I’m in a music phase rn, who are your favourite bands and artists?
OH! Oh oh oh oh oh! Okay okay okay I love talking music.
Okay so I love like rock more than anything, so a lot of my suggestions are gonna be rock. Not totally but yeah.
I’m also gonna throw in like some instrumental bands because this is stuff I listen to while working, so there’s great background music without lyrics to mess with my thoughts, ya know? You can ignore those if you want. I’ll mark those in red, okay?
So in no particular order:
Skillet
Fireflight
TobyMac
Switchfoot
E.S. Posthumus
Florence + the Machine
John Williams
Ke$ha
Krystal Meyers
NEEDTOBREATHE
Hans Zimmer
Howard Shore
Lindsey Sterling
Jordan Feliz
Billy Joel
Bon Jovi
Journey
Queen
Two Steps from Hell
Alan Silvestri
Teenage Mutants
Blink-182
Guns N’ Roses
Smash Mouth
Duran Duran

I FINALLY FINISHED THESE LITTLE descriptions. Got back into the mood of sitcoms but kind of fucked up and basically we've got a TV station that is struggling with money and layoffs and then their office is torn into NOWHERE! Into the abyss! BUT WHO'S GONNA SPONSOR US NOW?
Tumblr media
Riley Beedleman
WX00's top dog and front man. Optimistic people-pleaser who seems loosely capable of his management position. But his charisma on TV is unparalleled! (Not really.)
Tumblr media
May Geller
On-site newscaster. Originally a writer who was forced to fill a spot made by the loss of several of WX00's employees. Not necessarily a Tele-genic person, and chooses to reflect as such on TV.
Tumblr media
Katlyn Romanoff
Part of the channel's News Team, usually on the scene of whatever interesting thing deserves boots on the ground. Bright and fast-paced, if not a little scatter-brained. (As in sometimes she catches a train of thought and has trouble hopping off of it on camera)
Tumblr media
Anthony Earnst
Sound Guy and in-house music producer. Pretentious and classically trained, Anthony had intentions of being the next John Williams or Alan Silvestri. Or Beethoven. Instead he is here at a struggling TV station. Still takes his job very seriously, sometimes to jokey and fun loving Riley's chagrin.
Tumblr media
Bernie Hemmingway
The backbone of WX00, its one and only tech guy after a slew of layoffs. Bernie manages switchboards, cameras, and oiling the boss's very squeaky desk chair. The resulting outcome is a very tired man who has found solace in caffine. However, the jitters have made mistakes on the teleprompter common.
Tumblr media
Jenna Wright
WX00's make-up artist. Jenna is very talented, able to make any face look stunning on camera. Unfortunately, Jenna is very overworked, and very anxious. Nor is she very social, meaning that her job always manages to feel more like hell than heaven.
i have a lot more thoughts about this that I will show you when I am less tired in the morning but I at least wanted to introduce you to my wonderful cast. Womp.

Blog 7 - Finding Music in Nature
This week, we were asked to answer two questions: Where is music in nature? Where is nature in music?
Music has always been a big part of my upbringing, and I can say with confidence that it has played a huge role in the way that I function to this day. Music, like nature, gives us a place to put our thoughts and emotions, and gives us an opportunity to think and interpret them. I think that, as with nature, everyone has a very personal experience with music. Some people grew up with it as part of their culture, some people like country music, some people hate country music. An artist may have a feeling in mind when they write a song, and intend for it to be interpreted a certain way, but everyone who listens to it may interpret it completely differently.
Nature and music are similar and they also overlap, one of my first memories of discovering music in nature was when I watched the movie August Rush as a child. There is a scene where the main character is walking through a field and acting like a composer, feeling the sound of wind moving through the grass. This opened a whole new world of sound to me, whereas before music was confined to pianos, guitars, flutes, violins, vocals, and other man-made instruments. Now, I can hear music in nature all the time, in the sound of the wind moving through the lush green trees, in the sound of rainwater dripping off a leaf and into a puddle, in the sound of birds singing out to mates, even the sound of silence, when in nature, is like music to my ears.
Nature also inspires people and animals to make their own music, for instance, a song that always makes me think of the ocean is “Cast Away” by Alan Silvestri. This song was composed for the film Cast Away–you know the one where Tom Hanks gets stranded on an island?–and is made to sound like the tide slowly moving in and then retreating. The dynamics and rhythm of the composition are both free and also structured, reminding me of the nature of the ocean. Similar to the scene in August Rush, whales compose their own music using repeating themes and phrases, tone and timbre, and by mixing percussive, noisy, and pure tones (Gray et al., 2001). This makes me wonder if whales would be interested in hearing our music too! Both of these are examples of nature in music, and how nature both creates and inspires its own melodic creations.
After reading about nature and music this week, it has made me want to start to record more sounds in nature rather than capturing photos and videos.

