oh dear god has my totk theory breached containment
#getting an influx of comments rn and. ugh.#sigh. i don't want to respond to anyone directly because that rarely ends well for me.#but let's think logically about the writing process for a second. let's think about chekhov's gun.#why the hell would they write in a specific past hero and princess if they were not going to use that specific past iteration. why.#why would it make any sense to go back any further than the very clear anchor in time botw gives us with the ancient sheikah and that hero#as writers they want to make things easily understandable. they want it to MAKE SENSE. randomly throwing players around the timeline withou#an anchor doesnt make any sense. which is WHY we have the anchor of 10k years ago set up so early in botw. the payoff will come in totk.#also why the hell would ganon make 2 seperate calamities. why would the first one not just be the human ganon. just. ugh#nvm im rapidly losing plausible deniability about what comment this is about i should shut the fuck up#personal

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN BOTW AND TOTK ARE NOT PART OF THE ENTIRE ZELDA TIMELINE?????????????!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
THE IMPLICATIONS
NINTENDO
WHY
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHJHKKHSSHOGFGHALRGYIUO;AREWHGFKJAER
So starting with skyward sword. if that never happend for botw, then how the hell do we have the reincarnation cycle?!
where does the ceramony scene in botw and aoc come from?!
"Hero of Hyrule... Chosen by The Sword That Seals the Darkness. You have shown unflinching bravery and skill in the face of darkness and adversity. And have proven yourself worthy of the Blessings of The Goddess Hylia. Whether Skyward bound, adrift in time, or steeped in the glowing embers of twilight, The sacred blade is forever bound to the soul of the hero. We pray for your protection, and we hope that.. we hope that the two of you will grow stronger together as one. Forged in the long distant past, The Sword That Seals the Darkness. Guardian of Hyrule, ancient steel, forever bound to the hero. In the name of The Goddess Hylia, I bless you and your Chosen Hero. Over the seas of time and distance, when we need the golden power of the Goddess, our hope rests in you, to be forever by the Hero's side. Again, we pray, that the two of you will be stronger, together, as one."
WE ARE DEALING WITH 4-5 SEPERATE TIMELINES HERE
Cause there skyward sword, four swords, and ocarina of time
Which then branches into the adult, child, and fallen timelines respectively
Which gives us the Heros of Legend and Hyrule from the fallen timeline, the Heros of Time and Twilight from the child timeline and the Hero of the Wind from the adult timeline.
Depending whether you view it as a canon game or not (i do, and for the purposes of this, i will be using it) the Hero of Warriors (hyrule warriors) reunited the timelines when Cia decided to break reality
It has been assumed by most, that the Hero of the Wild/Tears came after these events, with Age of Calamity being seperate, but it now has me wondering if AoC is part of the original timeline, with the goddeses stepping in with the events of botw and completely divorcing them from the original to make sure that the calamity would be contained no matter what. And completely rewriting that hyrule's history to do so, making sure there was some continuity in the new timeline by providing totk as a origin story.
Or was Botw always seperate, meaning there was a whole different set of the heros of the past than who was in the games, leaving AoC as a fifth timeline, branching with the calamity's defeat.

These are some old designs from a year ago for my Au call the corruption of amphibia. I made this au back in 2020 but ditch it after awhile.
Description:
It all began from True Colours. With the box destroyed during Anne's and Andreas's fight, it unleashed the gems power to the Calamity trio as they were linked to the gems. Their bodies became corrupted from the sheer power they received in that instant, insighting a war shortly after.
Five years later and the trio have seperated, but remained trapped in Amphibia. Marcy is left alone in hiding after the deaths of Olivia and Yunnan, but learned how to use the dark arts and fight in close combat. Marcy regrets everything, feeling guilty for everything that happened as she was the reason for everyone being trapped in Amphibia. Her priority is to get herself and her friends back to Earth and does all she can, even if it will take many more years to do so.
Sasha is fighting alongside Grime in the Great Amphibian War, often using her time to reflect on how she treated her friends during those five years. She feels horrible that she mistreated her friends in the past, but understands that too much of time has passed to do anything even if she still cares about them.
After the beginning of the war, Anne and the Planters returned back to Wartwood. They had to retreat underground in order to keep them and the rest of the town safe. Anne was not the same after her return, unable to comprehend that her closest friends betrayed her, both of them on the same day... And it fucked her up... a lot...

I was reading all the lore books of the Xianzhou for fic research and one volume in particular, Glimpses into the beyond, has my brain running circles, so why not share my notes
It's a manuscript written by Fu Xuan, touching on divination and Aeons
I loved this quote: "Humans walk the Paths, while stars cross the sky: Observing these situations can produce future predictions. All of this is based on the diviner's ascertainment of the present situation (or the past, because the present is constantly becoming the past)."
Implied that diviners must stay constantly in tune with the present lest they loose their footings
Mentions the founder of the Divination Commission, a master Xuan Yao, who said "Only the universe and the Aeons cannot be foretold."
Fu Xuan writes that the universe birthed the Aeons, not vice versa.
She further writes that omniscience is unattainable
While writing about the Yaoshi, she brings up the fact that any attempt to divine the Abundance's future is an unforgiveable felony onboard the Xianzhou. Any attempt to do so can be lethal for the diviner, and if they survive, they will face the full wrath of the Ten Lords Commission. (The other Aeons are kind of forbidden to divine, but the punishment is less severe and may even be suspended.)
She mentions that hubris often strikes diviners during their first 100 years on the job; likely implication being that she has been doing it for at the barest of minimums that time, and more probable way longer?
The rest of Fu Xuan's observations are musings on the nature of Aeons and relate a lot to the future of the Xianzhou:
Sorting of the Aeons into three categories, which the Xianzhou still uses:
"Arbiters: Determining mortal births and deaths, which are highly connected to the rise and fall of civilizations." Lan, Qlipoth.
"The Sacrosancts: Difficult to predict as good or evil; often unable to even know where they head for." Nous, Akivili, Aha, Idrila.
"The Authors of Calamity: The main culprit behind all disasters. Avoid, or be annihilated." Yaoshi, Nanook, Tayzzyronth.
