earned $32 billion even as the economy crashed and markets wobbled. Over all, hedge funds returned 11.6 percent last year, according to Hedge Fund Research, their best performance in a decade but not enough to keep pace with the S&P 500, which was up 16 percent. “It may not be seemly, but it remains fact,” the magazine’s editors wrote. Here are the top earners, according to the list: Izzy Englander of Millennium Management, who earned an estimated $3.8 billion and whose flagship fund produced a 26 percent return. Jim Simons of Renaissance Technologies, who earned $2.6 billion and whose flagship generated a 76 percent return (but whose fund open to outside investors lost big). Chase Coleman of Tiger Global Management, who earned $2.5 billion and whose top fund returned 48 percent. Ken Griffin of Citadel, who earned $1.8 billion and whose main fund returned 24 percent. (The firm has made headlines for other reasons, too.) Steve Cohen of Point72 Asset Management and David Tepper of Appaloosa Management both earned an estimated $1.7 billion. The rest of the best: Philippe Laffont of Coatue Management ($1.6 billion), Andreas Halvorsen of Viking Global Investors and Scott Shleifer of Tiger Global (both $1.5 billion), and Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management ($1.4 billion). HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING New restrictions for the Paycheck Protection Program. For two weeks beginning on Wednesday, only businesses with fewer than 20 employees will be eligible to apply for loans from the glitch-prone emergency aid program. Separately, the Small Business Administration will revise how it calculates loans to help self-employed individuals. Boeing calls for grounding another of its airplane models. The company recommended a worldwide halt to flights using its 777 model with a particular Pratt & Whitney engine. The move came after a United Airlines flight suffered engine failure over Colorado, shedding debris over neighborhoods before landing safely in Denver. Texas’s energy markets come under scrutiny. The state’s uniquely independent and largely deregulated electrical grid has been criticized for being ill-prepared for last week’s severe winter storms and for saddling some customers with thousands of dollars in power bills. Good news for Pfizer and BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine. Data from Israel showed that just one dose prevented 75 percent of infections, potentially bolstering arguments for delaying second shots. (The research didn’t determine how long single-dose protection lasted.) The drug companies also announced that their vaccine could be stored safely in standard freezers for up to two weeks, which might mean it can be deployed more widely. A security breach highlights Clubhouse’s weaknesses. An unidentified user streamed audio from several chat rooms on the increasingly popular social network to a third-party website. The Stanford Internet Observatory, which first highlighted concerns about privacy on Clubhouse, warned that users should assume all their activity on the app is public and being recorded. Exclusive: Traeger fires up a sale The high-end grill maker has interviewed investment banks in recent weeks for what could be either a sale or an I.P.O., DealBook hears. Traeger, which has about $160 million in operating earnings, is growing quickly: Sales rose more than 20 percent last year. The company is hoping for a valuation that tops $3 billion, which may be too high for a buyer but could match public market appetite. The private equity firm AEA Investors, which acquired control of Traeger in 2017 for an undisclosed amount, declined to comment. Grill sales soared during the pandemic, as people stuck at home lit up the barbecue. Traeger’s wood-pellet-fueled grills can run into the thousands of dollars and come outfitted with Wi-Fi (“WiFire”) technology to adjust heat settings from a smartphone. At-home grilling could slow as economies reopen and people spend less time at home, but in that case, Traeger also sells accessories and grills made for travel. Traeger is the latest company looking to capitalize on a pandemic bump, testing the lofty premiums that investors are willing to fork out. McCormick paid $800 million to buy Cholula hot sauce as home cooking pushed spice sales, and Hormel paid $3.35 billion to buy Kraft Heinz’s once stalled Planters business as consumers sought comfort foods. Shares of Yeti, a maker of fancy coolers, have more than doubled over the past year, giving it a market capitalization of $6.5 billion. “When the pandemic ends, cash could be unleashed like melting snow in the Rockies.” — The Times’s Ben Casselman on the rising expectations among economists that a supercharged economic boom may come at the end of the pandemic. Tesla’s Bitcoin bet is paying off The price of Bitcoin set another record over the weekend, briefly rising above $58,000 per coin. And Elon Musk tweeted about it, cementing his status as one of crypto’s highest-profile backers. Tesla is set to make more profit from buying Bitcoin than selling electric cars, according to a research note by Daniel Ives at Wedbush Securities. A few weeks ago, the company said it had bought $1.5 billion in Bitcoin in order to diversify its balance sheet. The rapid rise in Bitcoin since then implies a gain, on paper, of roughly $1 billion; that’s more than Tesla earned from selling cars last year, the first time it turned a full-year profit. (Tesla also made more from another tangential business, selling renewable energy credits to other automakers.) Will more companies now follow its lead? Gaudy numbers like this might make C.F.O.s think twice about the cash and low-yielding bonds on their balance sheets. “It’s clearly been a good initial investment and a trend we expect could have a ripple impact for other public companies over the next 12 to 18 months,” Mr. Ives wrote. He expects less than 5 percent of public companies will shift corporate cash into cryptocurrency, which would still be a big jump. The week ahead The House is expected to pass President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill at the end of the week, probably in a party-line vote. The Senate may take it up shortly after. The Fed chair Jay Powell testifies before Congress on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will most likely emphasize the need for more economic stimulus. On Tuesday, HSBC reports earnings, and the bank may also announce steps to move top executives from London to Hong Kong, The Financial Times reports. Other earnings highlights include Home Depot on Tuesday, Nvidia on Wednesday, Airbnb and Salesforce on Thursday, and Berkshire Hathaway on Saturday, when Warren Buffett’s widely followed annual letter on the state of business, markets and politics is also expected. THE SPEED READ Deals Today in SPACs: Elliott Management, Michael Dell and the former Xerox chief Ursula Burns have all filed to raise blank-check funds.
