i am unironically obsessed with adam west batman not only trying to be a good dad to robin, but actually succeeding. also love robin's insane energy levels and his ability to go from seething bloodlust to manic glee in record time. i think any superman worth his S would fit right into the family ^_^

I don't know why it took me a couple re-readings of this scene to realize they're in Laios & Falin's room at the inn. I wanted to use background details to piece together where each of them are standing.
The first time I read it, I assumed everyone was crowding around outside like the ending of how to train your dragon, but since they're on the second floor, they're actually all crowded in the hallway! somehow that detail is a lot cuter to me :D

Meanwhile, over in the amatuer art corner...
I decided I wanted to do another Dragon Zuko, but a different one. I remembered that the lovely @sulkybender had a dragon zuko - story sometimes you can’t stay on your own mainland - which I actually had not read. Like all (well, lots!) of their work, it is highly emotional with poetic prose and a life affirming ending, and definately worth the read!
The description of the dragon though -
Zuko’s scales are like mirrors: they reflect the warm blue of the skies, the whiteness of clouds, the flash of the sun. When he flies, he vanishes completely
I read that and thought - well never mind. How do you draw a dragon you can’t see?
But later I thought… how can you draw a dragon you can’t see?
So here you go, some super hide-y trying to blend in zuko!dragons. Try to spot them if you can.
This probably verges more into "art inspired by fanfiction" than fan art per say, but whatever. Art is just for fun.
Water based markers.
Water
A dragon flying over ocean waves. These are marker drawings, but the outline technique is from this lovely water color butterfly tutorial. Andrea is a treasure. Technically the dragon should probably be reflecting clouds rather than water? But then he wouldn’t be a hide-y dragon.
Earth
A dragon flying by rocky cliffs. I was trying to evoke “inhospitable mountains” but I probably should have gone less tan/brown, more gray.
Fire Lightning
Lighting beats fire today because lightning is in the sky. This one is not as hidden as the others, but the colors are fun. This is my five year old’s favorite but he did tell me that lightning is supposed to be yellow. Point taken.
Air
Dragon in the clouds. They are supposed to be sunset clouds but they came out a bit cartoony. Which is fine because it’s fun. Link to a helpful cloud tutorial, though I did skip the gel pen step.
And bonus, my first attempt. I like it enough to throw it in this post, but it loses points for uneven wings, two angry accident clouds, and some awkward cloud-to-sky cutoffs.
If you have made it this far you should probably go ahead and read the story.

To illustrate this post by @mayahawkse I would like to visualize to you the difference:
A post in 2023:
A post in 2014:
A zoom out of the same post:
This is what a community looks like.
See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.
