Congratulations to Chloë Grace Moretz who came out as a lesbian in an Instagram post November 2, 2024. She using the occasion to announce she voted for President Kamala Harris as President, saying:
“I voted early and I voted for Kamala Harris, There is so much on the line this election. I believe the government has no right over my body as a woman, and that the decisions over my body should come ONLY from myself and my doctor. Kamala Harris will protect that for us.”
She added: “I believe in the need for legal protections that protects the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman.”
Moretz was born and raised in Georgia. She describes her family as "very Christian" Southern Baptists. In 2002, at the age of 5, she moved to New York City with her mother and older brother Trevor, who had been accepted into a performing arts school there. This triggered her interest in acting.
In less than three years she she was cast in guest roles on TV. She played Ryan Reynolds’ daughter in the 2005 remake of “The Amityville Horror”.
Her major breakthrough came in 2010 when Moretz was cast as Hit-Girl in the comic book film “Kick-Ass” and as the child vampire in “Let Me In”.
In an interview in 2018, she said that two of her three brothers came out as gay. Because of their religious community, they both dealt with self-hate, and tried to "pray the gay away". She credits her mother who is very progressive, with helping them to accept themselves as they are.
This experienced motivated Moretz to starred in “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” about a teen involved in same-sex relationship who is then sent by her parent to a Christian conversion camp.
In 2021 Moretz helped produced the six-part Snapchat series “Coming Out” highlighting young LGBTQ people.
Moretz has been romantically linked with Brooklyn Beckham (David Beckham’s son). But she began a relationship with model Kate Harrison in 2018.
Although Moretz likes to “keep my private life private” she used the occasion of voting for Kamala Harris to announce to the public she is a “Gay Woman”.

Promptlet: Malec Early Meeting
Izzy and Jace start clubbing early because Shadowhunters consider themselves adults around fourteen when they begin full mission status at the Institute. So, sixteen year old Alec just sighs and brings his Advanced Clave Law seminar work to Pandemonium and sits in the corner of the bar with a thick legal text and his battered spiral notebook for his rough draft essays. He doesn’t care if Jace and Izzy are taking field assignments, they’re still his little siblings and need a chaperone.
Magnus, obviously, starts hearing gossip from his bemused bartenders about the young nephilim downing club sodas with lime while frantically highlighting a battered copy of the Accords and decides he needs to figure out what's going on. Immediately.
So, Magnus ends up chatting with Alec (who, as it turns out, really likes the Shirley Temple Magnus snaps up for him in what was supposed to be a joke) and starts flipping through Alec's latest homework assignment. Magnus blinks, snaps up another Shirley Temple to keep Alec busy, and carefully reads the essay twice over, pulling out his own notebook (bound leather and fountain pen with a gold nib of course) halfway through. Alec found a loophole, a big loophole, that would exempt Downworlders from being questioned without notification to their faction leader.
Alec is an absolute disaster of a baby gay whenever Magnus so much as says hello or looks in his general direction, but, once he starts arguing the Law? He is vicious and ruthless and sharply concise. (Although Magnus becomes a little bit of a disaster himself when Alec absentmindedly starts chewing on his cherry stem while debating the finer points of interpreting The Clave vs. HOTI-Beijing, 1823.)
Ragnor comes over all the way from England just to see Magnus utterly lose his cool at this now seventeen year old shadowhunter who is literally drinking Shirley Temples and eating his weight in the extra cherries the bartenders slip him because they adore him too. Also, in terms of relationship dynamics? I think it would be kind of fun to explore Alec having a gigantic crush on Magnus (and Magnus just kind of utterly adoring Alec in turn between his obvious looks and, more importantly, his intelligence and his sharp humor and just .. everything) but also realizing that Alec is seventeen.
Alec is much more open (not that he had a snowball's chance in hell of hiding his Gigantic Crush on the High Warlock from anyone in Pandemonium except his siblings), and wages what amounts to pretty much open warfare to get Magnus to date him. He's insistent that Shadowhunters don't mature as slowly as mundanes (which.. fair) and makes bulleted lists and actions plans for every reason Magnus tries to say he deserves better/Magnus is too old/Alec is too young/etc.
