It’s that time of the year again, travelers of the night, that we bring you another month of prompts for Moon KnightCember! 🌙✨ This list contains a variety of words we had saved when making last year’s list, as well as a few new ones to add to the winter themes! This time, it’s a smaller, more spaced out list that gives you some time between each prompt :)

Just like last year, this list is for all forms of Moon Knight, as well as all kinds of fan work, from writing to illustration to craft and more! When participating, use the tag #MKCember2024 and tag me!

MY NOTES: my life motto is shoot every character you love with the transgender beam. this work is so special to me, especially the entire idea of what being a hero, in any capacity, can mean to someone, and was just a lovely and heartwarming read. (also!!! trans duke!!!!)

Jason, the plaque read. Just that. Just…. Jason. There were other cases in the Cave, other costumes on display, but somehow, this one felt different. Stephanie wasn’t stupid; she knew Robin’s colors well as any Gotham kid did. It was Dick’s old costume. (Stephanie knew she wasn’t even supposed to know that name; Batman had had a concussion when he’d called Nightwing by it, and they’d both been cagey with her for months afterwards.) It was the costume he’d worn before he’d grown up and become Nightwing. So why this case, with this costume, but a different name?

MY NOTES: oh this fic!!! the fic of all time!! the conversations had in this fic really dig right into your heart and hit where it hurts, but i just loved every bit of it. stephanie is the balance to a lot of the grief that clouds around bruce, dick and babs and it was just handled marvelously in this. must read!

Arthur was sat at the coffee table, writing and rewriting a first draft of the note he planned to leave behind after tomorrow’s robbery. “You’re gonna get caught again.” For once, Arthur didn’t tell her off for bugging him. He flipped his pencil around to erase a word, his eraser squeaking on the paper. “Keeps me sane.” Steph considered that, frowning. “Can’t you be sane and not get caught?” “Not how it works, babygirl. Not for people like me.” He rubbed her head. “Go get me another beer, will ya?”

MY NOTES: i think everyone should read this introspection fic simply because the final line is 'Fathers. They never stop cutting.' and it fits just so perfectly into the premise of this work.

Tiptapricot again! I’m not the best for giving recs and info on the comics, but can give some trigger warnings on the show and two of the runs I’ve read! This will all b below cut as it’s as in depth as I can do off the top of my head.

This is a long post, but I’ve tried to make it as informative as possible. It lists some heavy stuff! MK fans are welcome to let me know if there’s things they think I should add, and though I say in the post, anyone is welcome to shoot me an ask about specific triggers! There also may be some typos haha so excuse those.

Without further ado, let’s get into it :-)

First up!

The Lemire Run, 2016

This may not be the best run to jump onto as it has a pre-established cast and is highly referential to past MK work, but it was also the first one I read and I still really enjoyed it! As long as you have a general knowledge of the characters from like a quick wiki read, you should be good.

Warnings for: Medical unreality, unreality, psych ward setting, gaslighting, abusive nurses/orderlies and doctors, shock therapy, drugging, death of friends, warped reality, manipulative Khonshu (the god they work for), further unreality/blending of realities between different headmates, mis-naming, car crashes/ship crashes, death of friends again, arrest/police interrogation, institutionalization as a child though not shown graphically, off-page death of father, internalized ableism/belief that to be normal you must not be a system, invalidation of headmates by another headmate, apparent though not actual alter death (they come back triumphantly, they are all ok), talk of brain and mental space/being “broken” as a form of manipulation.

This is the one I sent a propaganda post in about also! It was one of the first really major positive MK explorations (not the first, the 80s run and a handful of others actually have some real good stuff) and while it still has some funky parts, is a really gorgeous and awesome look at them, and again, has one of my favorite characters!

Second!

The MacKay run, 2021

This one’s the currently ongoing comic run! And while there’s less warnings it should be mentioned that since it’s ongoing, my list may become out of date somewhat soon, esp since issue 25 is apparently going to be 70 pages. But it’s a good time to hop on and join!

