A... human..? walks over. It looks like a human, but there's something off about it.

"And you expect me to help you... why exactly?" the sorcerer spoke with an even voice towards the lowly serf kneeling below him. As the man started to stand, the sorcerer saw beyond his rags a long scar along his throat. He is an elder, white hair on him. "I-I-I apologize for the intrusion" the serf begins, trying his best to replicate this mage's high-class accent, "but I come from Lord Misrum's plot, and--" he bit his tongue for a moment. He had to think of the right words. Respectful words. "And we are in trouble--" "What sorts of trouble?" the mage asked with a raised eye. "Um. Well, it's just that-um-well, Lord Misrum has made himself aligned with the Devil. He has, um, disregarded the church's sanctions, the laws, and we cannot stop his tyranny, for he wishes to continue--or, I mean, he wishes to expand his territories--" "And you ask for my help why?" the sorcerer looked bored, his handsome face obstructed by darkness, only dimly lit by braziers that hung from the ceiling. "I heard you were a kind mage. You know of goodness--" "Goodness!" the sorcerer chuckled at the word. "What do I, a sorcerer, know of goodness?" his tone was still merry, but the way he inflected his words, the way his face contorted into sneer made it feel like a threat. "I am a mere man--" "I am the bane of the church, much like your master. I am of devil-kind--do you not know that?" The serf stayed quiet. And in the silence the sorcerer laughed once again. It wasn't a haughty, high laughter, but rather the laughter of broken men--a laugh that the serf knew all too well. "Have you ever seen magic?" And the serf was once again too afraid to speak, so he merely shook his head. The sorcerer nodded and clapped his hands, a sudden gust of wind erasing all light from the hall. The darkness startled the serf, who swallowed. His instinct insisted retreat, but he refused the call. He heard a strange whisper from the mage in darkness, and under his breath the serf spoke the Lord's prayer. A light broke through the darkness as a small drake blew flame onto the mage's hand. The fire did not burn him, and rather than extinguishing stayed upon him as if it were a forest. The mage seemed unamused by his own magic, by the miracles he was capable of. "I am the Great Slayer of Azuk, the Disaster of Languin Port, and the last remnant of times forgot by all likes of mortals--I know no goodness for I have never seen an ounce of mercy; I know no kindness for I have only seen selfish reason; I know no peace for I am constantly beckoned for ruin. I am the vile prince Vael, Sorcerer of the Dragon God Ashet, and I ask once more: why should I help you? The serf fell. The magic bestowed upon him was simple, but he felt its power. The wind was an ethereal, passing through not just matter but souls. He felt the blow of the dragon's fire--a flame that eats at not mere wood and oil, but rather licks at other fires for fuel. The man before him was of powers beyond comprehension, and he knew his mistake. He spoke in his bow: "I am sorry to have made conference with you. I am but a lowly servant; I am a slave to Lord Misrum and I have seen the devil in his eyes. I have rejected him multiple times. I have been told to work for the devil and yet I cannot for it is a sin. He has taken my husband as payment. He has beaten me, and I was only left alone until they thought I was dead. I am sorry for ruining your silence. I am but a poor man. I am but nobody. I am only here for my husband. Please help my husband! He is a man of faith, and I promise you my soul and my slavehood if you could only but free him!" and then silence filled the room once more, other than the heavy breathing of a broken man. "I know no goodness" the sorcerer spoke, his accent that of the lowly classes. "I know no kindness" his eyes were focused on the long distant past. "I know no peace" devil; demon; hellspawn yelled the people of his village. "I am ruin; I am death; I am Hell... and the scar on your throat shall be born on Misrum's soul, for he has made an enemy of man, and thus an enemy of me".

Would Chrom help Max and Juvel get together??
unprompted | feel free to send ~ | @psychcdelica
[ [ tbh he would not at first?? her father is against max for a reason and it is not something he can butt in. however, i’m sure he gets curious about this max he hears juvel talk about, whether she mentions him to him or to lissa and emmeryn over tea. so he asks him to spar with him and seeing him fight he can tell max is being genuine so call him your ally and he will help them~ plus hands down lissa will be their first fan and want them to hook up lol

My understanding of the situation:
Millie was the Living Ashet. When the Living Ashet got too old, Ashet demanded her live. In the temple they figured out that Ashet only demanded a live, not a specific one. So they used the cats and send the girls off. In Millie's case, Gabriel gave Ashet the live that Uncle Ralph shoot out of him and that he had sort of lost anyway.
As far as I remember, nobody ever said where they send the girls. It is only stated that Ashet is sort of jealous and somehow needs the girls' powers. Since the priestress seems to be informed about series 12 (she knows what a boarding school is), I think they send all the girls to another world. (They loose their "family" anyway and adjusting to a life outside the temple may be tricky. Plus Ashet may have issues with a supposedly dead girl running around. Maybe the general populace (she becomes part of Ashet?) does too. Plus, we know very little about this series. As I understand it, Mr. Saunders says that he has a doppelganger in another world of series 12 but not that everybody has eight doppelgangers. The Chrestomancis seem to be rare because of this. Maybe there only ever was one Millie because the doppelgangers simply didn't exist.
In short: Millie would be gone from her world under all circumstances. There was never a Millie-shaped hole to begin with.
The same basic thing can be applied to Mordecai/Tacroy. The boss of his world (forgot the name) controls everything and everyone and has Tacroy's soul. Technically, Tacroy isn't really gone from his world. Since the boss is powerful enough to prevent eleven from becoming a series, he should have the power to prevent a Tacroy-shaped hole. (This hole could maybe make the world split.) I put him in the same power level as Ashet, maybe above. He's probably sort of a god.
(Speaking of gods: I really mean gods in the sense of extremely powerful beings who may be immortal, can bend the rules of reality but are subject to some rules. See Dark Lord of Derkholm where the gods are powerless to do anything so long as nobody goes, prays and asks.)
Conrad's case lacks the god and has a rather fragile world. As far as I understand the book, everything happening in Stallery has brought the whole series to the brink of collapse. Maybe taking Conrad out permanently would make it collapse. Maybe another live was needed and Gabriel didn't want to give one of his and was adamantly against Christopher giving one of his. (Why didn't Gabriel give one of his? I think he needed someone in series 8 who was trustwortly, powerful, and could talk reasons into Christopher if need be. Politics, everyone.)
Gwendolyn and Jane and the others is a simple swap since they are doppelgangers.
The last example is the boy from this one short story. It's the one in which Christopher has a cold and wears a dressing gown with stars and meteorites. In this case everything goes wrong in spite of a god medling because the gods set the world up in such an orderly fashion that the events the god wanted to prevent happen even without the one who was supposed to set them in motion... So in my opinion, this doesn't count.
hello! i've been reading chrestomanci lately and since you're the only blog i knew that knows dwj i decided to ask u. do you know why millie doesn't disappear from christopher's world just like gabriel said conrad would if he spent too much time in another world besides his own?
Hello! uhhh it's been so long since I read that, so I don't remember, sorry!! But maybe someone else does?
