Being in Hammerhead never used to be such an uneasy thing for Primam. Though when the person who has her affections pines for one who, like he to her, does not seem to return them, it hurts to bear witness to. Perhaps a bit too much.

Notes: Written a little while ago as a response to my friend asking how a Primam and Cindy conversation would go regarding the demisexual/demiromantic pining from one, to the lack of attraction of the other asexual/aromantic.

Hammerhead was a quiet place at night. A boon considering its location. It was too far from any town or city to have the added benefit of the occasional Hunter. Thankfully the lights did well to stave off any threat of daemon attack. Primam was grateful she could spend the night in relative comfort after being on the road for far longer than had been comfortable for anyone.

Though…it was as much comfort as she could afford. Being back in Hammerhead made Primam just a little uneasy. Somewhat miffed, if all truths could be bared and on display.

But they could not.

"Heya, hun!" came the Leiden belle accent of Cindy. A voice that stuck much like honey;  just as sweet, too. "Pawpaw told me that y'all should be outta here in the mornin'. That car'a yours is purrin' somethin' sweet. Just a few adjustments, and she'll be right as rain."

"Oh...um..." Primam started. She lifted a hand, soon pointing her thumb back at Takka's Pit Stop. "I'll...pass the information to my brother. He's a bit more knowledgeable about the workings than me and probably has better questions than I do that he could shoot your way come morning."

Primam felt a lump forming in her throat. She had been at the table outside the RV to get away from the boys for the time being. Because being in Hammerhead and seeing the clear rebuffed affection Prompto had for Cindy made her...

"Let him down easy..." Primam’s words spilled forth before she realized what she had said. But now that they were out there, she curled her fingers into a fist on the table. She cursed herself for having a mouth that spoke before she had the mental fortitude to prevent herself.

"Let who down easy?" Cindy asked, a brow quirked with bemusement.

Shit...

The lump grew larger, threatening to choke her.

"P...Prompto..." Primam quietly replied. This sense of shame clawed at her...but why? "He...He's too good to be hurt like--" I have. "To be hurt by not having his feelings returned..."

Cindy's posture changed, her expression unreadable as she brought a hand to her chin. She contemplated Primam’s words before looking toward the diner. "Hun, I'll be honest... I never quite realized he liked me."

Cindy then walked forward -- skipped, really -- and knelt down to be eye level with Prim as she sat there. Placing a friendly hand on her knee, Cindy offered a reassuring smile. "But...I think you should tell 'im how ya feel. I don't reckon you'd go outta your way to ask me somethin' like that if ya didn't feel strongly for 'im."

Primam could feel her lips involuntarily curling and pursing into a tight line on her face as she furrowed her brow slightly. It felt��almost terrible to have her own feelings being seen like that. Primam had done her best all this time to keep them to herself. Even just one person knowing would have felt like an invasion of privacy. Not to mention she hated the idea of anyone even remotely thinking of telling Prompto at all.

“He’s…” Primam averted her gaze. “We’ve been friends for a long time. He’s…”

There were a number of little moments that stood out to Primam as she allowed her words to linger. How Prompto was the first person to ever compliment her hair. How he invited her out to the butterfly garden after exams to cheer her up and hopefully remove the stress she had piling on. How he offered to walk her home after she had been working extremely late one evening because he said he did not want her to be alone…

“He’s just the most considerate friend one could ask for,” Primam quietly finished. “He deserves everything nice this star has to offer. I don’t want to see him hurt because that’s the last thing he deserves.”

“... Sugar, I don’t see why it seems you're thinkin’ that can’t be you.” Cindy rose back up to her feet, hands going to her hips. “But maybe ya don’t actually have feelin’s for ‘im. Still, it seems like you value ‘im more than words can express.”

Cindy looked back into the diner, and through the lit up windows, she saw Prompto talking with Tandem and Ros. They were laughing over something, which had been a decent sight to see. Everything otherwise had been so somber since the nobles had come back without the king with them.

