Sam had always been his to love, cherish, and protect, and Dean would do anything within his power to ensure that he was the only one that Sam looked at as if he hung the moon.

There was no other bonds, familial or otherwise, that mattered as much to the two young Winchester boys as the relationships they had with each other.

Or so he thought. Enter Lucifer - the first Michael Sword. Lucifer buys Dean under the pretense of using him as a sex slave. In reality, Lucifer knows how dangerous Dean can be, and wants to use him to help take over the Below.

As Dean and Lucifer get closer, they begin to realize that Dean’s abduction was not an accident at all.

Posting day for the novel tomorrow, or probably midnight tonight. I’ve been working on drafting it today, adding the pictures (huge anticipatory shout-out to my artist @ncdover1285, who from day 1 really got the vibe I was going for and came up with some excellent ideas) and formatting and generally trying to make it presentable.

And…man, am I having mixed feelings. On the one hand—holy shit! I wrote a novel! I took maybe two minutes of screen time and five lines of dialogue and invented a whole-ass character from it and had her tell her story! I spent most of my free time over the last six months working on this story and I’m proud of it.

On the other hand…god, I don’t know. There’s the sudden unmoored-ness of not having this all-consuming project to hyperfixate on. There’s the blank unknown of whether anyone will read or engage with it. And, at this point, there’s the complete inability to discern whether this story is any good or not—I think it is, my betas tell me it is, but I’ve been staring at it so long I just feel…impatient, whenever I look at it. Like it’s a teenager who’s ready to move out but hasn’t yet.

And, of course, that’s it, really. It’s not mine anymore. The work has to stand on its own, and I won’t be able to control how many people read it, or how they react to it. It might sink like a stone. It might become a fandom classic. (It might sink like a stone and then become a fandom classic—there’s just no telling.) Most likely, it’ll get a few hundred reads, a thoughtful comment or three (and I will cherish each one)…but ultimately it doesn’t matter. I will be, so far as the work is concerned, obsolete, my feelings irrelevant. Which is as it should be.

I dunno. I’m not saying anything new, really. But the one thing that really does keep popping up as I ruminate: I’m grateful. For the time I’ve spent working on this, for the folks that’ve cheered me on, for the defiance that kept my head held high through the inevitable existential crises. Nobody achieves a twenty-year dream alone; I feel incredibly lucky for the help I’ve had with mine.
