sansa and tyrion's marriage is interesting from tyrion's perspective. he is canny enough to understand that she is only saying things to please and mollify him, but he also genuinely thinks that she is "so dutiful" that she would tell him what she prays for in her frequent visits to the sept (and he thinks she's excessively pious). as the reader we know she's praying for lannister annihilation and would never admit this out loud, but tyrion doesn't seem to really... get that sansa hates him and his family. even after everything, the multiple beatings, being terrorized by joffrey, the entire forced marriage, THE MURDER OF HER DEAR BELOVED DAD - he has a perception of her as a simple dutiful girl whose inner world consists of piety and supplication. that her prayers are a form of resistance and escape doesn't occur to him. he also exercises a very similar lack of understanding with shae - he thinks she's angry with him bc she lost her jewels and silks, not bc she is scared of her unstable position.

sansa antis are so funny to me because like. we have a book full of character that straight up commited war crimes. we have a guy who tried to murder a 7 y.o. twice. we have a rich guy who kills a sex worker for testifying against him. we have a girl who tries to kill her brother for being disabled. we have a guy who straight up kills and tortures people as a form of entertainment. we have a guy who strikes his wife. we have tywin fucking lannister. we have a guy who repeatedly rapes his childbride. we have a guy who sold people to slavery. we have a guy who kills his own brother and also burns people alive. we have a guy who likes murdering people. the list is endless. but noooo, the character you hate the most is this 11 y.o. girl, who is mean to her sister and isn't just smart enough to understand political schemes and manipulation tactics. a terrible, vile creature.

jaime returning to king’s landing in ASOS after the painful aerys-trauma-induced catharsis of the harrenhal baths only to return to his siblings Tyrion ‘set the blackwater ablaze’ Lannister and Cersei ‘let’s blow up the red keep’ Lannister. his life is so tragically hilarious

To teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about wearing that proud lion that was my father’s sigil and his father’s before him. But neither gods nor men shall ever compel me to let you turn Casterly Rock into your whorehouse.

i am still reading a game of thrones, and my mother (who has not read the books, but has seen the show) keeps saying ominous things about tyrion, so the day may come when i regret this post but as it stands currently i am at brunch with tyrion lannister actively enabling him. he tells me about a situation where he is clearly in the wrong and i say no and you know what your actual problem is. you know what your actual fucking issue is tyrion its that youre too real. you are too real and they want to kill you about it. because society—because SOCIETY isn’t ready and im NOT afraid to say that. like just the way i see it it’s like—well first of all you are better than everyone. yeah. yeah. nobody knows dragon facts like you is the thing and i think they fear that. by the way i know you paid last time but my family isnt doing great under feudalism so do you think you can—like just for today swear i’ll pay you back its just like you know. thank you for real. and tyrions internally monologuing like okay hes obviously trying to get something out of me. but what. and im internally monologuing like if im able to successfully activate tyrion lannister’s class guilt i can get free brunch for probably the rest of my life. which due to the circumstances of westeros will not be much longer if the seven will it.

the battle between the starks and the lannisters at the twins in got is actually a battle between the parenting of ned stark and tywin lannister.
this is the first battle to which tyrion brings his vale mountain clan soldiers and tywin places him in the left vanguard, essentially as a diversion/sacrifice. he does not share his strategy, as outlined above, with tyrion because he claims he doesn't 'trust' him. he assumes tyrion will fail and so when he succeeds, it upsets his plans.
he expects as little from robb stark, an untried boy. but what he doesn't understand is that ned has prepared his son for leadership. he hasn't hoarded his authority from him, desperate for dominance over everyone including his family. he's brought robb with him when he carried out his duties as a lord. he's educated him in battle strategy but more importantly, he has not glamorised war to him. robb is not eager to go plunging into battle and he's not battling for the sake of it. he knows the burden of his responsibility as a lord and he even knows when to delegate it: tywin's first shock was that the freys were in the stark host because robb trusted his mother to negotiate a hard bargain on his behalf. all of this contrasts tywin's neglect of tyrion and even his adulation of jaime's prowess - in the same chapter before the battle, he admonishes tyrion: "does the thought of facing the stark boy unman you, tyrion? your brother jamie would be eager to come to grips with him." ironically the kind of foolhardy behaviour he expects and criticises from robb, he encourages in jaime. this is because tywin doesn't actually want an heir to succeed his rule, he wants a shiny trophy to flatter it. only of course, tywin is not immortal. as this chapter foreshadows, his inability to parent or relinquish any power will be his undoing.
