“People are inherently terrible” no!!! Have you ever seen a child wait for their friend while they tie their shoelaces? Have you ever known someone who would bring hurt squirrels and rabbits and mice to the nearest vet just so it doesn’t suffer? Have you seen someone grieve? Have you ever read something that hit your heart like a freight train? Have you looked at the stars and felt an unexplainable joy? Have you ever baked bread? Have you shared a meal with a friend? Have you not seen it? All the love? All the good? I know it’s hard to see sometimes, I know there’s pain everywhere. But look, there’s a child helping another up after a hard fall. Look, there’s someone giving their umbrella to a stranger. Look, there’s someone admiring the spring flowers. Look, there’s good, there’s good, there’s good. Look!!!!

Do you happen to know if there's a place I could get free vet tech ebooks? I don't have the money for college just yet, but I know this is what I want to do and my library doesn't have any.
Well...
I definitely wouldn't recommend looking up Library Genesis, a completely free service that hosts thousands of books of every kind to download at your convenience. I'd also never point you in the direction of The Internet Archive, which houses one of the largest libraries of written, audio, and visual media on the internet. If you need access to scientific journal articles with paywalls, I would never suggest putting the DOI number into SciHub to obtain access to free PDF copies.
I could never ethically say that these are great resources for anyone in academia or who are looking to learn. I'd never imply that the threshold for entry into the veterinary field is so impossibly high that it is almost unattainable. It's not like we could use all the help we could get.
I'd never say that.

my sweet little baby man is no longer with us
#he had his bloodwork done yesterday and the vet said it was fine but he doesnt have much time left#and my bestie is a vet tech who wanted to see the lab results bc she always does and she looked at them#and asked me if she can shiw them to her boss today and i was like sure and immediately knew something was up#today keekki was being himself#then i went to run some errands and when i came back he was laying in front of the front door with his tiny baby head against it#and i was like ''oh ok one of his seizures?''#and theyre like. keekki will drool and not move and they usually last for like 20 minutes (several vets have no idea whats up with those#but it was probably either a kidney or a blood pressure thing)#anyways. it did not pass in 20 minutes so i Knew#i laid on the floor next to him#then my bff sent me a message asking me if i have the time to talk about keekki and its not good news#at this point i was about to call the vet anyways#and she was like ''ok i showed these to my boss (a vet) and she got super angry that ur vet even let you leave the clinic''#bc apparently keekkis bloodwork was so bad he should have been put down then and there but my vet was like a fresh half graduate#so i dont hold it against her. anyways i got an euthanasia appointment for this evening and spent the time before it laying on the couch#crying with keekki in my arms#i had to carry him bc he couldnt really walk without stumbling and falling down#when i had to get up to get his carrier and stuff ready he was taking a nap on the couch where i left him and i took this pic#anyways worst vet visit of my life i could hardly even do anything but nod half the time bc speaking results in me sobbing#anyways. this fucking sucks#i dont know how ill be able to sleep tonight#its been years since i last slept at home without having a little guy plop into my arms#i spent a long time with him in the vet room when he was gone#it feels surreal ive given him his last ever forehead kisses#as i left the room i told him bye the exact same way ive been saying bye to him for the last very many years ive had him#its always moikka keekki before i go to work or the store or literally anything#and that was my last moikka keekki#i hope he felt how loved he was#my dad is sending me older pics of me and keekki and he looks so happy in them. hes always right next to me#idk man im going to stop rambling now

To all vets and vet techs you know or anyone who has successfully dewormed their dogs.
INCLUDES:
X-rays
Vet thoughts
Blood work
And more
You could save a life by sharing this. She’s held me down through all of these conspiracy works that he has done. 🤔

