Bit of an update! I'm starting to post fics now! A few have been bopping about my brain and I want to start writing them. Bare with me they are not prefect, but they make me smile! A large majority of them will be bg3 based and pretty tame (I can't write romance well, but I'm trying my best).
Also in the future I will be posting favorite scenes or some character stuff about my current work in progress. For those interested it's an Arthurian Legend base YA book, that focuses on Arthur becoming king from a political pov rather than wars. Also I made like half the Round Table knights gay and regret nothing!
Still posting memes, fandom content, and other weird stuff, but also this now too!

9. IF THEY WERE A SONG BY YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST, WHICH WOULD THEY BE? : i got this twice but i have so many favorite artists so ! for this one ! i am loving florence + the machine right now, and my current ginny bop there is girls against god : but by god you're gonna get it, you'll be sorry that you messed with me. and i know i may not look like much, just another screaming speck of dust, but by god you're gonna get it.
30. WHAT'S THE HIGHEST COMPLIMENT THEY COULD RECEIVE? : truly, anything related to her being powerful / capable ( which are both things that she knows she is, but often feels that she has to prove to other people ) or anything related to her being absolutely terrifying. ginny doesn't want to be recognised for her looks, for the most part. she wants people to see her as a formidable threat, because she is one, and that's one of those early draco / gin thoughts ( and actually while i think about it, the crux of one of my favorite ever lines mozzie wrote for a blaise / ginny thread ) that actually sucked us in, because from the dawn of nox he was always super aware of her strength and rightfully wary of her, because he knew she was a dangerous thing.
57. IF THEY COULD GO BACK AND SLEEP WITH / HANG OUT WITH A HISTORICAL FIGURE, WHO WOULD IT BE? : i'm going to be soooo honest with you. i just do not know LMAO. i have been racking my brains, and for ginny it's probably like ... arthurian myth morgana, because she legitimately existed in the wixen world and i think she'd be absolutely enamored by everything she had going on, but. i can't think of a single real world example.

"Hm, it sounds fun! I bet you need to be really creative to make up stories in that wheelhouse, about dragons and monsters and creatures and all that sort of stuff." There were knights in fantasy stories, right? Or was that purely part of Arthurian myths? "Do you plan them in advance, or is it a thing of, uh, thinking them up on the spot?" Both were, to Olivia, equally impressive.
"All the Small Things," she repeated under her breath. She hadn't heard of that band before, though then again, she hadn't heard of many bands at all. "I like it. It's different from what I usually listen to, but it's fun. Fast paced," she smiled and bopped her head slightly.
"Yeah, it's a bit intense sometimes... And it can get exhausting, hearing and reading about so many difficult, stressful and serious cases. But I can take it," she chuckled. She was used to it by now. And she believed fully in the importance of her work, so that was a really good incentive to keep moving forward even when researching the darkest cases.
At his next comment, Olivia opened her eyes wide. "Yes, please do!" she replied to his offer. And then she realized that might not have been the correct answer. "I mean, I'd... I'd love to know if you see anything suspicious, but I think it might be better to formally report it to the RHPD... I mean, I think so. That's their job." And, someday, it would be her job, too.
"Oh... Well, my mom disappeared when I was three," Olivia answered. "So... Well, you know." It wasn't necessarily that Olivia had a specific problem talking about the subject of her mother. It was more that she rarely knew what to say. With so much uncertainty, what could she even say? That she missed her? Of course. She missed what little she could remember of her, anyways. Did she want her back, to show up safe and sound? Certainly. Was there a part of her that grew to suspect the same thing that her father did, which he never mentioned out loud but was a tacit suspicion? That she had, truly, walked out on them? Yes. No doubt about it. But how can you properly communicate that? Olivia couldn't, no matter how much of a chatterbox she could be sometimes.
"Well, I mean it's sort of all in that genre, yeah," he nodded. He didn't want to nerd out completely in front of this girl and freak her out, but then again, maybe it would make her a little more comfortable to know more about him. She seemed nice enough and not like the judgey type. "No, uh," he laughed, shaking his head. "DM as in Dungeon Master. I'm the one telling the story, and the players react to what I tell them is happening.