“He hasn’t said nor expressed anythin’ to me, though, hun…” Cindy finally said. “If he tries to confess or anythin’, I really ain’t all that interested. I got plenty more to worry about than enterin’ into any committed relationship. But I’ll keep what you said in mind and let ‘im down easy.”

For a moment, Primam looked confused. What did Cindy mean that Prompto had not expressed nor said anything to her? Every time Primam saw Prompto, it was clear as daylight how he pined for her and wanted so badly to tell her how he felt. Hearing Cindy say that…Primam wondered if it was the same with her and Prompto.

“I can tell ya got a lot on your mind, hun. I’ll leave you to it,” Cindy’s voice cut through the silence, as did the crunch of gravel underneath her boots as she turned to walk back to hers and Cid’s garage. She paused for a moment, looking over her shoulder, “Try not to dwell too hard on whatever’s eatin’ away at ya and get yourself a good night’s rest, ya hear?”

“Y-Yeah… I’ll…I’ll try…” Primam replied, her voice still small.

And Abigail likes Penny and Maru cause at first it was help with homework (Penny is such an easy mark to cheat off of, and Maru was Sebastian's half sister so also easy access) and then all 3 of them have an identity crisis of "oh no, I like 2 people, and they're BOTH GIRLS" but then they all meet up and do that awkward confession where one person was going to but the others started as well and its really silly except Abigail was just louder so as Penny and Maru were like "no you can go first" girl was just like "Y'ALL HOT A.F."

Cindy afton backstory!

Cindy was born 1971 on august 18, she was the second oldest child to the afton family. In 1983 (when Cindy was 12) her little brother died due to a prank done by Michael afton and his friends, soon after this their father made all three of their lives a living hell by making their house a literary prison. Due to this, Cindy was really quiet and focused on herself and soon got a job as a singer in 1985 (when she was 14). She learned 5 months after she got the job that Elizabeth ran away and she was missing,Cindy was heartbroken since her and Elizabeth had an unbroken bond but she still focused on her music career. However in 1987, William said that he knew where Elizabeth was and all Cindy had to do was go to the underground place where the sister location animatronics. Cindy was so happy that she went to the place in a heartbeat. as she went into the underground place she noticed a certain animatronic that caught her eye. Their name was Funtime foxy, Cindy liked how androgynous Funtime foxy looked so she went to get a closer look at them. As she went closer she decided to put her head into Funtime foxy because she was curious, but then she noticed that Funtime foxy head was closing. Sadly Cindy died that night and William afton put her body into Funtime foxy.

Plot:

In this version of Ace Attorney, I decided a little crossover with some characters of my own and other fandoms (idk why 😅), so let me introduce my own Ace Attorney cast: 

Marie Mendoza (Friend’s OC) (Role: Phoenix Wright)

- Marie may be your typical rookie defense attorney but don't be fool, she has highest honors in law school and she is famous for her 'Eagle Eye' when it comes to solve cases like solving pieces of a puzzle with just the amount of effort, time and memory. She is a bit stoic, caring and doesn't give up on a case easily, even if the prosecution gets her under the collar. She took in her old predecessor’s, Whitney ‘Winter’ Schnee (RWBY) (Role: Mia Fey), law office after she was murdered by the hands of David Xanatos (Disney Gargoyles) (Role: Redd White), CEO of Xanatos Enterprises and took in her sister, Weiss Schnee (RWBY) (Role: Maya Fey) as her assistant, she also change Winter’s law office name to Mendoza & Co. Law Offices. She is also a fan of Pretty Princess & Princes Precure and her favorite character is Cure Pearl.  