And.. just how the Downworlders slide a stray Shirley Temple across the table for advice? Alec starts bringing little vouchers for a certain amount of advice time (or maybe little cupcakes or chocolate chip cookies that he makes for Jace and Izzy or something?) and slides them furtively across the table.
"Where might one take the High Warlock of Brooklyn out on a date?"
And then somehow two days later Magnus ends up in Central Park responding to a call from one of his warlocks and instead Alec is waiting there with a picnic lunch and a blanket and looking very, very smug.
This teenage Shadowhunter is outsmarting him. What even is this?
Also, Can you imagine the first time an old fling of Magnus' portals in to Pandemonium for the evening, expecting a night of fun, and the moment they ask where Magnus is at the bar, every Downworlder in hearing distance is glaring? Suddenly a good dozen wolves and vampires put aside their decades old fights and start running interference to keep this brazen interloper away from where Alec is holding court ranting about the Clave's shoddy grammar and lack of consistent position on Oxford commas (which, how dare) and how that can be used to interpret their latest ruling in three different ways, depending on what side you want to fight on.
(Magnus is sighing and staring dreamily from across the table.)
One day, Camille starts her usual nastiness and trying to get Magnus to come crawling back and Magnus feels .. nothing for her. The only thing Magnus feels is rage that Camille would try to interfere when he's clearly ... dating someone now.
And Magnus blinks wildly internally because holy shit he's dating Alec. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN MAGNUS DOES NOT KNOW
I do think Magnus would hold off on anything physical until Alec was what Magnus considered of age, so think how fun it would be to explore how the two of them date when their primary love language can't include sex?
Think of all the cuddles and the literal sleeping together and the hand holding and the forehead kisses and, excuse me but did I mention the cuddles? I really want Magnus and Alec cuddling on Magnus' throne at Pandemonium after a hard patrol and Alec falling asleep and all the Downworlders just kind of cooing at their very favorite nephilim.
(I also imagine an impressively oblivious pair of siblings who don't realize their brother isn't just moping in a corner while they dance for literal years.)
When Alec is older maybe Jace and Izzy start trying to subtly tell him it's okay to be gay, he doesn't have to hide it - they'll still love him, and Alec is just .. like .... 'what are you talking about?' as he smugly claims his gorgeous boyfriend.

Eternity Bores Me
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/WGNrasF by Siancore Bucky Barnes is a fairly young vampire. He was turned during the Second World War when the Jerry bastards were slaughtering everyone in Azzano. Got lost somewhere in the chaos and rubble. His whole unit thought he had died. And, in some ways, he had. After spending some time in Europe, not staying in one place for too long, he finally came home to Brooklyn. Figures there aren’t too many others like himself there so he could blend in. He isn’t too sure if it’ll be much different from Europe - a lot of solitude and figuring things out for himself. The thing is, Bucky’s never met anyone else who is a vampire. Figured out what he was from reading, and then watching moving pictures. He doesn’t think there’ll be anyone like him his old stomping ground. That Eddie Murphy picture was a crock o’ shit, right? Even so, Bucky doesn’t let people know what he is. It’s too dangerous. He’s had practice at hiding important parts of himself away. Even before the war. Words: 2956, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Fandoms: Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Explicit Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Categories: M/M Characters: James "Bucky" Barnes, Sam Wilson (Marvel) Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Vampire, Vampires, Vampire Sex, Blood Drinking, Explicit Sexual Content, Soul Bond, Dom/sub Undertones, Urban Fantasy, Implied/Referenced Homophobia, Love at First Sight, Love At First Bite - Freeform, Biting, Dramatic Gay Ass Vampires read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/WGNrasF

Scared Shitless in Seattle didn’t know how to cope. In 2022, consumed by the dread of climate change and the shame of their sexuality, they wrote into ¡Hola Papi!, the popular online advice column. “Ultimately, you’re right to be afraid. I’m afraid,” Papi responded, lovingly and precise. “But fear isn’t the only thing.”
