Flood fury in Assam, Bihar; Six people died on Wednesday 29th July due to the floods which have affected over 55 lakh people in the two states and the helpless animals of wildlife sanctuaries need our Help.

Assam Floods: Over 50,000 displaced people are taking shelter at relief camps. The current wave of floods affected nearly 20 lakh people in 21 districts and washed away houses, cattle stock. The ASDMA said that at present, 1,536 villages are underwater and 92,899.95 hectares of crop area has been devastated in the state.

While 107 people died in flood-related incidents, 26 were killed in landslides. The majority portion of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are also underwater. The floods have so far claimed the lives of 142 animals of different species (including 15 one-horned rhinos), while 165 others were rescued in Kaziranga National Park.

Bihar Floods: The flood situation in Bihar has worsened after continuous heavy rain in the state for the past few days. 11 people have died due to flood-related incidents so far and over 38 lakh in the state are affected.

#AssamFloods The flood situation in Assam continues to threaten life and property with around 40 lakh people estimated to be affected in 27 of the state’s 33 districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the inundation has claimed 76 lives. PM Modi assures to extend help to Assam: CM Sarbananda Sonowal

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured to extend all support to Assam which is battling floods, oil well fire and coronavirus pandemic, said chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday following a telephonic conversation with the PM. Taking to his Twitter account the CM Sonowal said that the Prime Minister took stock of the contemporary situation regarding the damaged caused by floods in Assam and Baghjan oil well fire along with the contemporary Covid-19 pandemic situation.

Assam’s Covid-19 tally reached 22,981 with a death toll of 53 Guwahati as of Saturday after two more people succumbed to the disease and 1,117 fresh cases were registered. In addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state has been battling with floods for about a month now with the situation marginally improving on Saturday. However, three more persons were killed in two districts, taking the death toll due to the deluge in the state to 79, while around 28 lakh people in 26 of the 33 districts remained affected. Making matters worse, a gas blowout occurred at Oil India Limited’s well number 5 at its Baghjan Oilfield, in close vicinity of Dibru Saikhowa National Park and Maguri Motapung Beel, on June 9. The blowout left natural gas and condensate oil gushing out in the open that has now displaced thousands of families besides leaving an adverse impact on the biodiversity of the region. Several national leaders have asked people to contribute to Assam relief.
