Could you tell us more about Mikita? He’s such an interesting character to me, and all of your artwork of him is beautiful :)

youre in luck because hes my darling son and i love him dearly. the titular "ghost" of the attic; in reality hes just a slightly depressed and very bad at socializing teenager. very prone to isolation and the physical embodiment of loneliness (which, as i said before, is one of the main themes of the story!). I summarised his personality in one of the pictures below, so to share something new (this will be long and mostly backstory! sorry):

although he was born in a pretty well-off family somewhere in the Minsk governorate, he spent most of his childhood in a private school in Vilnius. Hes blind (as in, his sight is blurry, cannot see in the dark at all and glasses dont help, but can for example read if the letters are big enough) and was around 7 years old when starting school, and therefore required some assistance in a completly foreign city, which was provided to him by Apolonia, a former governess (not the right word but i havent seen any reliable translations; a governess was a private teacher after the age of 6/7. What i mean here is bona, a woman who was hired to take care of and properly raise children aged 3-7, while also being their (usually foreign language) teacher) of the house. Apolonia always was a mother figure to him, and those long years in Vilnius only brought them closer. She was also very active in the artistic, anti tsarist national and cultural liberation circles (it is the latter half of 19th century after all, and Apolonia herself was raised durning the january uprising), sharing and distributing illegal literature, which is what got her arrested (and, consequently, killed) in the end. Because of their close bond, Mikita took a lot of his traits after her, both in terms of personality (god was he unbearable at 14 but thats what happens when no one liked him for who he was and his peers bullied him, the only person he cared about actively put him above other children, isolating him in the process even more, and it all created this miserable circle of isolation for protection, geniuine hatered for the world and complete dependance on one person he was actively shown he was loved by) and general identity (both of them come from mixed/polonised belarusian families and consider themselves belarusian, which is very important to them, and his surname is actually her real surname, as both of them at some point began pretending that he is her actual son). In the end she died of sickness (which he theorized was caused by infection from injuries) in prison and Mikita was expelled from school for owning illegal literature and few other things at roughly the same time. Unwilling to go back "home", he took the opportunity at his mothers "funeral" - Artur and Eliza Kowalewicz, close friends of his mother, believing he just lost his only family member, offered to take him in to their family manor (though by polish terminology it should be called a palace), somewhere in the middle of nowhere in congress Poland, for as long as he needs.

Hideaki is walking through the mall, getting ready to go home, and a bright smile grows on his face when he sees a hoodie his size that immediately reminds him of his adorable little girlfriend.

“Miki would love this…” He murmurs to himself with a big smile.

The hoodie is dark purple and the hood has cat ears that would be perfect for keeping Mikitama’s little ears warm.

He checks the price and smiles. ‘Worth it for my Mikita.’ He thinks as he goes to pay for the hoodie.

After paying for the hoodie, Hideaki heads home and washes the hoodie then sprays some of his signature cologne on it so it would smell like him.

He giggles as he puts the gift in a place that he knows Mikitama would see it and take it from.

Hideaki knows she’ll ask before taking it, but he loves the way Mikitama’s eyes light up when she finds things that he left lying around for her to take.

His smile grows when he hears a soft knock on the door and he rushes to open it. “Hi Mikita!” He exclaims happily as he hugs her and lets in, smiling lovingly from the sound of her happy giggles.

“Hi Hide!” Mikitama responds happily then comes in, her eyes immediately going to the purple hoodie on the arm of the couch.

After a few minutes, when Mikitama thinks Hideaki isn’t watching her, she discreetly grabs the hoodie and smells it then starts purring from Hideaki’s pleasant scent lingering on the fabric.

Hideaki smiles softly as he discreetly watches Mikitama’s happy expression.

He walks over to her and hugs her from behind, slightly startling her. “Go ahead and take it, sweetheart..” He says softly, slightly tightening his arms around her small form.

“R-really.? I can take it..?” She asks shyly as she turns around in his arms and he smiles and nods.

“Of course, Mimi!” He says happily, brushing her hair away from her precious face.

His smile grows when Mikitama’s gorgeous eyes light up. “Thank you Hide..!” She says happily as she wraps her arms around him and he smiles brightly as she pulls away to put the large hoodie on.

