Aslin Master of Karate Double IPA (Picked up at a Total Wine in Laurel, MD). A 4 of 4. Tons of hop complexity in the nose on this -- lots of more traditional citrus/pine as well as just tons of tropical fruit and some berry notes bursting out, too. The body feels somewhat simple behind all this, but it's just what the beer needs to carry the bright hop notes. Really excellent.

He fought in the Ukrainian military, not a paid extra military force.

He actually fought bc he wanted to help. He couldn't stand by and do nothing. How many of you could say the same.

And ppl think he betrayed them or sth -- he was captured. Used forpropaganda. Totally under duress. Threat hanging over him the entire time.

If you're not in that situation you cannot imagine what it's like. To be in a russian prisons and tortured.

His book really shows and helps you understand what it is like to be a prisoner captured by russsians -- so you can feel as much as is possible for an outsider. What Russians do to POWs. The only thing you can do is try to survive.

Aslin Double Infrared Starfish DIPA (Picked up at a Total Wine in Laurel, MD). A 3 of 4. Lots of tropical fruit and orange juice notes in the nose with a bit of stone fruit, too. The body is very well-balanced and has a ton of juicy notes to it with some sticky lacing and slight softness on the palate. The bitterness is there to help balance, but it is not aggressive.

I also leaned from Putin's Prisoner that you cannot trust anything a captured person says. When captured, you are a potential propaganda tool. And they will use torture to get what they want out of you. They will use torture to make you say that you are not being tortured. I see russians show captured Ukrainians, and some of them say how bad morale is in the Ukrainian army, etc., but they're not showing behind the scenes. It's almost certain they're at least being threatened.

and you cannot judge them, because until you're in that situation, you have no idea how you would act. You can try to be a hero, but very few people can actually resist such intimidation. Just being captured, completely in someone else's power, does something to you. You're reliant on them for everything. They can even take your life at any moment.

Just the food and the small cells with bad sanitation are torture, and then you add threats, hearing other prisoners beaten and crying and screaming, beatings, stabbings, electric shocks..... you win just by surviving.