Weiss Schnee (RWBY) (Role: Maya Fay) 

- Weiss is Winter’s sister and Marie’s assistant. But unlike Maya, she is serious like Marie and can get a little flustered when meeting new people. She was framed for ‘murdering’ her own sister but Marie knew Weiss didn’t kill Winter and knew it was Xanatos instead. Weiss is also a psychic who can communicate with the dead, she summoned Winter during the trial to help Marie in anyway possible. 

Katherine ‘Kate’ Morgan D. Jones (My OC) (Role: Detective Dick Gumshoe) 

- Kate is Marie’s best friend from high school and a detective, she is loyal, good-hearted, funny, hot-tempered and can be serious sometimes when it comes to solve cases in New York (Note: Aro Attorney takes place in New York City in the year 2017). She is also in an open relationship with Elmo Sputterspark (Megavolt) (DWD), meaning they can date other people outside of their relationship, even if other people think it’s absurd but it’s ok with the both of them as well as others. She is also a fan of Pretty Princess & Princes Precure, her favorite character is Cure Diamond and an avid trading card collector.

Quackerjack (DWD) (Real Name [in this AU]: Jack Maybelline) (Role: Larry Butz) 

- Jack is Marie’s second best friend/boyfriend in high school and unlike Larry, he is a local toymaker and owns a little shop in Fifth Avenue. He got frame for killing his roommate, Gary Schwartz (Role: Cindy Stone) but thanks to the help of his girlfriend Marie, she revealed the murder to be none other than Jack’s landlord, Ponce De Leon (Real Name: Josef Ponce De Leon [in this AU]) (DT17) (Role: Frank Sahwit), who reveals to be a petty thief, using his role as landlord to steal his tenants’ valuables and is also the one who framed Jack for the murder of his roommate. Jack is funny, mischievous and can be romantic towards Marie, he often calls Marie his ‘Cinderella’ sometimes or he often calls her other nickname ‘Mari’. He’s also a big fan of Pretty Princess & Princes Precure, his favorite character is Cure Sword and a collector/expert of action figures and old toys. He would often volunteer or help out a person of interest to do a job in order to earn extra money. 

Waluigi (Real Name: Waluigi Pompeii [in this AU]) (Super Mario) (Role: Miles Edgeworth)

- Waluigi is Marie's old classmate/rival in highschool and he's kinda of like Edgeworth but he's more egotistical and proud of himself. He's a well known prosecutor because he's uncle used to be a defense attorney after he died by the hands of his own clientele (or is it?). He got framed also by killing another man, last night on a boat before Christmas, and Marie had to take his case because she didn't had a choice, also she gets to meet Waluigi's mentor and adopted uncle, Jafar Adabi (Disney's Aladdin) (Role: Manfred von Karma), who thinks Waluigi was incompetent when he "killed" that man last night but Marie knows that isn't true, after Waluigi was found ‘Not Guilty’, he then asked the court to resolved the case of the death of his uncle, fortunately, Marie was able to reveal the killer, which was Jafar himself. Waluigi has a brother, Wario Pompeii, who owns his own company, but he rarely sees Wario often. He is Kate’s crush/substitute date whenever Kate’s boyfriend either out of town or other, he is also a big fan of Pretty Princess & Princes Precure, his favorite character is Cure Rose and a ladies man as well. He was defeated by Marie during their first encounter but he soon learned his lesson afterwards and disappeared without a trace.

Mozenrath (Real Name: Mozenrath Calar Adabii [in this AU]) (Disney Aladdin TV Series) (Role: Franziska von Karma) 