Like every ¡Hola Papi! column, it was unflinchingly candid, incorporating all the hallmarks readers have come to enjoy: humor and pathos, love and sincerity, the occasional food reference. If you’ve ever read one of his columns, you know that nothing is off limits for Papi: threesomes, friendship drama, what to do when you are the weekend boyfriend, energy vampires, even, yes, our sometimes shared existential doom.
Papi was born John Paul Brammer, and grew up a closeted Catholic school kid in rural Oklahoma, a town so small Brammer’s mother was his ninth-grade English teacher. He was, he confesses, “always a little bit desperate to get out” of his hometown. After college he landed in DC, where he picked up work as a blogger for “one of those content mills,” he says. “I did a lot of clickbait articles, like, ‘With One Tweet Nancy Pelosi Just Slayed Republicans’—that kind of thing. I was responsible for a lot of the junk that you saw on the internet.”
But the job had hidden benefits. “I learned what makes people click on things and how to snag people’s attention in the blurry digital sea of the internet,” Brammer says. “I figured out what a unique voice looks like.”
It eventually paid off. When an opportunity arose, in 2017, to author a column, he unleashed ¡Hola Papi! into the world. It couldn’t have happened at a better time, Brammer tells me. He was trapped in freelance purgatory, writing for half a dozen outlets but not really making a splash like he’d wanted.
“My clearest distillation of that timeline was, I'm on the M train going from Ridgewood to 30 Rock, and I am exhausted because I didn't sleep the night before because I was up talking to some Russian source over the phone about the gay purge in Chechnya and I could barely understand what they were saying through their accent, and I'm on train composing a Teen Vogue puff piece in the Notes app on my iPhone about how Kylie Jenner matched her dress with her fidget spinner, and I just want to die.”
It was during that period that a friend, who just so happened to work at Grindr, suggested he contribute to their just-launched LGBTQ+ editorial website, called Into, a cheeky reference to gay hookup app parlance. Before long, Brammer’s column established him as the Chicano Carrie Bradshaw.
Today, in addition to his column, Brammer is also an author, illustrator, and essayist. From his apartment in Brooklyn, New York, he opened up about navigating doubt, living with cynicism, and why he’s never quitting Twitter, er, X.

I read books! Sometimes, I remember to talk about books!
Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite things I read in 2023. I'll put half of this under a cut to save the timeline.
Middle Grade:
When Life Gives You Mangos by Kereen Getten - This is a sweet story about friendship, grief, and family set in a close knit community in Jamaica following a young girl who can't remember anything that happened the previous summer. I don't read middle grade often so I wasn't expecting to be on the edge of my seat during this book, but I sure was!
Garlic & the Vampire by Bree Paulson - An anthropomorphic village of vegetables - what more could you ask for? When the village learns a vampire moved into a nearby castle, they decide Garlic has to be the one to face him. A cute, wholesome graphic novel - and the sequel Garlic & the Witch was also lovely!
Nonfiction:
A Mind Spread Out on the Ground by Alicia Elliott - This is a collection of essays by an Indegenous author covering a wide range of topics including race, gentrification, parenthood, and mental illness. I annotated the shit out of this book... which is always a sign of a well loved read in my house.
Bad Blood by John Carreyrou - A fascinating account by the journalist from the Wall Street Journal who broke open the case against Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes. The entire story is absolutely bananas and made for a wild read.
Excellent on Audio:
How to Be Perfect by Michael Shur - If you watched and enjoyed The Good Place, this audiobook should be required listening. Pretty much everyone from the cast pops in at random times to narrate something. It was also just a great, thought-provoking book. I actually read this for a work book club and it prompted me to finally finish The Good Place. Most successful book club pick ever.
Finding Me by Viola Davis - She won a Grammy for the narration of this book (and earning her rightful place as an EGOT) and it was well deserved. I'm not usually one for celebrity memoirs, but Viola's life was incredibly interesting and her narration was amazing.
Thriller/Horror:
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas - This is a Mexican, historical, gothic horror novel set after the Mexican War of Independence. It features a secluded, potentially haunted hacienda and a priest who might actually be a witch. Atmospheric vibes are peak here. Highly recommend listening to the spotify playlist the author made while you read!
