finished flower pillarmen sticker set
these will be available for purchase online (TBA) and at Gamma expo in Canberra on the 9/10th of September. (Please consider following to keep an eye on online sale updates if you are interested, as I will be setting that up after the convention!)
Each sticker's flower choice was very specific, and I've decided to detail why I chose each one to explain the intricacies of each one to you. Please keep in mind I'm not a flower expert, this is just what I found online in my own research - my sources are at the bottom!
-
flower meanings
Kars
❥ Purple Roses symbolize royalty, luxury, and opulence, exuding mystery and charm. These flowers also evoke admiration and wonder. I chose these to reference Kars' wonder and mystery towards the sun, plus the regal and opulent vibes of Kars in his entirety worked well. ❥ Blue Roses symbolize mystery, secrecy, and pride. Their rarity, as well as their color, makes them unique among the other flowers in the garden. I feel like this references Kars' unique mindset well, and the fact that he was both a standout genius and a catalyst in the Pillarman tribe.
Esidisi
❥ Irises symbolize faith, hope, wisdom, and uncertainty. Its intricate shape and complex pattern make it hard to know what it is trying to say. I chose this flower to represent Esidisi's unpredictable and uncertain nature, and his unwavering loyalty and faith in Kars' plan. ❥ Bluebells symbolize humility, gratitude, and uncertainty (again). Bluebells also have a short and fleeting flowering period, which reminds us that all things in life are temporary. The bluebell captured Esidisi's story perfectly to me, so I not only used this to reaffirm his unpredictable nature, but to also encapsulate Esidisi as a whole.
Wamuu
❥ Poppies and Cornflowers together symbolize war. Cornflowers and poppies appeared on the battlefields at the end of the First World War, and for many symbolised the fragility of life and the hope of rebirth. As a warrior, I believe the combination of Poppies and Cornflowers together perfectly tie in with Wamuu's story, referencing his life as a warrior and his honorable end. ❥ Poppies symbolize commemoration and sacrifice, and are a common war memorial flower. ❥ White Cornflowers symbolize remembrance, innocence, sympathy, and mourning. Cornflowers come in a few different colours, however, and some more broader meanings include power, devotion, unity, and prosperity.
Santana
❥ Dahlias symbolize commitment, honesty, strength, and the ability to withstand harsh conditions. They can also symbolize the ability to stay kind despite being tested by certain life events, and when gifted, they could be a warning of a potential betrayal. They are also native to Mexico, and the Aztecs used this plant as a treatment against epilepsy. I chose these for multiple reasons. One, they are native to the same area that the Pillarmen originate from, and more specifically the place where Santana was born and where he fell. He withstood harsh conditions, having been left behind and treated poorly, and one could argue betrayed by those who raised him. Through it all, Santana is strong and sturdy- he was bested by Jojo, is the only remaining pillarman on Earth (although, held captive under UV light). ❥ Forget-me-nots symbolize remembrance and mourning traditionally, however they also carry several other meanings including grief, devotion, power, and intelligence I chose this flower for a few reasons again as well. One, the name- Santana is often forgotten, as he is so quickly introduced and then written off, however Santana plays a very important role in the series. But also, for the sadder side of the flower, it brings depth to how I believe Santana would have felt being left behind- sad, yet devoted still to the only kin he has.

"Sid Meier's Civilization is actually about a group of immortal god kings condemned to forever struggle against each other in a never ending cosmic game in which their empires and nations are but pawns" gets brought up as a funny 'ha ha' joke about Civ, but the thing is that is the most supported reading of the game's mechanics, writing, art direction, and even trailers.
But what's really funny is that each new installment leans harder into this idea then the last. With Civ 7 making it so that leaders aren't even tied down to their 'historic' civilizations (meaning you can't even argue the 'national personification' thing anymore) and since Civs can change while leaders can't, that means that leaders are also the only constant across an entire campaign.