"This one is called All the Small Things, by blink-182." He figured that one was a safe bet since it's pop punk but also upbeat and not sad. When she explained that she was studying Criminology, Bailey became a bit more intrigued. "Wow. That seems pretty intense," he chuckled. "I wouldn't have guessed that. So if I ever see anything suspicious, can I turn to you?" he asked, looking at her briefly. It was meant to be a playful joke, but there was some truth and genuine meaning behind it.
For a moment, when she mentioned not wanting to leave her dad alone, Bailey got quiet. He knew on some level that she might not want to talk about her mother, if she was even in the picture, but as a child who grew up with a single parent after the death of the other, he felt some weird compulsion to ask. "What about your mom?"

Choices Insiders October 2022
Sorry for being a bit later this month. Happy Spooktober everyone! 🎃👻
Here we are once more with the latest Insiders email.
Ramble Alert!!
The sequel to our infamous legal mystery book has arrived! Players all over the world became lawyers once again, and dug into the chills and thrills of Laws of Attraction 2. Make sure to check out new chapters every Friday.
So I must admit, I haven't actually got to this yet. But I am intrigued as to what the main mystery will be.
Top 40 here we come! The official Murder at Homecoming soundtrack was published on our YouTube page last month. From spooky sounds to adrenaline-inducing bops, the Murder at Homecoming playlist has it all.
Also, players put their detective hats on in the Wide Release of Murder at Homecoming. New chapters are released for all every Wednesday!
Murder at Homecoming has me intrigued with its mystery, I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
Wide Release players experienced the dramatic finale of The Cursed Heart. But fret not adventurer, the story continues in The Cursed Heart 2, currently in production.
I ended up enjoying The Cursed Heart, I love fantasy, it's one of my favourite genres. Looking forward to BK2.
Sound the trumpets! The debut of Guinevere is near. (A rhyme!) Our writers have sent the following BTS sneak peeks by royal pigeon.
First, some advice for our noble players: The story of Camelot has been told many times, and like some of our readers, the heroine of this particular story knows a little about what's coming... Paying attention to the past and future of Camelot just might help you save its present!
This makes me think that the planned villain will be someone who had something to do with Camelot's past and is back, maybe someone like Mordred. I'll talk more about this in a sec after the image
Next, check out these WIP art sneak peeks:
I think that the whole thing about paying attention to the past may be done by collecting tapestries or something like that.
This looks like it's meant to be a library or something like that. Not 100% sure on that. I am intrigued as to how Guinevere will interpret Arthurian legend and how everything will play out.
Supernatural?? Mystery?? Fantasy?? My favourite genres!!! Looking forward to seeing what they'll be. Curious as to what point in time the period piece will be set. Only one way to find out!
We know that Kiss of Death will be a crime book, so it is one I'm looking forward to, given everything we know about it so far, I think it will be a single Love Interest book.
Getaway Girls is one I'm interested to see, sounds like it will be a holiday book, but as we don't have much info on it other than it is the much awaited black-led book, I don't know what else to say about it.
Roommates with Benefits sounds like it will be a more mature book, given that this is the first we have heard of it, I can't say much else. However the font used does look similar to the Nanny Affair font.
It's the same case for First Comes Love as this is the first we have heard of it, I can't really say anything on it.
Immortal Desires is definitely my top book of all the ones releasing at the moment, I can't believe the finale is next week! Cas and Gabe are amazing Love Interests and it is a shame that it won't be getting a follow-up. The world building and lore has given an interesting world that I would like to have seen more of.
I've fallen behind on the Nanny Affair 3 and Slow Burn, so I can't say much.
I must admit, when I saw the ghost asset for Gabbie, I did wonder if Murder at Homecoming was going to have a supernatural element to it, but instead it is a grounded crime mystery that I am enjoying.
The Phantom Agent is this month's public book, I imagine it may start either next Wednesday when Immortal Desires finishes or the following Wednesday. Unfortunately no book for non-VIP in November and Surrender will see us out of 2022 as the final book of the year.