No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole - The official blurb says "the gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood takes on a sinister new meaning" and that about sums it up. It also compares it to Get Out and that's a pretty good comp, in my opinion.
Poetry:
Artemis Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer - I'm not gonna lie, this poetry collection and the one in the series before it (Aphrodite Made Me Do It) were absolutely cover buys. The cover art is stunning! but luckily the inside is good too.
If My Body Could Speak by Blythe Baird - This collection deals a lot with the feminine experience, how we relate to our bodies and its traumas. Definitely check the trigger warnings for this collection first before picking it up.
Romance:
Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert - I'm not one to read a ton of romance books but I did enjoy a couple this year. This one was definitely the most explicit but also wholesome and something has to be said for being able to do both. Fun tropes include: fake dating & grumpy/sunshine.
Glitterland by Alexis Hall - While this is still a romance book at its core, it also deals heavily with depression. Fun tip with this book: definitely get the re-released edition with this cover because it has author annotation notes! It was very fun to read those at the end of every chapter.
Short & Quick Reads:
The Appendix by Liam Konemann - This is a very small little pocket book, part of the 404's Inklings collection. In it, Liam is reacting to transphobia he encounters through various media, but also discussing how he navigates being a gay trans man in today's culture.
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh - I think I would best describe this as a queer forest fairytale. I'm a sucker for any story that can transport me to a mythical forest and while this one clocks in at a little under 115 pages, it packed a good plant magic punch.
Misc Books I Couldn't Find a Category For:
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat - I never thought I would read this series, but I stumbled into the first one and then devoured the entire series in the span of 2 days. While I know the core of what people love about this is the love story... the political intrigue happening absolutely gripped me!
Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore - Another trope/plot device I love is time travel... or whatever weird timey wimey mess you would consider this: Oona faints after she's about to turn nineteen and awakens 32 years in the future in her 51 year old body. She learns that after each year completes, she'll leap to another age at random. It's as messy and complicated as it sounds but never a dull moment.
#books#reading#guardian reads (sometimes)#favorite reads of 2023#... i'm gonna take a moment in the tags to bitch about the covers of the captive prince series... why? why do they not have better covers?#even the one I chose here which I'd argue is the better cover... just does not do this series justice#you hate to see it#why am i awake at 2:30 am posting this? don't ask me ask my insomnia ok#book recs

Renfield (2023)
Date Watched: 4/14/2023
Gay: 4/10. Oh ho ho! I am dracula ;)
Twilight Influences: None. Starting to think we need wwdits influences this decade
Enjoyment: 8/10. Most of this comes from Nick Cage but Hoult is fine too I guess. I really love the aesthetics of this movie and cage's prosthetics are amazing but god I hate the cops and the mafia. Not every movie needs to be an action movie. That said, Ted was hilarious and I'm so glad his whole family became familiars I just thought that their plot didn't fit. I also loved all the therapy guys and god the "dracula's blood" was so good especially after such a funny scene (I think everyone in the theater was just losing their shit for a full 10 minutes and this movie that I dragged my friends to didn't actually make them hate me)
Vampies: Oh my god! Cage is one of the sickest vampires I've seen recently. The way he is both an ugly and attractive vamp at once is brilliant. His greenness is accentuated by lighting and I love all of his familiars. Their lore is strange though, like why do familiars get powers? Anyways 10/10
No sires (can he even sire people? Maybe it's a vampire in brooklyn thing)
Representative of 2020s? Too soon
Relative Popularity? Well it was advertised a lot but no one seemed to see it. I still loved it though and I'm glad I went in theaters.

Compilation and General Update
I've spend the evening reorganizing/archiving a lot of this blog, and I've noticed I talk around a lot of ideas rather than explaining them.
First on the docket, I revamped the organization system to be more streamlined and easier to use (at least for me, hopefully for visitors as well). Secondly, I archived a lotta (most) projects that I'm not really reserving brain space for at the moment. They're all in varying states of archived-ness in my brain, but they're all squished into one folder for blog purposes.