Lan appeared in Year 3400 Star Calendar, and ever since the Divination Commission monitors and interprets what Lan's arrows mean.
Fu Xuan muses that while Qlipoth themselves strives for isolation between worlds with no contact, IPC, their foremost faction, facilitates contact and trade between worlds seemingly without drawing the ire of Qlipoth at all.
When the Xianzhou fleet set sail they witnessed Qlipoth's Echidna Skywall that seperates the worlds from the void.
Fu Xuan herself has seen Nous, the machine-like Aeon. "Contrary to standard thinking, Nous is not a god that provides solutions. On the contrary, all they offer is an infinite number of questions." Overall she speaks very highly of Nous and encourages diviners to take after them.
Akivili is shrouded in legends, but Fu Xuan mentions that both the IPC and Xianzhou fleet navigate space by the star rail ("chromatic echelons").
Deems Aha to be the Aeon closest to mortals, mentioning how Aha's followers instigated a riot that ended with a troll virus being spread in the local robot army.
While Idrila is fallen, it's implied that through gathering and using the relics left behind, they might come back.
This quote is just fascinating in the implications of Idrila: "According to ancient myth, Idrila once attributed the beauty of all the starzones to themselves, showing heroes, villains, and mortals the meaning and aesthetics contained within the cosmic landscape, and driving them to complete astonishing (but often devastating) achievements for Idrila's own pleasure. This myth may reveal the true meaning behind the Path of Beauty: The integration of consciousness, insight, and values."
There is some strange and remote connection between the Yaoshi and the Xianzhou people, apparently, one that physics cannot yet explain.
Nanook is the most recently ascended Aeon. Fu Xuan muses that the followers of Nanook are becoming an increasing problem, the fleet has lost contact with many worlds ravaged by the Antimatter Legion, and that in the near future it's likely they will have to face Nanook's forces.
Tayzzyronth, while dead, still has seeded worlds which in turn become hellscapes if not destroyed. Also their scions are still alive, and there are scholar theories that they can come back at any time.
Fu Xuan once inspected a piece of amber that was a piece from the "Imperator Insectorum's Prison Cell." The omniscia implanted in my forehead could not see the future of this item, which only serves to corroborate the scholar's claims. All I can do is pray in silence to the Reignbow that such a day will not come soon.

Be advised of minor totk Ganondorf spoilers ahead--
One of the things that stands out to me about botw/TotK is the many ways we are shown that a connection of people to nature and the understanding of and respect for the spirits of the land-- an incredibly Shintoist outlook-- is integral to Hyrule's prosperity.
This is true of every Zelda, but the very Ghibli-esque nature of these two showcase it in a really forefront way, in how they show a destroyed and recovering Hyrule, post Calamity. The erasure and destruction of both historical record and knowledge of important skills, as well as a seperation from the people and their big and small Gods, is directly aimed at severing such connection.
That's the philosophical heart of the series, thematically. It's also part of why Link is named link-- a link to Hyrule for the player, but also one who links people together, and reforges broken connections so that something can heal and strengthen again.
(That's relevant to the rejection of Sheikah Technology too, and the ways in which advanced magic-tech is very much shown to be something of the Heavens, rather than Earth. The themes there regarding hubris and error, such as Calamity Ganon's turning the technology against Hyrule, are kind of playing on the dangers of that sacred connection to the land being substituted.)
A huge part of the damage done to Hyrule in Ganon's assaults comes in isolating people and weakening the spiritual forces of the land, often cutting off access to holy places of Hyrulean worship or attempting to destroy or defile them.
One of the effects of this to remember when pondering new details is that some of the things in botw/Totk's lore-- such as things we're told through word of mouth especially by contemporary Hyrulean people-- are deliberately wrong, or intended as having been widely misunderstood.
Hylians especially have lost a vast wealth of cultural and religious knowledge in the Calamity, and much of their previous population and settlements. Their access to and knowledge of holy sites and objects, and their meanings or respective spiritual guardians or deities, is incredibly limited and spotty.
It isn't the first time we see cultural knowledge waning like this in the series, either. Like a bad game of telephone, this knowledge gets distorted and diluted over time until it's merely a rumour or guess, that vaguely resembles the original tale or purpose.
A great example of this is knowledge of the Triforce upon the Great Sea in Wind Waker. The legend of the Holy Relic that contains the power of the creation Gods and its wish granting properties does persist, even beyond a cataclysmic flooding of Hyrule has buried most evidence of it. So much so that its mark can adorn the doors of Outset Island, clearly still holding purpose as a warding symbol at the very least, while treasure hunters and old men rave about the lost treasure of the wish granting cutlery, the Triumph Forks.
To this point, and in an interesting meta effect of this, Jerrin notes-- regarding the horned statue in TotK-- that, there being a goddess of light, her parallel and opposing twin comes in the form of the Horned God.
Which many players probably think odd. I did, at first.
At face value, we may think Jerrin is speaking of the demonic entity residing within the statue, because that is what we are most familiar with when we think of this statue in particular.
And while the entity trapped in the horned statue certainly is a member of the demon tribe, most players are probably going to be aware of the dissonance there-- Hylia's opposing match is and always has been Demise.
The entity tells us it was sealed inside that statue by the Goddess herself, long into antiquity, as a punishment for their deals with mortals. Depending on how you wish to interpret that, and especially considering we've seen members of the Demon tribe refer to a Zelda as 'the Goddess' still, it can be taken with a grain of salt which incarnation of Hylia did the sealing.
While it has become a vessel used to seal a particular demon, I believe that it already existed. The idea of sealing spirits and demons into containers is par for the course in Zelda and Japan, and this entity says that it was sealed 'inside this statue', rather than transformed into one (such as we see done to WW Ganondorf).
The Horned Statue itself very much matches the form of the Statues of Hylia in design, which are conversely noted to be rounded down over time by touch and prayer. They're worn from worship, and the Horned Statue isn't. The demon inside gripes about how people ignore it and don't even clean bird poop off it. It's pretty safe to assume that it represents the Horned God as, what Hylians would perceive to be, an evil idol. But in that, it represents the greater concept-- the demon tribe as a whole, as represented by their leader-- rather than the unfortunate being stuck inside of it (who most people besides Link apparently can't even hear).