This means, for example, in the universe of Civilization, the likes of Gaius Octavius, Hatshepsut, Napoleon, and even Gandhi are constantly reborn, take up leadership of a small singular village, live for uncountable eons (unless slain by another Leader or dethroned), rebuild the same nation, people, empire over and over and over again with only slight variations, until one achieves victory over the others (be it by sending their people into the stars, building a society that culturally subsumes all others, conquering the world, or otherwise somehow 'winning history' by the metrics they held dear in their mortal lives) and gains...nothing as far as we know.
We don't know if they wither to dust instantly Gothel style, or reign until the heat death of the universe, or begin aging and live out a mortal life for however long remains to them. All we know for certain is that they are right back there again at the stone age as soon as the next game starts, becoming chiefs of a tribe of thatched roved houses on some unrecognizable landmass, with nothing to do but start all lover again from scratch. Build the same walls and monuments and wonders, fight the same endlessly shifting battles against the same rivals. Maybe this time Rome is stamped out in antiquity, and maybe this time is launches the first space colony. Maybe Egypt raises up the pyramids once more, and maybe they raise up the Colossus, or the Hanging Gardens, or Statue of Liberty, or the Sydney Opera House. Maybe Napoleon's France finally achieves perfect ideal democracy, or maybe his warring ways lead a coalition of Japan, China, the Gauls, and Sumerians facing off against him all over again. Maybe Gandhi decides mutually assured destruction is the only way to protect world peace. The names change, the lands and continents change, the ages change, eventually even the civilizations themselves change- Gaius finds himself the Emperor of Egypt and Hatsheput the Queen of the United States of America- but the only thing that doesn't change is the leaders. Their configurations vary and sometimes they face off against a newcomer they haven't before, but always it ultimately comes back to a group of immortal rulers- the great and the good, the wicked and the genius, the mad and the unlikely, and the just plain lucky that one and all ended up in the history books- who keep trying to take one more swing, one more run, one more turn at fulling the ambitions of their mortal life, and leading their people to glory.
Because the only way to break the cycle, to the end the game (both in universe and out) is to stop playing. Give up. Stop pushing that glowing little arrow button. Stop following the ambitions, the ideals, the dreams, the hopes that lead them here in the first place.
But just like Civ players and just like humans in general, they never do.

Prestwald Hall
Hi guys!!
I'm sharing Prestwald Hall . This is the 9th building for my English Manors Collection, and I will add many more!
House History: Prestwold Hall was, for many years, the seat of the Packe family. Before that time, it was the home of the Skipwith family. After the death of Major Robert Christopher Packe (born c.1783) - one time Aide-de-camp to King George III - who was killed during the Battle of Waterloo, the hall passed to his nephew George Hussey Packe who held the hall and estate until his death in 1874.
The Hall was remodelled by architect William Burn in 1842–1844, incorporating the fabric of a mid-18th-century H-plan house. It was Grade I listed in 1951.
One of the finest rooms inside the house is the Entrance Hall with its richly coloured marbled plaster work in the Italian style. The painted ceiling was inspired by Raphael’s Vatican grotesques and incorporates miniature landscapes, showing the house before and after its remodelling between 1842 and 1844. Below the ceiling, wreathing the room, are small medallion busts of the poets from Chaucer to Scott, positioned in the spandrels and are likely inspired by Alberti's external arcade at the Tempio Malatestiano in Rimini. An arcade opens on to a vaulted corridor leading to a top lit inner hall: these spaces also marbled. Off the corridor, the cantilevered stone staircase survives from the eighteenth century house, and was given its bracketed brass balusters by William Wilkins (1751-1815) in 1805.
The Dining Room, added by Wilkins in 1805, was incorporated into the remodelling undertaken by the Scottish architect William Burn in 1842. The room is overlooked by two dramatic full length portraits of Sir Edward Hussey Packe, KBE (1878 – 1946) and the Hon. Lady Mary Sydney Packe (née Colebrooke, 1890 – 1973) by the painter Glyn Philpot RA (1844 – 1947). The portrait of Lady Packe, painted in 1911, was described by the art historian Robin Gibson OBE as an ‘amazing feat of virtuosity’. Its elongated elegance and introspective characterisation is totally without the fashion-plate vulgarity of much Edwardian portraiture. Other portraits hang in this room of the Packe family including a painting of Sir Christopher Packe (1595 – 1682) who purchased the house in the 17th century painted by Cornelis Janssens van Ceulen (1593 –1661).