Warnings include: general monsters and fighting of them, self hate, internalized ableism and force-fronting by Marc/him being frontstuck for a lot of it, regular therapy sessions with Marc and his therapist that, although not manipulative or toxic or abusive like in other runs, are coerced by the avengers due to a previous run where the system basically took stuff over and took down the avengers for Khonshu (this run is referenced a lot), temporary death of main, discussion of gods, faith, and general theology, vomit in the issue 17 fight, racism/cultural appropriation by the character Jack Russel in the annual, forced switch by an outside partner in the annual.

There’s also a general blanket thing that, while MacKay is doing good at a lot, and issues 14/15 specifically have some really good system conversations facilitated by him working with a system for them, he is still not including Steven and Jake as much as he should, and stuff can feel unbalanced/that he’s forgetting about their systemhood sometimes. It’s overall a very solid run so far, but that’s good to be aware of!

And lastly but not leastly!

Moon Knight, 2022 show

The show is 6 episodes long and on Disney+ or u can pirate it (which. Is what I do haha) and these are what I can think of for warnings.

Best to skim beforehand and then peek at each chunk for each ep as you go. Id be able to give times if I was live watching with someone but I hope these cover stuff generally ok, and you can also look up specific stuff if you need, or send me an ask if you watch about a specific moment and I can find the time stamp! My inbox is always open :-)

Disclaimer that the show also has a lot of levity and comedy and calmer moments within everything I’m going to list. These are just the triggers, and since it is a heavy show it will seem dense, but it’s not just hell all the way through.

Ep 1, The Goldfish Problem—At the very beginning there is a scene where glass is put in shoes and stepped on, there is no blood or pain reaction or visuals of the skin, but that is a constant presence in the background for the whole show as the main antagonist is a cult leader who uses it for self flagellation. Lot of sudden and discombobulating switches accompanied by minor flashing, confusion and paranoia as it involves the beginning of system discovery by a headmate who has no idea what’s going on, a generally eerie vibe involving a large bird headed skeleton creature (Khonshu) popping up, voices from indeterminant origin/people seen in mirrors, scene in the mountains involves seeing the cult, and ideas of good and bad and predestined morality, car chase involving car crashes, guns and blood but not really gore or any especially violent ways of taking out bad guys, missing an important event due to amnesia and lost time, apparent stalking by cult and unreliable coworkers, mild panic attack.

Episode 2, Summon The Suit—More of eerie vibe from first ep and more of big bird man and some flashing, uncomfortable firing from job for perceived mental health reasons, headmates arguing, headmate freaking out and jumping to internalized ableism, person who knows one headmate but not ab the system being confused and frustrated/believing the one fronting is putting on an act, police arrest/kidnapping, more of the cult, discussion of eugenics ideology from cult, panic attacks, one use of the word “Psycho” during a joke, headmates arguing worse and lashing out at each other, manipulation by Khonshu, brief use of alcohol in an obviously unhappy state as coping.

Episode 3, The Friendly Type—Sudden and abrupt switches, coming to mid fight/after an adversary has been killed, confusion, non-graphic suicide as form of escape from protags (falling off cliff, body not shown in detail or close up at all), very intense trial scene involving possession by a god, and weaponized ableism and personality language against mains from antag, both demonizing and infantilizing them, somewhat of a breakdown/lashing out from main because of it, another fight at rich guys place involving guns and knives, as well as choking, and impaling of mains, but impalement has no blood or gore shown, the poles r kinda just through them and they’re alright, some more possible flashing triggers at end with sky scene though more mild.

Episode 4, The Tomb—Headmates arguing/tension, choice to pursue relationship action without direct discussion about it, sounds of dissection of human by a monster (dissection is blurred in background and not shown in detail), scary undead creatures coming out of the dark and fighting with a main, emotional manipulation by cult leader, argument with a partner causing a forced switch, intense guilt and mention of believing one should’ve died, main character death, and at very end and also big one for next ep: unreality, medical unreality, psych ward setting, drugging and restraint of patient, gaslighting, feeling like an “it was all a dream” twist (which is proven to be false, the psych ward here is not real and is a construct of the afterlife, but it is a big scare and can be triggering).

