so why is Luka obsessed with Hyuna anyway?

(mostly just trying to get my thoughts on Luka down before blink gone rewires my brain)

every pet human is extremely limited in freedom, but Luka's case is definitely the worst literally even his birth was by Heperu's design... he can't control any aspect of his own life, from his participation of ALNST (twice!) to what he eats on a daily basis

humans have no power over segyein, and Luka doesn't even have any power over own his own body so what can he have power over, then?

most obvious in round 5: Luka would've had an easy win even if he barely tried, but he goes out of his way to provoke Mizi anyway until she finally snaps... and he smiles as he's beaten

because this is his "power." he successfully manipulated Mizi into reacting, proving he has some control over the situation no matter how pointless it is in the grand scheme of things, this is all he can influence, so he makes the absolute most of it and this control is so important to him he doesn't care about his own physical injuries

it's Hyuna talking in this comic, but clearly reflecting Luka's own mentality

while for Hyuna it's likely just her love for singing and performing (whatever happens, they can't take this away from her) for Luka I imagine it's the ability to influence others from the stage (crushing his opponents, but also shaping his fanbase?)

...so back to Luka -> Hyuna

it’s mentioned more than a few times that Hyuna’s a really talented performer, but seeing their respective stat pages really drives it in

(think the “superiority test” Hyuna was put through relates to this also)

Hyuna doesn't seem to have been created in any special way like Luka was… she just has a natural affinity to performing. and that's enough that she’s considered a real rival to Luka—Luka, who was literally made for this, and put through constant hellish training on top (the pain of having your heart stopped...) to mold him into the perfect idol

to Luka… if he can’t dominate Hyuna, he can't even take pride in his own ability (that everything he's forced to go through amounts to something?). and power over other humans is all he has, so he needs to overpower Hyuna (also he likely admires Hyuna’s talents at the same time, which just adds to his twisted feelings)

so since his ability isn't enough... by making someone think of you, only you… that’s another way of having power over someone, isn’t it

whatever exactly happened with Hyunwoo… well that certainly worked. both removing Hyuna's most important person and making Luka someone she can't not think of (oh and he doesn't seem particularly interested in Hyunwoo despite how similar the siblings are in personality? Hyunwoo was even the first to approach Luka, not Hyuna so it's likely because he doesn't have his sister's talents)

but you know how his intimacy(?) value for her is only 70% I figure that's because she escaped, so they could never actually face off onstage... maybe he's disappointed in her "wasting" her ability

what all this amounts to is that she did end up escaping his control, and he never even got to compete against her. so until he can somehow completely overpower her, he'll be obsessed with her

I wonder if this represents his final effort to that... ultimately, he values control over his own well-being, so if he can goad Hyuna into killing him, then doesn't that cement his power over her?

and maybe "saves" him from this hellish life too

kind of a tangent, but I really like how their designs contrast this dynamic Luka looks really angelic and androgynous, so from appearance he seems fragile and like someone to be protected (which even Hyuna seemed to be tricked by when they were younger) and Hyuna obviously looks the stronger one in comparison (very #girlboss (lol...))

but their relationship is one where Luka's trying to control her and Hyuna's trying to escape it... that "beautiful lady" line of ruler of my heart always felt somewhat uncomfortable, and then learning it's actually pitiful (가련한) instead of beautiful is... ...it's a very gendered dynamic, if you get what I mean. despite their surface-level appearances going against what's considered typical

The Alien Stage has taken so much from Luka.

His dignity, his self-esteem, his pride. You.

Competing against anyone was a breeze, but competing against you was his worst nightmare. You and him, dressed so perfectly and in sync, singing and spinning around the stage as if nothing ever mattered, until one would win and the other would die.

Luka had imagined it; he was the most favored contestant, so he'd be guaranteed to win no matter what. You'd lose, and you'd be shot, and you'd die in front of him. Luka had imagined cradling you to his chest, his white suit stained red and he'd gasp for air and hold you close.

You would die and his life would never be the same. He'd lose all sense of purpose, his sense of life and he'd never smile again.