We are currently hosting our annual pbpARTy! If you haven’t yet, check out our list of art prompts for each day of October: pbpARTY Prompts. Make sure to include the hashtags #pbparty2022 and #playchoices! We always love seeing fan art, and can’t wait to see what you come up with for our spooky Choices-themed categories. And lastly, before we say goodbye, we want to know: Which upcoming book are you most excited for?
Looking forward to seeing what amazing art pieces come up this month from these!
So that's it for this month. Looking forward to the upcoming books and what else will be announced.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Keep safe!

hey so this is really weird but this is the first time ive come across a blog and literally Not Known What It's For please explain also brian seems very funky whatever this is seems rad
Alright! Im going to give the just but also link two other posts because if you want to get into the mechanisms they have resources
Here is a very good post compiling many things that I havnt read but it's by @lucky-sevens so i trust it's great
The one I have sent to other people inquiring how to get into the mechs
So. The Mechanisms. Its very understanding how you have no idea what they are because they're. Very obscure amd only just getting traction after the band died. But somehow we did get number 9 on Tumblr musical groups. We beat fall out boy. (This is because we have Lore and Characters and Are Basically Musicals)
To get started, the mechanisms are essentially a band who tells queer tragedies baced off things like grimm' s fairy tales, Greek Mythology, Arthurian legend, norse mythology and other things.
Like say, in their album High Noon Over Camelot, the story takes place in a long abandoned space station. It's a western and it's King Arther and the round table. The album's are very cool but do all end in tragedies so be warned
Regardless of the album's, there are also The Crew, or the people who sing the songs.
The band members have in universe personas/characters they play. These are The Mechanisms.
The Mechansisms are immortal queer cyborg time-traveling dimension-hopping space pirates who collect stories and tell them to the stars. You just happen to be listening to a few they decides to share with your time and place.
They're also horrible morally irredeemable people and i love them.
The Mechanisms do violence for fun, murder for laughs, and destroy planets for sport. They are. Bad people.
But it's also found family in space and "we're all evil together so why do mortals matter"
The Mechanisms were made by Dr. Carmilla who is a different artist but used to be part of the band in 2011 I think. She still makes music that is in universe and bops
They all have a mechanical body piece that gave them immortality. Jonny has his heart, Ashes has their lungs, Tim has his eyes, Brian has everything but his heart, etc.
They live on Aurora, who happens to be a flesh moon who was turned into a starship by an empire. It's quite sad.
Continuing. The band died in the beginning of the year. The mechanisms met their final deaths and died. It's sad. This does not mean no more content (given that there is a Dr. Carmilla trilogy of albums coming out soon and a Brian Album eventully and a Marius Album coming out at some point 2021)
But also the fact this fandom is built of archeologists and we keep discovering more lore in the most random pages. Like the edit log of a wiki page from years ago random.
Tldr:
The Mechansisms are an irl band with alot of lore and a bunch of characters. The band members play characters that are immortal space pirates who just so happened to show up at the right point in our timeline to sing us songs.

36. Have you ever met someone who had a very similar personality to your own? Did you get along?

100.What belief do you have that isn’t logically grounded, but you still firmly believe in?
36. Have you ever met someone who had a very similar personality to your own? Did you get along?
I once had a friend who was basically an extension of myself. We loved all of the same things, did the same things, and our mutual friends would be shocked if we showed up somewhere without each other.
We shared a room, we shared clothes, and books, and movies. So yeah, we got along really well lol
Unfortunately choices were made and the friendship ended rather badly. We both got hurt, but it is what it is.
49. Do you hold yourself to higher standards than you hold others?
Yes, I do.
I hold people to pretty high standards, especially my friends - whether they realize it or not - but I am incredibly hard on myself. It's one of my biggest flaws honestly :/
80. Is your music organised by mood or sensation or do you just listen to everything at any time?
Everything at once.
One song will be a jam, then a sad one, then back to a bop lol
51. What question could you ask to find out the most about a person?
"What are you like when you're angry?"