As an aside, TotK has given us example of other spirits and minor deities being able to communicate to Link through them, in a manner almost reminiscent of Gossip Stones (and I believe that's on purpose). When he speaks to a typical statue of Hylia, for instance, it is reinforced that he is not actually hearing the voice of Hylia-- of course. What he is speaking to is, for the most part, an animistic delegate of a kind that acts as an intermediary.
There is a kind of spiritual awareness within the statue that performs a function, like a priest performing service, but cut right back to the essence of it. I don't mean to imply every statue has had a being forcibly stuffed inside of it to fulfill this task, but rather that the voice is closer to a result of the spiritual practices themselves.
The vessel of worship, through being worshipped, gains a spiritual identity as a link to the Divine.
The point is, it's unlikely that this entity is actually 'the Horned God' that the statue itself represents. It is supposed to represent the Leader of the Demon tribe. Demise is the natural opposite of Hylia, and he is stated to appear differently through the epochs, to each who sees him.
The opening cutscene of Skyward Sword very clearly depicts him in symbolic representation with horns.
And, I do not think that it is at all a coincidence that TOTK also presents us with a pretty undeniably horny Ganondorf, who is himself a reincarnation of that spiritual wellspring of essence. One of the thing to understand about the Tear he possesses is that it, with it's basis being a Magatama, is functionally amplifying his spiritual force and manifesting his potential.
In this state, he is very much supposed to evoke and represent Demise, and his role-- he is visually geared to make that connection clear.
He has become the Horned God that this ancient statue pays homage to.
When we view the aspects of these games through the lens of the average Hylian person, versus what we know from the long running meta of Zelda and it's extra materials as a whole, it becomes really interesting to decipher these sorts of red herring details.
At first glance something may seem to be a contradiction or an ill fit, but upon further inspection, starts to hold a lot of weight as a deliberate part of the internal world build.

Olive didn't like to think much about her past. Well maybe that's not true. She did enjoy the memories of her parents before Calamity ruined everything. She especially enjoyed the memory of Sybil telling her their eyes were red because they were filled with love. She also could fondly remember most of her time at Gotham Academy. But there was always a black blob she liked to ignore. A man who stole her mother from her. A man who's supposedly so clever yet couldn't figure out Sybil was being possessed. A man who made every adult in her life spy on her and see her as a ticking time bomb. Batman was not someone she liked to remember. Unfortunately for her, he was everywhere. She could never be sure he wasn't spying on her from the shadows. She could never truly be free of the dark knight that followed her. He haunted her long after Calamity was exorcised. To say she didn't like bats was an understatement.
Olive lived in a dorm building on Gotham U campus. She shared a flat with Pomeline and thanks to Pom's mother, they'd gotten one of the nicer buildings with seperate rooms. It was modern, well, modern compared to everything else, and most importantly had easy to access roof. Olive liked to study up there. She'd dragged a few deck chairs up to the roof around the time she first moved in. Gotham was rarely quiet but up on the roof the noises of the city seemed distant and hushed. It was peaceful and a good place for her to work on her newest project, her costume. She'd been cast as Juliette for the drama department's most recent play and she happened to befriend an exhausted student in the costuming department, Sasha. She'd offered to sew her own costume if they bought her the materials and Sasha looked on the verge of tears she was so grateful.
Olive had been peacefully sewing, listening to a cover of "La Seine" when all of a sudden she felt it. She hadn't felt those kind of eyes on her in a while now but there was no mistaking it. A bat was watching her. She snapped her gaze to another building's roof and stared. Olive resisted the urge to roll her eyes in favour of keeping her glare on him. Then the white slits hidden amongst shadows moved forward. She saw they weren't from a black cowl but a red helmet. Her gaze softened and she raised an eyebrow. Red Hood grappled over and gracefully landed on her roof. He didn't move for a while so she kicked a chair toward him. He took the hint, sat down and finally spoke.
"I wasn't trying to find you."
"You weren't?" Olive questioned and he held his hand to his chest. The hand she'd felt a week ago. She wondered if he felt the same tingling sensation she did.
"Hood's honour. I was investigating rumours about Black Mask trying to use the campus canteen as place to hide some smuggled goods. Turns out the rumours were right but the goods was just a first edition copy of Adultolescence."
"The Gabbie Hanna book?"
"You know the author?" He pulled out the book, thumbed through the pages and stopped at a poem that just said 'link in bio'. "Is this code for something?"
"No, she's a youtuber. Its just a poetry book."
"Well I knew this was poetry, but why would Roman be into this?"
"Maybe he's a fan?"
"Unlikely. Is she-" He stopped on one page that had notes scribbled onto it in a cipher. Hood started jotting down possible translations on a note pad and Olive went back to her sewing. He seemed so engulfed in decoding the message, he'd completely forgotten she was there. She didn't mind though. The quiet was comfortable. Even more comfortable than it had been before. She finished the first part of the petticoat by the time Hood shot up in triumph. He folded the book and notes back into his jacket then noticed her project.
"You're hand stitching a peticoat?"
"I offered to make my own costume and I prefer to hand stitch then use a machine." She shrugged then quietly added, "my Mom taught me."
Hood crouched down in front of the skirt laid across her lap and examined it. She wondered what his face was doing but luckily his voice, though distorted by the filter in his hood, was still very expressive.
"She taught you well." He commented. "Your back stitch is really neat."
"Thank you." Olive smiled and rethreaded her needle. "We're not trying to make historically accurate costumes because we don't have the time, but I wanted to try bring some sort of accuracy into it you know? I thought making a petticoat and a corset would work and still be renaissance enough to make me happy."
"You like renaissance fashion?"
"I had a-" She paused trying to think of what to call Calamity. "-cousin, Amy, who was really into renaissance fashion. I like costumes and sewing."
"Cool." Hood nodded and pushed himself up to his full height. "Well, I better get back to vigilante shit."
