A SERVANT'S FRIENDSHIP ━ arthur pendragon ♔

Chapter Fourteen - He's Just A Boy “Arthur... swa…” Merlin croaked out. Gaius held his hand, encouraging his nephew, “Merlin, you must fight it.” The boy seemed to flinch at being near someone so sickly and quickly handed the letter to Lynette before departing. The girl watched him go with a peculiar gaze, but her mind didn’t rest on the messenger long. Merlin didn’t have that kind of time. She read the letter and was surprised to find its sender to be the King of Camelot. While she knew he would eventually discover Arthur’s escape from the castle, she had hoped she would at least have a few more days. Lynette showed the contents of the message to her father, whose only response was to not keep him waiting. The blonde left hurriedly, casting one last glance toward her cousin, who reached a hand out to her as if in search of her. She wanted to return to him, but she knew better. The longer the servant kept Uther waiting, the worse his wrath would be.  She went toward Morgana’s chambers, flinching when she heard his fury echoing through the halls. She knocked on Morgana’s chambers timidly, hearing Morgana’s voice before entering. Uther stood next to one of the windows, his fist tightening as he shook in apparent fury. He was still dressed in his ceremonial cloak from the feast, and his crown, a symbol of power, sat on his head. It had been days since Arthur’s departure from Camelot, and it looked as if the king had neither slept nor eaten. Lynette looked worriedly over at Morgana, who didn’t appear surprised at her guardian’s reaction. She was in one of her night dresses, having changed herself so she wouldn’t bother Gwen or Lynette as they tended to Merlin.  Lynette had to clear her throat to announce her presence, not trusting her voice to be strong as the king rounded on her, “You knew about this, didn't you?”  Lynette stepped back as his eyes landed on her, “My lord?” “Don't lie to me.” Uther spat. “He tells you everything.” “Arthur’s old enough to make decisions for himself.” Morgana intervened, but Uther held up a finger to silence her. “Arthur, indeed, is more than capable of deciding who is worth saving,” Lynette stated. “He's just a boy,” Uther countered, " a boy who still does not know what it takes to be king.” Morgana scoffed, “Have you seen your son recently? You have to let him make his own mind up.” “Even if it means letting him go to his death?” Lynette faltered slightly at Uther’s words. She had been prepared to defend Arthur’s choice, yet the blonde had forgotten who stood before her. Uther may be the King of Camelot, but he was also Arthur’s father. He had every right to worry about his son's safety and the kingdom's future. What caused Lynette to not lose her momentum with Uther was that he had no authority to decide who was worth saving. She wouldn’t let him have the final say over whether Merlin lived or died. Arthur had made his choice. Uther must now make a choice on whether or not to support his son. “Yes,” Lynette answered firmly. Your son chose to put someone else’s needs above his own—a quality that a good king should have. Despite what you may believe, the prince has a mind of his own, and I did nothing to influence his decision to pursue the antidote. If you will excuse me, sire, I must return to my cousin's side.”