Episode 5, Asylum (biggest ones here and very intense episode)—More of same medical unreality and gaslighting by a doctor, on screen drugging of patient/mains with a syringe, forced trauma memory exploration involving static dead bodies, passive suicidal ideation, off screen drowning, off screen sibling/child death, intense verbal abuse from mother, passive father, alcoholic abusive parent, guilty flashback to older Marc the night Khonshu contacted him which involves an attempted suicide (gun put against chin) and manipulation, headmate hitting their head rapidly during a breakdown, physical abuse from parent with belt (action not shown on screen but build up is and there is briefly audio of impacts), headmates arguing, internalized ableism, discovery of being an introject and negative thoughts about “realness” and self as a result, emotionally abusive doctor, parental/abuser death, alcoholism by main, breakdown at funeral, hitting of kippah on ground during breakdown, intense switch in time of distress, apparent alter death (not permanent but is not resolved in this episode).

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ME TO WATCH EPISODES 5 AND 6 IN THE SAME SITTING OR CLOSE TOGETHER. 5 is really fucking intense, and even while being very well done, it can really fuck up your brain and mental space. Episode 6 is a huge balm onto that and makes me cry every time because of it.

Episode 6, Gods and Monsters—Cult carrying out goals, intense grief from living main, dead bodies talking, brief possession by a god, guilt tripping and trauma leveraging by antag onto mains, sudden switch, brief return of psych ward setting (though in a context of triumphing over it/proving it to be a construct), after credits scene involves abduction of antag from a care facility, and murder.

Also general note that the show is really complicated and nuanced in its rep. It has a lot that’s really good but they also made some mistakes. The term DID/Dissociative Identity Disorder is not said on screen, for example, largely because the system themselves don’t know what’s going on/are dealing with a lot of internalized ableism, however it was still a choice by the writers. Some cast and crew members have also said not great things in interviews, but on the flip side, a lot of them have shown they really care.

Oscar Isaac specifically did a whole lot of research for his roles, and has been very respectful and awesome in interviews and in his pushing for the characters to be given the best they can. There’s a lot of discussion to have around all of it, and a lot they can improve in a season 2 if/when we get it, but it’s still a really complex and empathetic exploration of the system in general.

But also, it may not be for everyone!

I’m a singlet, and I’ve talked and discussed stuff a lot with the groups I’m in including systems in fandom, and there’s a lot in it people connect to, but it also may not be the type of show others want to watch and that’s ok. Rep is so nuanced and complicated especially with something so stigmatized, every step forward doing its best but not always nailing it, that everyone will have their varying relationships to it, and what works for some may not be good for others.

But yeah! I love moon knight a lot, and all of the things recommended here while none are perfect each do really amazing things with their stories, art, and explorations. I hope this can help some people interested in checking them out do so in an informed and safe way. My inbox is open if anyone has questions, and I can also point to some other really cool people in the community for specific discussions, recommendations, and more!

This is a little entry for their create this in your style challenge, using some of their OCs!!! I fucking love this little dudes, so I was happy to take the chance to write a little something for em. I hope you like it, mikey, plz tell me what I got right or wrong lol. I hope this all isn't terribly out of character

Prompt: Small things make up love languages. Intent with care, wanting with direction, and sometimes even just a reminder that one party values the other. It’s not a science, really. Everyone is different.

Story under the cut-

The flowers brush up against Romero’s knees, whisper-thin petals tickling down his palm. They reach back to his outstretched hand with rough leaves that try and fail to snare onto the fabric of his gloves as he gently pushes them aside. Instead, Romero grabs the weeds, the weeds that have thrown themselves into the edges of his garden, that grab with sharp teeth coating their stalks onto the fabric of his gloves, and he pulls them from the ground. Their roots rain down soil, arcing through the air as Romero tosses them aside.

The glow of his pumpkin head diffuses gently on the rows of flowers, leaking out into the cold darkness of the night. It lights the way for Romero as he works, yanking more weeds from the ground, brushing back the soil where he disturbs it. Bugs, startled by the uprooting of the plants, skitter across his gloves, searching for a new refuge, and he leaves them to go about their business.

The door creaks open behind him, and Romero sits up, stretching out his tense shoulders and leaning his head back, tilting it up towards the stars. Powder blue clouds drift across the sky, lazy as everything else is in the night, covering the stars so they wink in and out of existence.