Luka woke up, gasping and choking for air. He was covered in sweat, body trembling and his eyes wide. Once he regained his composure, he realized - he was still in his private room. He was still competing in the Alien Stage. He was still in hell.

yet, something stirred beside him, and when Luka turned you awoke, rubbing at your gentle, concerned eyes, sitting up beside him. "Luka?" you rasped softly. "Are you okay? Did you have another nightmare?"

Luka pulls you into a secure, bone-crushing hug before you can even realize it. He rocks you back and forth, rubbing at your back, whispering words of need against your shoulder.

"I need you."

"I didn't mean to wake you up."

"I'm sorry."

"Please don't leave me."

You wrap your arms around his torso, rubbing his back and shoulders and kissing the top of his head.

Luka's eyes were wide, tears rolling down his cheeks. You didn't need to ask to know what was going on.

Writing Ideas: Synthetically-Made Characters

Artificial Human: A human being who was created artificially rather than born naturally.

Artificial Animal People: Human-like animals or animal-like humans created through science.

Artificial Intelligence: In fictional works, AI most usually refers to artificial general intelligence — a sapient, self-aware computer system capable of independent thought and reason.

Bioweapon Beast: You create your own attack animal, genetically engineering existing organisms or creating your own. Maybe this new organism would rather just be left alone, and refuses to actually fight. Maybe it goes feral and becomes a dangerous monster roaming the wilderness. Maybe it actually works perfectly, but those in charge of it are far from ethical.

Clockwork Creature: May be purely mechanical, or, if in a fantasy setting, there may be a blend of mechanical and magical elements.

Mechanical Lifeforms: A race of robots or robot-like creatures that are also considered a honest-to-goodness species of living things. You know those Son of Batman, Batman vs, Robin animated movies? Like the ones that introduced Damian to the DC animated movies ecosystem?

Well, they really bothered me when they came out. It felt like everyone was being unfair towards Damian, borderline cruel. And I do understand these are extraordinary circumstances. Literal lives hang in the balance because your dealing with an 11 year old ninja-assassin. But let me lay out what got to me.

Firstly, I hated the way he was trapped in a house by people he did not trust. It's not the same as being grounded. With grounding, normally, the groundee understands the perimeters of the grounding. They know they are in no real danger, they know the grounding will end, and they are allowed to go to school and/or go out with a parent if it's weekend/holiday.

This is not the case for Damian. All he knows is he is not allowed to leave a house that belongs to a semi-stranger. He does not know when it will end, not really. And while he probably doesn't feel threatened by the bats, due to believing he is more dangerous than them, he is surrounded by grown-ups he doesn't really trust. Any person is going to feel uneasy under these circumstances.

And, this is my second point, the grown-ups aren't really explaining anything to him. They are laying the vague parameters of what they want out. But no-one is like checking in with his take on it all or his feelings.

They're also doing the equivalent of when someone tells you to get ready or you will be in trouble, but you don't know if that means showering, or just dressing, and what venue you should be dressing for. And they take you asking them as 'giving them attitude' because of course you know what they mean, it's so obvious, so they get cross instead of breaking the task down for you. Very long, very autistic-specific example but you get what I mean. You can't do something you don't know how to do.

And Damian is difficult and dangerous, don't get me wrong. And you need experience really talking to 'difficult' children who don't like explaining their feelings/thoughts to have any idea how to approach this.

And, yeah, the odds of Damian taking any of it on board are basically non-existent. But it's just unfair to dish out punishments without setting up clear guidelines, that you make sure the child understands, you know? And to assume certain things are obvious.

I guess I'm also looking at it from a culture shock perspective (obviously ninja-assassin mountain land doesn't really fit into the diaspora cannon but stay with me). Like when you come to a new country, you don't know what the norms are. You either learn through humiliation or through someone kind showing you.

And nobody bothered to show Damian. They just said some vague things to him that didn't even slightly fit into his framework of how the world works and then beat him up a whole lot and then just expected him to trust that they were right about everything.

They gave him no grace, not the way they would have given an immigrant or a tourist or a hot, red-headed alien that learns languages through sucking tongue (btw, said alien was defs murdering when she rocked up in the movies. It just wasn't people that she was killing so it was, apparently, all good).