Jeffrey Epstein carriera
E all’epoca avevano un valore assurdo.
Tra i suoi ultimi investimenti (2015) c’è quello sulla start up Reporty Homeland Security (ora nota come Carbyne), strettamente legata all’industriadella difesa israeliana.
Jeffrey Epstein arrestato
70.000 dollari in contanti
48 diamanti
1 pistola
Jeffrey Epstein abusi sessuali
Epstein e Trump contro Jane Doe

The coronavirus pandemic and the related suspension of school sports this spring allowed Luis Ayala a rare respite to consider his big picture.
The longtime Foxcroft Academy wrestling and soccer coach typically spent his offseasons coaching both sports at the middle-school and youth levels.
“But all of a sudden everything got shut down,” he said. “Now sitting here on the weekends it’s different because I’m usually all over the place, so you ponder and think about things and I came to a decision — and it wasn’t easy because I’ve been doing it for 20 years.”
That decision was to step away from coaching completely, with family reasons the overriding factor.
“His dedication and the amount of time he has spent with both the high school teams and the youth teams in town are unmatched,” Foxcroft athletic administrator Tim Smith said. “And it’s not just the time he’s put in — he’s very good at it, too.
“He’s been a major, major asset to the athletic department.”
Ayala’s departure from coaching coincides with the graduation from Foxcroft of younger son Rico, who like older his brother Tino played soccer and wrestled for four years of high school for their father.
“I was very fortunate to have both kids come up through the sports that I coached — wrestling and soccer,” said Ayala, a health and physical education teacher at Foxcroft Academy. “The last eight years being involved with them has been great, and with Rico in his last year and the way the season ended with him in the state final, it took a lot out of me and I thought, ‘I think I want to get done.’”
The 48-year-old Ayala, a Quito, Ecuador, native who grew up in Sterling, Virginia, also was heavily influenced by the health of his wife Angela, who is battling Gulf War syndrome.
The couple met in Fort Benning, Georgia, as members of an Army medical support unit and subsequently were deployed to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s.
A spider bite while overseas ultimately led to Angela Ayala’s immune system being compromised, though it wasn’t until 25 years later when she was diagnosed with Gulf War syndrome — a cluster of medically unexplained chronic symptoms that can include fatigue, headaches, joint pain, indigestion, insomnia, dizziness, respiratory disorders and memory problems.
She has been undergoing treatment through the Veterans Administration, though those appointments have been pushed back recently by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“When things get back to it we’re going to be playing catch-up with the appointments,” Ayala said. “That was the other thing for me — being there for her when the boys are off to college.”
Ayala coached Foxcroft’s wrestling program to a 368-51 record and six state championships in 18 seasons — the Ponies captured Class C state championships in 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2013 as well as the 2016 Class B state crown.
His teams also captured 12 regional titles and 11 Penobscot Valley Conference championships, and he coached 39 individual state champions, 75 regional champs, 46 conference winners and one New England title holder.
Ayala also spent 19 years coaching the sport at SeDoMoCha Middle School in Dover-Foxcroft, was coach and president of the Foxcroft Youth Wrestling Club for 22 years and directed the Foxcroft Competitive Wrestling Camp for 18 years.
He was a 2019 inductee into the Maine Amateur Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame.
Ayala coached the Foxcroft boys varsity soccer team to 104 victories over 19 years, along with 15 seasons spent directing Foxcroft Youth Soccer and three years coaching at SeDoMoCha.
He was named the 2016 Penobscot Valley Conference coach of the year for his work at Foxcroft and last fall led the team to one of its most successful soccer seasons under his guidance — the 10th-ranked Ponies reached the Class B North semifinals after upending No. 7 Waterville 3-2 in the preliminary round and No. 2 Winslow 2-1 in the quarterfinals.
In 2017, Ayala was named winner of U.S. Cellular’s Most Valuable Coach contest from among thousands of coaches nominated around the country. Ayala chose the Foxcroft Academy athletic department to receive the $50,000 grand prize.
“I’ve always competed and I love to win, but you don’t do it for the wins,” he said. “Looking back the best memories come from the people I’ve met and the relationships. It’s been fun all the way through.”