Antez melts onto him, sprawling hymnself over Romero’s lap, head falling languidly over his shoulder. It tips back, following his gaze to the stars.

“Were you waiting for me?”

“___ _____ _ __,” Romero says, in words that aren’t words, that only Antez can really understand.

Antez laughs, he laughs the sound of windchimes falling but never hitting the ground, the sound of glass un-shattering, the sound of flowers brushing up against palms, of a thousand other things Romero couldn’t name. “Well, I do appreciate it,” he murmurs, wrapping the stalk of a flower around hiss finger and pulling it from the ground. Romero watches as he gathers more, and begins braiding them, twining their stalks together with one hand.

“__ __ __ ____ __ ______.”

“Well…” Antez sighs, and he feels a little heavier, all of the sudden. “I had hoped to be but I… well I suppose I got carried away this time.” There is light leaking out from hiss face, a blue glow winding cracks all around hiss head. “I think I waited a bit too long.”

Romero knew that, of course. He knew from the tension held in Antez’s shoulders, from the tired eyes, from the dizzying spin of hiss light and halos when it was just the two of them. He knew, but he doesn’t say as much.

“_ __ _____ ___?” Romero asks, tilting his head to one side.

“Oh,” Antez says in almost a sigh. The cracks of light on hiss face widen, and he lets hymnself fall apart a little, facial features drifting away from each other. They hover only vaguely tethered, like they’re held together by bits of invisible string. “Very.”

“___.” Romero runs a hand down his husband’s hair, watching as Antez drifts apart from hymnself a little more, the puzzle pieces of hiss face just beginning to shift and turn. “__ ___ _ ___.”

Antez hums hiss agreement, and the sound trails up Romero's back like chills. “Come here,” Antez murmurs, and Romero tilts his head towards hymn questioningly. Antez gathers hiss flowers, stems braided together to make tiny clusters, and slots the miniature bouquets into Romero’s eye holes. He hums to hymnself as he works, rearranging the flowers, shifting Romero’s worldview with the careful movement of hiss long, slender fingers.

Romero sits still for hymn, content to watch the petals dancing in his vision, catching glimpses of Antez as hiss facial features continue to drift apart from each other, those tenuous strings being cut as they pull away to show the gleaming light inside. Its brilliant blue falls over Romero’s own gentle orange, shining over both of their hands, illuminating the eyes and halos and mouths that orbit in slow, winding trails around Antez’s head.

Antez lets hiss hands fall, one coming to rest on Romero’s thigh. Hiss mouths, spinning around hiss face, are all smiling warmly. “You look lovely.”

Romero nods his thanks, careful not to let the flowers fall. He reaches up, brushing his fingers against their petals. They sweep against the inside of his head.

Romero grabs a flower from the dirt, breaking it just before the roots. With one thumb, he pops its head off, lets the stem fall back to the ground. He offers it to Antez, who seems to understand, who always understands.

When the flower is tipped into the whirling space of Antez’s mind, there is a moment of careful suspension. The eyes and mouths and ears churning slowly through the air tilt towards it slightly, observing as it drifts closer to the light in the center, sinking down until its broken tip touches something, some physical presence in all that blue.

And it explodes.

Petals fly outwards, more than Romero thinks there should be, speckled with seeds that have begun to glow like the starry freckles that dot Antez’s face. The petals get caught up in the halos, the eyes, winding their own orbits through the madness. They are sprays of color, arcs of nature.

“_______.”

“Yes,” Antez agrees softly. Some of hiss eyes flutter close, and hiss head tilts back as he leans against Romero. Melts. Together, they look down at the flowers, up at the stars. “Beautiful.”