Hideaki’s eyes sparkle with so much love and affection for Mikitama as he picks up the tiny yokai, bridal style, and kisses her nose, then her forehead, then her cheeks, and finally her soft lips.

Mikitama blushes brightly as she shyly kisses him back then when they gaze at each other lovingly.

“You’re so adorable, Mikita… I love you more than anything…” Hideaki says with a loving smile as he sits on the couch, holding Mikitama close, in his lap.

“I love you too, Hide…”

National Junk Food Day

Junk foods are usually, by definition, high in fats, sugars, salt, and calories. But more often than not, they are delicious! Junk food day is the perfect day to treat yourself. On Junk Food Day, you get to eat anything you want. Eat any amounts that you want, too. Tomorrow, however, it’s back to a healthy diet.

It doesn’t have to be candies either. Like bacon? Eat so much bacon! Like chili cheese dogs? Eat all the dogs you want. Onion rings, yes please. Pizza? Have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Junk Food Day is all about indulging in your favorites.

Please Note: Junk food may be hazardous to your health. After all, mom knows what’s best for you. Do so at your own risk. That risk includes having too much and Mom saying: “I told you so!”

Junk Food Day is a day that allows you to chow down on the foods that you usually would not. Junk foods, by their definition, tend to contain a lot of calories, salt, sugar, and fats, and they offer very nutritional value. You may think that it doesn’t do anyone any favors to have a day that is dedicated to junk food.

However, if you follow a healthy and balanced diet, there is nothing wrong with having one day of the year whereby you can eat anything that you want to. In fact, this is encouraged, because it means that you are more likely to eat healthily the rest of the time, right? Of course, it is up to you whether or not you decide to fully embrace Junk Food Day, but we know that we will be!

History of Junk Food Day

Upon searching for the history behind this food filled day, we found no information on the origin of this day. It was most likely created by a diet conscious individual or group who desired to eat junk food, without guilt, at least one day a year, sounds like a great idea to me. For it to become a “national” day it requires an act of congress. I don’t mind celebrating it anyway.

But, what about junk food? When did this start to come into our lives? Well, this coincides with the advent of packaged foods throughout the late 1900s. Of course, for decades, home-cooked meals were still the standard. However, after WW2, junk food really started to take off.

The population was traveling more and eating out more, and this resulted in fast food chains and the frozen food aisle really taking off. There were so many different foods for people to choose from. However, it was not until the 1970s that junk food started to get a bad name. This was when microbiologist, Michael Jacobson, actually coined the phrase. His aim was to try and curb our appetite for high preservative, high salt, and high sugar foods, which we were eating at a worrying rate.

Since then, there has been more knowledge and information about junk food, and a lot of food manufacturers have tried to make healthy versions of the junk food that we love the most! Nevertheless, if you have junk food now and again yet you generally maintain a healthy diet, it should not do you any harm! After all, we all deserve a treat now and again, right?

How to celebrate Junk Food Day

Celebrate this wonderful day by eating any sweet or salty treats you want! Bake cupcakes, make cookies, heat up some popcorn, buy some of your favorite candies. Invite friends over and have them bring in their favorites and make a junk food buffet and spend the rest of the day watching movies. You can always go get some fast food for fun. Take a cheat day from your diet and have dessert for dinner.

Consider trying some junk foods from other countries. Japan has a particular talent for making fun candy that you have to mix together. Look online to see if you can order special treats for the day. To name a few for you Korea has Cheong Woo Pumpkin Candy.

The Ukraine has Mr. Fizzy, a small hard candy that fizzes in your mouth. Columbia has Jet chocolates, a package of chocolates that also comes with a dinosaur sticker. Japan has Unican Mikita Melon Milk candy, a chewy candy with melon flavor. In Spain they have Violetas, sugar coated natural violets. In Poland they have a crunchy wafer-chocolate bar called Prince Polo made by Olza.

Another way that you can celebrate junk food is by creating your own versions of your favorite snacks. For example, instead of heading down to KFC, why not try making your own southern fried chicken? There are lots of great recipes online for junk food nowadays. In fact, you will see that there are some weird and wonderful creations, including different and unusual burger recipes and much more!