The library extends nearly the entire length of the house when the large doors that separate it from the drawing room are opened, connecting the two rooms. With clever use of constructional steel, William Burn was able to create these long adjoining rooms. The windows rise from floor level and open onto the garden which enhances the notion that Prestwold was designed in the style of an Italian classical villa. The doors and bookcases in library were made for George Hussey Packe (1846–1908) by Gillows of Lancaster and London in 1875.
A conservatory fills the recessed central bay at the front of the house, and projects out towards the garden. Behind the glass and elegant Doric pilasters, are well planted raised beds with a number of exotic plants and flowers

Beetle Bracket
The substack is over now, it's time to be honest. None of us truly needed The Beetle in our lives. And do you know what we need even less? That's right:
The Beetle Sexyman* Bracket!
*gender, species, and probably even sexiness-neutral
That said, let's subject ourselves to this anyway.
Tumblr media
There will be a grand total of five rounds, at the end of which the burning question will finally be answered: who is sexiest in Richard Marsh's The Beetle?
The Beetle Bracket is complete! See below for our final competitor's trophies, and below the cut for number breakdowns/writeups of each round.
Tumblr media
Round One Breakdown
In the exact opposite of a shocking twist, Mr. Lindon was absolutely demolished by Train. Out of 130 votes, he got only 0.8%, compared to Train's whopping 90%. Excluding em-dash votes, that adds up to 117 for votes for Train and a measly 1 for Mr. Lindon.
Perhaps the biggest challenge this round was telling the contestants apart (at least in the wonderful accompanying art). However, people pulled through for Edwards, deeming that his ability to survive Sydney is the sexier quality. Out of 55 votes, Edwards won with 52.7%, compared to Peter's 27.3%. Excluding em-dash votes, that's 29 votes for Edwards, and 15 for Peter.
Brick Guy aimed his stones at the voters' hearts, it seems! Out of 58 votes, he won handily with 87.9%, while Mrs. Henderson netted a mere 5.2%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 51 votes for Brick Guy, and 3 for Mrs. Henderson.
Another easy victory! The Flirty Constable was confirmed far sexier than Louisa Coleman, who could only disapprove out her window. Out of 47 votes, he got 83%, against Louisa Coleman's 8.5%. Excluding em-dash votes, that's 38 votes for Brick Guy, and 4 for Louisa Coleman.
We always knew this would be the real nail-biter of Round One, and it didn't disappoint! The vote was the closest by far, and both contestants exchanged the winning spot multiple times, but in the end Cat narrowly eked out a win... true to life, at least in my experience of cat vs. carpet battles. Out of 152 votes, Cat won with 44.7%, against Carpet's 42.1%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 68 votes for Cat, and 64 for Carpet.
One last gimme to finish us off this round. Out of 65 votes, Glove Seller won with 80%, Matthews trailing at 15.4%. Excluding em-dash votes, that adds up to 52 votes for Glove Seller, and 10 for Matthews.
Round Two Breakdown
Look, he's no Superman - Robert Holt stood no chance against this runaway Train, it seems. Out of 102 votes, it barreled to victory with 58.8% against Bobert's 31.4%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 60 votes for the train, and 32 for Holt.
Nearly everyone agrees that No One is sexier than Augustus Champnell! No, not like that. I mean, the detective is significantly less sexy than the mere concept of no one at all. Out of 64 votes, No One handily won with 81.3% against Augustus's 9.4%. Excluding em-dash votes, that is 52 votes for No One, and 6 for Augustus Champnell.
Marjorie Lindon may have three men canonically head-over-heels for her, but neither Edwards nor Tumblr count among those numbers - though this was the closest match this round. Out of 41 votes, he quickly defeated her with 48.8% against her 31.7%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 20 votes for Edwards and 13 for Marjorie.