Ok but I need a post canon, Arthur returns, slow burn, Merthur, kind of fic where we can acompany our beloved king through the different stages of grief he will go through when Merlin tells him he's been dead for over 1500 years so he lost his kingdom, knights, friends and wife. A fic where we can see Merlin introducing Arthur to the 21st century and its technology that he insists is just magic, Mer-lin, I know it, I'm no fool. I know magic when I see it. A fic where we can see Arthur still struggling to fully trust on Merlin again because yes, he forgave him and he doesn't really care about the magic (except he does because Merlin's eyes look so beautiful when they are gold and where did that come from, Arthur Pendragon? Merlin, beautiful? Ha! The clotpole must've been right when he told you you shouldn't drink a third cup of that dark, strong, addictive beverage) but he still can't get over all the years of constant lies and deceiving, and Merlin feels guilty af so he tries to win his trust once again day by day and keep the promise he made to himself that day he finally confessed his magic to Arthur to not lie to him ever again. A fic full of fluffy moments between merthur where we can see them fall for each other harder slowly but surely until one day, after 3 or 4 months since Arthur came back, he finally kisses Merlin. And then they kiss some more. And more. And they are so happy grinning like idiots between kisses because finally they are on the same page. And everything is perfect. And Arthur suddenly loses his shirt somehow and things are getting heated although everything is still so soft and sweet and tentative. And then the doorbell rings. They ignore it at first, Arthur's orders, but the person behind the door is insistent so they have to stop so Merlin can go and see who it is. And when he finally opens the door, his jaw almost hit the floor because the person in front of him is no other than the fucking Queen of Camelot, his first and beloved friend, Guinevere Pendragon, the long ago dead widow of Arthur Pendragon, king of Camelot, whom he's been making out with seconds ago. And then everything goes downhill coz Gwen sees her husband and Arthur is so shocked to see her again and then they are hugging and smiling and kissing and glowing with happiness and then there's Merlin, with tears in his eyes as he sees them reunite again. As he sees Arthur reunited with his true love. And when the king finally takes a moment to process everything that is happening while having Guinevere laughing crying in his arms, his eyes find Merlin, his Merlin, the one he had in his arms minutes ago and everything comes crashing. Reality hits him so hard he can't even breathe for a second. Because he was happy with Merlin and even though he hadn't yet admitted it out loud, he knew, deep in his soul, that he was in love with him, but then Guinevere is back! His beautiful, amazing, sweet and wonderful queen who he loves with all his heart is back from the death and how is that even possible???

Homura: Stop, Daniel!! I already lost Madoka......I can't lose you! I made a promise to Sam that I will protect you! Please, don't sacrifice yourself for me!! Listen.......Daniel.......let's just run away........there's nothing we can do, so........no one will blame you...

Danny: Homura...I am no longer to be called alive anymore....L was a being so powerful that I had to be erased from the timeline entirely. Even that "meddling" agrees with that.

Homura: But you had us! Arthur, Punch, Tsubasa and me! We're your friends! Very preciously!

Danny: That's why......I won't to do something pointless for this world again......Homura....I'm really glad I became friends with you. Even now, the fact that we were in time to save you from that monster. It's one of my proudest accomplishments. You three accept me for who I am.....I don't have any grief or sadness to be vanish to this world once again.....

Danny: Aren't you not going to be afraid of that witch?

Peter: You mean Morgana?

Danny: Even she's changed to become Punch allies but don't forget She is the darkness to your light, the hatred to your love. Someone a kind-hearted individual, Morgana changed entirely, becoming evil after being corrupted by Morgause and being betrayed by her former friend, Merlin. She subsequently turned against her family and friends, even helping to cause the death of her own father; she was ruthlessly determined to take over Camelot and allowed nothing to stand in her way. Aren't you thought she might chop your head off again, right? She betrayed both Syaoran and Sakura's trust when they were King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.

Peter: That's fine.

Danny: What?

Peter: I think if we don't give her a second chance, it will be more painful not being able to believe than to worry about betrayal.

Peter: "Don't disappoint me! Just keep believing in what you believe! Like you keep believing in Punch! What about your vow to protect Punch and your people!?" It was you who told me that. Because of that...I saved both Pit and Morgana thanks to you.

Danny: Peter......then I ask.....when you found out about Morgana behind all of this, the destruction of Camelot....what did you think?

Peter: Huh?

Danny: She never mentioned it once and left King Arthur alone. Doesn't that bother you?

Peter: Talking about out of the blue, Danny.

Danny: Answer me......you as the first King Arthur. She pointed a sword at you once........

Peter: If I am Syaoran...well....that did make me both angry and sad a lot, but I think Morgana had her own reasons for doing that even turning on the Pendragon family. What King Uther did in the past is wrong that's why it is right for her to be judged like that one wants to become evil if not to protect someone you dearest the most.

Danny: "Become evil if not to protect someone you dearest the most." huh.......

Peter: I've also come this far with my own reasons too. So for now I'll just do what I can do as best as I can!

Danny: Do your best......huh.....that phrase never suited to me at all. So Peter chose the same path as I do.....After all, it's natural to protect the ones you love, isn't that right, Syaoran.