You may also want to decide to spend Junk Food Day with your friends. Why not host a junk food party? You can tell your friends that everyone has to bring carby and fatty foods. There are no green leafy foods allowed! Enjoy the day and indulge together. After all, it’s not like it is something that we all get to do all of the time, is it? So, you may as well make the most of it and indulge in those naughty foods. We won’t tell anyone!

i’m not sure what’s the point of me making this post, but i feel that if i don’t make it i will explode. lately i’ve been reading even more posts discussing the issue of restricting adult content in order to protect kids from accessing something they shouldn’t access. and even tho to my dash they usually get already filled with opinions and points from people with whom i agree, and they all explain their view of this issue in a wonderfully worded way, i still end up seething with rage, probably from the fact that this discourse even exist and cause there are people who still don’t get it, even after so many lengthy posts were written to explain why labeling stuff correctly and letting minors know this stuff right here isn’t for them is good, but censorship really isn’t. anyway i might even regret making this post later, but currently i’m literally seething so here it is.

you might also notice that all of these books are labeled as “18+”. you might wonder, why that? none of them contain anything explicit! (haven’t read darius and the days yet, but i have a funny feeling they also don’t contain anything too “scandalous”) they are all beloved ya novels that tell stories of teenagers or high school graduates going through their life journeys, emotional journeys, self-discovery, coming outs, coming-of-age. even the body horror in wilder girls has nothing on the shit that happens in warrior cats books that i read when i was 10 (and those are not labeled as inappropriate for kids btw). so why would they be labeled as 18+?

well i’ll tell you. they all in one way or another touch upon the topic of lgbt+. they all have characters, main or secondary, that are gay, trans, etc. these characters being queer isn’t even always the main point, i mean yeah, simon is about a journey of a closeted gay teenager, but in wilder girls they’re just trying to survive on an island with a deadly virus. yet they dare to be gay while doing so. 

well, you might ask, what about it? there is nothing 18+ about being gay

labeling these ya books as 18+ might be the only way for this publisher to sell them in every bookstore around the country with no issues. (there are of course other publishers that work with lgbt themed books, but all the books in this picture happen to be from popcorn books, an incredible russian publishing house, that’s doing god’s work this all the books they sell). all thanks go to the law against “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors“ that was passed in 2013. and while you might think that none of these book actively participate in so called propaganda, it’s just always better to be safe than sorry. (this is also probably the part of the post where i should specify, this is how i see the situation and this wasn’t outright stated by the publishing house itself, but in no point of time since the law was passed in 2013, would it be a smart move to announce proudly: “we’re labeling these books as 18+ even tho they’re not 18+ at all, because we don’t want to break a stupid law that makes no sense and is ruining people’s lives”)

the first book from this picture that i bought was simon, it was also one of the first books published by them. i was in my twenties already, definitely not a teenager. i also already read simon a couple of years before that happened, in english, on my phone. i was the happiest when i held it in my hands, when i took a subway train where i carefully peeled off the protective layer of plastic film, not meant to protect the book, but meant to protect the minors from taking a peek at the 18+ books, as all of them are covered in film when sold in bookstores. i cried at some random mention of simon being gay on one of the first pages, as i never expected to read that in russian translation.

thankfully, when you go to a bookstore, as well as a library, and buy books, no one asks for your passport. it doesn’t matter what you buy. and after all, you don’t even need to go to a bookstore, you can just order the books online. you can order directly from the publishing house too, no one will ask how old you are, and no one will stop you from taking the film off the book once you own it.

but you can lock the books away. create a separate section for adult content. make cashiers in bookstores always ask for your passport when you buy books like that. make them not sell books like that to you if you’re under 18. these? these will also end up being locked away. the kids that just want to read about other kids like them will have to find loopholes to maybe somehow get them on the internet or ask somebody else to buy them, if they even have anyone to ask. or they might not even find out that books like these exist. but at least they’ll be safe, right?

you might say, “well, there is no such stupid law in MY country, it wouldn’t happen here”. all while there probably was such stupid law in your country like 10-15 years ago, and you just conveniently forgot, because you live in a bubble. and besides, if bookstores and libraries and websites will start locking books and other things away based on them being inappropriate for kids, who will be in charge of deciding what’s inappropriate? do you trust the judgment of your government? is its judgment of what’s right and what’s wrong perfect? maybe corporations’ judgement is? or maybe yours? what if the people in charge will decide that something that you deem appropriate actually isn’t and lock it away? at what point protecting the children turns into censorship in your eyes? and at what point the realization will come that there are no safe dosages of censorship that are okay, if it’s to create a safe space, if it’s for the “greater good”. there is no line you can cross, if the line just doesn’t exist.

