the thing is yeah i may bang on and on about how much i cannot stand post-2013 les amis fanon and this has forever tainted my ability to Be A Fan of specifically the les amis side of les mis. but that will never change the fact that enjolras will ALWAYSSSS be That Girl to me and i'll tell you why. it is because before ANYTHING else i am a whumper i am a hurt/comforter i am an enjoyer of stoic brave characters getting completely broken down into sobbing messes and enjolras is MADE FOR THAT!!!! like ohhh he's basically marble he doesn't care about anything but revolution he's an awe inspiring greek statue of a man to everyone around him half of his friends probably believe he doesn't actually need to eat drink sleep etc and he definitely believes that when there are more important things to be done, which there always are, because the world hasn't changed yet and it is his full time 24/7 vocation to make sure it does. and then he endures 24 hours of pure unadulterated nonstop trauma and in the book he cries a single perfect tear at a climactic moment and in the movie aaron tveit makes sure every damn time you're looking at this man outside of the immediacy of Leader Mode he looks like some kid's sad lost stuffed animal who got dropped in a puddle somewhere and it is sooooo close to the perfect catharsis of a glorious sobbing breakdown but you never quite get there. and i will tell you for free that there used to be a thriving market for this... you could not move on livejournal or fanfiction.net for fics where enjolras endured such preposterous overwraught traumas that 99% of it was grossly ooc and i did not care. i was eating that shit UP i had a sickfic where enjolras faints mid argument with grantaire printed out and kept in a folder beside my bed so i could read it every night. and i will also tell you why i have such a double standard for Overblown Whump OOC Enjolras and Regular Fanon OOC Enjolras and that is yes, partly because of my own preferences, but also because at least Whump OOC Enjolras feels born out of love for the character as opposed to love for a set of incorrect quote archetypes. anyway what was the point of this. we need to write more enjolras whump again. that was it

Yk what I want? I want a very early stages post canon labrumisu, but from Chilchuck's POV.
Imagine mister 'interparty romance is the devil' visiting court just to see these three circling each other like a pack of uniquely unhinged cats. And of course he sees it immediately, he's nothing if not perceptive and he's seen this happen so, so many times before. Kabru is hardly subtle in his fascination with Laios, who trusts him in turn more than nearly anybody else. He can see how close Mithrun and Kabru still are, even when there's little reason for the former captain to even stay in Melini. He can see where this is going. And he can see the disaster it's gonna end up in.
So he's just staring at them in horror, trying to figure out what in the world the dynamic here even is and glaring daggers at Kabru all the while for seemingly being the linchpin of this entire bullshit situation. King, his adviser and a fucking foreign noble?? Who thought THAT was a good idea! Is nobody else seeing this?? (no lol) Why is nobody objecting to this politically unsound love triangle that could literally ruin the kingdom they've only just established??
The anger! The distress! The despair when he first sees Laios getting all giddy when Mithrun so much as talks to him. Because hell, now he can't even blame the entire situation on one pretty boy insisting on having fingers in every possible pie, on political and personal level both!
And then they just. Quietly get together. All three of them. And Chil's just watching from the sidelines in complete bafflement because he's invented infinite worst case scenarios for how this will implode in all of their faces and destroy their friend group and topple the entire country and--
Instead they do. This. He'd be relieved if he wasn't so goddamn mad that he's spent months worrying about this shit just for them to resolve it in the least dramatic way possible.
Fuck this, he's taking a holiday.

not to ramble about iwtv but i think a lot of people who balk at the unsavory parts of gothic fiction are people who have either 1) never truly had to face an onslaught of the macabre in their own life 2) have not actually sat with the discomfort of the darker parts of existence or simply not learned or had to learn how to process truly twisted emotions within themselves. and i bring this up in relation to iwtv because i see a lot of people pointing out 'problematic' parts of the book or bemoaning which ships are more or less toxic. and it's like it's a cow farm there's gonna be cows on the cow farm.
yeah anne rice wrote some weird shit and some of it is definitely unnecessary, most of those elements were corrected in the show. but a lot of it is just gothic fiction. you don't get to have sexy vampires, romanticism and tortured yearning without the inappropriate attachments, the true face of grief and the blurred lines between violence and eroticism which has evoked great interest in humans for centuries.

i think it’s far funnier to believe sweet dee is named that ironically than some “it was unironic before she hit her head and changed her personality” bullshit
i love the idea of her being a little terror at 7 years old (i KNOW those twins were hell to babysit) and earning the nickname out of pure evilness
“what cute kids you have, that little blonde girl is so sweet!” meanwhile dee is setting a squirrel on fire in the backyard because dennis thought it was cute

