Okay, I'm slowly getting obsessed with Eddie and Josh. I feel like they're the ultimate drama/gossip queers; they work at dispatch, Eddie loves telenovelas and Josh watches The Bachelor. If something is happening at the dispatch center, Josh and Eddie know first like a hound after a fox. I'm imagining them standing at the doorway to the break room, matching judgy faces and stances, each holding a coffee and exchanging the latest News.
How do you think their dynamic goes at work? If they're Those Gay Best Friends at work, do u think that changes once they get together? Do people notice, or is it like six months later and the rest of dispatch learns they're together because Eddie's leaving work and gives Josh a lil kiss goodbye? I'd love to hear your thoughts, I'm falling in love with this ship 💞
Okay first things first: WELCOME TO RIAZ. I've seen Jeddie used as their ship name before, but I like Riaz better so I call them Riaz. They've slowly taken over my every waking thought. I'm writing an entire AU for them, but it's taking me longer than I thought. Also, I hope this answers your ask? I kind of started rambling and lost my train of thought three different times in the process of typing this out.
Second thing second: I hc Eddie finds out he's gay at the start of s5, so he's trying to adjust to the whole I-Have-A-Hot-Boyfriend-Who-Kisses-Me-In-Public-Thing on top of discovering his sexuality. He still isn't out yet but he doesn't want to shove Josh back in the closet. Josh wants to see if there's something worth fighting for between them so they compromise. Eddie gives himself one month to come out to people, and Josh decides to stay.
Throughout that first month, there are stolen kisses in secluded hallways and corners at the call center. Make out sessions in janitorial closets that Josh happens to have keys for.
Eddie finds himself upstairs when Josh is in full Floor Manager mode, watching his boyfriend work with the most adoration in his eyes. Hot Floor Manager Boyfriend really gets Eddie going tbh. (Sir you are not subtle Sue Blevins and Linda have eyes). Something something he has a thing about not needing to be the 'man' of their relationship something something. Eddie is mesmerized by how smoothly Josh takes over rough calls or takes control of the floor when he needs to. How he effortlessly commands the mutual respect of his coworkers and does his job with seamless perfection every time. He falls more for him every day and every day it becomes harder to force himself to not pull his very handsome dispatcher boyfriend close for a big, messy, kiss in the middle of the floor chaos. (Really Eddie, even Maddie isn't as blind as you think she be fr you eyefuck your boyfriend whenever he does Hot Dispatcher Stuff).
Josh is lighter and happier. He's taking better care of himself. He feels more centered when Eddie's in the room. (Maddie's not blind bestie she sees you giggling and kicking your feet). When he can see Eddie's okay Josh breathes easier. Josh starts seeking Eddie out first (he explains some of his trauma from the mugging and Eddie is content to wait until Josh feels comfortable with the physical affection stuff). Eddie waits at first for Josh to reach for him, then he starts letting his fingers brush the back of Josh's neck. Josh's fingers brush along Eddie's bicep. Soft and tender touches meant just for them. Once they start they can't keep their hands off each other for long.
It gets more obvious as the month goes on. There's more kissing that happens in places where people could easily find them (May walks around a corner, sees them kissing, and immediately turns on her heel to go back in the direction she came), Eddie becomes more confident in himself, in his first relationship with a man. Josh rests his hand on Eddie's thigh under the break room table, a reassuring weight for him to ground himself.
Eddie seeks Josh out just as much, if not more. He craves the physical affection, he loves that Josh holds him like he's something worth cherishing. He needs to feel that they're both okay. That it's real. That Josh isn't going anywhere. That he wasn't scared off by how damaged Eddie was. That it's okay for Eddie to have things he needs and for it to not be selfish. It's okay for him to want things for himself. He does want this; he wants Josh Russo.