93. Do you draw meaning from your dreams, or do you disregard them?
I used to be into the whole 'interpret your dreams to figure out your subconcious' thing. So sometimes I wonder what my dreams could mean, but then I just feel like it's too much work and just let dreams be dreams.
100. What belief do you have that isn't logically grounded, but you still firmly believe in?
The Arthurian Legends
Fairies
Robin Hood
Basically the legends and fairy tales lol

Wizard theories
I’ve bopped in and out of the fandom for the past year so I don’t know how much of this has been discussed, but whatever.
So the main plot of Wizards will be Douxie and crew bringing an end to the “real” war for the surface. They will do this with Seklos’ core, or whatever it is that made Gaylen’s core, which is also the source of at least some magic users powers.
The real war being whatever Morgana’s true goals are, whatever caused Merlin to call their fight at Killahead the real battle. Gunmar was looking for something during that fight, you can hear him shouting “Where is it” while he is posed on top of the bridge facing off with Deya. I’m assuming what he’s talking about is the mysterious power source. Gaylen’s core came from Earth. Aaron Waltke recently said that Morgan’s power is older than she is, and her hand is at least part of the amulets power source. Aja and Krel speculated that the amulets power source was not Earthly or from Akiridion. The amulet’s glow pulsed and a heartbeat is heard as Jim wakes Merlin. Merlin is in a magical stasis recovering after depleting his powers. Fialkov and Coranda showed that Akiridion (royal) cores could be recovered in stasis and are powerful enough to power weapons capable of felling a god. Seklos had the four arms of a royal.
I’m assuming from the leaked poster that parts of the series will take place in flashbacks of Douxie during his apprentice days and during the height of the war for the surface. It seems like the most organic way to have massive lore drops and drive home any of the parallels the show wants to draw between the modern day characters and figures in Arthurian legend.
(side note: Arthurian legend is fanfiction written about fanfiction with dozens of interpretations to pick and choose from. The only parallels I have any confidence in is Jim paralleling Galahad, Zoe being Nimue, and Angor might have been Accolon.)
I’m not sure what side Douxie falls on the Merlin vs Morgana war. He apprenticed for Merlin so he might be on his side, but Merlin has a history of turning his apprentices against him. Classically both Nimue and Morgana were trained by Merlin and turned against him, so there might be camaraderie there. Or he might not like either of them. He works in GDT Arcane Books next to Nimue’s records but he hasn’t been shown interacting with Zoe so it’s hard to judge their relationship, more on that later. Whatever side he’s on in this fight he knew it was happening in Arcadia and he came to take part, but he didn’t know enough about the new players to get involved safely. Then the Eternal Night happened and everyone but Toby, Aaarrrgghh and two changelings skipped town. But Douxie stuck around town because “the real battle” isn’t over yet, Morgana is only trapped in the shadow realm and will break out eventually. Douxie has been overtaxing his powers trying to keep everything under control until he can find a solution, that’s why a corruption mark is forming on his left hand.
I think the only reason he reached out with Archie, or Archie reached out by himself, at the end of 3Below is that Douxie is burning the candle at both ends and is running out of options.
That’s the end of the solid speculation, the rest is more iffy and less organized.
Three thoughts about why Douxie showed up in Arcadia: 1. He can sense magic and Claire’s ultimate portal forged a connection between her and Morgana allowing Morgana to start taking a foothold in the real world. Either of these events could have set off magic alarm bells. 2. He has some future site and Arcadia has had multiple events worthy of a premonition. Merlin’s future site is an inherited trait from his demonic father that cannot be taught. If Douxie had a demonic bloodline it would be three for three on at least partially inhuman heroes. 3. Someone just told him to come to Arcadia or he’s been there for a while, Ash Dispersal Pattern did open for Papa Skull.