I’ve only published 5 works so I’m also going to be including 5 of my most recent wips :3

1. Sunshine filters in through a stained glass window, casting the shop in an orange cozy glow that has Stede pausing before the door to bask in its warmth. (I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in gold (oh my beautiful one))

2. Tonight is finally the night that Guillermo has been waiting for all month; the night where he gets to dress in his sultriest outfit and cover himself in fake blood (important to note that it is in fact fake) and blur the lines between scary and sexy- for what is a vampire if not somebody who makes the blood drain from your face and rush down to your dick? (Baby you’re a haunted house)

3. Candles are strewn about the cheap motel room, some placed on the counter, a few on the nightstand, and most sitting precariously on the carpet. (Borrowed dreams, hollowed reveries)

4. Desire engulfs Guillermo, warming him from head to toe like a glass of red wine and curling in his lower stomach, consuming almost, as he holds Nandor on either side of his collar and walks him back to the door of his own crypt, lips never breaking contact with each other. (I’m not a snack (I’m the whole damn meal))

5. Dark gray cushions stare back at Daniel as he desperately tries to focus on something other than the two vampires sitting across from him, one in the midst of recounting his life story- the microphone on Daniel’s computer with the sensitivity turned all the way up is how he justifies not raptly listening- the other sitting uncomfortably close to him, knees and hips touching as if he’d never heard of personal space, his pointed nails typing away incessantly on a fucking iPad. (Push it away but it all comes back again)

6. Lately, Daniel’s taken to frequenting the nearby cafe as the sun begins to set- the thought being that he won’t be attacked by vampires in a public space.

7. Surprised- and more than a little impressed- at being thrown into the wall by Louis, it takes Lestat a moment to gather himself enough to rush in front of the door, panic coursing through him at the realization that Louis fully intended on stepping out into the day.

8. Ignoring the scene unfolding in front of him, and how it makes something that’s definitely not jealousy bloom in his cheeks, Daniel pulls out his phone to ask google the question that’s been burning in the back of his mind since Rashid pulled out the chair next to Louis for the second night in a row.

9. At first, Lestat suggesting that they bring home a stray cat was only a joke.

10. Vampirism was supposed to fix everything for Guillermo.

Last song listened to: Šturm Zamka Pulien by Stary Olsa. This is one of their original medieval style works played with maximal recreations of historic instruments local to them in Belarus. Normally, Stary Olsa’s music is taken directly from historical compositions and local folk tunes, so this is a neat divergence from that. As explained in the screenshot from the bands website, this song is based on a historic event

Currently watching: Diablero! Mexican Netflix show about demons and demon-hunters. It’s one of the first shows that caught our eye when we were looking for something that was created in Spanish. It’s the language we’re currently learning so we’re trying to consume more media in it. Might end up reading the books the show was based on at some point too!

Currently reading: Packing for Mars by Mary Roach. Fascinating book asking and answering all the weird questions regarding space science and logistics. She does everything from clear a space chimp of public masturbatory crimes to confirm whether or not flatulence can propel you in space. Before this, I read her book Stiff, all about cadavers, from the scientific study of them to historical gravedigging to “medical” cannibalism to the death industry. Mary Roach is just a powerhouse of an author on weird science in general and I’ll probably end up reading all of her books at some point lol

Current obsession: I feel like we’re a little in between obsessions at the moment and simultaneously consumed by many various smaller obsessions. I suppose medieval history and fashion in general is one of the bigger ones. Recently purchased The First Book of Fashion and absolutely cannot wait for it to come in so I can admire all the illustrations of fashion by medieval illuminists. It’s supposed to come with a sewing pattern too so I might try my hand at actually making that piece! I want to eventually sew my own historically accurate clothing :)

Wes Tiernan is a bartender at The Auld Triangle, an Irish pub in Greenwich Village. We meet him in February, 1961, shortly after the events of Inside Llewyn Davis, when Llewyn drunkenly wanders into his bar and gets himself kicked out. Later, he returns to the Triangle and meets Wes for the first time. They get to know each other as Llewyn begins to come back more and more (to spend time with Wes, of course).

Wes is a trans man, and is closeted. He's charismatic -- he knows the scripts and the right words to say to his patrons like the back of his hand. He loves hooking up with people, and people love hooking up with him. During these hook-ups, he's incredibly focused on his partner, and his partner alone, not letting them touch him -- in part to hide his being trans.

Wes is also biracial; Irish and African American, but white-passing. He grew up in the rural South with folk, blues, and gospel music as an essential part of his life, and lost touch with it after leaving his hometown to move to NYC. Llewyn helps him get back in touch with music in a way he hasn't been in years.