I'll continue to use this blog for resources, inspiration, challenges, and the like, but I have also picked out the Big Projects throughout the years to organize them better.
Current Projects
Handholding through Hell: the translation of a current dnd campaign into more traditional prose storytelling. Five party members wake up in a hell-like demi-plane with no knowledge of how they got there. On their hunt for a way back home, they discover that their pasts have followed them (or brought them?) here.
All or Nothing: Widofjord Uni AU, loosely based on the novel Coffee Cake. Heavy focus on Fjord, who needs to save his slipping grades to keep his athletic scholarship for rowing. Secondary focus on Caleb, who's recovering from some very intense drama in his ridiculously competitive academic program by working at the local cat cafe. Caleb offers to tutor Fjord and they begin to explore a romance. A semi-magic USA university AU in which Mollymauk deals fake IDs, Artagan’s a disillusioned ex-grad student, and Yasha gets to major in gardening.
BeauYasha Kidfic: Inspired by domestic beauyasha in the m9 epilogue, a vague idea of a future fic in which they help fjord overturn the orphanage that harmed him and end up with a half-orc kid of their own. got spooked when a lot of the after talk was quite similar to this idea and put it down.
Archived Original Projects
Vampire Apocalypse: Steampunk Lady Pirates: Hollywood fell to a vampire underground, and one young woman spearheads a resistance of sky pirates, all to get her sister back.
Antonita, the Spanish Contrabandista: A rewrite/update/retelling of an 1850s novella of a female pirate and her adventures with a Texan navy captain and his wife.
Outlander & Urchin: A traditional western fantasy story about two orphans who help each other survive while a magical war wages across the land. Reunited as adults, they realize their lives may be bigger than they thought.
Golden Gay Bridge (aka Gone): technically my undergrad thesis & 2016 nano project. A young woman loses her mother to cancer and goes on a roadtrip to find her elusive biological father and unearth half of herself.
Archived Fanfiction Projects
Rockstar AU: Louis is a rockstar; Harry is the label's new popstar. The two are forced to tour together for publicity. Liam is management, Niall is Harry's bestie, Zayn is Louis's bestie. Harry/Louis enemies to besties main plot, Ziall + Louam subplots.
Playboy AU: Harry runs an escort business; Louis and Niall are bunnies, Zayn and Liam are bartenders (Ziall + Louam)
Uni+ AU: Niall and Zayn fall in love at University, but their futures conspire against them – until they meet again. Essentially a uni!AU + a second chance trope.
Proposal AU: a ziall retelling of The Proposal (2009). That's it. That's the project. ALT: Cutting Edge AU (similar premise).
B99/1D crossover: Requested by bestie in like... 2015. An AU in which the 1d boys are Brooklyn police officers. Will likely not touch this one again.

@zombearzy tagged me in sum silly thing so I GUESS I will do it (I am bored) love u/p
3 Ships
I don't exactly ship anything that doesn't have to do with OC's, but for this, I will try to keep it to Canon characters only. Is it a coincidence all of these have to do with characters I kin strongly? Probably not. I obsess over specific characters when I kin them. that is probably the reason LMAO.
• Donatello x Casey Jones (TMNT 2012)
My one and only. To be honest, I haven't been that into shipping recently other than Jonatello. You can't look at those two boys and tell me there isn't gay tension. They totally want to kiss and hold hands secretly.
• Papyrus x Mettaton (Undertale)
An OG!!!!!!!! Dumb little guy pulls hottest hunk known to man! Metatton so got nervous holding his hand, and when Papyrus asked him what was wrong, he said it was just a robot thing and he wouldn't understand (He was feeling gay).
• Tillman x Glenn (BKMN)
Literally, my only reasoning for this is that I kin Tillman and Glenn is so hot. My baby girl. He would cuddle Tillman all day... little guys..
