Hello! Salut! Saluton!
I go by Static or Métamorphe (they/them, iel/iels), I’m 22 years old, and this is the little langblr I started as an aspiring polyglot.
For right now this is just a WIP introduction post, but I am studying more right now so I found it fitting to make one that goes over the languages I’m learning!
My native language is English and I’ve been learning French as a second language casually for about 10 years (and yet I’m still at about A2!!).
My target languages are:
Canadian French
American Sign Language (ASL)
Russian
Spanish
French has been getting difficult for me so I’m kind of distracting myself with Russian and Spanish… but! I want to get more familiar with ASL specifically. Hopefully someday son I can say that I’m above A2/Level 1 in some of these languages!!
Some other languages I’m not currently focused on, but am extremely interested in learning are:
Arabic
Hindi or Punjabi
Mandarin Chinese
Irish (Gaielge)
Welsh (Cymraeg)
My big interests right now include languages (especially conlangs and slang/cants like Polari!!), science (especially life sciences!), and philosophy.
I think that’s all for now… stick around for more I guess!
(btw this is a side blog so I will be following from a different account)

My current language learning routine for ASL and Spanish
Start by reading my “word of the day” emails from SpanishDict and SignSchool that have a new vocabulary word featured along with their meanings
While walking to class or waiting I do conjugation practice on the app ConjuGato. I try to get to at least 50 conjugations a day so that they become more and more automatically produced. I got the premium version of the app since I quickly saw how much this format helped me, and I definitely think it’s been a good investment for my language learning so far!
I also have been listening to most of my music in Spanish, especially while I’m working out at the gym to increase my passive reception time, and soon I hope to move to watching more TV/Netflix and YouTube channels in Spanish as well
I try to spend at least 10 mins a day in the afternoon doing some Duolingo practice for Spanish, and watch an approximately 10 minute video on either ASL vocabulary or grammar while following along signing
And that’s pretty much it! Sometimes I’ll write a journal entry in Spanish, have a pretend conversation signing in ASL, watch more extended video lessons in either language, or do something else like that, but usually I try to keep it fairly simple and not very time-consuming.
These couple of things combined with consistency are helping me to improve quite a lot, and I’m excited for where it takes me!

lil update :)
um...hi? is this thing on...
it’s been approximately 3 years since I’ve attempted to be a langblr and uhh stuff has happened in my personal life, as I’m sure it has to everyone
for one, I’m actually in college now?? yay???
which on one hand it’s like “omg I should come back on and do more studyblr stuff, that would actually be useful to me now”
but on the other hand......i do have homework
not to mention my semester’s almost over PLAJSDFK
i might start up again and post more proficiently, someday
but for now I think I’ll focus on doing this when i feel like it, when it won’t be too stressful or overwhelming and I can really have fun posting my little notes and tips and shenanigans >:)
tl;dr--i’m kinda back! (might ghost for a few days but yknow)

Are there any people on here who are learning/fluent in asl that have tips/recommendations? I want to pick that back up again when I get to at least c1 level. I feel like since French is only my second language that I started studying seriously it would be a bad idea to do two at one time. I need to master the skill of learning the language.

                                     Langblog Introduction
I figured it’s about time I make one of these seeing as I’m pretending to know what I’m doing...
       - My name is Eevie        - I’ve been studying Spanish for 10 years, French for 9, ASL (off and on) for about 5        - I added Gàidhlig to that list because I come from predominantly Scottish heritage and wanted to “connect to my background” or whatever        - I’m kind of obsessed with studying complicated languages (by which I mean, those that are vastly different from my own) because I apparently hate myself???        - Added Swedish because I want to one day live in Sweden.        - I’m 20+ y/o, she/her, freelance writer/artist        - I live in the US        - I have blue hair (fun fact)        - I play a couple instruments or whatever        - Mi amor is Filipina, so I know a very limited amount of Filipino slang and Tagalog that baffles my American friends who don’t even know where the Philippines is.        - and I’m always more than happy to answer questions, give advice (whether or not I’m qualified), or help you find someone who actually knows the answer to your question, so don’t hesitate to message me!

Recently moved into a house with some other neurodivergent/likely autistic folks who also sign, so I thought I'd share the signs I've been looking up especially for that.
for instance, sometimes they're plugged in and I wanna let them know something in the house is going off
Tumblr media Tumblr media
or something is specifically beeping (i.e. microwave)
Tumblr media
sometimes the tv might be up a bit too loud
Tumblr media
or a particular noise is unpleasant
Tumblr media
or if one of us just wants to let the others know that we're having quiet/non-verbal time

Hi I hope I'm not a bother!! I jist saw your blog and I was SO excited. I've been trying to learn ASL since this summer and I was wondering, do you happen to know of a reliable source to learn ASL grammar?? I would really appreciate the guidance 🙏
Hi, you're no bother at all! As I said in my "ask me anything" post, I'm more than happy to help other learners however I can. <3
ASL is tricky in that you can find a signing dictionary just about anywhere, but there don't seem to be a whole lot of resources for grammar outside of immersion. However, I recently came across a youtube channel called 'Learn How to Sign' that has some great videos on particulars like sentence structure, speaking in the affirmative versus the negative, etc that taught me some stuff I'd been wondering about for years.
Other than that, I've seen a lot of DHOH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) people on tiktok teaching ASL and addressing particular, direct questions from their audience. I'd link them, but unfortunately I didn't do a very good job at saving them.
If anyone else has any resources they'd like to add, please feel free to! Or if anything I said was incorrect, please let me know and I'll fix it. Hope this helped! :)

[please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read somewhere that the sign for "vomit" can also a reactionary sign to mean "gross" or "yuck!"]