I've written quite a bit for them, but it's out of order and a little all over the place. I'm trying to write some of the early stuff chronologically now, and if anyone is interested, I might get around to posting some of it on ao3.

Wes is the most fleshed-out and real-feeling OC I've ever written, and writing him and Llewyn is a genuine delight. I've been having the time of my life creating him and their story the past couple months, and I am always down to talk about them, so don't be afraid to send asks! When it comes to writing, I thrive on people enabling me lol.

(Note: Some of the stuff I've written for them is pretty spicy, which is new for me! Eventually they have a pretty active sex life, but it's a lot later in their relationship, so if I end up sharing more, that won't show up for a while. Either way, I'd keep it on ao3 and/or tag it on tumblr appropriately, just so you know!)

Hey, I know I just tagged all of you in another Bill and Ted fanfic, but here’s another, based on my ship of Rufus, and Emmet ‘doc’ Brown from back to the future, and also some fandom recognition for the three leaders of the future, who don’t have much character, so their basically my ocs at this po, but they need some attention imo

Rufus woke up to his usual morning alarm at 6:30am, and he heard his husband start moving to get up. “Sorry honey, did my alarm wake you?”

He heard a very tired Emmet L. “Doc” Brown reply back an “Mm hm” as a “yes”. “Well, the most excellent thing about having an alarm, is the days when you can ignore it. We can sleep in for a while if you want?”

He heard another, more enthusiastic “Mm hmm!” from his partner, and chuckled, shutting off the alarm and getting back underneath the covers on the bed.

Rufus had fallen in love with Emmet Brown two years ago now, during a time-travelling mishap. They had kept in touch, and despite the two of them living in different points in time, they thought dating was worth a shot.

Emmet still technically lived in the year 1985, but he visited Rufus and stayed nights at his house whenever he could.

They had date nights every Friday, and made each other dinner at least once every week, and delivered it to the other’s house.

Doc heard Rufus’ cell phone buzz on the bedside table. He glanced at the digital alarm clock sitting next to his husband’s side of the bed. 9:36AM. Emmet grunted, sitting up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.

“Rufus, dear. Time to get up.” Rufus immediately sat up. “Good morning my most excellent partner.” He said sleepily. Emmet chuckled at his tired husband, and his way of speaking. “Why’d your cell phone buzz?” Emmet asked.

Rufus held back a small laugh at Emmet still calling it a “cell phone”. Even though Rufus had shown his husband many futuristic inventions and concepts, he was still a slightly old-fashioned soul.

His train of thought ended abruptly when he realized the question he had been asked had so far been unanswered. “It was probably a text, let me look.” Rufus mumbled as he stretched, his back making multiple cracking sounds, and then reached for his phone.

Rufus sighed and read the notification on his phone. “One new message from Alex Lavender” Ah. It was Alex. Alex, Caleb, and Jackie were some of Rufus’ best friends, other than Emmet of course.

They also just so happened to be the Three Leaders of the Future, aka the most important people of Rufus’ era. No big deal or anything. They were all dorks anyways. Sure, they seemed all serious, intimidating, and stoic while at work, but at home?

They were the most friendly, most lovely, and most chaotic (in a good way, of course!) people Rufus’ knew.

Generally, yeah. Something about entering my house makes me instantly hate the feeling of wearing pants and bras. I almost always change instantly back into my pajamas whenever I get home. My house pants and tee shirts are essential.

jasmine: do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?

I have... no idea. Uh... I remember really liking Fahrenheit 451 when I was forced to read it in high school, but I would not revisit it unless I was in a situation wherein it was required (like a high school class, for example, lmao.) I also really like the first F//ntastic B//asts movie but I'm a trans person and I don't want anything to do with R//wling's bullshit anymore.

taro: if someone called you right now to catch up, what’re the things you’d tell them about?

I think I would mention my new full-time job. Depending on who exactly was calling and how long it's been, I'd tell them my now name and pronouns. If they were someone I was really close to in the past, I'd probably give them a rundown on the various hyperfixations I've cycled through since we last spoke. Otherwise, I don't really think there's anything I'd mention because everything else coming to mind is either irrelevant by now or something that should probably be kept between me and my therapist or my family.