Percy Woodville doesn't want to fight - but luckily the voters were willing to do so for him! Out of 43 votes, he took 58.1%, compared to Brick Guy's 30.2%. Excluding em-dash votes, that becomes 25 votes for Percy, and 13 for Brick Guy.
The Beetle has many mystical abilities. Chief of these, it seems, is being literally the only main character to survive their first round in the sexyman contest! Speaks to the (lack of) sexiness in Marsh's writing, I suppose. Out of 104 votes, The Beetle won easily with 66.3%, while the Flirty Policeman only had 13.5%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 69 votes for Theb (nice), and 14 for the policeman.
He survived it twice, thanks to Edwards and The Beetle (more worthy competitors according to this round), but the third time seems to have been the charm. Sydney Atherton was absolutely slaughtered by Atherton's Magic Vapour! Out of 47 votes, the murdergas got 72.3% compared to Sydney's 17%. Excluding em-dash votes, that adds up to 34 votes for the vapour, and only 8 for its creator.
The Cat is no longer just lurking outside Paul Lessingham's house in hopes of pets and food. Oh no, it's shaping up to be a fierce competitor indeed! Out of 58 votes, it won easily with 58.6%, versus Paul's 29.3%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 34 votes for our favorite feline, and only 17 for the erstwhile statesman.
Glove Seller took an early lead, and Dora Grayling simply never caught up. Honestly, she'd probably be fine with it, she only cares about Sydney anyway. Out of 74 votes, Glove Seller easily won with 47.3%, Dora only getting 33.8%. Excluding em-dash votes, that equals 35 for Glove Seller, and 25 for Dora.
Round Three Breakdown
In any other sexyman bracket this matchup might not have meant so much, but I think we all understand these were some top contenders who both deserve our respect. Still, only one could continue on... and with the narrowest margin of victory in the entire bracket thus far, that turned out to be the Train! Out of 56 votes, it won with 46.4% against No One's 41.1%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 26 votes for Train, and 23 for No One. (Cat vs. Carpet had a difference of 4 votes, being the second-closest match. I'm loving that the fiercest battles are the ones with no people involved.)
Percy Woodville's charms carried the day once again, this time with a rather dramatic lead. I'm sure he's much more surprised than we are. Out of 38 votes, he had 78.9%, leaving Edwards in the dust with 10.5%. Excluding em-dash votes, that adds up to 30 votes for Percy, and 4 for Edwards.
Perhaps it's The Beetle's sheer unbridled charisma, perhaps it's the fact that the vapour has 'Atherton' in the name... Either way, this round was a slam dunk for our favorite coleoptera, proving that at least in this case canon was onto something. Out of 83 votes, The Beetle took 72.3% while Atherton's Magic Vapour could only muster up 13.3%. Excluding em-dash votes, that equals 60 for Theb, and just 11 for the vapour.
Well, it had a good run... but in the end the Cat just didn't know what to do in the face of that many gloves, just like everyone else Glove Seller has come up against. (It's fine, I'm officially declaring that she adopted it. These matches only end in death when the loser sucks.) Out of 52 votes, Glove Seller won with 53.8% versus Cat's 40.4%. Excluding em-dash votes, that would be 28 for Glove Seller, and 21 for the kitty.
Round Four Breakdown
He put up a good fight, and managed to close the initial gap somewhat, but in the end Percy just didn't have the requisite sexiness to defeat the mighty Train. Out of 63 votes, it won with 60.3%, against Percy's 28.6%. Excluding em-dash votes, that equals 38 votes for Train, and 18 for Percy.
Glove Seller may be many things (to us; she is admittedly very few things in canon), but apparently those do not include immunity to The Beetle. Winning with their narrowest margin yet, they still easily took over half of all votes! Out of 47 votes, Theb won with 63.8% versus Glove Seller's 23.4%. Excluding em-dash votes, that makes 30 votes for the Beetle, and 11 for Glove Seller.