Source Character:

Daniel or "Danny" Fenton, also known by his superhero codename Danny Phantom, is the titular protagonist of the television series Danny Phantom. Originally an unpopular high school student facing ordinary teenage problems, Danny becomes a half-human/half-ghost hybrid during a lab accident via stepping into and activating his parents' Ghost Portal. Since then, Danny has taken on the role of a ghostly superhero to protect Amity Park and the world from the dangerous ghosts that escape the Ghost Zone while ensuring his alter ego "Danny Phantom" remains secret from all save his best friends, Tucker and Samantha, and his older sister Jazz.

Samantha "Sam" Manson is Danny Fenton's closest and best friend and eventual girlfriend in the series finale. Responsible for the accident in which Danny gains his powers, she is also one of the first few people to know about Danny's ghost identity. She’s a self-proclaimed goth who’s fascinated with the subliminal and nether worldly and is a very outspoken ultra-recyclo-vegetarian.

Explanation 17(Analysis)

Danny’s been shot at by his own parents, hunted, tortured, brainwashed, threatened with experiments and even actually been experimented on (counting the cloning experiments), almost died several times, listened to his parents talk about wanting to dissect him, watched loved ones die (even if they ended up being alright), and that’s not even mentioning some of the other stuff Vlad puts him through or the fact that he was ruthlessly bullied long before any of this happened. As Homura, she will protect Madoka at any cost. This means Homura tunnel-visions on Madoka and regards everyone else as a nuisance, having no qualms with them dying so long as Madoka survives. This naturally conflicts with Madoka herself trying to save everyone she can.

Imagine being in middle school and your crush dies and you’re so upset that you kickstart a time loop and repeat the same month 100 times over trying to stop her from dying but unwittingly you make her more and more important to the universe’s continuation (because you have effectively created 100 timelines that are dependent only on the survival of your crush) and therefore her death becomes more and more devastating to the world as a whole in every new timeline and finally your crush sacrifices her life willingly to become a god and you’re the only one who remembers her and this depresses you so much that you construct a whole imaginary universe where your crush is alive and you trap yourself and the souls of your friends inside it and then when you realize it’s Not Real.

Anger in particular is often used to mask pain, sadness or other type of feelings. Dan or dark Danny carries that pre-existing sadness. Mix it with Danny's grief and you have a recipe for disaster. It seems the outer emotions consumed him and to fill that void he sought power. Homura is selfish. That is true and undeniable. However, all humans have moments of selfishness, and not all selfishness is inherently bad or wrong, same as not all selflessness is good. A person who puts themself first if they're going through a difficult time may be called selfish, but that does not make their actions bad. On the opposite end, spreading oneself so thin that they cannot care for themself may be called selfless, but that does not make what they are doing good. Both Danny and Homura does remake the world, which could be called selfish. But in doing so, they are selfless. They have the full ability to make the other do whatever they wants, but they did not. Homura erases some memories, yes, but does not exert full control over the others. If Homura wanted, she could use mind control to make them blindly love her. Instead, Homura's "selfish world" involves making Madoka human, something Madoka had previously asked for and something Homura believes she wants. As for Dark Danny, for "erases all memories" but he chooses not to control the others like Vlad but the opposite is destroying everything and resetting everything to zero like Homura did. Devil Homura and Dark Danny would have had to have broken themself inside, in order to continue with this self-indulgent new universe they created.  So they constantly wears this expression like they are “dead inside”.  Because they has to kill off their true nature in order to continue this uncharacteristic self-indulgence away from continuing to spritiually Fight.  

Danny is part of a traumatized child that saw his own family and friends die, combine this with another ghost of a man who suffers from extreme loneliness and barely cares about others. Homura saw her friends die many times, suffers from extreme loneliness and barely cares about others as well. What you get is a very aggressive ghost who finds joy in hurting innocent and completely lacks empathy. But.. it´s there still one detail, they lack ¨humanity¨: They are not human. Dan mentions this a few times during the episode: about how he left his humanity behind.