"Taylor Swift?" Olive chuckled at the idea of the feared, brutal Red Hood listening to Midnights.
"The country girl?"
"She hasn't done country music in forever."
"Oh. What does she do now?"
"Mostly pop but she has good lyrics. You should check her out."
"I'll be sure to do that." Red Hood walked to the edge of the building, turned back to wave, before grappling away into the night. She watched the red dot disappear into the shadows of Gotham and turned back to the petticoat. She decided to turn in for the night and brought her stuff inside. She placed the petticoat on top of the red fabric she was going to use for the dress and flopped down on to her bed. Sasha had said they were going with the tradition of putting the Montegues in blue and the Capulets in red. Which worked out terrific for Olive, red was her favourite colour after all. The thought reminded her of the conversation she'd had with Red Hood. She'd been brain storming how to use the favour he owed her to get back at Batman but hadn't come up with anything good enough yet. Luckily, Hood didn't seem bothered by her taking a while so she still had a long time to think about it.
She checked over the boning she planned to use for the corset and started arranging the red fabric. Sasha had explained the symbolism of the colours. Blue and Red are considered opposites. Blue represents sadness which suits how Romeo starts out in the play. Red represents anger, love and passion which fit the Capulets perfectly. Almost everything they did was motivated by anger, love and passion. Olive figured the colour probably suited her then too. She wondered how well it fit Red Hood.

MadaTobi Week Day One: Magic and Marriage
Adventitious
Uchiha Madara, known in some circles as the Calamity, took a moment to reflect upon how he had ended up in this situation. The answer was of course a group of meddling elders who were incapable of minding their own business. It had started with subtle, and some not so subtle hints about settling down and had quickly escalated.
Soon he couldn’t turn around without one of the old fussbudgets droning on about his duty to the clan and that it was time and past he wed and produced an heir. The whole concept was ridiculous. He was only twenty-six. There was still plenty of time.
Unfortunately that argument had not worked on the elders at all. Nor had the one about him being busy. The only debate where he had won any ground had been on avoiding an arranged marriage. Uchiha, by and large, married for love. The clan would have been up in arms if the elder’s council had tried to force the issue.
Izuna had been no help at all. Oh his brother was happy enough to flirt with anyone who was appropriately strong, Likewise the other spent a not inconsiderate amount of time engaging in activities Madara did not want to envision his baby brother participating in. But commitment? Not a chance.
He almost wished Izuna was less responsible with his liaisons. A child out of wedlock would not be the end of the world. In such a scenario Madara could easily arrange for the babe to be brought into the main house. It would probably even get the council off his back for awhile. Alas, it was not to be.
In an act of desperation Madara had even tried claiming he preferred men. It was true, mostly. It was at this point one of the wrinkled bastards had whipped out an authentic Uzumaki grimoire all about fertility spells and sex magic declaring a male spouse would be no issue. How Yoshito had managed to get his hands on the thing, Madara had no idea, but he had.
Even worse, another of the elder’s had thoughtfully put forth the idea of performing the Ritual of Harmony. It would, he claimed, provide Madara with a compatible spouse. Love, the elder had piously exclaimed, would come with time.
The Ritual itself had been around for centuries. And while it was true it would bring forth a compatible match, resulting in some truly cloying love stories, it was rarely used. Most people just were not that enthusiastic about marrying a complete stranger they knew nothing about. Especially given that seperation was not an option. Once a pair was bound, they were bound for life. There were likewise a number of horror stories about attempts by third parties to circumvent or break the bond. Such attempts never ended well.
So here he was, barely a month after the suggestion had been broached, wearing a sober formal kimono and waiting for his bride. Madara tried one last time to think of a way out of this, but failed. It was also, he reflected as the priestess finished, too late anyways. The painted ritual lines pulsed once, twice, before condensing in a ball of light which shown like the sun for a brief moment before fading to leave a figure behind.
Madara’s breath caught in his throat. Pale silvery white hair, crimson eyes, the man was unmistakable. Senju Tobirama. Madara almost panicked before common sense reasserted itself. He had already consented but all the Senju had to do to get out of this was . . .
“I accept.”
As the bond snapped into place Madara could only stare. What? What?!
While Tobirama had initially been shocked, it had barely taken him an instant to grasp the situation. This morning, he would have never even considered marrying Uchiha Madara. But if the Ritual of Harmony had brought them together there was clearly more to the other man than he had ever considered. And of course, there were other factors.
“You,” Madara still had not quite regained the use of his tongue.
“I will of course expect you to make peace with my kin.”
Madara stared stunned. Tobirama was his husband. Hashirama was his brother-in-law. This changed everything. It was at this point that one of the elder’s knelled over with a groan, clutching his chest; immediately sending the rest into a tizzy.
Too bad, Madara thought dispassionately as the elder was rushed off. In his mind, the other had brought it upon himself. Looking back at his new spouse, he almost smiled. Maybe this marriage thing would not be so bad after all.

So some time ago I was scrolling through Netflix, desperate to find something interesting to watch. While surfing through the service, I stumbled upon a strangely familiar show that I never watched. Maya and the Three. Looking at the thumbnail pic and such, the artstyle in the show reminded me of the Book of Life, a movie I loved as a kid (and still love!). I looked it up and turned out the show was made by the same folks who made the Book of Life! I knew my lil' bro would probably like this so I got him into the room and we started watching the series. During the week it took for us to get through the entire series (which was a season long btw; not because Netflix canceled it, but because the creater of the show was scared it would be canceled prior to the story's conclusion), we saw the story unfold. Incredible fight scenes, great characters, and an ending that made me cry lmao the show was that good. However, towards the end of the show some things felt a bit rushed like the romance plotpoint between Maya and possible tumblr sexyman 2024 canidate, Zatz, and Maya opening up more to her biological mother, the goddess of death. Also I felt like the realm of the gods and the gods themselves weren't explored that much, either. Which is why I decided "Hey, what if I re-imagined the series? This show only had a season anyways. It had so much potential!". And here we are now. My basic idea for a re-imagining of Maya and the Three! I might keep building upon the idea of the re-imagining in the future but I've got a shit ton of projects I wanna get out there (I gotta finish Your Side of Order, start Calamity Circus now that I got an idea of how the story will go, and brainstorm the story I had in mind for Ribbon & W.D) and because this is just a rough idea as I only thought about all of. Anyways here we go :D
Heart of a God (a re-imagining of Maya and the Three)
What I had in mind was this: Lord Michlan (now the king of all gods and the god of war in this re-imagining) has a rule about god/human hybrids: they're either taken to the realm of the gods at birth by the god that spawned them or they're seperated from their mortal family at the age of 15 and sent to the realm of the gods against their will. Either way, if they aren't sent to do something for the gods, they're stuck in the realm of the gods for all eternity.