This is more farfetched than the rest. But I think Zoe is Nimue is Seklos, and someone came after her to steal her power like Merlin taking Morgana’s hand. Douxie found out what was happening and either warned her and they both ran, or he managed to recover her core and run with that. They were hunted by either Bular or a Trollhunter. Seklos depleted all of the power in her core stopping Gaylen and might have only started to recover when she was attacked. Basically the Lady of the Lake is too powerful a character to be at full power at the start of the show, if her core is damaged and causing power loss or memory loss she would be nerfed until a solution could be found. Not sure how close Douxie and Zoe are but I think they’ve been sticking together to stay safe. He’s using his magic to keep them hidden and maybe sustain her core if they don’t have the proper equipment.

I just saw Aquaman!
And! I! Loved! It!
I think it was the aquarium bit right at the beginning where I just stopped and went, “oh fuck, I’m afraid of fish.” I had kind of… forgotten? that I have an irrational fear of fish? There weren’t many scenes where just little fish were going around so it was mostly fine. And despite this fact, I still very much loved the movie. It was amazing. So here’s some things I loved.
(long post full of spoilers under the cut)
The absence of death for the drama: Firstly, let me just say how happy I am that they didn’t go the cheap route of killing off characters for drama. Like it would have been so easy for them to kill his dad. So easy. And through that scene (which was gorgeous btw, both the sound design and the cinematography) I was so scared that they would, but like… kind of resigned to the fact. And then they didn’t. And Vulko too! I thought he was gonna for sure get killed for motivation. First during the Ring of Fire (btw, the Johnny Cash song of the same name played in my head every time someone said it) I thought he was gonna jump in the way to prevent Arthur losing and die. Then during the rest of the film there were so many opportunities for him to get killed and he did not! It would have been so easy to kill his dad or his father figure but they didn’t, and you know why? Because then it wouldn’t have been about Arthur regaining his birthright and learning to accept both sides of himself, it would have been a plain and simple revenge story. Like so many other movies we’ve seen before. Good on them for avoiding the cliché that this has to happen for a hero’s journey.
Atlanna: While we’re at it, let’s talk about Queen Atlanna. Because I don’t think most people, who have seen movies like this before, really believed that she was dead. When there’s no hard evidence, you gotta assume they’re fine. And I love that, when characters are so pleasantly shocked and surprised to see their loved one alive. I live for that. And this film did not disappoint. Their reunion was beautiful and touching. And I definitely teared up when she asked about Arthur’s dad. And the person sitting in front of me was just absolutely sobbing. Either that or choking on their popcorn. I couldn’t tell.
Diversity: How about that love story between his parents eh! That was heartbreaking and beautiful. And it was just so, so refreshing to see non-white characters let me just say. Like Arthur’s dad is a gorgeous man and it hurts that we haven’t seen stuff like this before. It was just perfect. And I loved how Arthur was also still very much connected to the culture of his father and his family. That’s an extra layer of depth that you can’t get as easily when everyone is white.
Comedy: So this movie was hilarious. It was so, so funny. Like… the octopus on the drums? During the Ring of Fire scene? I laughed so hard and so long that I set off the person sitting next to me who also started laughing. My god, I just couldn’t help it. It made me think of The Little Mermaid. But also like, the “bogeys on our six” “what does that mean???” “Bad guys behind us!” “Just say that then!” “Bad guys behind us! Bad guys behind us!” Just getting increasingly higher and higher pitched. Like that was priceless. Also side note, we talk a lot about female characters being allowed to make “unsexy” noises when fighting, but like there are also multiple points in this film where Jason Momoa isn’t just being all gruff grunts in fights either, like he gets thrown off a roof in Italy and his yell turns into a high pitched scream at one point like yes!
Mera: Also Princess Mera! Like damn! It is very clear she is very much an equal, and never lesser than the male lead. She’s the one who knows what she’s doing. And like the thing with controlling water? That’s something that’s uniquely her. It’s not something that she has to teach to Arthur. That’s her own insanely powerful thing and Arthur and everyone else can’t help but respect her and just be in awe. Also, trying to do things from the background to keep the leverage she has in her position, but not hesitating to just go for it either. When she sees no other choice she jumps feet first into her new role as a traitor because she wants to see her nation under better rule.
