i've never written a royalty au, i don't think. so that would be fun to try out!

and honestly i've always wanted to do write a jjba au or toh au and apply that to series i like! but i'm thinking of maybe saving those for au events in the future since i know not everyone is as big a geek about those kinds of aus as i am

9 ⧽. tell us about a wip/idea that you’re excited about!

i'm working on two fics right now (both of which are character x character) that are being written in english and japanese that i'm going to post on ao3 and pixiv, one of which is a lovely usonami bday present for a friend. a pre-ts sick fic that takes place after the events of little garden but before the crew reaches drum island

it's set in usopp's pov and he is comforting nami the entire time during his appointed time of watching over nami and making sure she is provided for. it also adds a fair bit of introspection of usopp's character because of course i can't just let this be a cute and fluffy sick fic between usopp and nami

17 ⧽. are there any songs you want to write a songfic for?

i think if i was asked this in my younger years, this would be a fervent yes but today's nyla has nothing jfdnskjfn. i mostly use songs to help me figure out the mood i'm trying to establish in a scene. but i do remember in 2021/2021 i did do an event on an old blog where people could send me a song lyric and i'd write a drabble based on it at the suggestion of a friend!

#31 / 32 on the writer's ask game (it seems like they go together)

     31. Hardest character to write.

Writing from Death’s POV in  A Question of Transience was really tough! He’s such an interesting character, and I wanted to do him justice. Strangely, even though Dean is one of the easiest characters for me to write, he also goes on this list because I can’t even pretend to have the ease with pop culture that he does, so any attempts to write that aspect of his personality take more effort than usual. Writing Soulless!Sam in Twice Removed was hard, in part because I really wanted to try to remain true to what we see in canon while also developing it a little. I think the awareness that the way I see Soulless!Sam is very different from how much of the fandom writes him was also intimidating. At the same time, it was satisfying, because if I see another fic where the portrayal of him boils down to “Soulless!Sam is a brutal and evil automaton bent on subjugating poor helpless Dean to his will,” I will rip out all my hair and donate it to Locks of Love. 

There was also an (unfortunately central) character in one of my original novels that I was having a lot of trouble with. I was kind of stuck in the middle of the story and having trouble writing him, but I participated in this writing challenge that was like a gauntlet for original characters, and over a course of like 20 days, we had to do everything from kill the character to give said character everything he wanted or take it away, and it really helped me clarify what the character’s goals were.

     32. Easiest character to write.

Sam, probably, because his way of thinking about a lot of things is really similar to my own. I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time in his head, so when I try to write him, I usually feel pretty comfortable. He’s a complex character, though, so I always have to keep on my toes.

I'm happy to know that, and I know for a fact that some of my mutuals also are fans and we rebblog things about Taylor from one another too - and even the ones that aren't, don't really mind, I talked to some of my mutuals about it a while back and they told me that.

The issue isn't even just some random, even tho, it looks like that.

That anon always comes back, I don't know who that person is, but they somehow always find themselves back at my blog when I am rebbloging things about her and they feel the need to say shit.

Personally I don't like being harassed like this and this feels like harassement if it's the same person and they feel comfortable by doing so just because I leave anon on - which isn't even for them to use as a weapon, is to shy people or people that simply wanna ask things without feeling the pressure of others knowing what they're asking and it's for those people I keep my askbox open (even if nowdays it's not really much used).

It's not even about Taylor anymore, cuz personally, I don't even feel like trying to justify why I like her or to make anymore like her - they can hate her, I don't care. I really don't. It's your life, you do you.

It's the thought I cannot express my preferences in my own blog because some random doesn't like it. I personally just want that person to either show themselves just so I can block them or SIMPLY leave me the hell alone and block me.

Because I don't feel like playing this little stupid game with them anymore. I'm full of it.

That's why I'm acting like a crazy person. Because I want this person to leave me be - I really don't think I am asking for too much.

But thank you for your kind words, anyway, sorry if I sound too emotional but like... this isn't the first time they do this and I am really sick of it.

37. Talk about your current wips.

* the fic i often refer to as “dead bruce.” it’s about clark (not) dealing with bruce’s “death” in canon, especially as it comes at a time when he also loses his father and discovers the Kryptonian city of Kandor survived the planet’s destruction (but it’s kind of a mess). it’s really an exploration of clark’s grief and state of mind at this dark point in his life, as well as his relationship with various members of the batfam (dick, tim, alfie).

* a bruce/clark fic for the prompt “things you said when we were the happiest we ever were.” explores bruce’s perspective and struggle to allow himself happiness.

* an indulgent clark/hal fic just for fun. involves hal showing up at the daily planet.

#50 for the writer's ask thingie!

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.

Disclaimer: I am boring.

This isn’t for fandom (though I’ve written a bunch of weird stuff for other fandoms, but shh, my previous identities are a secret), but there was this one thing I wrote as my final paper for a grammar class. It was supposed to be a paper about rhetorical grammar, but instead I asked if I could write a meta short story that used grammar/writing as an active force in the story. So it ended up being this weird thing about a universe in which a young woman, a created being in a falling-apart and badly maintained world, took the Story from its unstable creator and made it her own. It was a really simple, boring premise because I had a word limit to abide by, but it was super fun to play around with rhetorical grammar and make words a powerful agent in the story.

There are a handful of potentially strange ones I’m currently sitting on, though, that haven’t made it much past “what the hell?” stage and into a coherent outline, though. There’s this one I’m really excited about, though, that has a bit to do with (how do I describe it??) recycled souls and immortality and what-have-you, but it hasn’t really gotten far yet. And then there’s this other one (pretty much fully written at 110k words) based in a world where water is scarce. It focuses around a travelling circus and contains (pseudo-)cannibalism. Um.

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

hmm. a really long time ago, @thepunisher prompted me for a fic where bruce gets injured in a fight after doing something stupid/stubborn, and he and an angry clark get trapped together. this, of course, gives them a lot of time to work things out and actually talk about their feelings. i’d really like to try my hand at this, both because it’s a fun trope and I adore Sere... so let’s hope inspiration will strike sometime this century. 

also, i’d love to do something with the soulmate trope... but with a twist: the otp pairing _aren’t_ soulmates, but they choose each other anyway.3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

a/b/o dynamics and bdsm aren’t for me;

i dislike the “character a is mentally unwell but everything gets magically resolved thanks to entering a relationship with character b”;

i also dislike the “character a gets seriously injured/ nearly dies and that’s what leads to character b realizing they’re in love with character a” trope. mostly because i feel it discounts other types of relationships? close friends and family would react just as strongly as a romantic partners to a loved one being injured/at risk of death.