Day Four - Before the Protocol 1/2

This is technically still set in the present because they are talking about Lumino before the protocol so I think it fits.

No one spoke, no one had to as Lumino glares at the other end of the room. Sova and Sage were sitting next to them trying to calm them down to some degree but they waved them both off. Chamber and Viper sat at the other end of the room clueless as to why Lumino their normally joyful but aggressive teammate glared daggers at them. 

“Lumino I don’t know why you called us here but surely there’s some logical conclusion to whatever has made you so angry.”

“You know Sabine, I would’ve thought so too, but when teammates keep secrets its kind of hard.”

“Mon amie we’ve never kept secrets from you, or I haven’t at-”

Lumino wasted no time in getting up and striding over to Chamber and once they had gotten close enough they slapped him. Leaving a large red mark on his cheek and tilting his glasses.

“Shut the fuck up Vincent..”

Sova looks from Sage to Lumino and then back to Sage as he tries his best to see what could have possibly caused one of the people he cares for most to act so aggressively. “Милая (Milaya) surely we can talk this out.” Lumino looks back at Sova the tears at the corners of her eyes threatening to spill out “The time for talking was ages ago and they said nothing so now it’s my turn to let off some steam. I have all these years of anger and now it’s finally going to serve a purpose.”

“I suppose this is a bad time.” Cypher looms in the entryway of the door. Lumino shakes their head and Cypher steps forward and hands Lumino a bundle of documents with the Kingdom symbol adorning the front. “You’re fine Cypher I needed these to prove my point anyways.” They turn back around and walk back up to Chamber, his eye went wide as he saw the documents. Viper tensed in her seat. 

“Let’s start with you Vincent since you seemed to know who I was from the start and said nothing. And don’t even try to chalk it up to you just assuming. I saw those emails with you and Cypher.”

“Damn rat, knew I couldn’t trust him.”

“Ileana Ardelean. Does that name ring any bells to you because all these pictures seem to paint a good picture.”

Lumino snarls and talks a few photos from the bundle and throws them onto the table. Two figures stood together in the photos, one being a younger chamber from his days in the French military, the other being Ileana Ardelean. “She was a radiant who worked rather closely with you during your time in the military. Tell me where is she now?”

“She’s gone, or rather, I thought she was gone until you showed up. It’s been a while mon amour.” Vincent looked up at them in hopes of gaining a bit of sympathy but he instead for Lumino’s cold gaze staring back. 

“I’m not your lover Vincent, and even if I used to be. That died with Ileana because my name is Mikita now and I will not go by anything else.”

“But I would certainly love to know why you didn’t stop me from trusting Kingdom.”

“You were a headstrong person, you still are it seems. So nothing I said could have changed your mind. Once they said the research they were doing could save the lives of millions you hoped onto it. You left the same day, I only got to see you as you were leaving our apartment in La Rochelle. I doubt even the ring would’ve stopped you.” He looks down as Lumino’s gaze softens only a little bit. Viper had turned her head in surprise and Sage had to keep Sova from getting up and demanding his own answers.

“You were going to- ” Lumino’s voice cracked and Chamber decided to cut them off to answer “Yes, I was planning on proposing. But that’s all in the past now. I threw it away in a drunken stupor, once they announced your death.” 

Lumino sighs trying to regain a bit of composure as they turned to Viper “I guess that’s where you can start now Sabine. You weren’t directly involved in the experiments that killed my double but you sure as hell know a lot about the night it happened.”

Viper doesn’t even try and deny anything as she nods “One of the assistant scientists had gotten sick that day, they had asked me to come in as a replacement. You won’t believe me when I say this Lumino but, I didn’t want to carry out the things they made me do I only did it to keep my job.”