Arthur: As a character, I loved that he wasn’t like, the smartest guy, but he could still use his head and think through things. He’s not an idiot. He has knowledge about certain things like history. I loved that he was named after Arthurian legend and they kept with that, that his dad is a history lover and taught him stuff. He differs to Mera, acknowledging that she’s brilliant. And he wins his battles not by brute strength (except for the first one which set up perfectly what he could do) or by outsmarting the other guy, but often by just stopping to talk (that monster that was guarding) or by getting help (the huge battle at the end with the sea creatures). An argument can even be made for it not being sheer strength that wins the final duel, but skill. He even acknowledges this by saying that he’s a blunt weapon and good at it. All he wants to do is help and protect people which we see plainly on both the sub and in Italy. Arthur is a great, well fleshed-out character that felt completely real.
Atlantis’ walls: Ok, the bit where they’re entering the city and Arthur says, “why don’t people just go over the walls?” and Mera says that it’s impossible and there’s hydra canons and whatnot, I just started chanting in my head Chekhov’s gun Chekhov’s gun Chekhov’s gun! (For those that don’t know, it’s a literary device that states “If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired”. Meaning, if you gonna mention something like that, do something with it). And by golly did they! I was assuming they were gonna have to break in at some later point, I didn’t think they’d be breaking out! That was great!
The ending: It was absolutely perfect. How everyone stands witness to the battle and their battle itself, including all of the talking they did in it. I adored the relationship between the two brothers. Like how Arthur said earlier that he had wanted to meet him and get to know him. Then at the end he tells him that they can talk when he’s ready and Orm actually hesitantly gives him a nod. And the fact that he spared him at all. He regrets not showing mercy to Manta’s father, and will not fail to show mercy again here. And how Atlanna shows up and talks to Orm and tells him she loves him and doesn’t blame him, she blames how his father raised him. It took my breath away with how genuinely fulfilling this ending felt.
Couple last points: The soundtrack was an absolute bop my dudes! Like wow! The song choices, the original music, it was all just so, so good and so, so perfect. Also enjoyed how the movie didn’t coddle the viewers. It didn’t explain everything straight up. There’s mentions of Vulko before we know who he is, they don’t tell us right when we met her who Mera is, they showed us through her short conversation with her father. The characters felt real, having conversations about things they knew about and not bothering to tell us until we had wondered how they knew, like how Arthur believed his mother to have been executed. They did show don’t tell extremely well throughout the entirety of the movie.
In conclusion, it was an amazing film with a terrific cast, great acting, brilliant and witty writing, breath taking cinematography, believable characters, and beautiful battles. And I loved every second of it.
What did you love?

Dean spoils her with book of Arthurian legend and fairytales, reads stories at bedtime and edits out the bloody parts. He’s been an evil knight, a fire-breathing dragon, a handmaiden, a court jester, a horse, and the knight in shining armor who rescues the fair damsel from the clutches of the evil Sorcerer Samuel – his identity has never been so confused.
When he takes her to see Charlie, his motives are personal – he needs a hard drive hacked – but he’s completely aware that she’s in the middle of LARP season playing a queen and will be on the premises of her ‘kingdom’. And it’s possibly for the little girl to stay with Cass or Sam, but Dean decided to take her because he wants to spend more time with her. He should admit that he wants her to have a true medieval experience already.
All the four-year-old knows is that Daddy needs to go somewhere for work and asked her to come with him. Without being asked, she donner her princess dress and grabbed her fairy wand (today, apparently, she’s a fairy princess). It takes her a second to realize that everyone at this gathering is wholeheartedly portraying characters from her favorite time period, but once she does she about explodes from fangirl excitement, and her devotion to playing her character is permeated by fits of glee. No one else breaks character, not even the evil witches and man-eating trolls who are bopped by her wand to repel them with magic. She’s most excited, however, when they enter the Queen’s tent.
“Charlie!” she squeals, bouncing on her heels.
Charlie, restraining obvious delight, maintains her royal façade long enough to give and receive a curtsy and then sweeps up the little girl, exclaiming, “C’mere and gimme a hug, Buggaboo!”
“Nice of you to notice me,” Dean comments sarcastically.
“You’re here on business. That’s boring.”