As per vast majority vote, there will now be a third-place match next round. Apologies to the three of you who didn't want it, feel free to seek out your nearest hypnotist bugperson and ask them to erase the memories of whatever the results may be from your mind.
Final Round Breakdown
It seems that we are all the Train fiends today. At least for this one particular train. Out of 128 votes, it took the win with a solid 56.3%, against The Beetle's 31.3%. Excluding em-dash votes, that adds up to 72 votes for Train, and 40 for the Beetle. It seems some things are just meant to be. Theb will simply have to fly away with the silver, for now...
While the finale results were accurate to canon, that's not the case for third place! Percy Woodville made one final effort and overtook Glove Seller's early lead. Out of 57 votes, he won with 47.4%, against Glove Seller's 31.6%. Excluding em-dash votes, that equals 27 votes for Percy and 18 for Glove Seller. Honestly, I think she'd be proud of him, and if my official stance means anything to you, then you should know that Glove Wins (aka Persally aka this ship) is beetle bracket canon in my heart.

The Babel that is 'AI'
The foreman of the Babel project likely shared Sam Altman’s guiding conviction that “all real, sustainable human progress comes from scientific and technological progress” because he was overseeing the use of technological advances giving rise (literally) to ancient towers known as ziggurats throughout the region. The Babel story of Genesis 11 is paradigmatic, representing humanity’s effort by wit, muscle, administration, and, yes, technology to build a mighty kingdom opposed to God that protects and puffs-up (“make a name,” as the story says) the kingdom of man.
The means of achieving these twin goals (protection and pride) are sharply contrasted in the story that follows Babel. When God calls Abram in Genesis 12, he promises the same things (a name and protection/blessing) to Abram, but in a very different manner. If Babel is a project built from the ground-up through human toil, God’s kingdom will be built from the top-down by grace. Babel typifies humanity’s rebellion against God, an effort to acquire dominance, glory, security, and a kingdom apart from the Creator.
Here’s the important point: the Scriptures indicate that demonic forces operate on a parallel yet interconnected track with human forces. These demonic ties don’t just play a supportive role to human attempts at self-glory, but are fundamental to the project of building an empire apart from God. Paul hints at this in his words to a persecuted church; he reminds them that they do not battle against “flesh and blood,” but against the “rulers,” “authorities,” and “cosmic powers” of darkness (Ephesians 6:12)....
Tumblr media
It is striking that when it comes to most of our AI fears, deception is the common denominator. In academic settings, concerns abound as to how the technology might be used by students to deceive their teachers into thinking AI generated work was student generated. Similar worries can be found in creative enterprises like music, visual arts, and writing. And let’s not forget that one of Sydney’s “dark fantasies” is to spread misinformation. Whether it’s misinformation, deepfakes, AI-generated work presented as one’s own, a faux romance with AI, deception is the common thread. The fingerprints of the “Father of Lies” seem to be all over the technology.
Seen from a spiritual frame, as Kingsnorth urges us to, it is not difficult to view the AI enterprise, with its Babel-like aspirations, as the latest attempt to usher a new iteration of the kingdom of man. Just like forces of darkness were behind the building of these ancient kingdoms, these same forces of darkness work behind the “wires,” “electric pulses,” “touchscreens” and “headsets” shaping AI, a case bolstered by the deceit and falsehood often tied to the technology.
This is not to say that there is not a way for the technology to move forward in a manner aligned with the City of God, but thus far Big Tech (collectively) seems quite content to operate from a position of self-interest and self-gain, values prized by both the City of Man and the cosmic powers of darkness.

Storer and Calo make each other better at this
S3 was imbalanced.
It was all Storer no Calo -or very little Calo-. She was not as involved in the writing as in S2.
She focused mostly on her EP duty.
Maybe it's because she’s involved in the pre-prod of other Disney projects right now, which started right after award season 2023.
So she had a lot on her plate, she had to prioritize, and writing + producing was too time-consuming so she picked EP. Plus EP is better paid than writing. Let’s be real. She chose wisely, I guess…
But it wasn’t just her that deserted the WR. I’m 100% sure the writers’ team changed from S2.