- Mozenrath is Waluigi’s adopted cousin, nephew of the late Jafar Adabi and prosecutor from Saudi Arabia. After learning about his uncle’s loss to defense attorney Marie Mendoza and his subsequent conviction for the murder of Waluigi’s uncle, Giovanni Pompeii. He also learn about Waluigi’s losses to the female attorney and his sudden disappearance, he moved to New York and act as active prosecutor for the case of Samantha Simpsons (Totally Spies), who is a psychic cousin of Weiss, blamed for the murder of Dr. Jasper Dickens (Role: Turner Grey) during a spirit channeling at Kurain Village, Samantha’s ancestral hometown. He would bring his cane whip to court and whipped anyone who he felt was out of line, including the presiding judge, Toadsworth (Real Name: Thomas Worth [in this AU]), himself. During Sam’s trial, Monzenrath began the trial by mocking Marie that she would change her plea from "not guilty" to "justified self-defense" in ten minutes, but Marie persisted with the plea of "not guilty" with only a straight face. Eventually, when he was revealed to have manipulated the witness testimony, Marie quickly condemned her for being no different from his ruthless uncle. Monzenrath (who Marie and Waluigi would often call him ‘Monty’ for short) proved to be quite a formidable opponent for Marie, even having researched the Kurain Channeling Technique to strengthen his case. He was even willing to break established evidence law so as to show an incriminating picture that strengthened his case to the judge. Marie, sensing his grudge towards her, told him that winning would not bring his uncle back. Despite all the tactics that he utilized, he could not best Mendoza and experienced his first defeat. By the time of their next courtroom battle, Monzenrath had concluded that his previous loss had been a fluke and "did not count". He made his intentions known to Marie, blaming her for Waluigi's disappearance. He knew that Detective Kate Jones was trying to help Marie in her investigations, so he planted a tracking device on her to prevent her from doing so. He found Marie talking to and taking evidence from a witness, Clay (Role: Acro), and took said evidence for himself. Kate later suggested a surprise search of Clay's room, which Monzenrath conducted; this ended up costing him the case, as Clay, who turned out to be the real killer, had been forced to hide his murder weapon underneath his wheelchair to avoid discovery during the raid, and had thus taken it with him to court. Marie figured this out, leading to another loss for Mozenrath Calar Adabii. Monzenrath was now even more determined to defeat Marie their next trial together. A famous actor, Blaine Howards (Role: Juan Corrida), had been murdered, and another actor, Keith Cluster (Role: Matt Engarde), had been accused. During their investigations, however, Waluigi returned to the Criminal Affairs Department to discover Marie and Monzenrath arguing about whether the latter prosecuted only to win. His appearance angered them both, with Monzenrath calling him a coward. Monzenrath later spoke to a witness, Twilight Saprkle (Real Name: Twila Spencer [in this AU]) (MLP) (Role: Adrian Andrews), telling her not to testify about her involvement in tampering with the crime scene. However, before the trial, Monzenrath was shot in the shoulder and taken to the Hotti Clinic, while Waluigi took his place as prosecutor. In addition, telling Twila to refuse to testify worked against the prosecution, as Marie tried to name her as the real killer. Waluigi emotionally broke Twila in order to force her to talk, which resulted in new information which delayed the verdict until the next day. At the Hotti Clinic, Marie visited him with a bouquet of tulips. However, when he asked what Marie was doing with the bouquet, she got flustered. Monzenrath later recovered and, upon hearing that Kate had gotten into a car crash trying to deliver crucial evidence, took it upon himself to deliver said evidence to court instead. Although the evidence ended up clinching the guilty verdict, after the trial, he was shocked to find that Marie was happy, despite experiencing his first loss in court. Unknown to Monzenrath, his shooter had kidnapped Weiss and had been blackmailing Marie into getting an acquittal for Cluster, who he knew was guilty of the crime. The evidence had turned the shooter against Cluster, thereby ending Weiss' imprisonment.  Meanwhile, Waluigi explained that he had disappeared in order to find out what being a prosecutor truly meant, and that his answer was simply to find the truth. Furious that Waluigi was talking about something bigger than winning in court, and overwhelmed by his own losses, Monzenrath stormed out of the courtroom, leaving his cane whip behind. Waluigi followed him to the airport and returned the whip. He told him that he was still a prosecutor, even if he wasn't a genius like her father, and that he himself would understand someday the meaning of being a lawyer. However, if he quit prosecuting, he would keep going forward and wouldn't wait for him. Monzenrath then began to cry, and vowed to become a better prosecutor and to face Marie in court again when he came back. He left the country with that vow in mind, taking a piece of evidence from the case with him: a Nelly le Crime (Role: Shelly de Killer) calling card over which Weiss had drawn an image of Marie. He said that he would give it to the defense attorney the next time they met, but has made no mention of it since. 

