yes. yes yes yes. "It should canonically mean something." Especially if it's someone who has every reason to want to fall in love (never been brokenhearted, has healthily married parents, ect), but they're still disinterested. Even if something changes and they do experience attraction. Even if all it means is that the character is acearo-spec, they're still on the spectrum.

A character saying they will never fall in love is the aro equivalent of someone saying they are not attracted to the opposite gender. It should canonically mean something, the only reason it doesn’t is because so often such sentiments are only expressed for characters to “grow out of”

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS FROM WEDNESDAY

Justification: “Girl doesnt like romance, its one of the 1st characteristics we're shown, yet she ends up in a love triangle?? And she dislikes both of the guys, mind you, only cares about the mystery happening, yet??? She kisses one of them??? She definitely shouldve been aro, it wouldve saved not only her character, but the whole series.”

I’m watching Wednesday (yes I know I’m late to the party shut up) and I just have one question - why the fuck are we doing this god awful love triangle bullshit???

I mean I strongly dislike love triangles at the best of times because they’re never good and never poly, but I mean come on. Like we have:

Guy A, who is super weirdly paternalistic towards Wednesday and gets really mad when she doesn’t listen to him telling her to stay away from someone (because why would she?? she literally doesn’t know you dude???) and is also overly jealous for no god damn reason (again YOU TWO DO NOT KNOW EACH OTHER????)

Guy B, who I actually liked as a character and as a friend for Wednesday until out of the blue he was mad that she was going to a dance with someone else because he “thought they liked each other” and “felt like she was giving him all these signals” which I did not see at all so I have no idea where he got that from???

Then there’s Enid who I know people ship Wednesday with, but who I still think would be better off as friends, though I have to admit they do actually have some modicum of chemistry, unlike the above mentioned guys who she has NO chemistry with whatsoever.

I mean why can’t she just be aro? Like the show starts off with Wednesday insisting she will not be anything like her mother, and I know that’s partially just to establish their conflict and Wednesday wanting to be her own person instead of a carbon copy of her parents, she specifically says she does not want to be part of a whirlwind romance or to become a housewife or mother. Like when are we ever going to let girls just not be interested in those things? When is a girl’s declaration of desire for something different in her life ever going to be taken seriously instead of a base point for her to “learn” and “grow” and accept that actually she does want those things because of course she does, every woman does.

Maybe it’s not that deep but god damn I’m so sick of this trope. Just let her be uninterested in romance instead of forcing her to conform.

I only watched a few seasons before giving up, but I swear the vibes are there. He's aroace and unbothered.

Putting him at two would send him spiraling into a rage. But also he just is. I get no real sexual vibe. Just unchecked aggression.

1. Katniss Everdeen

I'm sorry, but the first-person POV in the books is so telling. I firmly believe she was content to be in a relationship, but she had no real drive for sex or romance. But she gave Peeta what she didn't mind to give. And he took what she was willing to give.

Especially Christina Ricci's Wednesday, aka the best Wednesday.

Even when that boy had a crush on her it didn't seem like she felt the same way. Maybe a little curiosity.

Honestly that's why The Addams Family Musical feels so off to me. Her main storyline is being in love with this guy and wanting to marry him. Not only that but she is EMBARRASSED about how weird her family is! Excuse me?!?! I'm sorry but that is not Wednesday that is Tuesday.
