#inktober #inktober2019 Night 5. Silky Doll / Mad Machine / Femme Fatale #BubblegumCrisis 2032 has been such a huge influence on my aesthetic. The suits in 2040 are curvier, but just dont capture the same vibe. Also, the 80s Japanese CityPop and J-Rock soundtrack, it is one of my favorite versions of a cyberpunk setting. I specifically wrote down that I would draw either #SyliaStingray or Lina, since it feels like I've drawn Priss so many times in the past. I tried to be less loose with the brushpen except in some areas where I knew i could get a cool shape for a crest shadow against the chrome armor. If this were previoud years, ballpoint would have yielded great results too. Preproduction on this took long (I fell asleep on the studio floor at one point), and I had to adjust my theme a little. Originally was aiming to do a transforming mech but that takes longer to design. Execution challenges on this including deciding when to go for tight lines and when to let the brush loose for sweet effects. I scrapped my original concept prompt because it was boring and then I remembered seeing a Twitter interaction where @kekai_kotaki was giving @andrewkmar a hard time for not drawing a centaur for inktober (which he then drew) and then I knew what I had to do. #inktober #inktober2019 Heavy metal nights! I definitely overworked the final on this. Spent most of the day ideating but once I hit the stride, I should have kept the ink choice limited to ballpoint pen. There's a certain quality to fine ballpoint lines that not even pigment ink liners can replicate. Those that saw the linework in the IG story know what I'm talking about. I think for tomorrow's I will stick to one or the other. Conceptually, it's a visual kitbash of some of my favorite mecha/armor influences, including Gundam, BGC, DarliFra, and shoulder designs from Halo and Destiny. Anyways, same tools as yesterday, addition of Pentel RSVP fine for mechanical lines (hardly visible at this point which is unfortunate), and copic R27 and R59 for the reds.