In Tsofph Season 11(Chapter1 Secret Truth of the Past(Gilgamesh’s Journal))

Gilgamesh himself causes much suffering by abusing his power as king and tormenting his subjects day and night. Enkidu is created to curb the king's energy and to alleviate the distress of the people. Gilgamesh's greatest joy in finding a true friend also turns into his greatest sorrow when Enkidu becomes ill and dies. Gilgamesh is inconsolable and his suffering drives him away from his palace and his city, in search of life everlasting. When a snake snatches away his last hope of living forever, he realises that life eternal is to be found in life here and now. The despair that Gilgamesh felt was because he saw death as an escape from his duty as the observer of humanity; in order to fulfill his mission completely, he was to observe humanity's path until its eventual end. Falling into depression and with his vigor gone, he sought out the Herb of Immortality, a spirit herb of perpetual youth and eternal life. He later also returned to the deep to retrieve the herb once more simply to complete his collection and for the off-chance he would ever be in a situation he could only tolerate as a child. 

Homura: This is the herb you want so much...but then what will you do after that?

Gilgamesh: Maybe like you.....

Homura: But if you still go back......again and again.....

Gilgamesh: I chose to walk this path as King....even it would change me forever......I can't go back, Homura. Just like before.....together with Danny.

Homura: Punch.......

Gilgamesh: I won't rely on anyone anymore! I don't care if no one understands! I won't let Punch die like in Prime World timeline! I'll destroy everything by myself if I have to! And this time... I'll change the future...If the world wants to give me misfortune, I'll give misfortune back to the world!

Homura: Then I will help you.

Gilgamesh: What about Danny? He didn't remember what happened in the prime world timeline.

Homura: If we find Danny, he will gladly to join us and help us.

Gilgamesh: Are you sure? Maybe you will become an enemy of humanity.

Homura: Not maybe. We lack ¨humanity¨. We are not human. So this is mostly a show in order to make others avoid me, as well as a coping mechanism to avoid becoming attached to those whose deaths I saw many times.

Gilgamesh: That's right.....we already saw deaths so many times and maybe forever.......

The epic shows this through the repetition of the opening lines, and through its concurrent theme that to struggle against mortality and fate is a poor decision, one that causes harm to those around Gilgamesh and causes him to suffer. merthur fanfic prompt cause duh im unhinged

inspired by the line “i realized, there’s not a lot of space in my life for good things.” in the dragonlord’s son by yulianahenderson

and it made me think of merlin saying:

“if i have you, i cant have anyone else. if i have everyone else, i cant have you.” (super sadly; maybe after magic reveal/confession, good reaction, and merlin’s explanation)

↳ merlin remembering the people he’s lost; freya, will, balinor, lancelot and elyan (depending on when the fic is set). and he’s scared of losing everyone else in his life because of him/his magic/his love for arthur

i think after all this, arthur would lift the ban on magic and constantly remind merlin that he’s never alone, that he can be there with everyone else merlin loves, even bringing hunith to camelot and offering for her to stay as long as she likes.

once merlin realizes what arthur’s doing and how he keeps trying and won’t give up, he starts to accept that maybe this is his golden age.

arthur sees merlin finally accepting that maybe he can have it all and he’s so happy for his warlock.

a few months after the ban was lifted and merlin has been more content, arthur asks if merlin will be his court warlock (because “yes merlin, i know you’re not a sorcerer, i do listen to you sometimes”)

about a week after the ceremony instating merlin as court warlock, arthur tells merlin the real reason why he tried so hard to make merlin realize he could have everyone he loved and still keep arthur.

“thank you, arthur. thank you for not giving up on me,” merlin’s lips brush against arthur’s as he whispers. “i love you. i love you. i love you,” merlin mumbles between kisses, arthur just happy to have merlin this close.

merlin leans away, keeping his arms around his kings neck, the most content he’s ever looked.

“i love you, arthur pendragon. i’m so in love with you,” tears begin to fall from merlin’s eyes. “i love you with all i am.”

merlin lunges to catch arthur in a searing kiss, desperate to be as close to his king as possible.