And you can tell the lack of Caloness. It’s all Storer’s sadism. No balance.
You can call it softness + intensity, or two fires with different levels of ignition, as Ayo said about her character and Jeremy’s. The point is that Calo balanced Storer out.
Without her he’s a 3 y.o. with too many fucking crayons, Uncle Jimmy would say.
She brought in the romantic element.
Storer, the intensity and the chaos.
She was the red string that connected Sydcarmy.
Storer and Calo S&C, btw are like Syd and Carmy.
They make each other better at this.
When they are disconnected, so are Carmy and Syd and they are not as good apart as they are when they are together.
I checked and most eps lack the WRITTEN by xxxx or SCREENPLAY by xxxx credit. Most of them just mentioned the Director and EP or one or the other, but we have no idea who was really responsible for that script, which is shady and kinda backs up my idea that the WR is 100% different now, they let in a bunch of writers that were not there before and have 0 knowledge of the mythology of the show and the characters. No idea about the vibe and the subtext that were there in S1 and 2. So they watched the show a couple of times and started writing for these characters from scratch. AND YOU CAN TELL! The characters didn’t sound like themselves in some scenes, they sounded OOC, especially my man, Carmy! And even Syd sometimes. IT WAS THE NEW WRITERS ON THE BLOCK’S FAULT! I’M TELLING YOU! They shoulda made NO CHANGES, the same WR they had in S2 shoulda have remained untouched. Identical. They fucked up big time, changing that and then the Editors fully fucked it, bc they coulda soften the blow, but didn’t. All of this was signed off by Storer and Calo. Storer is not the same Storer without her. And Calo was otherwise engaged.
I expected better, I expected the winning team to remain the same but they changed it and Disney is probably to blame for that. It was a self-boycot, sure. But not Storer’s. It was ultimately Disney’s because the network saw a Golden Team and decided to make them multitask and diversify, and they got greedy. They wanted them to make a lot of BEARS for them. And they couldn’t. Then again, those were nothing but my own expectations.
Now, if I detach myself from those and analyze this season objectively, like I have on some previous occasions, if I remove my own expectations from the equation, I can easily identify amazing stuff such as the constant battle between man and beast that Storer wants to portray. I mentioned time and time again how Carmy is 100% not based on a chef friend of his, as he said in several interviews, no way. Carmy is Storer and Storer is Carmy and that’s the best guarantee that we, truthers have, of Carmy having a happy ending. I’m sure that happiness will definitely include Sydney. So, summing up, we’re cool. Let’s just be patient and don’t let this sadist fuck with our patience. In the meantime let’s focus on the great things this season had.
Let’s choose to let it go and be positive, as Cousin would say.
This show constantly inspires me to take a good hard look at art as a whole and my own relationship with it. I mean, art in any form. I’m not an artist per se, but I certainly am an avid art consumer and fully believe that life would have no meaning without it. So, having said that Storer’s art is always inviting me to broaden my perspective because whether I like it or not how he does it, he usually pushes the boundaries of writing, storytelling, and cinematography, and also tells a story through music in a very personal way, etc, One of the things I loved the most this season was the cinematography and noticing he found inspo in paintings, painters, etc. I mentioned this season was Carmy’s blue period, like Picasso’s, etc… Storer does that, and last but not least, he put front and center a topic that is often not well depicted on TV, which is MENTAL HEALTH and indirectly, COMPASSION, EMPATHY, LOVE but from a non-romantic perspective. From a human perspective. Not platonic, bigger than that, human. S3 was also about SOLIDARITY if you think about it. And that, in and of itself, is something beautiful.
So, thank you, Storer.

Rewatching Classic Doctor Who, some episodes I haven't seen in years, some of the animated reconstructions I haven't seen at all.
The Daleks AKA The Mutants AKA The Survivors AKA Beyond the Sun AKA The Dead Planet AKA Serial B
Now we're cooking. Famously produced against Sydney Newman and Donald Wilson's mandate against "bug-eyed monsters", the show really hits it's stride here. A classic sci-fi plot, a deserted planet, two warring 'races' - one heroic, generically attractive, vaguely pacifistic, and (outwardly) human, the other evil, deformed, mutant mecha pilots - and the main cast, interloping as will become the standard.