The re-imagining starts the same way the first episode of the series does: Maya's being officially recognized as a princess and has to give up the rough and tough lifestyle she loves. But two things are different: A) Maya's brothers aren't there because to me personally they don't add much to the plot and B) the reveal of Maya's demigod-hood. Zatz crashes the party, reveals Maya's demigod-hood to the people of Teca, and goes on to tell everyone that he has to take Maya to the realm of the gods ('cause you know, the rule about demigods). However, he seems very unwilling to do this. He has a somber tone to his voice. Anyways, at first, Maya's parents are outraged and want to fight back, however, Maya turns herself in, still mad about having to give up her lifestyle. Her parents are mildly confused and shocked, only for Maya to justify that "isn't this what princesses are supposed to do? protect her people? if I can't fight I might as well do this instead, even if I don't want to. heck, maybe my birth mom is better than you two.". Maya's very clearly pissed off about all of this. She doesn't want to deal with any of this, so she heads to Zatz and the two start going to the realm of the gods. Maya's parents are heartbroken, but don't react with violence as they first indended... at least not right now.
After the first episode, we get to know more about the realm of the gods, the gods themselves, and see Maya grow as a character. At first, Maya isn't optimistic about this new life she has to live, being trapped in a world full of strange beings that have the ability to kill her in a heartbeat, but at the same time she doesn't want to go back to the life she knew ('cause she's still pissed off about the lifestyle thing and being lied to). And it doesn't help that, by order of Lord Michlan, Zatz has to accompany her throughout the realm of the gods until she's fully adjusted to this new way of life and as the story progresses, the two get closer (fixing the unaturally quick pacing of the romance plotpoint in the OG show) and we get to know why Zatz is the way he is (might elaborate further in a seperate post idk). Also, the goddess of death tries to find a way to let Maya be with her mortal parents again.
We don't spend all the series in the realm of the gods though because after a while, Maya's parents get desperate and decide to wage war against the gods and assemble an army and force our three other main characters from the OG series (Pichu, Chimi, and Rico) into this ordeal (since they're the chosen ones), sending them into the realm of the gods (again 'cause they're the chosen ones) to try to retrive Maya, with each one of them having their own emotional baggage (I liked their backstories from the OG show 'cause they were pretty solid so I'm keeping them) alongside the fact that they didn't want this. Each epsiode focusing on the chosen ones' missions will involve each of them wanting to kill the gods (especially Zatz 'cause he has to stay w/ Maya) and Maya & Zatz fighting them to get them to stop (and also help them with their emotional baggage or whateva). All of this will lead up to the finale where the mortals shatter the barrier between their realm and the realm of the gods and start the mortal v gods war, with the mortals' ultimate goal being to kill the gods (and demigods, specifically Zatz because this guy was the one who took Maya away from the rulers of Teca). Outraged by this, Michlan makes the strongest of the gods go to the mortal realm to punish the mortals, still not realizing that his rule is pretty fucked up. As the fight rages on, Zatz, Maya, and the chosen ones become determined to stop the war, with seemingly the only way of stopping it is killing Michlan since he is just so determined to keep his demigod rule in place.
Instead of killing off almost all of the best characters like in the OG series (bro why couldn't Maya just have her happy ending? I mean sure becoming the sun is pretty cool but seems kinda weak at least to me. what can you even do as a big fucking ball of gas??), here's what I had in mind:
Maya loses her arm fighting Lord Michlan (bringing the dislocation thing full circle; it kinda did in the main series but it would've been more badass than limping towards Michlan's heart thing or whateva)
Zatz and the goddess of death die, but because technically this show and the Book of Life happen in the same universe, La Muerte shows up after the battle with Candle Maker and Xibalba to intervene because all the gods are dead, and to reward Maya for her efforts she revives Zatz, however the goddess of death can't be revived because she is a god.
The turning into the sun and moon thing is ditched entirely.
And finally Maya reconciles with her parents about the events of the first episode.
And that's the basics of the re-imagining. I'll probably do more posts about this in the future since this is a pretty rough concept for a Maya re-imagining and this might need some polishing up so be on the look out for more of those ;D

...On a much brighter note, we've somehow missed how much Marcy would love the hermit TCG, even if the only cards available would be the ones directly on the hermits' persons.
Until the drop ships, since the pilots probably account for a desire to shift the meta the Hermits have presumably been stuck with in the games they may or may not have been potentially playing.
Which leads into something else, because she may or may not be around when those cards come into circulation.
It's been all but stated that False was, Well, but you haven't told us and no one asked where that leaves Marcy.
Because False doesn't seem like The Core's first or even fifth choice. Hermit or human. So why was it bereft of options?
Oh yeah! As soon as she gets her hands on TCG cards - whenever that is - Marcy becomes a near-instant expert, & gives all but the best Hermit players a once over. Post-Season 3, Beef arranges a "re-release", & adds an expansion featuring the Calamity Trio & a few of their other new friends.
But you're right. Marcy may not be immediately around when the cards come into circulation.
And that's something i've been trying to decide on.
I don't know if i've said it before, but my plan's that after True Colors, all three of the Calamity Trio are seperated from their mentor. For Anne & Sasha that's simple: Scar ends up on Earth, while False is left behind in Amphibia. But Marcy's been undecided for me for a while.
Because wherever Marcy is, Mumbo isn't.
And I already implied Mumbo was with the resistance, which leaves either Newtopia or Earth for Marcy.