Thank you both for the kind words, I very much appreciate them. I'm sorry you also lost a pet recently, Electric - it's worse than I remember every time. I just have to be content knowing he's in a better place and he won't have to suffer lymphoma and arthritis anymore. I do feel a distant, flaring fury at his previous owner for never taking him to the vet (I suspect we could have prevented that intestinal cancer if he'd caught the gut problems in time and gave enough of a shit to take care of it), but it's not productive. What's done is done. Even if I'd pay good money to get away with throttling the motherfucker.
I actually debated on if I should put him down today, because over the weekend he perked up on some medicine and seemed to be going uphill a little - though if I was even a little late to give him that medicine, he would shut down and huddle in pain. When I brought that up to the vet, he sadly told me that the dosage Rocky was on should have cured him completely, not just made him more or less stable, if this was fixable. I'm eternally grateful for his honesty when he said that putting it off would just make things harder for me, and potentially worse for Rocky if the medicine stopped working. I ended up making the decision to do it today, as miserable as it made me.
It's funny. Geno's death was difficult and extremely painful, but somehow Rocky was the harder one to put down. At least with Geno, I had fourteen years with him, and I knew those years were good. Rocky was such a brief blip in my life, and yet I spent the entire weekend and drive to the vet trying to find a way out of putting him down today and wondering if I was doing the right thing. Odd thing to happen.

Arlo did a pretty good job for his first time at the vet since CareCenter threw a towel over his head and tackled him to the floor and I am very proud of him

Do you have any tips for a vet tech student who wants to work at a zoo at some point in the future?
The Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians is a great resource!!!
I would recommend browsing their list of zoo externships for tech students and joining as a subscribing member (only $22 USD a year). Professional memberships are incredibly helpful and also look great on resumes! The most difficult aspect of the zoo field is getting your foot in the door, but once you do, it becomes much easier to find opportunities.
In the mean time, keeping working hard in school and get strong letters of recommendation. If you’re a great vet tech for domestic species, you’ll be a great vet tech for exotics!
Good luck!

there have been many times I've thought a situation would turn me into the joker but the urinary blocked cat patient I'm dealing with today who has pulled out 2 urinary catheters and 3 iv's within seconds of going in a kennel despite every engineering attempt we can possible think of to keep these fucking tubes in his body is really actually literally gonna turn me into the joker

I gotta ask, I’m not sure if it was ever mentioned in the fic, but does King have scars from his near-fatal injury in the flashback chapters, or was it just healed perfectly?
You know, that’s a really good question and not something I’ve addressed in MoonShadow.
I think the answer would be that yes undoubtedly he does, but they aren’t necessarily visible under his fur.
Since Camila attended to King’s injuries immediately, the edges of any punctures and lacerations would have been fresh without any time for granulation tissue to develop. The external wounds would suture back together fairly nicely. Fur would likely grow back and cover them, although they could probably still be felt if one were to run their fingers over them under his fur.
That being said, I kind of love the idea of King having visible scars from the incident, so feel free to run with that!
(This is all assuming that Titans heal similarly to human realm mammals. Since the fist part of MoonShadow was written prior to much knowledge of Titans’ regenerative powers, I am not taking that bit of lore into account here, but it could certainly come into play in King surviving his injuries).

What do you know about getting a VTS? Do you know anyone who's gotten one? I'm looking at starting to pursue a VTS in behavior, anesthesia/analgesia, or ECC. Is it possible to get multiple throughout my career?
Well, I know that specializing isn't for me; I get way too bored when we have too much of one type of case in a row! :)
Each specialty has their own requirements, but my understanding is that most include already being a credentialed vet tech in good standing in your state for a certain number of years, submitting case reports, and having a DVM boarded in the specialty sign off on you completing the various skills and knowledge requirements. At the end you take an exam, and then you have certain CE requirements independent of state credentialing requirements to maintain your specialization.
It is possible to have multiple specialties; from what I've seen people who get specialized in multiple fields usually do so in ones with a lot of overlap (like surgery and anesthesia).
I've met a few VTS irl, mostly at professional conferences where they were giving CE lectures or labs. There are also FB groups with VTS moderators, such as Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds (anesthesia/analgesia).
Any VTS on here feel free to chime in!

I was so confused when you said a patient was named Sandman, until I saw that you were a veterinarian's assistant. 😆
