I Miss 2020

I miss 2020. I miss when I pulled up Folklore on Spotify and rediscovered Taylor and freaked out over Evermore and watched Miss Americana and thought Taylor was the greatest person on earth. I miss being ignorant and being able to enjoy her music in peace. I'm no stranger to her controversies (I used to have a blog dedicated to her but deleted it after the Ginny & Georgia fiasco), but somehow I convinced myself to just move on. It was my white privilege I guess, that told me I could still maintain a relationship with her. (Albeit a critical one).

But now?

I just can't. I can't defend her anymore. Taylor's not an idiot. Her team aren't idiots. They know full well who M*tty He*lly is and they don't care. They are, in their good conscience, associating (and in Taylor's case dating) He*ally, a (now) known racist, anti-semite, queerphobe, Islamaphobe, etc. They don't care about who he is. Taylor doesn't care about who he is. She's just in it for herself. And I in good faith cannot continue supporting her. Like, at all. And I feel so lost.

I have multiple of her CDs. She was my top artist on Spotify wrapped last year. I have a fucking CALENDER of her on my wall. She meant a lot to me. Her music means a lot to me. Just last week I was flipping out over Spean Now TV. But how can I listen to it now? How can I still give her my money knowing who she truly is? I can't hide from it anymore.

For those who say this a PR stunt, it's a fucking horrible one. If I were on her team I would have shut this down before it even started. "All press is good press" well sometimes the press isn't worth it. Sometimes it blows up in your face. And I HOPE it blows up in Taylor's face. I hope she regrets this for the rest of her life. Because she should know better! Her team should know better! Shame on them! Taylor, who made a whole documentary about her "stepping into politics" and standing up for minority rights, should know enough that she needs to stick to her word. But she also knows she's a rich white billionaire so IG we know what truly drives her morals.

And for those who say M*tty's just doing a bit or that we should just let her be happy, A) M*tty is a grown-ass man. A grown-ass man does not use bigotry as a "bit" in good conscience. If he thinks it's funny as a bit then he thinks it's funny actually. B) Nobody's happiness is worth more than those who are hurt by it, celebrity or not. Taylor is 33. She knows what she's doing. She sees the controversy. And she's basking in it.

To all the Jewish, Muslim, and POC swifties who are hurting right now, I'm so sorry. You deserve someone better. Your pain is more valid than her money. You have my utmost support.

i know i'm only a fan of like one artist that regularly charts and also a fan of the band that wrote "only get lonely when you read the charts" and "i'm less pissed we didn't make it to the year end best list" but it's utterly insane to me the way no one appreciates true art anymore, that everything has to be a hand holding experience as the artist walks you through what they've created, and that lyrics that take a genuinely long while to digest are being picked apart as bad while artists making the most basic rhyme schemes are being praised as innovative like be so fucking serious

59th Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards (2024)

So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would like to talk about the 59th Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards hosted by Reba McEntire. The show streamed on Prime Video by Amazon on Thursday May 16th, 2024 at 8pm EST (Eastern Standard Time) and the red carpet special an hour earlier at 7pm. And up first we will talk about who won what and as usual who should have won according to the stats from the MSR (Midnight Star Report) which is my weekly list.

Awards (Who won and who should have won) New ACM Male Vocalist of the year goes to Nate Smith (Looking at the choices, I would say this is the correct pick). Visual Media of the year goes to Parker McCollum - Burn it down (Some tough choices could have gone to Cody Johnson or Jordan Davis). ACM New Duo of the year goes to Tigerlily Gold (Not a lot of choices here but maybe Restless Road). ACM New Female of the year goes to Megan Moroney (She was the only choice with any chart success really except Ashley Cooke). Song of the year goes to Jordan Davis - Next thing you know (This could have gone to Cody or Luke as well). Duo of the year goes to Dan + Shay (They are the only ones to have any chart success this year out of these selections). Group of the year goes to Old Dominion (The only one who had any chart success out of the selections). Single of the year goes to Luke Combs - Fast Car (This could have gone to Morgan Wallen as well). Male Artist of the year goes to Chris Stapleton (This could have gone to any of the artists). Female Artist of the year goes to Lainey Wilson (She had more chart success than the rest of the selections). Music Event of the year goes to Jelly Roll & Lainey Wilson - Save me (This song had the most success of all the selections). Album of the year goes to Chris Stapleton (This had good choices for album of the year, which could have gone to anyone). Artist-Songwriter of the year goes to Chris Stapleton as well. Entertainer of the year goes to Lainey Wilson (This one should have gone to Luke or Morgan).

And that's a wrap for the awards, now let's talk about the performances from the night.

Jelly Roll - Liar. Kelsea Ballerini with Noah Kahan - Mountain with a view/ Stick season. Tigerlily Gold - I tried a ring on. Cody Johnson - Dirt cheap (Performance of the night). Miranda Lambert - Wranglers. Kane Brown - Georgia's always on my mind. Thomas Rhett - Beautiful as you. Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton - Purple Irises. Jason Aldean - Should've been a cowboy (Tribute to Toby Keith). Chris Stapleton with Dua Lipa - Think I'm in love with you. Post Malone - Never love you again -> I had some help. Reba McEntire & Post Malone - Ramblin' man (Allman Brothers tribute). Parker McCollum - Burn it down. Nate Smith & Avril Lavigne - Bulletproof. Reba McEntire - I can't.

And that's a wrap for the performances with Cody Johnson in my opinion having the best performance of the night. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this show a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It had some shocking moments and some choices were just too easy to pick. Jordan winning an ACM was awesome. And Reba did host for the 17th time overall. speaking of kelsea ballerini, i only know (1) song by her called yeah boy or smth and whenever it came on i would ascend dimensions her voice is soooooo

anyways if i were to start listening to her, what would you recommend starting with? any albums or?

i loooove kelsea!!! her voice IS sooooooooo i don't blame you. i feel like a good place to start could be her most recent album, subject to change! the ep she released earlier this year has also blown up a lot (maybe you've heard penthouse) but i'd say to start with something more Typical kelsea

While I don’t hate this look, it just doesn’t feel cohesive to me. Kelsea’s hair and makeup just don’t work with the dress for me. The really dark eye makeup just doesn’t fit the bright yellow color of the dress. It makes the makeup look almost costumey. The dark eyes needed a darker dress. I really like the canary yellow on Kelsea, and dress design. The button down look was very interesting, but it wasn’t a complete outfit to me. It felt just thrown together.
