DAI questions! I'm curious to hear about Anwen, but feel free to talk about others too!
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 17, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25!
Thank you for the asks! ^^Answering them took a while but I love rambling about my characters, so here we go : DD
3. Where was your Inquisitor born? Where did they grow up?
Anwen Lavellan mostly grew up in the Free Marches where her clan has been roaming for several years now, moving in the wilderness in between settlements and sometimes trading with them if deemed safe. However I'm thinking she was born somewhere in Orlais because she has memories of the clan camping in a fortress near Tirashan forest. Anwen was a child at the time, and the eerie voices and other mysterious things that some of the clan hunters had noticed in the night both scared and fascinated her.
4. What are your Inquisitor's parents names? Do they have siblings? What are their names?
Anwen's mother Arinna is the clan's Halla Keeper, and her father Theron is a hunter. Anwen doesn't have any siblings, but she's always been very close with her cousin Tris whom she considers to be like a brother to her. When they were children they got into all sorts of little adventures together, including venturing into above mentioned Tirashan forest at night in search of the source of the mysterious voices. They got lost and things could have ended very badly if Theron and other hunters hadn't found them. The kids received a stern lecture after that, but most of all everyone was relieved that nothing bad had happened.
5. How old is your Inquisitor at the start of the game?
24.
6. Where does your Inquisitor like to hang out at Haven?
Depending on her mood she's either hanging out with her companions, or walking somewhere near the lake to be alone with her thoughts. After all, everything that's happened to her at that point is very overwhelming at times and she misses home.
7. Who was your Inquisitor's first friend in the Inquisition?
Varric is very friendly with Anwen from the start and she finds him fun and easy to talk to, so he's her first real friend in the Inquisition. She has also read many of his books so she's excited to discuss them with him, especially the Tale of the Champion.
Early on Anwen also gets well along with Solas; she doesn't fully understand him because he's clearly not Dalish but doesn't seem like a city elf either, so she wonders where exactly he came from, but is very fascinated by his tales and views on spirits, magic, Fade and history, so she enjoys discussing with him. So they get along well but maybe they're not really friends yet at that point, or not at least in the same way she and Varric are.
And when Anwen is introduced to Josephine she immediately likes her, and they become fast friends (and later lovers). With Josie Anwen feels like she's truly seen and accepted for who she is as a person, and Josie also makes her feel secure navigating the strange world of human politics.
17. How did your Inquisitor feel about becoming an Inquisition agent? How did they feel about getting promoted to Inquisitor?
Becoming an Inquisition agent and being hailed as "Herald of Andraste" was very confusing and overwhelming for Anwen, considering that she had simply happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time (or right place at the right time?) and she wasn't even Andrastian. But she's always been determined and decided that regardless of what happened, the giant hole in the sky was something that really needed to be dealt with, so better start working on it. Getting promoted to Inquisitor was also something that awakened mixed feelings in her, but at the end of the day she decided that it would be a great opportunity for her to try and change the world while saving it, making it a better and more equal place to live in.
19. How does your Inquisitor dress when they aren't in the field?
While Anwen does use the clothes given to her in Haven and Skyhold (why waste anything?), she prefers to wear Dalish clothing. They remind her of home and feel comfortable and practical to wear.
21. What pet would your Inquisitor have? What would they name it?
Anwen has two harts that she uses as her mounts, and they're her pets/trusty animal companions. Their names are Revas (Freedom) and Enasalin (Victory). Revas is a Red Hart and has been with Anwen since she made the journey to Haven, while Enasalin is Royal Sixteen and was given to her as a gift from her clan after they were saved. Other than her harts, Anwen would probably like having an owl or something like that as a pet, and she'd name it similarly to her harts: an elven word with a fine meaning.
23. What has your Inquisitor been up to between Trespasser and Veilguard? After disbanding the Inquisition, Anwen wanted to go see her clan and took her girlfriends with her so they could meet her family. Everyone loved Josephine and Lace (who wouldn't) and the visit went great. But then it was time to leave again as Josie needed to return to Antiva to take over as the leader of Montilyet family, and Anwen had decided to go with her. It was a mix of emotions for Anwen. On one hand she was happy that she had found amazing partners and was moving in with one of them, and was able to have that happy ending after everything she'd been trough. On the other hand the years she'd been away from her clan had changed her life so much that she didn't feel like returning to them was an option anymore; they would have welcomed her of course, but her home was elsewhere now. And that thought made Anwen a bit wistful. So Anwen moved to Antiva with Josie, which despite the Inquisition years was a huge change for Anwen as Antiva is in many ways very different from Orlais or Ferelden. She also met Josie's family for the first time (save for Yvette who had been at the Winter Ball) and had to adjust to living with many changes: she was not the Inquisitor anymore, she had to learn how to cast spells and go about her daily life with just one hand... It was a lot, but after a while Anwen realized that she was doing great and was happy with her life. Anwen has been traveling too, with Josie, with Lace and with her friends from the Inquisition days. She's been excited to see how they're doing and where they're living now. She exchanges letters with them actively. While the Inquisition has been disbanded and Anwen is officially retired from her position, she does keep tabs on how everything with Solas is going, and is ready to help if needed.
