Throwback Saturday to 10years ago, my audience in the picture were 99.8% Chinese. As it happened to be a Chinese party. What aided my performance then was the popular saying; "music is a universal language." I had to perform a solo and sing with no accompaniment. Just vocals. The least of my worries were the accompaniment. As my major concern was how I would convey my message to my audience so they could easily relate and understand. After my introduction, as soon as i picked up the microphone the whole room became so silent. And for a moment, as I looked at their faces smiling, I was able to translate their silence to mean sensitivity. I knew every little thing I do counts. From my movement, my facial expression, my posture & gestures. I decided to be deliberate in my delivery. Cirque du Soleil meets Poggenpohl and Blanco at the Mandarin Residential

When in Vegas, a Cirque du Soleil performance is an experience to embrace. In this city of bright lights and spectacle, this art is all about magical acrobatics, strength, endurance and a mastering of all the nuances. One can only imagine the level of dedication it would take, possibly a lifetime’s worth, to make it all appear effortless and thoroughly entertaining.

At the top of the Las Vegas strip, our Blog Tour Vegas team experienced an art based on the very same principles. The performances took place at the luxurious and contemporary Mandarin Residential penthouses, situated at MGM CityCenter. Yes, this was about design.

As guests, we shared an evening in the world of beautiful lifestyle and design excellence. Our evening’s theme was the Art of Performance. Our rather loud gathering of bloggers and creators were quickly quieted when two performance artists with backgrounds in ballet and Cirque du Soleil took centre floor and danced a most breathtaking routine, all without music. The raw and silent form of precise movement was all that expressed the beauty; the ideal; perfection. This paragon is what we were all here to experience and to celebrate.

One of the design world’s best-known luxury brands, Poggenpohl, was at the heart of it all. Neil Bailey, the President of Poggenpohl U.S., proudly introduced us to the 120-year old kitchen brand. He aligned its journey with a level of art and performance which could only be realized and seen as effortless through years of imagination, innovation and engineering. With design teams and factories based in Germany, this is state-of-the-art. Being at the top of their field where performance reaches art form is the vision of a Poggenpohl kitchen.

Here in these impressive suites, the focus was on personalization to accommodate needs for entertaining, cooking, storage and lifestyle. Legendary for its organization, Poggenpohl’s exquisite design goes well beyond the aesthetics. This is all about bespoke detailing from the inside to outside. Tailored drawer configurations are designed to suit the individual. Exceptional is the engineering of their drawer boxes that are strong enough to stand in and incredibly thin allowing for more space inside. Innovative touches to maximize space include placing runners and slides on the bottom as opposed to the sides. All these are the things that can make a substantial difference in function and performance and contribute to the statement of a well-designed kitchen. 

At a glance, Poggenpohl drawer systems reveal everything and keep items in place.

The 'Black Glass Kitchen' model was a standout for me and expresses contemporary luxury in its finest form. A walnut wood veneer with a sleek black glass accent on the upper cabinets is chic and graphic. Emphasizing horizontal line, the natural graining on the perimeter millwork is presented in a fashion-forward grey tone with a clear lacquer finish.  

It’s the mixing of materials that gives this kitchen its eclectic contemporary vibe. The white mirror-like flooring and glass with marble mosaic backsplash stand in brilliant contrast to the natural wood.

The island with its sand grey finish is topped with a striking book-matched stone with a waterfall edge. Who needs art on the walls!

Contributing to a network of luxury and performance are high-quality Dacor appliances of black glass detailing and the unique and ultra durable solid surfaces of Dekton and Cosentino. A sleek charcoal Dekton Domoos strikes a beautiful and clean balance between the organic and modern lines of this kitchen. 

Aligned with each outstanding Poggenpohl kitchen is another luxury brand with a three-generation history and a commitment to high quality and innovative design. BLANCO, with its European heritage and German engineering, is passionate about its elevated standards for luxury sinks, faucets and decorative accessories.

High tech fittings such as the BLANCO Precision R10 SteelArt sink and CULINA professional style faucet are featured in this kitchen.

The award-winning CULINA faucet features an innovative magnetic hook-up and closed coil system for easy cleaning. It's a beauty! 

Having incorporated the Precision sink into a few of our projects, I know that this one's a masterpiece. It's elegant and sleek with rounded corner seams and is handcrafted in 18-gauge stainless steel.

The next penthouse we toured through did not disappoint. It featured the 'Contemporary White Kitchen' with a keen eye towards maximizing space and entertaining. Poggenpohl's +Segmento concept presents high gloss Polar White and Pebble Grey lacquer with laser edging for a cohesive architectural look.This kitchen articulates line and space beautifully with sleek 12mm thick worktops and handle free cabinet fronts. A straightforward and pure minimalism.

 Its aluminum drawer designs focus on increased storage space and include customized inserts with a non-slip linoleum base.

The BLANCO Alta Faucet with a pull-out dual spray function connects seamlessly here. Its single-lever handle and streamlined spout contribute a modern and geometric vibe.

In the third Mandarin Residential penthouse, Poggenpohl created a professional kitchen environment called 'Le Cordon Bleu Inspired Kitchen'.

Sleek lacquer finishes and professional fixtures, inclusive of an integrated wine station, gives this space a modern restaurant feel. 

Dacor's 42" Discovery Chimney Hood stands as a focal point with a deliberate asymmetry in a one-wall arrangement of upper cabinetry.

Beautifully designed from inside to outside the drawers and pullouts are about performance and customization. 

Our gathering put this kitchen and its performance driven fittings to the test. BLANCO's CULINA professional style faucet and Precision Steel Art sink did everything they were designed and crafted to do here while still contributing to the beauty of the space.