“Yeah, boring,” echoes the toddler.
“And you didn’t dress appropriately.” Charlie sets the little girl down and points at a chest on the other side of the tent. “See that? There’s some costume stuff in there. Go ahead and start putting something together for your dad, okay?”
She requires no prodding. While his daughter is occupied, Dean takes the hard drive out of his pocket. “Belonged to Tucker Orvis, guy who owns all those theaters I mentioned. Sam swiped it, but it’s encrypted past his skill level. Can you crack it?”
“Yes and no.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means I can hack it, but not right now. I have a court meeting in five minutes, and I can’t miss this one because I missed the last two and now there’s talk of diverting the Queen’s power to the advisers so I really have to do my job.”
“Uh huh. Why exactly did you miss the last two?”
“The maid in the next tent is super hot.”
“Ah. You know, people are dying because of what old Tucker’s hiding on this thing, right?”
“I’ve got a plan. Go to the tech tent and look for a dark fairy, LARP name Diaspor Catspring, real name Elena Kabul. She’s real good at this.”
“Is she a hunter?”
“She’s got limited morals, no respect for authority, and a mega crush on yours truly. Just don’t let her actually read what’s on the thing.”
“Got it.” Dean starts for the door.
“Um, costume?” Charlie gestures to the mess of clothes surrounding the chest. Beneath a cape, something squirms. “Also, can I borrow your kid?”
* * * * *
Truly, Dean gets a kick out of LARPing. Though he gripes about the dress, he changes into the outfit chosen for him, papier mâché sword and all, and heads across the site to find the tech tent. Diaspor Catspring is exactly where Charlie said she’d be and as lacking in morals. She’s more than willing to hack the stolen hard drive once Dean promises to put in a good word for her with the Queen, but he sacrifices speed when he turns down the invitation to her tent later. He gets what he wants, and the moment he does he snatches the hard drive away from Diaspor’s curious hands and leaves the tent.
He finds his daughter punishing a troll.
“You have been accused of intent to dethrone the Queen,” a man in wizard guard is saying to the accused being held by two guards. “Such offenses shall not go unpunished.” The wizard turns to face the Queen expectantly.
There’s some whispering from the advisors near the throne. Charlie listens and eyes the troll thoughtfully, but as she opens her mouth, the toddler princess by her side speaks up.
“Off with his head!” she cries, head held high and wand pointed damningly.
Charlie backs her up. “Off with his head!”
Spouting curses, the troll is dragged off to the dungeons. Dean approaches the throne cautiously.
Charlie nods to her advisors. “A moment.” She steps down from her throne and follows him out the back entrance. “Did you get it?”
“Yeah. Oh, and I don’t remember exactly what she told me to say, but I’m supposed to put in a good word with you, so this is me . . . doing that.”
“Daddy, guess what!” The four-year-old vies for her father’s attention. “I put people in stocks and made them get their heads cut off!”
“Don’t forget we knighted somebody, and you turned that one witch into a toad,” Charlie adds.
“Sounds like an interesting day.”
“Hey, Buggaboo, wanna knight your dad?”
“He is one already ‘cause he fights monsters like one,” the toddler explains. “Sometimes Uncle Sammy is a wizard who kidnaps me, and Daddy is a knight who rescues me. Uncle Cass was a dragon one time.”
“Almost burned down the motel because he was trying to be “authentic”.”
“I made a dragon mask with a paper bag so he can wear it.”
Charlie laughs. “That sounds very cool.”
“We have our fun.” Dean ruffles the toddler’s hair. “We gotta get going, baby girl.”
“Noooo, Daddy!”
“Your uncle’s been alone all day, and I’ve got work I gotta do.”
“But there’s a battle and Charlie said I can watch it with her!”
Sighing, Dean crouches in front of the little girl. “How about this: after I finish working, I will call Charlie, ask her when the next battle is, and we can come back for that one. Sound good?”
Consoled but still deflated, the four-year-old mutters, “Yeah.”
“Good girl. Now, Princess, would you escort me back to the changing rooms so I might don my peasant’s garb?”
