Art can be so hard, no matter how many times I draw or do digital art I always second guess myself. I’m sure this is common, but jeez. I’ve been drawing most of my life and I still go “??? Do I remember how to do this???”

Man, I'm feeling pretty discouraged about my art. I feel like I'm so close to saying "whats the point?". It has been obvious due to the number of people who view my stuff vs. actually following that my art isn't interesting or eye-catching enough for a more popular following. I'm not particularly a fan artist, mostly an OC artist, which already puts me in the caboose of the art world.
Hell, even when i DO post fan art, most of the time, it doesn't even get seen beyond my current audience. Rarely do i get mentioned or invited to art things, and it's pretty difficult to get commissioned lately.
I don't know. It's mostly a vent post, but... I find myself staring at WIPs, wondering if they will be finished and good enough for the internet, and maybe eventually be noticed by creative employers. I've been drawing for 23+ years and fear i will never be good enough no matter how much I practice. I can feel myself slowing down

you can like artists but learn to appreciate and support them please
anyway, for context, people have come to me for free requests when I do commissions professionally and have stated that I DO COMMISSIONS PROFESSIONALLY. A person using account A to be very nice to me only to use account B to ask whether or not I’d be willing to draw a topic I’m very disgusted at for free. Someone saying my art being stolen and reposted means that people respect me. People getting angry at me and claim how much of a jerk I am the moment I’m no longer a docile art making machine and show human emotions like anger or disappointment. That sucks. It really sucks. I draw for fun, yes. My fun. If you enjoy that too then good for you. But please understand that even the silliest doodle requires time, it requires effort, it requires some kind of dedication. Even more so with fully made art.
Anyway, if you read this post, a non artist and wonder how you can be better? Like and reblog. Follow. Maybe reply and make an artist’s day. If you have spare, send them a ko-fi. If you have abundance then maybe buy a commission. Buy a merch. Buy a print. Support their hustle. Don’t repost. Don’t steal their work. If you see their art reposted, link it back to the original artist. Send people to the original artist’s page and if they have other hustle, promote them. If an artist state no free request, then don’t ask them. Don’t treat artists like some machine you think can fulfill your whim for free and in an instant. Again, art required effort and time; to think, to compose, to make. And if, IF, none of these are possible to do for you???? But you still like the art anyway???? Just give a like. You don’t have to do anything else. That’s enough.

Trying to come up with a Neosona design I feel represents me, though it still needs work. Been a while since I drew Neopets. Based the outfit of the top one on Don Karnage from Talespin. Kept the pose simple so I could focus on the design
Drawing references under cut

I think a good approach to art is “finish it, chuck it in and draw and move onto the next one”
when you’re starting out you want every drawing you do to be good, you agonise over it or you stare at a blank page too anxious because there’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to get it out how you want
but you gotta treat them as disposable. By going through and finishing too can learn as you go (pay attention) the things you need to improve upon at every step
if you want it to be good or your best you will be adjusting it forever (an easy trap to get into with digital) or never finish it at all and cast it aside in frustration
make the art. Make it shit and learn from it as you go

Found out my dad uses AI "art" on his posts because somehow the asshole couldn't find one image about faith online. He knows that shit affects me and my work, and that its harmful, he just doesn't care because it only matters when it affects him personally.
Now im the bad guy because i blocked him on social media.