Pinocchio Geppetto Tremaine (Disney Pinocchio) (Role: Pearl Fey) 

- Pinocchio is a young boy who is a key witness of Samantha's case and Weiss’ cousin, he was adopted by Sam’s second aunt, Lady Tremaine (after his father died) (Real Name: Amelia Tremaine [in this AU]) (Disney Cinderella) (Role: Morgan Fey), who has tried twice to put Pinocchio in the Kurain Master's seat, first by attempting to frame Samantha for murder and then by conspiring with Lila Rossi (Miraculous Ladybug) (Role: Iris Hawthorne), her stepdaughter, to kill her. Pinocchio never knew about his step aunt’s history nor intentions but Tremaine had always been bitter that she had been reduced to a branch family. Claudia Hawk (Role: Mimi Miney) met Tremaine and they came up with a plan to kill Jasper Dickens and to frame Sam for the murder. For Amelia, this was in order for Pinocchio to take Sam’s place as the Master. Hawk  hid in a box in Tremaine Manor's Channeling Chamber and waited for Dickens, who had requested that Sam channel a spirit. The room was locked with only Sam, Dickens and Hawk inside, Hawk then drugged Sam and put her inside the box. She then got into spirit acolyte clothes and stabbed Dickens. However, Dickens survived the attempt and tried to shoot Hawk but she took the gun from him and shot him at point-blank range. Two people, a friend of Weiss, Marie Mendoza and a photographer named Photo Finish (Real Name: Pamela Finley [in this AU]) (MLP) (Role: Lotta Hart), heard the gunshot and burst into the room. Hawk pretended to be Sam channeling the spirit while Tremaine frantically told the pair to go outside to call the police. Tremaine and Hawk then cleaned up the crime scene and burned Sam's acolyte clothes. Eventually, Tremaine put herself forward as a witness to the crime, and testified against Sam in court. Tremaine claimed that she was performing the "Spirit Severing Technique" to remove Claudia Hawk’s spirit from Sam when she was knocked out by the possessed girl, who then escaped. This set up the prosecutor, Mozenrath Calar Adabii, to call in Hawk to explain where the possessed "Sam" went after this. Hawk (in the guise of her dead sister, Sasha Hawk (Role: Ini Miney)) was then called as a witness to the murder and proceeded to lie about her channeled sister coming to see her. Unfortunately for both Hawk and Tremaine, Marie revealed her true identity along with the fact that she was the actual murderer. Tremaine's role in the plot was also revealed and she was incarcerated and held in Solitary Cell 14. She swore that she would yet place Pinocchio in the Master's seat. As for Pinocchio, he first met Marie Mendoza when she first visited the village bringing Jasper Dickens to Sam to channel a spirit. He was playing with his ball with Sam, but he quickly ran away when Marie tried to speak with him. While the channeling was taking place, Pinocchio played with his ball in the Winding Way. However, he accidentally hit the Sacred Urn containing the spirit of Ami Kurain and broke it. He tried to glue it back together, but he mixed up the letters to spell "I AM" instead of "AMI". He was afraid that he would be banished for breaking a sacred treasure of the village, so he kept his little crime a secret.  