And because of that I felt I should finally make a chart so I can track where each character is going into Season 3 (see at the end).
And from doing that, I came to a decision.
Marcy isn't with the resistance, & there are certain reasons she's not in Newtopia, either.
And the leading reason comes in the form of False Symmetry.
Its the middle of the climactic battle of True Colors. Gem's brought most of the Hermits back to their senses, but with Anne now both freed from Andrias' control & burnt out, that surge of ability has faded. Between that, Andrias' field generator & his other anti-Hermit countermeasures, things aren't going in the good guys' favor.
Half the Hermits - Grian, Doc, Mumbo & others - stand by Sasha & hold the line against Andrias, whilst the other half - Scar, Zedaph, Etho, etc. - stick with Anne & Marcy, creating a second defense line while Marcy gets the portal to Earth to open so they can all regroup on the other side.
Ultimately, the first line with Sasha are the Hermits that remain in Amphibia, while the second line mostly wind up on Earth.
False is in the second line, having stuck by Anne, the two fighting back to back.
That's until the last moment, at least.
False is the last member of the second line to make it to the portal, & is about to shout for the others to follow - not yet realising they've just been scattered by Andrias - when she sees the giant newt king charging toward an unwitting Marcy, burning sword raised as Anne calls desperately for her friend.
A million images flash through False's mind. Memories both good & bad. Recent & distant.
Among them, the visage of a woman who looks very much like False herself.
"No more."
Marcy yelps midsentence as she's suddenly shoved forward - Calamity Box dropping from her hands - tumbling into Anne's arms as she crosses the event horizon of the portal.
She hears Anne cry out in shock & despair... and turns in time to see False impaled through the chest by Andrias' blade, the newt king surprised but not deterred, sighing disappointedly.
"...Now look what you've made me do."
False meets Anne's eyes one last time, smiling confidently despite the clear levels of agony she's in.
"...A-A promise is a promise, huh?"
Anne can only shout in fear as everything goes white.
So it comes to pass that, thanks to False, Marcy doesn't get backstabbed, but now has to live with the guilt of the sacrifice someone else made to save her.
And that brings me to your second point. Why False for... that?
Well, Marcy was the first choice, & neither Sasha or Anne are on hand either, so rather than default back to Andrias, the Core decides that - maybe - one of these Hermit creatures would be a viable & powerful host, dampened abilities or not.
Among the Hermits, their first option would've been Mumbo, but he's gone dark, among those who fled Newtopia to form a resistance. And most of the other genius level Hermits are out of reach.
But those aside, the blonde they have recuperating in a tank - without respawn, False held on by sheer force of will for long enough to be hooked up to healing things - is actually a pretty viable host. False is smart & strong in equal measure, & will bring new ideas to the collective.
Whether she likes it or not.
The only real issue is that - like most Hermits - False has experience with false simulated worlds. But that's only a minor thing.
After all, False had her friends with her, then.
Now, though, she's all alone...
(Note: I'd known False was going to shove Marcy out of the way for a while - the whole Core!False idea coming not long after - & it was just what happened to Marcy because of that which I was undecided on.)

👀 what's your interpretation of Hastur and the King in Yellow?
OKAY SO we're gonna start at the beginning. Malevolent. I started listening at the recommendation of one of my friends, and very thoroughly enjoyed myself right up until Yellow was introduced and he stressed me out soso bad. however I loved the concept, and the atmosphere, and kept thinking idly about how someone could act differently from Arthur in the same or similar circumstances. this combined with my theoretical Calamity character, a time traveling historian, into Jacqueline Little, member of the Temporal Historians Society and current resident of 1934 ish.
but why does this matter. WELL if this was discord I'd spoiler this rn however it's not so I'll just say MALEVOLENT SPOILERS and continue. the King in Yellow features heavily in this podcast, due to the fact that John is a leetl piece of him, fractured off and possessing his own free will now (good for him). but I don't know Anything about the cthulhu mythos, and any characterization I'd make would be based entirely on the podcast I'm already lowkey ripping off, which I'm deeply uncomfortable with. I decide to go and read The Source Material, finding that Lovecraft didn't even come up with Hastur, or the King in Yellow! Lovecraft got both names from Robert Chambers, author of the book The King in Yellow, about a (fictional) play by the same name, and he got the name Hastur (and Carcosa and a couple others) from a collection of short stories, including Haïta the Shepherd. first I read the Dunwich Horror, to get a feel for the vibe, then I decided I wanted Hastur Exclusive Content and read Haïta the Shepherd, and am now most of the way through the King in Yellow (book).
something interesting I found is that neither Lovecraft nor Chambers ever tried to combine Hastur and the King in Yellow in any of their works- Chambers simply used Hastur as a fun cool name, and the King as a fleshed out character of his own, and Lovecraft just had them next to each other in a list of Spooky Dudes. Admittedly Lovecraft also had Hastur's followers hunting the Mi-Go, and an association with the Yellow Sign, which might be where people made the connection later on? but within Their Own Works there is nothing indicating that those are two names for the same entity. THAT was put forward by a completely different guy decades later, about the same time people started associating Old Ones with elements and shit and that sounds boring so I'm ignoring it. TMA did a good job categorizing horror without detracting from it- these people did not.
I essentially made a list of everything I associate with Hastur and the King, seperately, and came to the conclusion that they are 1) brothers of a kind 2) part of Carcosa/straight up Carcosa 3) the same person born twice. they look very similar and end up having similar goals, but Hastur is the country while the King is the ruler. when Carcosa the island does something, they act as one. they are one. when the land revolts against the king, Hastur attacks his brother. when the king is cruel to his subjects, the King in Yellow acts accordingly. they essentially act as physical metaphors for the state of the nation, and their personalities fit. Hastur tends to be more nuturing than the King, while the King cares more about control and getting people to do what he wants, by whatever means necessary.
I'd also like to mention that Hastur is the name of a lake in the King in Yellow (book/play), which is why Hastur is a manifestation of the land itself. he's also the lake at the same time, and possibly the moons though I think they share custody of the stars and suns.