“I’m not a princess,” she argues, brightening, “I’m a queen!”

http://roman-britain.co.uk/places/verteris.htm Fascinating, and unfortunate, that the ancient symbol at the top of this page, found on some ornamental "doo-bop" in a Roman-British fort happened to be coopted by a freak-group of WhiteAryan Sh$&heads in the 30s... More fascinating how Brigid's Cross resembles the said symbol from Verteris...Before Aryan Nationalists and Nazis demonstrated their poor understanding of such symbols by associating them with racist and supremacist leanings, the swastika actually had quite a sacred, and positive connotation for the previous 3000 years it appears from Southeast Asia, India, the lands ruled by Greece and Rome, and even Ireland. I don't believe its symbolism has definitely been explained with any solid evidence, but there are suggestions it actually possessed some association with rebirth/rejuvenation/and the sun... With that in mind, I actually think it would herald a far more positive, and historically more sound message, to reclaim this symbol of rebirth for ALL people, the world over... Anyway, I don't care about modern warpings of the swastika. Here, at Verteris, the four arms, which, if you look at the resemblance to Brigid's Cross, form an eternal, spiraling rotation, much like the related, triune triskele of Mann...similar to those spinny things that are such a trend right now. In 2nd Century Artorius Speak, the four arms are tied, in my brain to the "Grail Procession" of Peredeur ap Ebrauc/and Chretien's French/Breton derivation. The procession, as clueless Perdeur sits to dinner with the FisherKing, includes some series of a patera/serving dish, usually of precious metal, like silver for the moon, with a wafer/or a head, symbolic of the Host/Communion/eating bodies/or the sun/seat of knowledge/intuition, and a lance dripping blood/which can vary as a sword/or spear, and a separate cauldron/"gradale"--Grail--in this case, a carving dish, and maybe a candelabra of precious metal. These objects, and the procession itself, become increasingly complex, and full of all sorts of High Medieval Religious motifs as the Continental Arthurian Romances spun their own threads through the 12/13/14 centuries. Taking it back to 2nd century speak, my "lance" is the silver Dragon Standard of the Sarmatians; the dripping, bloody sword is my version of the sword of Ares--aka, Excalibur (but not Excalibur), brought in a crate of petrified earth, by the Iazyges exiled to Britannia; the Cauldron comes from an actual 'cauldron' (a beautiful thing, not as elaborate as the Gundostrap one, but still lovely), dating from the 1st c. BC, found buried in the peat-bogs around Bewcastle Fort (Fanum Cocidi--The Shrine of Cocidius) in Cumbria, and is my take on the whole Spoils of Annwfyn, and the Cauldron of Dagda stolen by Diwrnach, and then stolen back by Arthur's band of renegade warriors from 'Caer Sidi', where it's awakened by the 'breath of 9 Maidens', guarded in 'a spinning fortress'; the candelabra, or another take on the dripping spear, a symbol of lightening, is the staff of the caduceus--the sovereign symbol of Brigantia (she was the goddess of healing/poetry/and science-metalcraft after all, a cognate of Minerva, and the prototype of later Brigid/St Brigid). And, the caduceus is the symbol on the (quarter)staff born by my proganist--a daughter of Romano-Briganti nobility...and a physician (of course). After she returns from her 'hostage' time under Commodus, to take back her lands from Pict/Caledonian invasion, the caduceus is the symbol she invokes as her own standard, and completes arm 4, on the Cross of Verteris. The cross itself belies the Genius/sovereign Spirit of Britannia--the Briganti of the North under a queen, the Romans of the VI ValeriaVictrix of York under the queen's brother, the Sarmatians under their Prince (based on Bedwyr), and the Hibernians/Ulstermen under Artorius, who serve as predecessors to the later Scotti/DalRiada settling into Bute/Argyle...where Artorius, something of a rebel from Rome, claims a kingdom at the fringe of Roman-held lands, from the Isle of Mann, Northern Cumbria/Galloway to Strathclyde, and the Inner Hebrides... I have no idea how to craft this story, but somehow I have a notebook full of scribblings on this shitoofy...
