With today’s Play Date, we started with drawing another Samurai sword, but then we started drawing a mongoose, which is my student’s favorite animal. The mongoose and my student talked about what food they eat and then drew them. Mongoose eat pretty dangerous, things like scorpions and cobras. My student wanted to share his orange with the mongoose, so I drew an orange for him to try. On 11/20/2019 @maggiejeannesiegel and I had an art play date and made 4 single sheet books for @heavy.bubble biannual #ritualbookshow opening Dec 6 in Philadelphia at 1241 Carpenter St studios. These books are acrylic ink and pens on a 11”x 17” piece of oak tag paper folded into a 5.5”x4.5” book. We made these together, passing back and forth, asking what each other thought about what we were doing...does it need a little more? A different color? Something tiny? Something big? We didn’t worry about making our own art. We just played and experimented and doodled together. These 4 books are called “Playdate” and are available for sale for $75 each plus shipping. Yesterday’s Art Play Date was so fun! Today in our Art Play Date, he showed me his Samurai play sword, and so I decided to draw a Samurai soldier. He talked to the Samurai soldier and we pretended to be in battle. The soldiers talked about all the protective equipment he had to wear to protect himself in battle.