You ever come up with a story concept and think oh this is brilliant, this is so good, this is so clever, I'm a genius, people will love this, and you brainstorm and you outline and you create a whole host of details about it, but also you... don't want to write it, not in a "I dislike writing" or "I want someone/something else to write this" type way, but in a "I love and enjoy this concept and want to be the one to execute it if it ever comes to pass, and yet this story/genre just isn't really me" way, like this is good but I'm not the one to do it, but also I'm the only one to do it, it's mine

do you think louis chose/believed armand over claudia in the scene after armand threatens and chokes her? i was under the impression that louis reflexively disagreed with claudia because he didn't want to believe it, but the fact that he also reflexively lit armand's photo on fire makes me think his response to claudia ("he wouldn't do that"/"sit in your choice") was a denial of the real horror he was feeling, that he did believe her and just wished it wasn't true. i rewatched that scene and when he notices the picture is on fire, he waits a second before putting it out, which makes me think his commitment to armand following this scene wasn't out of genuine love, but a strategic choice made out of fear, the same way he martyred himself for lestat to turn claudia. i still see people talking about how much louis and armand did love each other, and i was briefly convinced when madeline called it out (though that scene also contains claudia thanking armand for not treating her like a child, so the legitimacy of the entire scene is thrown into question imo). but after rewatching the season, i don't think they were that devoted to each other. between the actors deliberately playing their flirtations super awkward, the fact that louis never commits until armand threatens claudia and his commitment itself following louis' pattern of chaining himself to his current lover/shark for claudia's survival (a pattern the show goes out of its way to emphasize with lestat's retelling of her turning), and the fact that armand apparently did choose the coven over louis...idk. maybe i'm biased and just sick of the idea that armand and louis' love is some torrid gothic romance when it seems clear that louis and armand's insistence that it was in dubai is deliberately at odds with what we saw, despite how hard they were trying to make it seem that way. even the way they gassed up their first meeting felt staged, and if we're supposed to understand that louis and armand's growing physical distance in dubai denotes emotional/romantic distance as louis' memories are restored, it seems in line to realize that the distance isn't what's new, nor is the performance of love; it's the realization that it is a performance. SORRY this got long, i feel like i'm going a little crazy because i feel the show is saying the exact opposite to much of the analysis on here. in a way i would love to be convinced towards a different perspective because then i could just relax
no i agree with you completely ur not insane and neither am i.... i havent watched that episode in a while but the way the events are sequenced it's not even ambiguous--the relationship with armand is strategic and it has been since the beginning. like i dont think louis's "he wouldn't do that" is even a denial of the kind of person armand is. Bc in the previous episode armand literally almost killed louis for the same secret he's just threatened claudia about. so why would he actually disbelieve her? (laying it out like this i'm realizing why the victim blaming interpretation of louis as ditzy is so prevalent lol.) his frustration reads to me like: i've already sacrificed my freedom and happiness so you can join the coven that you love so much, and now you're saying you don't like the coven? you can't tough it out and trust i have armand handled? the disbelief in "he wouldn't do that" is not that louis wants to believe armand is a better person; it's that louis wants to believe his control over armand is more complete, bc otherwise claudia is right and his sacrifices are doubly pointless. this is the same pattern we saw with louis and his siblings as a human--telling grace to worry about herself, telling lestat how they were four months from bankruptcy; he takes pains to keep them ignorant but then is frustrated they wont register his sacrifice; they see it as him pushing them away (literal knife to paul's throat). louis starting to burn the photograph is him giving up--claudia is ungrateful; this task is impossible. but then the dream lestat which is ofc just louis calls claudia "our daughter" and that's when louis stops burning the photograph of armand. at the reminder that no matter how he tries to accept her as grown and autonomous, she's his child first. and then you can see him double down and regroup--get rid of ghost lestat indulgence to commit fully to companionship with as much control as he can leverage

