A Late Night Visit

Ashley Lincoln gets an unexpected, but welcome, visitor after settling into their new home provided by the agency in the middle of the night.

There are many things in Dr. Ashley Lincoln's mind while they were moving, many worries flooded her mind. However, packing the boxes served as a great distraction.

Until they had finished putting away all the boxes, leaving her alone with her worries once again.

It had been a calculated risk to turn to the agency, the "enemy", however, it served as her well. But even if it didn't, she couldn't turn her eyes away. Not when the gravity of the situation hit her.

Not when her own hands could participate in the deaths of millions.

A hand on her shoulder interrupted her thoughts, then a chill down her back. She wasn't alone.

"You doing alright, Ash?"

It took her entire willpower not to scream for help. Zoraxis wouldn't want any other witnesses to whatever they had planned. She quietly turned around, intending to face her fate bravely, only to be filled with indignation when she saw a cheeky grin in a very familiar face.

"... Florian." The name rolled off her tongue with ease, taking with it a hint of resentment. "Are you trying to kill me with a heart attack? Because that's what you almost did."

Florian merely grinned at the blond's words, brown hair swaying as a laugh was failed to be stifled. "I didn't mean to. It was just... You were so deep in thought you didn't even hear me come in."

Ashley's eyes widened at the words. "W-wait. How did you even find me?"

"... I'm with the agency."

"I'm not surprised. So, what are you working on? Have you met Dr. Prism?"

"... I'm not in R&D. I'm in a different department, sorry." Florian gave a wry grin, smile awkward as they handed her a cup of tea and a box of chocolates.

"Now that's the surprise. Which department are you in? Accounting? Because-" She paused her words, seeing the hurt look in her friend's eyes. "... Right. Sorry."

"It's for me to know and for you to find out." The hint of mischief in Florian's eyes was nigh impossible to miss, brown with grey combining to mesmerize her. "I had to deal with doubts when I joined the agency as well. I figured you might need an ear who'll listen to them. Maybe I can ease your worries somewhat. You know, like back then when we'd complain about college."

Warmth spread through Ashley's heart as nostalgia came back with full force. Maybe the agency wouldn't be as lonely. She knew someone else. Someone she could trust.

"... Do you know who the agent is?" She wondered, the cup of tea already finished, along with it several recollections that filled her heart with encouragement.

"Yes." Florian's hand flinched as they took a bite of the chocolate from the box they'd opened as memory lane was walked down once again. "I know their handler. He's... an eccentric with slightly dark humor. Then again, I like to watch explosions too so I'm not judging."

"Still not telling me which department you're in, huh?"

"Nope!" They grinned, only to feel a quiet buzz from their pocket. It took a lot of willpower not to groan at the alert. "... It's getting late, huh?"

The two stared at the wall clock, both hands on the upper right corner.

"... I should also go to bed. Would you like to stay the night? For old time's sake."

Florian merely shook their head. "No. Sorry. My desk is too far from here. We're in different buildings."

Her shoulders slumped at the news.

"But I'll try to see if I can visit often, alright?" They gave her a smile as they put away the cups they used and put on the coat.

"... Alright. Stay safe on your way back.*

They nodded, vanishing in the darkness of night as if they were never there.

Agent 13-12 grabbed the earpiece from their pocket and put it on. "Read you loud and clear, sir."

"Agent, there you are. Where were you?"

"I was making sure Dr. Lincoln is safe in the agency housing."

"I see. Well, you need not fret over her. The agency will take care of her well.

Onto business, shall we?"

Ashley Lincoln escapes Zoraxis and turns to the Agency with info about the weaponized virus. Phoenix gets the mission to neutralize the virus and succeeds, and Ashley becomes a civilian asset for the Agency, probably somewhere in the R&D department.

Do you think she would have been a diehard Phoenix fan? They effectively absolved her of her role in a mass murder by figuring out the clues she left behind in the lab. That's pretty awesome. I could fall for a secret agent who did that...

But if so, did Prism have to deal with a massive Phoenix fangirl in her department the whole damn time she was working on those robots? Did Ashley lead the Agency fanclub for agents signing up for TK implants? Did she save fanfiction on the department computers?

Hi again! I was wondering if you had any Headcannons on Ashley Lincoln (The chemist from the first game)

it’s always a bit difficult to make headcanons for characters that literally don’t ever appear on screen bc i could say literally anything and it could be true but here’s a couple!

-softest hair on planet earth. it’s like touching silk; very fine and pretty. braids slip right out, though.

-is genuinely really into the theoretical side of Evil Chemistry, just not so much the application. like someone who has a special interest in poisons

-she and Dr Prism went to college at the same time and were very briefly rivals. although she managed to safely escape Zoraxis (with a little help from the Agency) she kept an eye on that world. she almost wishes that she’d stayed just so that she could’ve told Prism that Zor’s support was NOT worth it.

-has a very bad habit of cooking food on the bunsen burners. would often warm up her lunch over one, which her boss, Daniel Sans, did not like

-she has a young daughter who she used as cover for bringing in the big, chunky, color-coded table of elements and the picture with the formula

-favorite color is pink :)