Pinocchio met Marie again after Dickens was murdered, Marie found him in the Winding Way and immediately spotted that she was holding the unique key for the Channeling Chamber, which he had found in the incinerator, but he still avoided her. However, after showing Pinocchio Sam's magatama, he burst into tears, upset about Sam being accused of Dicken's murder. He then realized that she was the "Ms. Mari" that Sam often mentioned and because of this, Pinocchio assumed that Marie and Sam were in a friendship (or as Pinocchio put it "Mystic Sam's best friend", even though has only met Sam for the first time). He immediately became friendly towards Marie, eager to help her however he could. Pinocchio gave Marie the key in his possession and charged the magatama with spiritual energy. Pinocchio followed around in Marie's investigation of Tremaine Manor, meeting Kate for the first time, and acted as a tutor for Marie in the use of the magatama and the breaking of Psyche-Locks when they encountered "Sasha Hawk". However, when Marie left to visit Sam in the detention center, Pinocchio stayed behind, as she had never left the village before. He asked Marie to say "hi" for him, then ran off again. Pinocchio later showed up in the defendant lobby before Sam's trial, worried about his cousin. He had sneaked out of the village, using a map to find his way. Marie was shocked that Pinocchio had walked all the way to the courthouse, since it was a two hour train journey. Pinocchio corrected her as he had not walked, but ran, not knowing anything about a "tray-in".  When Marie began to struggle in court, Pinocchio channeled his older cousin Whitney to help her out. Although it was a desperate battle with prosecutor Mozenrath Calar Adabii, Marie was able to prove that Sam must have left the crime scene before her arrest due to the key that Pinocchio had given her. This ended the trial for the day to allow more evidence to be gathered. Back in the lobby, Sam and Weiss (who had just arrived after the trial because of errands) was very impressed that Pinocchio could summon Whitney. Sam asked Marie to take Pinocchio back home, this time on the train. Upon their return to Kurain Village, Pinocchio thanked Marie for escorting her home. The young spirit medium was furious at the way Monzerath had "bullied" Mystic Sam and was determined to give him a piece of his mind the next time they met. Marie and Pinocchio talked about the real murderer, with Pinocchio seeming sad for some reason. Upon further questioning, Pinocchio suddenly declared that he "didn't see anything" and when Marie asked him what he was doing at the time of the murder, he stammered that he "w-wasn't d-doing a-anything". Suddenly two Psyche-Locks appeared, but without enough evidence, Marie was forced to leave them for the moment.  Marie would eventually return, having figured out what had happened to the Sacred Urn. Marie agreed not to tell Pinocchio's aunt what happened. Not long after, Tremaine went with the police, having offered herself as a witness against Samantha. Although Pinocchio tried to stop the police from taking his aunt away, Tremaine told him that she was only going to be away for a short while. Pinocchio then asked to go with his aunt, but was told to stay and protect the manor. Despite this, he joined Marie and Sam in the defendant lobby the next day, telling them not to worry since his aunt was coming to show his "support". Marie, having figured out Tremaine's role in the murder, asked Pinocchio to channel Whitney before the trial, so he wouldn't have to see what his aunt was really going to do.  "Sasha Hawk" was arrested the next day for the murder of Jasper Dickens following Marie's defense of Sam, and because of Tremaine's role as an accomplice, she was sent to prison, effectively leaving Pinocchio alone. Tremaine had conspired with Hawk to kill Dickens and have Sam blamed for it, enabling Pinocchio to inherit the title of Master of Kurain. With no other known relatives, Marie and Sam essentially became Pinocchio's guardians, showing him the world outside of Kurain Village. Pinocchio started the collecting trading cards with Kate and watch his favorite show, Silver Samurai. 