First Ship
I don't really know, If I were to guess it would probably be some cringey thing all the way back from the first fandoms I was in when I was around 11. Either something like Bonnie x Chica (FNAF), Toriel x Sans (Undertale), or Frisk x a friends minecraft OC (Undertale). Tbh it was probably Frisk and the friends OC, it was such a cute ship. Maybe ill make a OC based off that somehow :3.
Last Song
The last song I listened to is My First Kiss by 3OH!3!!! This is quite shocking because I usually only listen to Set It Off, Falling in Reverse, and Pierce the Veil. But I guess I'm just in a silly little mood right now!
Last Movie
The last movie I watched was probably the new Ninja Turtle movie, Mutant Mayhem. I watched it like 3 times in theaters, LMAO, and I don't watch/pay attention to movies when I'm watching them in someone's home.
Currently Reading
Currently, I'm reading the TMNT IDW comics! I got the book with the comics 1-12 , so right now I'm reading that, and when I'm done, I'll buy the second book! if it's not obvious yet, I have a very big hyperfixation with TMNT right now.
Currently Watching
Currently I am watching a couple shows! TMNT 2012, obviously, as well as Brooklyn 99 and What We Do In The Shadows. I've already watched Brooklyn 99 multiple times before, but I love how funny it is :3. What We Do In The Shadows is my favorite so far, though. It's a mix between Brooklyn 99 and The Office, only with vampires!! It's a bit sexual (mostly jokes, nothing super explicit) but it makes it funny so I think it's great!
Currently Consuming
Currently? Nothing. Just some water, but I'm about to make some chicken wings! or if my sister already got to them, I'll make some bacon :3
Currently Craving
Poutine. God I want pouting so bad right now, or some popcorn chicken. I'm craving so much! Cookies and cream milkshake.. Cookie dough blizzard.... Noodles!!!!!!! rahh!!! I want to eat the world!!!!
Now.. I will tag....
no one!! L!! suck it!!!!! I don't know anyone on tumblr. I'm just chillin' like a villain.

Thanks for the tag! Here we go! I’m currently working on Night Of The Blue Moon, which is the first in a two-book series about adult magical girls who fight with powers given to them by the Greek titans. It’s an urban fantasy romance which will deal with some pretty heavy topics, such as police and political corruption, as well as sexual assault and workplace abuse. I like to think of it as a gay adult Miraculous Ladybug x Percy Jackson crossover (Both main characters are women, and they’re in love but don’t know it. They’re oblivious to each other’s secret identities, which leads to some love square shenanigans…). Anyway, Night Of The Blue Moon will be the first book in the series, and the main villain will be Orpheus, who is killing people and harvesting their souls in an attempt to buy his son back from the dead. The second book’s main villain will be Eunomia Morrigan, a nurse who is using Thanatos’s powers to kill the patients she doesn’t want to treat. I don’t have a title for the second book yet, but it will likely come out after I’ve published Blood On A Yellow Rose, a standalone work unrelated to Night Of The Blue Moon. Blood On A Yellow Rose is going to be about an aromantic vampire doctor who befriends an also aromantic terminally ill human patient who is dying alone due to their friends abandoning them.
Character List (This is not a complete character list, as I have yet to write the second book, or even come up with a coherent plot, but this is what I have so far):

Forgive the stupidity, but what is "The Willow Effect"? I'm guessing it's a reference or something? Thanks x
Oh it's not a real thing, it's just something I made up lol.
Basically, if you've ever seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there's a character named Willow who gets a boyfriend in Season 2 or 3 named Oz, who's played by Seth Green.
Not long after Oz leaves the show, Willow falls in love with a woman named Tara and from then on explicitly identifies as a lesbian (an argument can be made that she's actually bi, but most people accept that she's lesbian but either experienced comphet or a change in sexuality (fluidity). Pick whatever explanation you like. This was in like 2001 and the fight to make Willow gay was challenging enough that you can't expect a seamless result).
Now here's the thing: I actually really loved Seth Green's character Oz - he's one of my favorite parts of the show despite only appearing in a couple seasons. And I always loved his relationship with Willow. The two were sweet together, and he helped her grow a bit. But I also love Willow's uncloseted & unashamed lesbian existence in later seasons, and I fucking ADORE her relationship Tara aside from a few blatantly toxic behaviors that Willow had but this isn't the time or place for that.