I can’t with this man Goodbye, Arthur Pendragon / chapter 17, part 2 / the wedding vows

(A side-note, but: it’s Arthur’s wedding vows that really hammered home for me just how tragic it would be for him to lose Guinevere to Lancelot, more than the other way around. In Lancelot’s case, the only thing stopping them from finding love at the start of the story was their own inhibitions – and even if Guinevere doesn’t choose them in the end, the fact that she broke down their walls & opened them up to love is a positive outcome, a gift that they will always carry with them & that gives them hope for finding someone in the future. But in Arthur’s case? Arthur has no trouble loving – if anything, he loves too hard, and too fast. Arthur’s trouble is that he is bound by duty to marry for the sake of Camelot, to choose a wife who will make a good queen & a good alliance above a wife whom he loves, or who loves him back. He was unbelievably lucky that his first betrothed, Guinevere, even came close to being a love match for him, and – that type of luck doesn’t really happen twice. Plus, if Guinevere doesn’t choose Arthur, then he never really gets to reach the realisations above. He never really gets to believe that he can follow both his duty & his heart, because the one time he tried, he got stopped in his tracks. Everything he told Guinevere about feeling lonely despite being surrounded by people, wishing he could share the burden of the crown, longing for a partner who would truly understand him – all of that still applies to him, and his way out of it is even less clear than it was before. It’s an absolutely heartbreaking outcome for Arthur, and perhaps the worst part is that he takes it with so much grace, as if he always semi-expected it. He always semi-felt like Guinevere was too good to be true, or like he didn’t deserve her. And I am so, so grateful that, in at least some playthroughs, we get to tell him that he does 🥺).

A/n: silly little drabble that I wrote the other night 💖

You and I walk a fragile line

I have known it all this time

But I never thought I'd live to see it break

Morgana would sit at the end of the long table and watch his brother eat. She would observe him tear the meat with his sharp teeth and ask herself if, one day, she would be the meat on his plate, if one day, her brother would hang her on the wall amongst the other beast he had slaughtered.

“Is there something wrong, sister?” Arthur cleaned his mouth with his cloth.

Every movement was carefully chosen to not upset him.

“Of course not, brother” she smiled.

It's getting dark and it's all too quiet

And I can't trust anything now

And it's coming over you like it's all a big mistake

Morgana rushed to her room. She wanted to be there before the tears that were burning her eyes would fall. Merlin had rejected her request for help once more. She needed his help to remind her brother that magical creatures weren’t dangerous but the wizard ignored her once again. She wondered when the old man had forgotten what he was. What it meant to be a wizard in a place like Camelot.

In the darkness of her chambers, Morgana cried. Cried like never before. Whatever was the outcome of this war she would lose.

Suddenly, the world slowed down. A scream erupted from her chest. Her arm wouldn’t stop bleeding, her hand was no longer there.

She looked at her brother with the same disdain he had seen her all those years as she took a step back.

Stood there and watched you walk away

“No” he screamed, tears falling from his eyes.

His sister fell from the cliff, her head hitting the ground making a noise Arthur would never forget.

He stood there, watching her sister's lifeless body being carried away by the tide “No” he whispered as the sea swallowed the last person he loved.

He cursed God, he cursed himself. Magic had taken everything from him and he would put an end to this.

A retelling of Morgan le Fay? Sign me up. The story follows Morgan’s early life as a misunderstood but magical woman who is dealing with not only a difficult family situation but a forbidden love and untapped magical powers. Morgan lives a happy life in Tintagel with her beloved father, until he is killed and now King Uther Pendragon along has violated her mother and taken the throne for himself. Morgan was born with a fiery temper and she will not let this brutal man stop her. She is educated in secret, discovering a love for ealing and soon finding a love of her own, albeit a forbidden one. But all good things end and soon she finds herself separated from her beloved and forced into a marriage she does not want. Things only get worse for her as she loses her love, is forced to deal with a husband who is terrible, and isolated and threatened. But Morgan has magic and a will that is unbreakable. This is the first book in the series if I am correct and so it ends very abruptly and you still have so many questions left. This book was just a really long read of this poor woman facing horrible circumstance after horrible circumstance. Everyone in it is unlikable ( except for you Alys) and you just kind of want Morgan to burn this whole place to the ground and just run off. Don’t even get me started on the angst of that relationship, definitely not a good time. Seriously this was a frustrating read and I just didn’t have a good time with it at all by the end. I am a huge fan of arthurian retellings but this one kind of just missed the mark for me unfortunately. So despite that, if you are looking for a Morgan le Fay retelling, give this a go maybe it will work out better for you than it did for me.

