Ascension: Year 2 Collector’s Edition (Storm of Souls & Immortal Heroes). I got out of CCGs just as foil chase cards were starting to be a thing - I think I still have a few from Decipher’s execrable Lord of the Rings game - so I’ve never gotten to actually play with this kind of shiny card 😄. The Ascension Collectors’ editions get marked down occasionally online and I’ve been able to get some of the older ones at pretty good prices by putting on a price drop alert at Miniature Market. I wouldn’t pay list for sure, but they’re very nice sets and have all the promos. The foil cards aren’t quite as usable as the standards ones (harder to read and shuffle) but they do look pretty cool 😄. I always felt like the year two sets were peak Ascension, but going back to them now after playing a bunch of Dreamscape, Gift of the Elements, and Delirium ... yeah, there are a *lot* of good Ascension sets. The only ones I’m not really a super fan of are Rise of Vigil, Valley of the Ancients, and Skulls & Sails, and even they’re OK. It really is impressive that 10 years later Ascension is not just still chugging along as one of the best games in this space, but has been often “imitated” but rarely have the imitators been even close to as good. It is still basically a 2 or 3 player game, but the Alliances expansion does have a really good team play mode. Hello so my name is Natalia and I know spanish and english, and I love the Ascension trilogy by Rinmarugames. I had already translated some parts of the first chapter for my friends, even thought I know its not the same as actually playing the game, but at least you guys can see what its about. So here it is! Ascension translated to spanish n.n 

I will try my best to keep translating the other 2 chapters but its going to get harder, they have more dialogue options and outcomes... Wish me luck!

The advantage of the more crazily chaotic incarnations of Ascension, like the recent Valley of the Ancients, is that your never out of it. Kim was off to a fairly decisive lead after a couple deck cycles, but in this game you’re only a couple lucky card flips and successful Rallies away from totally turning the game around. One of the drags of Dominion-style deck-builders (including Thunderstone) is that generally the outcome is pretty clear by the halfway point, so they need to stay really short and compact. In stuff based on Ascension, you can still see runaway games (like when someone really gets a Mechana construct engine cranking) but that’s the exception rather than the rule. It may not be intellectually satisfying to lose a game like that, but it’s emotionally satisfying to win it 😁 #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #ascensiongame #stoneblade

Trying out the Alliances mini-expansion with the Dreamscape base set for some 4-player team Ascension. It was really fun and exceeded expectations! Plus the rules are simple. It does amplify the luck element very slightly I think, so you probably would prefer to use it with one of the less-swingy base sets; probably not Rise of Vigil, Realms Unravelled, or Vally of the Ancients. Dreamscape worked quite well (it’s probably my favorite set), as would Storm of Souls or Gift of the Elements. Use just one base set. New Ascension set out for iOS today! My handle for GameCenter and PlayDek games is Gildenfire. Because of the new mixed-cost cards, this set is a lot easier to play on a tablet. If you had told me back when Chronicles of the Godslayer came out that I'd still be playing this regularly ten sets later, I'd have found that surprising. It's such a good game though and in general the sets have improved quite a bit with age (not sure about Rise of Vigil; but Dreamscapes was terrific). #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #ascensiongame