How do I reconcile loving both lesbian!Willow and the Willow/Oz ship in the same canon? Easy, I just don't worry about it. To quote Amy Santiago from Brooklyn Nine-Nine: "I can love two things."
And this is what I call the Willow effect. My willingness to both fawn over a female character's relationship with a character played by Seth Green while also remaining adamant that this character is, in fact, a lesbian, and to be unbothered by the apparent contradiction.
Anyway, the only reason I made up this damn term in the first place is the sheer irony of this happening twice to Seth Green, the second being in Scooby-Doo with Velma. Do I believe all versions of Velma deserve to be lesbian? Absolutely. Do I find Velma and Patrick in SD2 to be cute together? Also yes. And because I've seen this before in BTVS, I'm comfortable accepting these two facts as simultaneously true.
#that explanation was unnecessarily long for which i apologize#i will not however be trimming it#answerededed#//turningvioletviolet#my post#btvs#buffy the vampire slayer#scooby doo 2: monsters unleashed#velma#seth green#velma and patrick#willow rosenberg#willow and oz

20+ Books That You (Might Actually Want) To Read During Pride Month!
Right, so. I got annoyed after seeing the list referenced in this post last night, told myself that my books are all packed up so I couldn’t do anything about it, and lasted all of a whopping 10 minutes before picking up my phone and attempting to make my own list instead. Behold, my from-memory attempt to present 20 books with strong LGBTQ plots, characters, and/or authors, that DON’T just rely on Suffering and Identity Politics and are... you know... fun.
Listed in alphabetical order by title. Links take you to Bookshop.org, where you can buy them from your local independent bookstore at a discount and NOT from the evil empire.
1. A Master of Djinn – P. Djeli Clark * author of color * steampunk Cairo in 1912 * djinn! magic! murder mystery! * butch Arab lesbian main character * devout hijabi Muslim badass assistant * anticolonial alternate history
2. An Accident of Stars – Foz Meadows (Sequel: A Tyranny of Queens) * trans author * bi, pan, trans, aro representation * racially diverse characters * all female POV characters * high-fantasy world adventures
3. Boyfriend Material – Alexis Hall * queer author * look I love this book SO MUCH and have absolutely screamed about it before but also I LOVE IT SO MUCH * contemporary M/M fake dating in modern London, complete with full cast of disaster found-family queer friends * it is. fucking. HILARIOUS. I almost died the first time reading it * there is a sequel called HUSBAND MATERIAL scheduled to be released in 2022; I am a normal amount of excited for this book
4. Gideon the Ninth – Tamsyn Muir (Sequel: Harrow the Ninth) * the book cover says “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted palace in space!” * that is exactly what you get * slow-burn enemies-to-lovers F/F main romance * I cannot describe this book, it is dark, genre-bendy, science fiction-y, Hunger-Games-with-lesbian-necromancers-in space? Kinda? I have literally never read anything like it * also fucking HILARIOUS
5. One Last Stop – Casey McQuiston * queer author (who wrote Red White and Royal Blue) * bisexual fat girl from the South/lesbian-daughter-of-Chinese immigrants from the 1970s-riot-grrl main romance * time traveling mystery involving the Q train in Brooklyn (mentions Brighton Beach ahem) * magical realism * many more found-family chaotic queers including a trans Latino psychic and a Black accountant by day/drag queen by night and the mean little gay disaster who has a hopeless crush on them
6. Parasol Protectorate (series) – Gail Carriger * this is one of my favorite series, and there are five books: Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and Timeless * steampunk vampires/werewolves late Victorian London, like Jane Austen crossed with P.G. Wodehouse (they are all fucking hilarious) * pretty much everyone is queer; we got your flamboyantly camp gay vampires (Lord Akeldama ftw!) We got your gay werewolves! We got your lesbian French inventors! We got your big disaster idiot werewolf main male love interest! We got your crazy adventures! You name it we got it! * two spin-off novellas: Romancing the Werewolf (M/M) and Romancing the Inventor (F/F) * she has a ton more books in this same universe and writes sexy queer supernatural romance as G.L. Carriger