(Yes, the Daleks are mecha, you heard me)
The First Doctor (in prime spoiled brat teenager mode) sabotages the TARDIS to have an excuse to explore a mysterious city, finds the Daleks, escapes from the Daleks, helps convince pacifists to start a war to get the missing TARDIS part back, and genocides the Daleks for the first time (but never the last time). He says that maybe he'll return to Skaro at some point to see the descendants of the Thals, not knowing that he absolutely will keep returning to Skaro forever and ever and ever because the fans (and the Terry Nation Estate) demand it.
The Daleks are really good here, in their first appearance, not yet flattened out to caricatures of themselves. They plot and plan - prisoners of their own city, they get high on anti-radiation drugs and freak out, they talk about extermination but rarely do it. Their famous battle cry is still a few serials away, after all. Their openly xenophobic nature is alluded to, but not their dominating feature yet. Given later depictions of the Daleks, it is quite humorous to see folks engaging them in melee, wrestling them to the ground, blinding them with mud. You won't see a Dalek battle this good until Ace and her baseball bat.
Visually, the Daleks make a striking first impression, not appearing fully until the second episode. Coming seven years after Robby the Robot and two years before the Robot from Lost in Space, the Daleks are state of the art in prop/costuming design and it is easy to see why they became immediately iconic.... even if half the Dalek population are cardboard stand ups. The entire serial is pretty strong on the design/costuming/special effects front. Even if we get treated to the "run in place while we move the background behind you" trick again, the Dalek beam melting and blistering a wall panel, the whirlpool, and TARDIS dematerializing make up for it. They don't look like much by modern standards, but state of the art for the time (and the budget!).
Next stop, the edge. One I remember fondly, let's see how it holds up.

What happens when a French gardener Claude and a socialite divorced Estella became lovers? This is how Elizabeth came to the world. She was born in Australia, Sydney. Her grandparents by her mother side, wasn't thrilled with the news. But they tried to make it, their romance and their little family. At the age of 5, Elizabeth and her parents moved to U.S. seeking for the 'American dream'.
Arriving in the States, they tried to adapt to the new life, but Estella wasn't very happy. She misses her old life in Australia where she had everything and there had to battle to get her things. Eventually, the fights became constant, and Claude tried everything to fix it, although he didn't have the budget to give what his wife wanted.
When Elizabeth was 6 years old, her mother said she was going on a trip and would back. And she never back. She abandoned her, and her father. A few years later he signed the divorce paper she requested.
Years and years later, she met a guy named Jack, and the pair quickly became infatuated and rushed to a wedding (both needed money). He was a mechanic, and she wished to become an interior designer one day.
A tragedy of destiny came when her husband was brutally murdered, a few days before the twins were born. The killer mistook him with somebody else. He wasn't the target. After the death of her husband, it was hard to raise her children and she felt bad for all the effort her father was making for her, and his grandchildren. She did a lot of odd jobs to help her children and her father as well, this is when she met someone, who suggested her work in a club that was looking for new strippers and paid well.
She went to get information and decided to give it a shot. It was the fastest way to get money and paid well. At home, people are unaware of what she does for work, and she would rather things be kept this way. Her father helps her with the twins.

Note
I was just watching the Ember McClain character spotlight for Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, and I came to a bit of a realization. Danny Phantom and Hazbin Hotel are basically following a similar pattern for me.
Both won me over immediately with their art style and afterlife concepts. Both had potential that was hinted at early on, that I would have loved to see explored, that were squandered later (Danny Phantom going from "ghosts are spirits of the dead" in Season 1 to "ghosts are just monsters" in Season 3, Hazbin seeming more episodic and "wacky hijinks" than the serialized character study the pilot implied).