Honestly, I can see Morgana as Regina. She could be the mayor of Camelot, who rigged the election in her favor, leading to her half-brother, Arthur, losing the elections as mayor.

Merlin, though? Merlin could have a mix of storylines. He could be a young man who doesn't remember anything about his life as Merlin the Warlock and comes back to Camelot county after years of absence. His return ushers strange happenings, leading Morgana to do everything in her power to stop them.

🤔I don't know how the story would go, but I have the feeling there'd be a lot of UST, angst, attraction, denial of feelings, among other things. 😂

tbf tho. If there is one thing I learned about The Arthurian Cycle Morgan Le Fay is that she is every Antagonist Girlboss Femme Fatale Ever. Therefore BBC Morgana and Regina would get along. They can both run kingdoms or cities with an iron hand and um agreeable facade.

Merlin is tricky. He isn't someone you'd normally consider for a disney character. He's more of a Marvel superhero. He's like an unholy lovechild between Captain America / Natasha Romanov coz he's like a cinderella character on the outside but is actually some sort of idealistic secret service assassin when no one is looking.

Idk where he fits in storybrooke unless storybrooke gets sucked into the Marvel Multiverse as well.

For funsies make Merlin's day job as a someone who's generally unassuming and helpful... like a librarian or a nurse/EMT or Arthur's PA.

Morgana would be like "OOH WHO IS THIS NEW PRETTY GUY" and for some reason, there is a big town emergency and she recognizes Merlin's heroic work in the background (while her brother gets all the credit). Morgana starts to get attracted to this humble dude who had wormed his way into heart of their circle of friends (i.e the town's elite where the pendragons and the rest of knights belong)

All the while Merlin in the background is just.. uppending the whole social order she had created (idk how). This AU's Morgana would also go mad and paranoid especially if she doesn't know who she is actually fighting with in the shadows. AND SHE AND MERLIN KEEP FALLING FOR EACH OTHER. Merlin regains his memories with every "good thing against morgana" he inadvertently starts/causes. He realizes he was just repeating history and by that time Morgana is sooo close to finding him out.

Set up for failure

“I warned you.” Merlin turned to face Arthur, his eyes bright with anger. “I warned you time and time again, do not do this. And what did you go and do? You set yourself up for failure Arthur!” Merlin yelled the last part. He grinned his teeth as he saw Arthur taking a step back.

“Merls, please just stop for a second.” There was a pleading note in his voice as he took a step forward, hands held upfront. He knew and he understood deeply why Merlin was so angry, but this wasn’t the time for it.

Merlin forced himself to take a deep breath. “When you marry her, just know that you will lose Camelot, the people hate her. And your father knows that, so why he is forcing this, just he knows it.” He mumbled the last part slightly as he slumped forward, giving Arthur a defeated look.

Arthur was silent as he just looked at his servant, the one person who was beside him the whole time. His best friend, his advisor. And maybe the one person he cared about, to see him so angry about this, he wasn’t certain why, but he wanted to make it right.

The only problem he had no idea how to do that. “I will fix it, I promise.” The words came out in a rush, as he took another step closer. Panic high. “I will sort it.” Arthur finally took a step back. His mind blank as he took in the look on Merlin’s face.

It was clear that he would only have one chance to make this right. And he will need to do it right.

“You are dismissed for the evening.” Arthur pulled out the chair, almost falling into it, as he just looked at Merlin, unsure of what to say.

Arthur looked out of the window; the sun was slow to setting. For the first time today, it finally felt like he could breathe. He had a plan, it wasn’t great, but it should work. It must work, there is no choice in it.

He could feel the turmoil inside him growing as he just kept on staring out of the window. Merlin’s words ran through his head, that it was just a set-up. To make him fail. If this failed it wouldn’t have mattered, he would have brought dishonour to the Pendragon name, and worse it would bring war to Camelot.