“Keep your job! Do I need to read off the things that you and all those other idiots did to ruin my life? I COULD’VE BEEN NORMAL IF IT WASN’T FOR YOU!” The tears rolled down their face as they screamed looking down at Viper. The silence that hung in the room gave Lumino their answer as they began to read. “Electrocution of double and person, use of radiant abilities on double, showing person their double being tortured, being tortured in front of your double, forcible blinding of double, branding of person and double. And the list goes on for a page and a half, I always wondered why I had this, guess I know now.” Lumino pulls down part of their shirt to reveal the Kingdom logo scarred onto the skin. 

“I just wanna know why. Were they even doing research? Or was it just an excuse to hurt people? My double never did anything to deserve the things done to them. It’s why I put them out of their misery, wasn’t it.”

Sabine just nods “You saw what we had done to them, and you were furious so you asked their permission and end their life before anyone could come in and stop you from doing anything else. They sent me in to put you to sleep, I was simply doing what I was told. You were a bright young person Lumino, you both were, I’m sad it ended up like this.” Lumino shook their head as they started to cry. Sage left her spot next to Sova to hug them whispering sweet nothings in their ear that only seemed to make them cry more. 

After Lumino got the courage to speak they looked back at Chamber and Viper “I want you both to know that I don’t forgive any of your actions. I might not ever forgive you. I need time to process all this, see whatever family I actually have left, and see what can be done to bring this bullshit to someone who can actually do something.” They laughed quietly “It’s kinda funny that the one person everyone told me not to trust helped me the most. Cypher helped me when you both could’ve simple spoke to me and that sickens me to think about.” 

Sova promptly gets up and walks over to Lumino and Sage, picking them up as they continued to softly cry then he spoke up “I hope you two think about your action’s. I think we should get going now.” With that, the two walked out the door with Lumino in hand. Leaving them alone in a room with that bundle of papers still strewn around the table in the centre. Viper gets up first looking over the pictures, smiling carefree faces in all of them as Viper sighs, rubbing her temple and mumbling to herself “This is why I left that wretched place.” before leaving the room. 

Chamber leans back in his chair, taking his wallet out of his back pocket and looking at the now crumpled picture of him and Ileana leaning into each other as they slow danced. In one of the only times, Chamber remembered smiling. “Maybe if I had told you sooner mon chouchou I could’ve held you in my arms…

The scene opens with Swift in her trailer bed and shows a sign that says “I am a rich man” which Swift probably painted herself. She is quite the artist after all! Some people speculate that it could be an upcoming song title, but we are more inclined to believe that it is a nod to Cher’s quote about not needing a man when her mother tells her she needs to settle down and marry a rich man, to which Cher replies, “I am a rich man.” Cher also has a trans son, Chaz so her inclusion of a Cher quote seems to fit the theme of the video well. Cher also posted a photo of the painting to which Swift replied she cannot calm down about. So we are now convinced this was the meaning behind the painting.

Some might be confused by her inclusion of this quote as Swift has been in a relationship for the past 2.5 years with actor Joe Alwyn. However, we tend to think it was included because Swift got so much hate for her relationships over the years, which included her using men for song material and not being able to be alone. Cher goes on to express that she loves men, she thinks they are great, but that she doesn’t need a man. That is an important point to make because our partners should compliment us and make us better, but we should also be confident in who we are and be able to stand on our own two feet. So, although we may not need them in our life, we still want them. This seems like a nod to the haters that Swift doesn’t actually need to be in a relationship, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be in one.

Swift’s trailer then begins to burn. The exact meaning is left up to interpretation, our best guess is that even when there is all this negativity around her, she is now unphased and is then seen lounging in her pool as her “former world” burns around her. She then goes out, gets her hair dyed to the colors of the Bi flag and joins her LGBTQ friends, fighting along side them for equal rights, instead of staying in her safe cotton candy land where everyone is taking shots. It’s her turn to speak up.

We do want to stress that although this song is fighting for the LGBTQ community, it also includes other aspects of haters, people being too loud and needing to calm down about things (such as pitting women against each other and spewing hate online). Swift shared about writing the song on a Spotify panel saying:

I wrote this song about the energy that some people put into spreading negativity. With all the trolling, cancel culture, telling people how to live their lives of pitting women against each other… you’re being too loud. This is a song where I’m just saying ‘You Need To Calm Down.” Go outside. It’s the summer.”