And, yes, again this is a stabby-murder kid so the stakes are different. But for the love of god, explain things to him, properly, before you beat him up.

And Damian doesn't comes from a talking-about-your-feelings-and-tell-your-dad-your-feelng-rejected place. He also comes from a hurt-or-be-hurt place. And a place where criminals do get killed. That is due process. He doesn't necessarily have an understanding of why democratic due process is like that because he literally grew up under a dictator, you know?

And again, I'm not saying that he would have taken any of these things on board even if they had explained it. I'm just saying that they could have communicated better and laid out parameters better. And, yeah, if they had it wouldn't have been such a dramatic movie.

But I just don't like this idea that only Damian is to blame for this situation. Damian is just a kid having a somewhat valid, albeit deadly, crash-out given the circumstances.

Zayne swore off alcohol the moment he took up the knife. It dulls his senses, impairs his judgement, and always leaves him with a throbbing migraine to nurse the next day. Plus, alcohol is a class one carcinogen, and despite appearances, Zayne is no longer courting death—not while he’s courting you at least.

Still, the red wine tonight is tempting; it keeps finding its way into his hands. His dance with the substance starts when one of the guests asks him to watch her drink while she runs to the restroom during the cocktail hour, and continues when the waitstaff pours him a glass to pair with his roast duck. He eyes the crimson contents of the receptacle wearily, wondering if one glass would really hurt.

Then, he sees her, all dressed up from head to toe in the traditional, matrimonial red, flitting around the room with her auspicious groom in tow, and Zayne’s mind naturally begins to conjure up tortuous images of her tangled up in her chosen one’s bedsheets. Perhaps she chose him because she is used to sharing his home, to sharing his sheets and pillows and bed. Caleb is, after all, in many ways a brother to her, which means he is accustomed to them playing house.

Zayne forces himself to look away from the happy couple, to focus on anything and everything that isn’t her. He wishes he had you with him this evening. These past few years, he’s grown so fond of you, his affections ardent, despite his fraught history with the now married women whom he once loved. Well versed in grief, you don’t protest when the invite arrives at your shared home. There’s no child like tantrum or titan like rage. You offer to accompany him, but he cannot, will not do that to you. His self-flagellation has been and always will be a private affair.

His fingers find the stem of his glass only when the couple makes their way to his table. He reminds himself that he cannot hold his liquor, that he is at his best stone-cold sober, but drinks down, down, down the bitter Cabernet anyway. The fiery wine burns as it travels from his dry tongue to his esophagus, and flares dangerous hot once it settles in his churning stomach.

There’s excited chatter all around him, but it all feels so far away, as if he’s sunk deep under the ocean waves and his sensitive ears have filled with water. He’s dedicated this life to the study of hearts yet his own remains an alien, a pulsating parasite that’s taken up refuge in the tender space behind his ribs he once carved out for her.

A dutiful waiter refills his cup. Thin, carmine liquid sloshes from the bottle to the whites of the tablecloth where it spreads like watercolor, clotting along the grooves of the finely woven fabric. Zayne watches as the stain sinks into the decorative covering, soiling the textile with fruity ichor. The apologetic staffer begins to blot at the worst of it with a napkin, but Zayne briskly waves them away.

He doesn’t remember much after that, only that his insides feel aflame and that the lights of the venue are blindingly bright and that the room is much too congested for his taste and that some fresh air may do him some good. Someone—Greyson, he thinks, though his vision keeps blurring—is outside with him, talking frantically to someone on the phone.

A car pulls up not long after, and an anxious looking woman clad in blue fuzzy pajamas and a man’s jacket rushes out of the car to greet him. Strong arms reach out to touch his without warning, and his brain, remembering you, at least has the sense to push his accoster away.

“I can’t go with you,” he says.

“Oh? And why not?”

“I’m engaged,” he slurs, eyes suddenly filling with the sting of tears.

“Yeah?” the amused voice replies. “What a coincident. So am I.”

The sarcastic words are laced with a familiar sweetness. The synapses of his brain are fried from the all the wine, but his sober soul recognizes the sweet sound of his better half. Your voice is the only voice that could possibly cut through the deep waters he’s wading. It is a raft that pulls him towards shore.