Something that he wanted to avoid at all costs.

Still, he couldn’t help but feel wrong, to kill someone in cold blood. There must be another way. He leaned forward, fingers pressed against the glass.

Just breathe, all will be fine.

Darkness finally fell, and he could faintly hear servants running around finishing their last few duties. Finally, the castle fell silent.

With easy movements he pulled a dagger from the back of his cupboard, taking a deep breath he shed it, making sure that it would be hidden if anyone saw him. He moved from hallway to hallway making sure to keep to the shadows.

Before he finally stopped in front of her room. Another glanced to make sure the passage was clear, and he pushed the door open, slipping into the dark room. For a moment everything screamed at him, that he needed to leave.

That this wasn’t right.

One change to make it right.

The two sides were like a war in his mind. He needed to make this right. He needed to make sure that it wouldn’t become a failure. That there was still a chance for his kingdom, for the vision Merlin believed in.

This wasn’t right

He had to make it right. He wasn’t sure how he ended up before he drove the dagger down, there was a slight resistance and then blood splatter as he pulled the dagger out.

Only one thing to do, he needed to make it right.

Arthur took a step back, the dagger fell to the ground, and blood was everywhere. He could see the fear in her eyes, but she was dead. He forced himself to breathe, he needed to leave before someone found him here.

To get clean, to make it as if nothing happened.

He wasn’t sure how he got back to his room, the blood clinging to his hands. He closed the door with a slight tremble, as he finally slumped down into the floor. She was dead.

And that is all that matters. Nothing else.

He forced himself upright, he could feel the trembling in his lips as he made his way to the bath, scrubbing the blood from his hands.

Arthur wasn’t certain how long he had sat on the floor, staring before him, when Merlin entered the room.

Merlin glanced at the prince, cursing under his breath, as he rushed forward. “What happened?” He whispered the words as he took in the bloody dagger and clothes.

Arthur tilted his head slightly before he whispered. “I fixed the problem.” He gave Merlin a wry smile.

“Alright. Let’s get you cleaned up and make certain there is nothing to point to you.” Merlin easily ignored the feeling of worry that wanted to overwhelm him, rather than focusing on getting Arthur cleaned up.

They were just done when the bell rang, and immediately thereafter the sound of guards running, Merlin just gave Arthur a silent look, a promise that he would be behind him the whole time. Hoping that Arthur wouldn’t fail.

There is no second chance, just the change they had at the moment.

*pained noises* Both Tom and Elyan's deaths can be linked back to their desire to look after Gwen. Tom was to be executed for his involvement with a sorcerer and the only reason he did this was to get more money to provide a better life for Gwen. Elyan died saving/ protecting Gwen. And in addition to this, Morgana also indirectly killed both of them. Morgana is the one that gave Tom the key to escape his cell and he was killed for escaping (Uther would have killed Tom regardless so its not entirely Morgana’s fault, and Uther has the blame, but her actions are what ultimately lead to his death), and she is the one that enchanted the sword that killed Elyan. Morgana couldn't take Gwen's crown but she sure did take everything else, huh?

You opened your eyes and took a minute to look at yourself in the mirror. You were wearing a long white dress, your wedding dress, but that wasn’t what you were noticing. It was your wedding day, but instead of having a smile on your face, your face was neutral.

You and Arthur had known each other forever and he was your fist everything: first crush, first kiss, first boyfriend, first time… You loved him. Screw that, you were in love with him. You had known that ever since he grabbed your hand for the first time, while helping you learn how to hold a sword. And Arthur had once loved you too, years ago. But you couldn’t deny what was in front of you: Arthur was in love with Guinevere.

Gwen was Morgana’s servant, but she was so much more than that to Arthur, and anyone who couldn’t see that was blind. You had tried to deny it, but deep down you knew Arthur would never look at you the way he looked at her. You wanted this marriage to work, but you didn’t want to be trapped in a marriage with someone who wasn’t fully committed to you just for the sake of both kingdoms.