An observation:
Nahyuta has spent so many years unthinkingly and unquestioningly doing other people's bidding that he has become completely out of touch with his own wants and needs, straight up ignoring his feelings and overworking himself because he's used to it, and others don't realise his behaviour is a cry for help because he's so stoic and expressionless
When Athena was younger she had trouble identifying and expressing her emotions, so she was given Widget as a means to understand her feelings and convey them to those around her, allowing her to deal with her trauma in a healthier manner and get help from others when she needed it
Conclusion:
Nahyuta with a widget. please. it would be so freaking funny. please

in light of monsterfucker!noel... what if john gets a human body but sometimes turns into a Creature. what if john hides it from his boyfriends because in his head it's just proof that he'll always be a monster. what if oscar is the one who eventually finds out. what if john is fully convinced that oscar's just trying to work out how to tell arthur and noel so they can all leave john. what if oscar is actually busy carefully engineering a way for noel to find out about monster!john.
(lbr oscar is thrilled when he pulls that off. making john more comfortable/a lot less ashamed of himself would have been more than enough for him, but noel's impossible to shop for gifts for and oscar's been wracking his brain trying to come up with a birthday present for him...)
sharing this after like a week because I accidentally made a 14 page comic sorta inspired by this so uh

thinking about the truman show again bc like it's a great film with great social commentary etc but also i have so many questions about the worldbuilding. and not in a cinemasins "this could never happen in real life so i refuse to suspend my disbelief" way but moreso in a the world presented in the truman show is so complex that there's so much implied that isn't part of the narrative but is still compelling to think about way
like i'm just thinking about how the movie states that truman has lived in this false reality all his life from his literal infancy through adulthood, "i was watching when you took your first steps" etc. and like we can debate how compelling the program would even be for the first 1-2 years it was on since it would just be watching a baby sitting around and doing nothing. like babies are adorable and there's a certain novelty to the premise especially since the film predates the internet, but as exciting as it would be to watch baby truman's first steps or whatever like 99% of the footage would not be these milestones so they'd be boring as hell
but that got me thinking: how would the show even be constructed while truman was a literal baby with no awareness of reality at all? like when he's an adult of course they have to manufacture this entire fake reality with family members, friends and neighbors, and rules to this world that keep him from finding out anything was up, but you would barely have to put in that kind of effort for a baby so they could easily just phone it in, but then again if there's a drastic change in the environment once truman is say 4 or 5, he might not know what exactly is up but he'd know something is up
so what i'm saying is: in the world of the truman show, would truman's baby years just be basically an entirely scripted show starring the actors playing his parents who just happen to have a literal baby on set at all times in case he reaches a developmental milestone, and that they have to take care of knowing someday he's gonna develop consciousness inside of this fake reality? what makes that different from any other tv show where the adult characters have a baby aside from the fact that real-world tv shows aren't imprisoning this infant in a false reality being like "oh shit we're gonna have to start gaslighting him someday but rn he doesn't even know what his hands are"

I have just discovered the offensive reality of straight people A/B/O through Bridgerton fanfics—truly a misogynistic patriarchal reinforcement of gender stereotypes that horrifies me to my soul.
Straight people should not have access to this trope, they have no concept of how to use it. Like, if you’re determined to do a “family legacy” thing for the Bridgertons, they’re all horny Omegas looking for love.
However, if we’re being more INTERESTING with it:
Simon/Daphne should be Beta/Omega, and you could use Simon being a Beta to play into his daddy issues.
Kate/Anthony is Alpha/Alpha, anyone who tries to make Kate an Omega is out of their fucking minds. Also, that is a woman who wants to fuck her husband, let’s be so for real.
Penelope/Colin would be the actual Alpha/Omega dynamic but Pen is obviously the Alpha. Colin wants to be good for her SO BAD. I don’t make the rules. (Except I DO and I’M RIGHT).
John/Francesca are a couple of autistic Betas who just want the crazy Alphas and Omegas to leave them out of their messy drama so they can be quiet nerds together.
As for Eloise and Benedict, there’s a few options.
Eloise as an Alpha or Omega can be used to explore how that effects her as a woman in 19th century regency who feels like she SHOULD be able to do the same things as her brothers but is restricted either bc she’s a girl (Alpha) or bc she’s an Omega, and how that’s affected by her internalized misogyny (against omega girls for example). Could also contribute to her and Pen’s friendship dynamics—if she’s an Alpha, as a bonding point for not quite fitting, but if she’s an Omega you can make it a like she thinks Pen being an Alpha is cool/is envious of her.
Benedict I feel like you could argue for any secondary gender and make it interesting, cause that’s the kind of character he is. But I think most interesting would be making him a Beta to really play into the way he’s trying to find his place without having a set role in his family.
Have I put way to much thought into this? No, I literally came up with this as soon as I thought about it, it’s so easy and way more interesting than “the boys are alphas and the girls are good little omegas bc i hate queer people and prefer to write boring uninteresting worlds and dynamics and fetishize terrible gender stereotypes”.
The only way ur allowed to use A/B/O for het couples is if ur messing with the secondary gender shit. Otherwise it just feels inherently misogynistic and homo-and-transphobic to me.