7. Plain Bad Heroines – Emily M. Danforth * queer author * historical horror-comedy set between a haunted girls’ school in early-1900s New England and in the modern day * all sapphic female main characters * plays with style/form/voice, a story within a story within a story
8. Red White and Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston * you’ve probably heard of it but here I am reccing it again * the biracial son of the first female POTUS falls in love with the Prince of England; shenanigans absolutely ensue * yes, the British monarchy still absolutely sucks a big fat dick * hilarious, heartfelt, reads like fanfic, just go get it, it will change your life
9. Rosaline Palmer Takes The Cake – Alexis Hall * same author as Boyfriend Material, this is his newest * bisexual female protagonist * absolutely perfect satire of The Great British Bake Off (you can tell this man has watched EVERY SINGLE SERIES and all of the holiday specials) * sweet and surprisingly thoughtful
10. Starless – Jacqueline Carey * genderqueer/transmasculine main character of color * almost all main characters are brown people! * lush Middle Eastern/India-inspired fantasy world * gods, prophecies, monsters * the best Oh God Why Me I Am A Horrible Mentor wise-old-mentor
11. The Future of Another Timeline – Annalee Newitz * nonbinary (they/them) author * time travel but make it The Handmaid’s Tale * will probably make your head explode * feminist, queer, subversive * diverse characters

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzi Lee * queer author * technically YA but historical/magical adventure set in the 1700s * bisexual disaster main protagonist and love interest of color * (mis)adventures across Europe * has a sequel (see below) with the badass asexual sister of the protagonist
13. The Hate Project – Kris Ripper * nonbinary/genderqueer author * M/M enemies to lovers/sex with no strings attached (spoiler alert: strings attached) * HECKING HILARIOUS * sweet, escapist, and very low stakes * diverse characters, including fat protagonist with realistic anxiety disorder
14. The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy – Mackenzi Lee * PIRATES, obviously * sequel to Gentleman’s Guide * asexual female protagonist * strong queerplatonic f/f friendship * more historical/magical 18th century adventures
15. The Last Rune (series) – Mark Anthony * Imma be real with you chief, I haven’t read this series since I was a clueless teenager with no idea why I liked Gay Stuff so much, so if it does turn out to suck now, don’t throw rotten veggies at me * but especially since it was written in the NINETIES, this series was hella progressive?! * gay characters, disabled characters, characters of color, all playing significant and heroic roles in six-book epic fantasy cycle * people from Earth end up in high-fantasy world of Eldh * endgame M/M romance for the main character * books out of print, I think, but you can find them cheap somewhere like AbeBooks; first one (Beyond the Pale) linked above
16. The Library of the Unwritten – A.J. Hackwith * queer author * heaven-hell-Valhalla supernatural adventures * The Good Place x Good Omens x Lucifer x The Librarians * Pansexual Black badass female heroine * Queer found families * The Sassiest TM Bisexual Villain Turned Reluctant Hero (is he my favorite? Why on earth would you think that.)
17. The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon * epic doorstopper science fiction/historical fantasy set in a vaguely 16th-century world * main F/F romance between a queen and her sorceress bodyguard * sassy old gay alchemist whose backstory will give you Feelings * so many strong women and characters of color * no homophobia! marriage is fully gender-neutral, spouses are called “companions”
18. The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller * likewise one you have probably heard of but still * a little light on the myth/historical part imho, but the writing is beautiful and will give you many feelings * M/M romance between Achilles and Patroclus * reimagining of The Iliad (her other book Circe is also really good)
19 The Stars are Legion – Kameron Hurley * all-female apocalyptic space opera * messy messy antiheroines * grimdark war fantasy * queer sci-fi drama
20. Witchmark – C.L. Polk * author of color * M/M romance * main character is a veteran and a doctor dealing with his own hidden magic and repressed war trauma * gaslamp fantasy set in a world reminiscent of post-WWI England * strong sibling relationship