Both had their pitch bibles revealed later that seemed like exactly the kind of thing that I would have loved to pieces (DP having te original plan of Danny's parents being interested in ghosts to learn from the dead, Hazbin having character growth with an early Extermination as a looming threat), but the full show steered away from utilizing those concepts (yes Hazbin isn't out yet, but the confirmed episode titles we know are completely different from the ones in the pitch bible so we can assume those were all scrapped, and Helluva's writing with Adam being involved worries me for Hazbin since Adam wrote for that too). Both shows are created by people who did some shady things, look down on others who aren't at their level, and can't take criticism.
And that really, really hurts.
I will give Butch Hartman this though— at the very least, his character designs didn't all blend in with the background. True, a lot of ghost battles in the show took place on Earth, but a fair few took place in the Ghost Zone, which is entirely green with a bit of purple here and there. And while quite a few of those Purgatory-bound ghosts have green on them, the only characters that are nearly entirely green are the Ectopuses, who are background threats.
In the main ghosts we see, there's tons of variety. Technus has green skin but his white hair and gray coat balance it out. Lunch Lady and Desiree are similar. Skulker has has green hair but his skin and armor are blue (his tiny blob form is green but that's only seen in his first appearance). Heck, a good number of ghosts (Ember, Sydney, Ghostwriter, Walker, Spectra) don't have any green on them at all except for their eyes (which reminds me of a previous anon saying the "different colors = different rings" would work better in Helluva if eye color alone was an indicator of which ring they were from). The Box Ghost doesn't even have a speck of green on him anywhere.
Whereas with Hazbin, every single main character has red prominently in their design.
At this point when it comes to animated shows involving the afterlife, I'm taking a "fine, I'll do it myself" approach and pitching my own work, because every afterlife cartoon I've encountered (can't say afterlife show because The Good Place exists and is great) seems to be disappointing me in the "squandered potential when it comes to the afterlife, exploring morality, and existential themes" department.
I'll admit that half of this is lost on me because I never watched Danny Phantom, but I definitely get what you're saying. It's hard to watch something you loved fly close to the mark, miss, and crash into flames.
It's true. Sometimes you've just got to do it yourself.

Hybrid Class Review: Brawler part 3
Tumblr media
(art by Sydney Oswald on Artstation)
Archetypes
Like all hybrid classes, brawlers didn’t get a super big list of archetypes, but there are plenty of fun options.
Some archetypes revolve around having an unusual weapon choice, such as the Shield Champion being all Captain America with a shield, while the Hinyashi specializes in turning farming implements and other improvised weapons and turning them into deadly weapons.
Others specialize in altering the body to perfect their combat style, such as the Constructed Pugilists, who turn armored prosthesis into cybernetic weaponry, or the Mutagenic Mauler, that enhance their might with alchemical mixtures. Meanwhile, Feral Shifters draw upon latent shifter or druidic power to gain beastial aspects in combat, while the Venomfist has altered themselves to conduct poison through their strikes.
The vast majority of brawler archetypes, however, focus on a particular fighting style. For example, the Strong-Side Boxer is based on the dambe fighting style of Nigeria. Meanwhile, Battle Dancers blend flowing movements with their martial arts, while Living Avalanches specialize in running over foes with unstoppable crushing force. Snakebite Strikers are all about flexibility and striking with deadly blows, while Steel Breakers use precision and unrelenting force to shatter the weaponry of their foes. Others like the Winding Path Renegades sought discipline but decided it wasn’t for them, taking their skills with them.
A few others don’t really fit into other categories. Such as Turfers specializing in turning the terrain to their advantage in a mundane way while Verdant Grapplers do the same but in a more supernatural way. Meanwhile others like Bouncer and Exemplar are more defined by the roles in society they perform, the former keeping order in places of business while the latter inspire troops with their physical might. Others are defined by their favored foe, such as Ulfen Beast-Wrestlers, and the less honorable Stranglers.
It's a relatively small batch, but being both a hybrid class and one all about flexibility on top of that, it’s not surprising the list is so short. However, it’s more than sufficient to give players a nice selection when looking at this class.
That does it for today, but this week isn’t over yet! Tune in tomorrow for more!