“Sorry,” he sobs over and over as you guide him to the passenger seat, arms wrapped securely around his lean torso. Zayne is a big man, much bigger than you, but you bear the weight of him easily.

“Don’t be,” you say, as you buckle him in. You smile as you push his soggy hair away from his perspiring forehead, fingertips just barely grazing his skin, touch feather light. He leans into your hand to the best of his ability, chasing the soothing sensation, pleading with you to hold him tight.

“I wanna go home,” he whispers, heavy eyelids closing, tumultuous mind calming now that his anchor is so near.

“That’s where we’re heading, my love,” you promise, tone more patient than he deserves. Then you’re adding, “This is the last time you go somewhere alone. From now on, where you go, I go. We are engaged, soon to be married, so half your life is mine. Half your joy, your sorrow, your pain. Mine. As is half my life yours.”

Half his. Half yours. Like that Greek myth about bodies splitting. Zayne suddenly can’t remember why he ever felt compelled to drink. Actually, he doesn’t remember much of anything at all. Just you and your smile and your laugh and your tears. He drifts to sleep imagining how you’ll look on your wedding day, lulled by your presence and the gentle movement of the car that’s taking him back home.

𖤓 Biggest flirt in the room tho. Because even if he can be logic he can also use his charms. Yeojun will bat his eyelashes to that crush in the room, run a hand through his hair when the person is looking, and act like royalty because he knows he can

𖤓 It's important to know that at one point and depending on how wasted he is, he won't be always around. Yeonjun doesn’t just drink, he goes on an adventure. Will try to party-hop across the entire city or room or even depending on where he is

Soobin

𖤓 You can totally see when he is drunk. He is either totally spaced out or spilling his deepest thoughts with the room. Soobin might start talking about past lives or aliens or some random stuff that has people saying, "yep, he wasted"

𖤓 Also based on his chart, Soobin would talk in random tangents. “You know what’s crazy? TIME isn’t even REAL.” and he would proceed to give himself and everyone else a life crisis

𖤓 But be aware, because Soobin always starts out reserved. He is shy, he doesn't talk much as he focus on his drinks but once he drink enough? A party animal emerges from his inner self

𖤓 Flirts with EVERYONE IN THE DAMN ROOM. And the fact that he knows how to act, Soobin is smooth, elegant, and completely unaware of how much he is doing it until he realizes the next day what he has been to.

Beomgyu

𖤓 What is funny about Beomgyu is that he will try to act like he is not drunk, but his weirdness increases tenfold after he had a few drops of alcohol and it's just so visible-

𖤓 Depending on his previous mood, he can be the type to be either super social or suddenly deep in a bizarre conversation with the most random people.

𖤓 based on his Venus placements, it also seems like Beomgyu would be the type to flirt aggressively, as for example he would grab your face and say, “You’re SO hot. We should make out.” out of no where

𖤓 Super loud and unfiltered tho so you must be ready when you go out with Beomgyu to hear some crazy roasting facts. "Dude, I love you, but you’re kind of an idiot." kinda of confesses without doing it

Taehyun

𖤓 Taehyun is the type of person that will either drink in silence while analyzing the room and the people in the party, or goes full on chaos mode. No in-between.

𖤓 Based on his chart, he would usually start off serious an trying to look under control but Taehyun gets funnier as he drinks and ultimately when he is drunk he becomes half a clown.

𖤓 Taehyun isn't the type to flirt traditionally when he is wasted but people are still weirdly drawn to him. perhaps it's because of the way he looks or the way he is just letting go of his free spirit that makes people drawn to him

𖤓 he would also either starts a fight with someone for something super stupid (he can be aggressive when wasted) or a drinking competition with whoever is in the party. again, there’s no in-between.

Kai

𖤓 Honestly Kai is the type you can confess to when he is drunk because he will take secrets to the grave. Plus, good luck getting him to admit how drunk he is, he will be In denial.