#THANK YOU FRIEND#true story#asked#the king in yellow (play)#temporal historians society#I'm having a lot of fun rn thankuuuu SO much for letting me talk about this#I do refer to them as brothers here but that's like. brothers in the way you have sister cities. they're not related they're Related#if any of this doesn't make sense uh. I'm sorry feel free to ask more questions#TO BE CLEAR the King in Yellow is also the literal ruler of Carcosa and Hastur is akin to its steward. there is not a seperate king#but when you're talking about 'oh Carcosa did this Carcosa did that' it's them. they did it.

Another love letter about her. Shes such a little fruity grrl. i will not elaborate, she my love and my life. but she is also solomnly sweet & warm, like the taste of Strawberries mixed with chocolates & mints, She holds the kindness of a Stoic creature, With much fine taste & high barriers, the warmth of the sun and the attitude of a sweet potato, the love of warrior & the intimacy of a lovesick puppy, and the dominance of a ewe. She is blessed with the energy of niether light nor dark, she is her own unique energy. An Ocean of mysterious Blood, An Winged Anomaly, a Soft Lamb. She holds no hate nor love for anyone, Shes Friendly to all, She is pure love for me. She Isnt definable in human terms. But if i were to give the description of what i feel people would think if she was of this realm, is the most brightest light imaginable a Star, & the most empathetic Devil. A demon who protects her loved ones with magic, An angel that would lay down her life for her friends. A Goddess who would do the right thing.
in reality she is none of these things, her culture our past world, is something no one can properly put into words or in this world, the only encompassing concepts that intercept. Ocean & Earth. Push and pull, A Final Crushing Fallow & A Murderous calamity. a Kind Mare & A Loyal Dragon. or perhaps some type of wolf.
Lamb is the type of person to act above & below someone at the same time so she can be on equal footing with them. She means no harm, she means only to getting to the point of business. most times shes simply passing through, other times shes there to destory. not in the destructive violent way, but in the way of a prophetic crafter, a assembly of ones fate or justice. She & much like i decide the fate of whose bright smartass idea it was to betray us. We are not kind. We are friendly without a passing emotion for anyone else who doesnt put effort in. but for each other? We feel everything for each other, a true solace in each others arms & warm finite yet infinite embrace, love protection, even when the other cant feel anything or phases of no emotion come we stick together no matter what. We are only for each other, we existed before time, before space & we were inseparable, warm, cozy, like two desparate lovers who could never be seperated ever. Holding on for life. we harold to no god or goddess or being besides ourselves, live for no one else besides each other, love only each other the most. she is my everything. and i am her everything. that is a tale and a whimsy fairytale lost to time.

Continent Overview - Aurkura
Ok so the next continent we’re going to cover is the one I’m currently in the process of redesigning, Aurkura! (The map for this one is still in the sketching stage so will add later)
Aurkura is not only the largest continent in all of Errakor but has the largest number of governing entities of all of them (so far).
The first we’ll cover is Cripea. Not only was it the first designed, and the one I have actually run a short term campaign in, but it used to be the whole continent during the first draft of this continent’s development. Cripea is very much your classic fantasy environment, with large forests, grasslands, mountains and lakes. The nation has two mountin ranges that help to seperate the nation into it’s northern and southern parts. The north of Cripea contains the nation’s capital Redholt. Redholt is a large city with a large arts scene, having many theaters throughout providing great support for theatrical actors and musicians, even providing people with places to train with their bardic college. The north also holds its northern port towns of Eccot and Prylyn, which act as the easiest point of travel to other nations on the continent, as well as the continent of Faerith to the north-west of them. In the south of the nation is one of the strongest places of magical energy, The Everdusk Forest. Initially a forest that was the home of the god Sylvanus, The Old Oak, until during The Sundering (my calamity event) when Mystra, The Mother of All Magic was dragged from her divine realm to the material plane landing in Sylvanus’ forest. In order to prevent chaos or an overload in magical power caused by this event, the two deities weaved the magic spread by her summoning into the forest itself. In modern times those woods became known as The Everdusk Forest.
The next area is the group of islands to the south of Cripea is The Votquetian Islands. A series of three islands occupied with jungle terrain, many tirbal communities as well as variety of large beasts, the most notable of which are dinosaurs. The main settlement, Vot, is a huge point shamanic knowledge and important to those well attuned to their or others beastly natures.
To the north of Cripea is the small dwarven nation of Voratim. Surrounded on almost all sides by mountain ranges, the dwarves of Voratim are extremely proud of how easily defendable their nation is as well as proud of the strength of their military. The culture in Voratim is very much focused on the strength of not only that of their indivdual clans but their collective strength as a nation. They often see themselves as stronger than their neighbouring countries. Recently their has been word of some clans pushing for war with the surrounding nations, mainly Cripea as in the past Voratim used to control much of it’s northern region before being ousted a couple hundred years ago.
One much smaller governing body to the east of Cripea is the floating elven Autumn spire Galgwyn, one part of an Eladrin citadel shattered during the Sundering when it was dragged into the material plane from the Feywild. Though it contains more than just the Eladrin subrace of elves, due to being locked in the season of Autumn, this causes any Eladrin present in the spire to be locked into their Autumnal Forms.
To the east of Voratim we have the quaint nation of Wiryish. One of the main stand out parts of the nation is its large marshlands that make up a large portion of the nation. These marshalnds contain five different settlements, some of which include Ol’Fen, a welcoming village of goblins and halfings in the northern swamplands, and Guskatin a village that is little more than a goblin encampment that awkwardly grew overtime to become a large chaotic settlement. My favourite part of developing this nation was the motivation it gave me to develop my own Halfling subrace known as the Marsh Halfling/Bogling. Many of the fetures for which are repurposed from the Boggard race designed by R.N.W.’s Spike Patch Grove one shot, check it out its great.
To the north of Wiyish is the currently very underdeveloped jungle nation of Dowajiro. I have plenty of ideas ideas for the society of the nation, mainly involving some mayan influences and making the population largely consist of the animalistic lineages, such as Leonin, Tabaxi and Shifters. But for now I don’t have much written for it.
