1/22/2021 Today it rained I felt it’s pelts against me as I lay on the ground looking up into the sky. They were tiny and small. Just starting to fall. Today I mourned It was warm and pleasant next to my mother’s grave. Today I saw a rainbow Today I enjoyed looking at art with my husband Today I listened to a friend Today I drove in the rain at night. I felt it as it stuck my hand out the window and the sunroof. Felt the tiny pelts against my hand. They were cold and refreshing. I went a bit faster on the highway and felt them sting and freeze. I touched my hand to my face. It was cold and refreshing. Lost life - 11/21/2020 Charcoal drawing Today I am giving thanks to the life used and consumed that has allowed me to be here today. And the life that continues to sustain me. This drawing could not have existed with out trees, plants, or animals lost. The paper is fibers from many sources, some recycled, some freshly consumed. The note book was already partially used when I received it and I will not waste its remaining pages. The charcoal could not have existed without the burning of branches from trees. My blending tool was the skin of an animal. This drawing could not have existed without these lives and I want to pay homage to their lives and use them well. This is my self doubt monster! I created it when I was beating myself up over tiny things I did or said. I made this about 20 days ago. And I have come back to this image repeatedly. 1. To put that self doubt in its place and say no I am better than this and it’s ok to make mistakes 2. I’ve discovered some really cool imagery. Self doubt can spiral and you can sink deeper and deeper. But my husband pointed out that there is always a way out. I’ve also discovered some strong profiles of women on the outer layers of this monster, in a way saying I’m more than my doubts and I’m better and strong than them. Also below the spiral it’s possible to get stuck in nasty jagged maze but it is also possible to avoid it entirely. How have you overcome self doubt?