Your thoughts were interrupted by two loud voices outside of your bedroom. You immediately recognized one as Arthur, who was screaming at someone, who you were pretty sure was Merlin. Your suspects were confirmed when you heard Merlin, who sounded annoyed at Arthur, has per usual. You heard a loud knock on the door, and more complaints from Arthur outside.

“Come in!” You yelled, taking a deep breath. You didn’t know who to expect: Merlin or Arthur. Merlin quickly opened the door, ordering Arthur to stay outside. “Merlin, hello. Do you need something?”

“y/n, you look absolutely gorgeous.” You gave him a kind smile and walked closer to him. “Arthur wants to talk to you, and I was just explaining how it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding. But he won’t shut up about it, so I insisted on talking to you before.” You chuckled at Merlin’s tone.

“Let him in, Merlin. I needed to see him, anyway. Oh, and thank you for checking in. It was really nice of you.” He nodded at you and walked out the room, glancing at Arthur before doing so. Arthur walked in, his hands covering his eyes so he wouldn’t see you. He walked against a mobile, letting out a grunt. You laughed at him and walked over to him, in order to help him. “You do know you can open your eyes, right?”

“Merlin said it gives bad luck. I don’t this wedding to be cursed or something.” Your smiled faded as quickly as it had appeared, and you turned around, not wanting to face him. You knew you had to say something. “Wow. You look dashing, y/n. I mean, you always look amazing, but now… just wow.” Normally, you would have smiled or blushed at what he said, but you couldn’t. Not when you were about to call off your wedding. Not when you were about to lose the love of your life. “Are you doing alright? You don’t look okay. Was it something I said?”

“Arthur, I love you.” You blurred out, knowing that it was one of the last times you’d say it.

“I know. I love you too, y/n. For god’s sake, I’m about to marry you.” You sighed and turned to look at him. He just didn’t understand. Boys were so obvious.

“But you’re not in love with me, right?” Your voice was staring to break, showing how you felt inside. Broken. He opened his mouth, but you continued speaking before he could. “Don’t try to deny it, Arthur. I know it. I see the way you look at Gwen. You have never looked at me that way…”

“y/n, where is this coming from? We are about to get married! I proposed to you! I… I love you. Ever since we were kids.” He tried to grab your hand, but you stopped him. He raised his eyebrows, surprised at the move. You had never done something like that before.

“You didn’t answer my question. Are you in love with me? Do you think about me day and night? Do you wait all day to fall asleep next to me? Do you feel like you can’t breath every time I’m around you? Are you in love with me like I am in love with you, Arthur?” He stayed quiet, not knowing exactly how to answer. You took that has a no. “Of course not… how could I have been so stupid?! It was always Gwen, wasn’t it?”

“y/n, I promise you, I can forget about her. I can fall in love with you!” This time he did grab your hand, firmly, so you couldn’t stop him. “Please, don’t do what I think you’re about to do.”

“You have left me with no choice, Arthur… I’m calling off this wedding.” He looked at you in disbelief, still assimilating those words.

“No.” That was the only word that left his mouth. A simple no. You scoffed, shaking your head. He didn’t even bother to fight for you, he didn’t make that effort. “I don’t want you to do this… I can fix this.”

“There’s nothing here to fix! Love isn’t supposed to be one sided, Arthur. I don’t want to keep you in a marriage where you’ll be unhappy. Not when I’ve spent my whole life loving you. It’s not fair to you, but mostly, it isn’t fair to me.”

“I don’t want you to hate me, y/n. I never meant to hurt you. I mean this. I really wish I could fall in love with you and not feel the way I feel about Gwen…” You nodded, a sad smile on your face. Your eyes were tearing up, tears slowly rolling down your cheeks.

“I know. And I could never possibly hate you, Arthur. Now go find Gwen. Give her the big news. I’ll ask Merlin to tell the king that I called off the wedding.” Arthur hugged you, something you weren’t expecting, but it was well taken nonetheless. You hugged him back, tears falling on his shirt. He stepped back and gave you one final look, before rushing out. And just like that, you saw the love of your life walk away, taking a part of you with him.