Most of the guests who appear in the video identify with the LGBTQ community. There are a few who do not, which made us wonder why they were chosen to be involved. Sure, Swift is good pals with Ryan Reynolds, but in a video and song promoting LGBTQ, there had to be a deeper meaning. That lead to some investigating and although Reynolds himself does not identify within the LGBTQ community, he is still a strong advocate and supporter of the community, even going so far as to help create the first superhero movie where the superhero, aka Deadpool, appears pansexual.

In an article with Vanity Fair, the Deadpool comic co-creator, Fabian Nicieza, has been asked about the character’s sexuality and says all are accurate because the character is constantly in flux. “He can be gay one minute, hetero the next, etc. ALL ARE VALID.”

Reynolds has also voiced his support for years for same-sex marriage. He appears in the “You Need To Calm Down” video as a painter, he also paints in a teaser trailer for Deadpool 3. Reynolds is constantly promoting his movie in the strangest places, even showing up on stage in heels with Celine Dion! In the video, he is not just painting something random, he is painting The Stonewall Inn, where Swift just gave a surprise performance at Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s show, commemorating its 50th anniversary.

The numbers 5 and 0 also appear in the video. The Stonewall Inn is a landmark and birthplace of the Gay Rights Movement. Also to those wondering about the dice that appear in the video. Some speculate they also lead up to the number 50. We’ve seen other numbers, but it depends on how you count the dice based on how they are angled.

Ferguson also appears in the video with his real-life husband, Justin Mikita. In the video they are getting married and the one officiating the wedding is none other than Ciara. Although she has a strong LGBTQ fanbase, we had to do a little more digging to see why she was included in the video as well. What we found was mind-blowing. Did you know that Ciara was planning on getting married in North Carolina but moved her wedding location after they passed the House Bill 2, which bans transgender people from using the restroom of the gender they identify with? So now here she is officiating a gay wedding! Talk about a full circle moment!

She’s extremely loyal and absolutely won’t hesitate to stand up for others and what she believes in. This said she can also be very confrontational. If she’s truly desperate she goes from lawful neutral to chaotic good real fast.

I wish I could have a conversation with my 12 year old self. 🐾 Thankfully most of us have learned that declawing a cat is NOT ok. It’s not even a little bit ok. But I don’t like shaming people into agreeing with me. We can’t do better if we don’t understand. Because many people now see that declawing is a very painful and unnecessary amputation, people’s minds, like mine, can be changed. Change is good! As Martha Stewart has said, “When you’re through changing, you’re through.” 🐾 The truth is, many cats who have been declawed seem fine. Cats are great at hiding pain and discomfort. They may seem fine but declawing a cat robs them of so much. The way a cat’s claws retract, stretch and scratch a post is an obvious indication of how good it feels! There are some terrible complications that can happen with a declaw, but most of the time, we’re just stealing a part of them for our own benefit. Why? Because we love our couch more? Because we don’t want to get scratched? It isn’t our right to take away their claws. Tanjiro hasn’t celebrated his birthday since before the incident with his family, so he isn’t expecting what his girlfriend, Mikitama, has in store for him.

He has a calm smile as he walks up the path to the Starlight Estate.

Mikitama rushes around her Estate, making sure everything is perfect.

She had prepared everything the day before, even asking her older brother, Michio, to take Tanjiro’s missions, which he happily obliged.

~flashback~

“Oh? Of course I can! Tanjiro is one of my best friends, so I want him to have an amazing birthday!” Michio says happily then pats Miki on her head.

The small yokai’s eyes light up and she hugs her big brother. “Thank you so much, Michi..! Y-you’re the best..!” Mikitama responds sweetly and he smiles as he hugs her back.

~end of flashback~

Mikitama goes to the door and opens it when Tanjiro knocks.

He blushes and smiles when he sees the beautiful kimono Mikitama is wearing.

“Happy birthday, Tanji..!” She says happily as she hugs him and hugs her back, holding her closer.

“Thank you, angel!” He says with a bright smile and kisses her forehead, making her blush and he giggles when he sees this.

They pull away and Mikitama takes his hand and brings him inside.

She leads him to the dining room and sits him down before going to the kitchen to get the plum kombu she had made earlier.

When she comes back, Tanjiro smiles brightly. “Aww thank you, mochi!” He exclaims before bringing her into his lap. “You’re the best, I love you so much Mikita…” He says as he pulls her in for a gentle kiss, which she reciprocates immediately while blushing brightly.