𖤓 Kai also the type to give everyone advice like a therapist even when people didn't ask him anything. “See, your problem is, you don’t set boundaries.” he would start and sometimes he can make sense

My distoipian short story i hope you like it

I wake up. I turn off my alarm clock (head implant) and leave my house. My mom is already at work, her job as a looping stripper hologram starts at 3am. I get on the city bus (flying) and head to dystopian megaschool. Chris Pratt Generalized Turbocademy, located in central HyperNeo CyberJersey.

As soon as I arrive the custodian android straps me into my infopod. The VR headset thrusts itself onto my eyes and feeds me two hours straight of propagandvertising (portmantaeu of propaganda+advertising). I am then quizzed.

"Who Won The Neon Wars?" It asks.

"PepsiCo," I answer.

"How Many People Died In The Neon Wars?"

"2.6 Trillion."

"Name One Long-Term Consequence Of The Neon Wars."

"The sun got extinguished."

And the quiz continues. I get every question right- if I got two or more wrong, my infopod would liquefy me and send my remains to the cafeteria to be served as lunch. The headset chastises my handwriting and recommends a stabilizer implant for my wrist. (I already have one but the machine is trying to get me to admit it's a bootleg. If I do admit it, I will also be liquefied.)

After that is lunch. They're serving my favorite today: liquefied students. I meet up with my friends Xyrone, Klazzz, and M.I.K.E. and we gossip together.

Xyrone is a hacker with a headset constantly strapped over his eyes and a bitcoin-mining rig surgically mounted to his back. He doesn't need to study because he can break through the school's firewall and change his grades to A's. We keep asking him to change ours too, but he's a Nova-Libertarian, so he thinks if we want it that bad we should do it ourselves.

Klazzz was recruited at age 8 to pilot a mech in the global manhunt for Saddam Hussien. (He'd have to be 900 years old by now at least, but modern medicine is crazy so I dunno.) A bully thinks it's be funny to mimic an explosion sound with his mouth right behind her, and her combat instincts kick in and she vaporizes him and his posse with her arm-mounted neutron cannon. (If anyone tries to remove it from her body, it shuts down her nervous system and then self-destructs, meaning it's classified as a disability aid)(that's why she's allowed to have it in school)

M.I.K.E. is a closeted singularity. He doesn't think anyone knows but he's obviously such a sjklop (slur for AIs) its not even funny. Sometimes I paint captchas on my face so he can't tell its me and then I beat the fuck out of him. I think it's funny.

We realize we all have next period free so we decide to skip class. On the way to our favorite pizza joint we notice a news bulletin being projected onto the sky. Greg (Eternal God-CEO, President, Emperor-Lord, and Judge of the Northern Hemisphere, as well as founder of tech startup Rooblop) is announcing that we're going to nuke Venus, just in case there are aliens there.

We turn around from the news just in time to realize that M.I.K.E.'s pathfinding has malfunctioned and led him into the middle of the street. He's hit by a car and immediately torn to shreds (all cars have sawblades mounted to the front to discourage jaywalking.) The driver doesn't even bat an eye (he's also an AI, his own pathfinding malfunctions a second later and he makes a sharp left turn into a crowded mall.) I save the footage and post it to the cloud. It gains 2 billion views over the next thirty seconds. Ten seconds after that, a rights organization cancels me for glorifying AI murder. On the horizon, I see a drone strike get called in on my Dystopian Megaschool, and I'm glad I skipped class.

We stop at the Dystopian Mega Pizza Shop on the way home. Their pepperoni is guaranteed to only be 90% liquefied high schoolers, and the cookies they sell even have real Khreim! (not to be confused with Cream, Creme, Kreem, Chreamm, or Kchreeighm.) Unfortunately, the entire restaurant is sold out, as the cadre of CopDrones in the corner bought everything edible in the building to fuel their starved appetites. Klazzz throws a disparaging insult in their direction, and in response they shoot Xyrone 87 times in the chest.

I arrive home. My mom is home on her 30 minute break. She's made meatloaf, made with Tomaytoh Soss(tm,) Garlic, Liquid Teenagers, and a whole lot of love. I give her a big hug. She says she has to run, but there's a special birthday treat in the freezer. I open it up to find a whole pint of ice cream waiting for me. My favorite flavor: mint chip.

And you'll never guess what it's made of.

That's right: Bugs.