24. If you have more than one Inquisitor, which do you consider your "canon" Inquisitor? Which is your favorite?
Anwen is my canon inky, but I also have two more! Although, even though they're inquisitors in their own playtroughs, in my actual canon they're additional companions and members of Anwen's Inner Circle. They're Lucan Trevelyan and Asherah Adaar. I'm currently nearing the end of Lucan's playtrough, I started it a long time ago but then I paused it to play The Witcher trilogy, and Baldur's Gate 3 ^^" Asherah's playtrough I haven't actually even begun yet, but the character has been cooking in my brain for years.
Lucan Trevelyan is the youngest child of his family, and a sort of a black sheep as he refused both options that his religious parents planned for him, those being A. join the Chantry as a priest or a Templar B. political marriage to strengthen the bonds between the Trevelyans and another noble family. Lucan yearned for travel and adventures, so the life paths that his parents envisioned for him seemed very boring and restricting to him. He's also only attracted to men, so marrying a woman would have forced him to live a lie. And even if that wasn't an issue, he's a dreamer and a romantic who very much wants to choose his own partner. When Lucan heard about the Conclave he volunteered to go as his family's representative and his parents agreed, thinking it was good that he showed an interest in something like that. Mainly Lucan saw it as an opportunity to go abroad and experience something new. Events took way more surprising turn than Lucan could have ever imagined, and soon he found himself in the newly founded Inquisition. There he also met Dorian, the love of his life.
Lucan's class is rogue and specialization Tempest, because he's always been interested in magic despite not being able to cast it himself, so playing around with alchemical potions is a fun alternative to him. Lucan is a sweetheart but also a bit mischievous at times as he really enjoys a good joke. He does not particularly enjoy The Game, but is decent at playing it if needed, and sometimes gives Anwen advice even though she already has Josie helping her with matters of diplomacy. He also readily offers to use Trevelyan connections for the Inquisition's benefit. Asherah Adaar is a reaver of the Valo-kas mercenary company. As I said her story is yet to be played, but I've planned for her to fall in love with Blackwall (a calming presence to balance her boldness and impulsiveness). The name Asherah is a sort of compromise, as I liked the default name Herah but didn't want to go with just that, so I added "ashe" at the beginning since it sounded good. However she often goes by just Herah for short (I don't want to shorten it to Ashe because I already have a Witcher OC by that name ^^")
As for my favorite, I really love all of them but Anwen is the one I've developed the most, so maybe she's my favorite, although I'm pretty fond of Lucan as well.
25. What's one thing you wish your Inquisitor could have done that wasn't an option? (e.g. become Divine, alternate romance, different quest outcome, different region map, etc.) I really wish we could have actually played the mission involving Clan Lavellan, instead of it being just a wartable operation. Like, if the Inquisitor has time to run around Orlais and Ferelden doing fetch quests, they have time to go help their family when they really need it. So I hc that Anwen refused to let others handle it and went there in person with a few people. While things didn't go quite as she wished, her clan was saved and that's the most important thing. I also really wished that Lace Harding would have been a full romance, but then again we are finally getting that in Veilguard so that's great ^^ If Harding had been an actual romance option in DAI I would have likely had Anwen pursue her and that would have been it, but as things were she romanced Josephine (which I loved! Josie is so sweet) and I headcanoned a polyamorous arrangement where Anwen is also with Harding, as I really loved the idea of them together. Another thing I would have wanted to be different was that quest in Exalted Plains where the only way to gain access to that old elven tomb is to desecrate elven graves to find the key. There's no way Anwen would do that. Of course the player doesn't need to enter that place unless you really want that mosaic piece, but I'm pretty much a completionist so I always have to work around that quest to get the loot without upsetting the elves. But still, I think it was a poor planning to design that quest in that way anyway, and I would have liked for there to have been an alternate route. For example, if you gain the trust of the Dalish, the Keeper could give you the key (maybe there would be another quest giving you a proper reason for entering Unadin Grotto in the first place, grave robbing is just not cool).

Asherah Adaar (pron. Az-er-ah) for thejbusition‘s OC Sharing Day!
For starters, Asherah is half Qunari-half Elf. Her father is a Qunari who fled the Qun with his first wife while she was pregnant with Asherah’s twin half-brothers, Anan and Tuor. The twins’ mother died in childbirth and their father tried to settle on a farm outside of Wycome in the Free Marches. It’s in Wycome where he met his second wife, an Elven woman. She helped raise his two Qunari sons and bore him two more children, Asherah and her younger brother, Oreyn (who turned out to be a mage).
Asherah’s father passed away when she was 20, and her mother fell ill shortly after. She and the twins decided to join a mercenary company to make more money to care for their mother. Oreyn stayed behind as he’s very skilled with healing and other practical magics.
During her time with the mercs, her naivety was sapped from her and she took to lying, stealing, and charming to get what she wanted. Beneath her grand façade, however, she’s still the same girl. Sometimes she lets her kind heart show when the need is great enough. Her shell is strong, but it’s got more than a few cracks. During the Inquisition, she definitely fully realizes who she truly is.