how to make a wip playlist
@writingwithacutlass on instagram <3
source: me :)
hello and welcome back to my page! today’s post is exciting because i absolutely l o v e making playlists for my wip and characters. i know lots of you have playlists for your wip, but i’m sure many of you are wondering where to start, where to find songs that fit your wip’s vibes, etc. luckily for you, i’m here to help you with that :) let’s get on with the post!
characters
probably the first thing you want to brainstorm songs for is your characters. i prefer to make individual playlists for each of my main characters, but you can add these songs to your wip playlist as well. things to think about: their childhood, their personality, pivotal events in their life, their relationships, etc.
plot
the second thing you’ll want to find songs for is your wip’s plot. what songs would be playing during certain scenes in your wip if it was adapted into a movie? it can be helpful to think of your wip playlist as a soundtrack! for example, if your wip contains lots of battle scenes, artists like ruelle and valerie broussard have some very cool battlefield-type songs! if you’re writing a contemporary romance, find some fluff songs like cloud 9, or some angsty or sad breakup songs such as champagne problems or last kiss by taylor swift.
vibes
this is key to creating a perfect wip playlist! okay maybe this is just me since literally everything i do is based on ✨vibes✨ but you know what i mean. think movie soundtracks—the overall vibes of the song are just as important as the lyrics. is it ethereal or spooky? does it sound like a fairy could be playing this on a pink mushroom? does it make you feel like you’re standing on the battlefield with a sword in your hand? how does it make you feel?
where to find songs?
now you may be wondering, where on earth do i find songs that fit my wip ?? fear not, i’ve got you covered. i recommend using spotify because it gives you song suggestions to add to your playlist based on the songs you’ve already added to it! i haven’t used any music streaming app besides spotify so maybe there’s others that do this as well but yeah. you can also find playlists that other people have already made and choose songs from there! for example if you have a scene in which a character is running from the cops, you could search “running from cops” and a bunch of playlists with that title will come up, and you can listen to those and choose songs you think fit.
songs starter pack
and because i’m just that helpful, here are some artists whose songs might fit your wip based on its genre / vibes. and you simultaneously get to experience some of my superior music taste. you’re welcome <3
fantasy: ruelle, valerie broussard, halsey, fleurie, tommee profitt, beth crowley, SVRCINA, ramin djawadi
romance: taylor swift, ed sheeran, olivia rodrigo, lana del rey, bruno mars, harry styles
mystery / thriller: billie eilish, lana del rey, ruelle, lorde
scifi: michael giacchino, hans zimmer, alan silvestri
dystopian: imagine dragons, lorde, billie eilish, 2WEI, arctic monkeys, J2, hidden citizens
contemporary: taylor swift, olivia rodrigo, conan gray, girl in red, clairo, dodie

For the ask thing, 🦋🦕?
Thank you so much for the ask!!! 🫶🫶
🦋- I don’t really have a guilty pleasure song or artist, but more so a genre as a whole. I love listening to movie/show OSTS as much as I do lyrical music (sometimes even more)! Joe Hisaishi (who orchestrates most of the Studio Ghibli movies), Alan Silvestri (his Marvel works in particular), the LOTR/Hobbit soundtracks, and the Violet Evergarden soundtrack are some of my all time favs!!
🦕- My biggest pet peeve would 100% be bullying — plain and simple. A large reason to this is due to some shitty personal experience, but anyone who puts others down for no reason in particular just irks me and infuriates me to no belief >:( Just be nice and don’t be an asshole — it’s not that hard

Are there any artists that you you think would be great on a Spider-Man book? I really think Chris Samnee would do amazing given his work on daredevil. Shame he only got to draw superior Spider-Man and like two issues of ultimate Spider-Man.

I finally watched The Croods 2! Yes I paid $20 to watch it legally online, no I did not risk COVID-19 by going to a movie theater.
Pros:
Love triangle plot successfully avoided! Eep and Dawn spend more time together onscreen as friends than Guy and Dawn who never express romantic interest in each other.
I really liked the character design of the Bettermans and the creativity put into designing their home. You can tell that the artists had a lot of fun coming up with ideas.
Sequel did a good job juggling all the characters. 10 characters is a lot! Everyone had something to do (except for Sandy but she can’t even talk so she doesn’t count).
Hot Pink Girl Sloth TM was thankfully barely utilized. I wish they had gone for a pale red or any other somewhat natural color instead of hot pink.
I thought it was quite funny. The jokes were a bit non-stop, so your mileage may vary, but I was entertained. Standard family movie humor.
Voice actors were all great!
Cons:
Alan Silvestri did not return to score the sequel, and the soundtrack is not as good as the original. However, the Jack Black songs that play during the credits DO go off!
Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco did not return to direct the sequel, and I felt like we were missing the low angle shots and stuff that helped make the first movie feel realistic.
Partial thematic retread of the first movie, yet does not reach the same emotional intensity as the third act of the original.
There were minor continuity errors between the two movies. I think the creators just didn’t really care, and the errors are minor, but they do bother me a bit. For example, Grug says he’s only eaten a banana once a long time ago, but Guy handed him a banana halfway through the first movie.
Surfacing/textures weren’t as good as the original, and it is most noticeable in the one (1) flashback scene to the first movie. Dreamworks in general has smoother characters in recent years, but holy shit the $65M budget probably also contributed to it. The Croods (2013) had a budget of $135M. I have no idea how Dreamworks cut production costs in half???