“O-of course, Tanji… You made my birthday so special and memorable… I wanted to do the same for you…” She says shyly and he starts eating with a smile once she finishes talking.

“This is so delicious, my kitten!” He says with a big smile.

“I’m so glad you like it..!” Miki says with her usual sweet smile.

After the two of them finish eating, Miki asks Tanjiro to cover his eyes.

He’s quick to comply and he hears the sound of Mikitama’s soft steps as she exits the room, returning moments later along with the sound of a bag rustling.

She puts the bag in his lap. “O-okay, you can look now…” She says softly, the scent of anxiety radiating off of her along with her usual scent of strawberries.

Tanjiro uncovers his eyes and looks down at the gift bag in his lap. “Aww you didn’t have to get me anything, angel!”

“I-I know… b-but I wanted to… I-I made it myself…” She says shyly and he smiles brightly and hugs her.

“Then I’m sure I’ll love it, Mika…” He says softly with a reassuring smile then opens the present after Miki pulls away.

He gasps and smiles brightly as he pulls out his newly recovered, signature black and green haori.

Tanjiro puts on the warm garment before hugging Mikitama tightly. “Thank you so much, Mimi! I love it so much!”

The little yokai starts purring as she clings to him. “You’re welcome, Tanji… Happy birthday…”

Tanjiro pulls her closer as he notices her sleepiness.

“Thank you for the best birthday ever, my sweet angel…”

Upon searching for the history behind this food filled day, we found no information on the origin of this day. It was most likely created by a diet conscious individual or group who desired to eat junk food, without guilt, at least one day a year, sounds like a great idea to me. For it to become a “national” day it requires an act of congress. I don’t mind celebrating it anyway.

But, what about junk food? When did this start to come into our lives? Well, this coincides with the advent of packaged foods throughout the late 1900s. Of course, for decades, home-cooked meals were still the standard. However, after WW2, junk food really started to take off.

The population was traveling more and eating out more, and this resulted in fast food chains and the frozen food aisle really taking off. There were so many different foods for people to choose from. However, it was not until the 1970s that junk food started to get a bad name. This was when microbiologist, Michael Jacobson, actually coined the phrase. His aim was to try and curb our appetite for high preservative, high salt, and high sugar foods, which we were eating at a worrying rate.

Since then, there has been more knowledge and information about junk food, and a lot of food manufacturers have tried to make healthy versions of the junk food that we love the most! Nevertheless, if you have junk food now and again yet you generally maintain a healthy diet, it should not do you any harm! After all, we all deserve a treat now and again, right?

How to celebrate Junk Food Day

Celebrate this wonderful day by eating any sweet or salty treats you want! Bake cupcakes, make cookies, heat up some popcorn, buy some of your favorite candies. Invite friends over and have them bring in their favorites and make a junk food buffet and spend the rest of the day watching movies. You can always go get some fast food for fun. Take a cheat day from your diet and have dessert for dinner.

Consider trying some junk foods from other countries. Japan has a particular talent for making fun candy that you have to mix together. Look online to see if you can order special treats for the day. To name a few for you Korea has Cheong Woo Pumpkin Candy.

The Ukraine has Mr. Fizzy, a small hard candy that fizzes in your mouth. Columbia has Jet chocolates, a package of chocolates that also comes with a dinosaur sticker. Japan has Unican Mikita Melon Milk candy, a chewy candy with melon flavor. In Spain they have Violetas, sugar coated natural violets. In Poland they have a crunchy wafer-chocolate bar called Prince Polo made by Olza.

Another way that you can celebrate junk food is by creating your own versions of your favorite snacks. For example, instead of heading down to KFC, why not try making your own southern fried chicken? There are lots of great recipes online for junk food nowadays. In fact, you will see that there are some weird and wonderful creations, including different and unusual burger recipes and much more!

You may also want to decide to spend Junk Food Day with your friends. Why not host a junk food party? You can tell your friends that everyone has to bring carby and fatty foods. There are no green leafy foods allowed! Enjoy the day and indulge together. After all, it’s not like it is something that we all get to do all of the time, is it? So, you may as well make the most of it and indulge in those naughty foods. We won’t tell anyone!