And finally to the south of Wiryish/east of Cripea in the Orean Sea we have another chain of islands known as The Igian Isles. The Igian Isles are a series of seven islands that all used to be part of one landmass, until the destructive effects of The Sundering led to a titanic influx of water from the Plane of Water that raised sea levels globally and earthquakes, caused by the pained reverberations that the Plane of Earth felt during The Sundering leaked into the material plane, separated what was still left above sea level into the series of Islands we are familiar with today. The landmass was known as Opath, but is now since known as The Igian Isles as Igia is largest landmass of the remaining islands.
Ok this was really long but I really enjoyed writing about all of this, if you found anything cool, had some ideas or any writing pointers please let me know, see you all next time!

A Sheik spinoff does sound like a cool idea, but why not just have a Zelda game starring Zelda as Zelda?
A lot of people were already really excited about the possibility of a playable Zelda in TOTK, which didn't happen. There's also a time where the Zelda substory in Skyward Sword was a section where you played Zelda.
The Hyrule Warriors have also made pretty interesting uses of moves for Zelda. While I know the HW series might be a bit hit or miss with folks, that's still a place to start.
I think a Sheik game could be cool, but Sheik appeared in 1 game. It's telling that the way in which a Zelda game starring Zelda is considered is if she pretends to be someone else. Somehow Nintendo does not seem to know what to do with their princess characters (Peach's first outing as a platformer where she uses her emotions as super powers is notoriously misguided. The more recent peach one is fine. She does a lot of dress up but that's more on brand for Mario type abilities anyway).
Ocarina of Time is like Final Fantasy 7 for TLOZ series - great game, but can we please move on?
Three Zelda game pitches off the top of my head.
A Zelda game in the Downfall or Adult timelines (where the hero Died or the Hero never returned). Zelda's Kingdom is besieged by Ganondorf. When it becomes clear that the hero is not returning, she must take up the mantle herself by obtaining the Triforce of Courage (which has no owner in this game since there is no hero). She also regains the Triforce of Power (Slaying/Sealing Ganon) which returns the Full Triforce to her. This is a 3D one.
A 2 player game, where Link & Zelda have to work together, in a sort of Four Swords/Triforce Heroes kind of deal, but they have seperate move sets. Could play like Eastward, where you need to swap between them to solve puzzles. You could make an extra twist by having Ganon be a third playable character and the three of them have to work together to stop another evil (in a Bowser in Mario RPG sort of deal - I'm saving this Kingdom only so I can have the chance to rule it again later). Zelda isn't the star per say but she shares the spotlight. This feels like a top down Zelda.
A Zelda game set in one of the many, many, many... many times she has been trapped in a crystal, or magical amber, or a light seal, or within a calamity cocoon, or twilight or what have you. Sure she has to spend the whole time waiting for link but what's this? She was just recently practicing close-up magic and she just so happens to have a deck of cards in her pocket! That's right it's a Zelda Solitaire game, where she plays Solitaire! You can retheme the background to be one of the many ways Zelda has been captured. You can theme the cards around Zelda stuff too, like diamonds are rupees, spades are master swords, clubs are moblins, and hearts are just hearts.
That last one is tongue in cheek but hey there's crossover potential for almost every single Zelda game out there!
The Sheik game is cool too though.
“Within the development team, too, there have been talks about how it might be cool to have a game that features Sheik as a protagonist. It’s having maybe a Zelda spin-off with Sheik as a protagonist, for example, I don’t think that’s an impossibility.” said Shigeru Miyamoto, 2016

Thoughts and opinions on the gerudo?
SIGH. i would love to talk about the gerudo free of any stupid weird orientalist transphobic racist bullshit but unfortunately nintendo will be nintendo. so mandatory disclaimer i fucking hate a lot of the way they were handled in botw particularly but the issue carries over to other games as well. for the sake of analysis im going to ignore some of it. this does not mean i do not notice it or that i excuse it. anyways
the gerudo in botw have some incredibly interesting implications for the greater lore in SEVERAL ways actually and all of them make me crazy. In previous games the gerudo were either unnamed "desert people" implied to be nomadic or clusters of small towns instead of a larger, centrally-governed civilization, or they were specifically servants of ganon; his "band of theives," and were all evil criminals who deliberately aligned themselves with him. in some games, the desert is completely uninhabited except for monsters (notably alttp and twiligh princess, which don't line up on the timeline, meaning there were 2 seperate incidents in which the desert was abandoned?) botw is the only game in which they have a clear-cut civilization governed by someone other than ganon.
Aside from that lore, the most important piece of info botw gives us about the gerudo is that calamity ganon was, at some point in the past, a gerudo man. it's implied (but never directly stated iirc) that there have not been any gerudo males born since, and that's why the gerudo are a female-only race (and perhaps the origin of their disdain for men within their walls.)
what we can extrapolate from this (or what i have extrapolated from this lol) is that the reincarnation of demise almost always takes place in the desert. at multiple points throughout hyrule's history, the reincarnation of demise may have driven people out of the desert or fragmented what little civilization WAS there. this accounts for the complete lack of civilization in the desert at multiple seperate points on the timeline, as well as the lack of un-fragmented civilization at every other point in the timeline, because up until botw there were very few periods of peace in which there wasn't an incarnation of demise wreaking havoc there. The reason that gerudo city is able to exist in botw is likely because of that 10 thousand year period in which there were no reincarnations, giving the remaining desert people more than enough time to congregate and form government, an opportunity which they had NEVER had throughout basically all of hyrule's previous history.
The man-hating aspect of the gerudo is, again, never outright stated in-game to my knowledge, but the logical conclusion seems to be that the birth of the man who eventually became calamity ganon, the last male gerudo, was such a catastrophic event for the desert people that they eventually swore off any interaction with men at all. the fact that this tradition survived for 10 thousand years while things like. the literal TRIFORCE were lost to time speaks numbers to how catastrophic ganon's impact on the desert people must have been when he was human.
#the gerudo are the biggest insight into ganon's backstory we get in basically every game which makes them SO interesting#botw#zelda analysis#asks