Mr. L (Real Identity: Luigi D'Angelo) (Super Mario/Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door) (Role: Godot/Diego Armando) 

Mr. L aka Luigi D’Angelo is Waluigi’s first cousin and former defense attorney turned prosecutor as Mr. L. Mr. L was originally Luigi D’Angelo, a senior defense lawyer working at Sicilian Law Offices. He was shy towards women and refer to them as super women, and often used metaphors revolving around such names. Luigi was Whitney Schnee’s aide when she took on her first case, giving her advice as she went through and urging her to continue on the attack. Near the end of the trial, their client, Eduardo Dorrance (Bane) (DC Batman), died on the stand as a result of drinking poison given to him by the real killer, Heather Duke (Heather the Musical) (Role: Dahlia Hawthorne). Angered by the outcome, Luigi crushed his mug of coffee in his hand, which subsequently began bleeding. Soon afterward, the two lawyers started dating, with their boss, Luigi’s brother Mario, referring to them as such. On August 27, 2013, Luigi sat with Duke to question her. Fearing that the lawyer was on to her, Duke slipped a special poison into his cup of coffee. As a result of drinking the poisoned cup, Luigi fell into a coma. The poison damaged his central nervous system and caused extreme damage to his eyes (that’s why his wearing a mask). Five years later, Luigi miraculously woke up to the smell of coffee. Upon awakening, however, he learned that Whitney Schnee had been murdered two years prior by David Xanatos, CEO of the blackmailing company, Xanatos Enterprises. Furthermore, Heather Duke had already been brought to justice. Luigi blamed Schnee's understudy, Marie Mendoza, for her death, and resolved to protect her sister Weiss. He became a prosecutor to test Mendoza's worthiness to succeed her, as well as to gain privileges to spy on Amelia Tremaine, whom he knew had tried to frame Weiss’ cousin, Samantha, for murder before and perhaps would attempt to kill or otherwise harm her again. He began wearing a mask over his eyes that enabled him to see, although it was limited in that he could not see red on a white background. Considering his old self to have "died," he took on the new name "Mr. L". Mr. L made his “debut” (as Marie like to call it) as a prosecutor in the Phantom Thief: Joker  trials. Sly, sarcastic, and intolerant, he began to put pressure on Marie. Despite being his first time prosecuting, Mr. L was levelheaded and cool, displaying unnatural finesse with the law, prompting Mendoza to ask Detective Jones about his background. When the defendant, Ren Akira (Joker) (Persona 5) (Role: Ron DeLite), was declared not guilty of theft, Mr. L prosecuted the subsequent murder case to challenge Mendoza again. Nonetheless, Marie managed to prove a private detective named Goro Akechi (Crow) (Persona 5) (Role: Luke Atmey) had created an alibi of larceny to prevent murder charges against himself. Near the end of the murder trial, Mr. L saw Weiss channel Whitney so that she could help Marie. Mr. L challenged Mendoza again in another trial. He could not see the ketchup stains on the defendant's white apron, hinting at his vision problems. He also demonstrated his remarkable ability to keep his cool even when faced with fearsome characters like Dante Smith (Role: Furio Tigre). Nonetheless, Marie bested him again, and Dante let out a final roar, causing a short blackout. During the blackout, everybody noticed that Mr. L's mask glowed in the dark (?). One day, he overheard Tremaine telling her nephew Pinocchio about a letter she had hidden, which would give her instructions for killing Weiss. Oblivious to the letter's purpose and unable to understand some of the words, Pinocchio attempted to carry through with the plan, telling Marie and Weiss about Hazakura Temple. Mr. L contacted Lila, a nun at the temple, and Willow Schnee, Weiss's mother, telling them about the plan and asking for their assistance. Willow had by then taken on the new identity of children's book author Margret Daxter, as she had left her hometown after being humiliated during the DL-6 Incident eight years prior. Willow attempted to keep Pinocchio from carrying through with the plan by inviting her to read some books, but Pinocchio went anyway. She crossed a bridge to the Inner Temple, where Weiss was training. Following her mother's instructions, she attempted to channel Heather Duke, who had been executed a month before. Mr. L was already near the temple, prepared for the worst. When Pinocchio did not show up, Willow became worried and also crossed to the island, channeling Duke to prevent Pinocchio from doing so. Duke, in Willow's body, found Weiss in the temple's garden and attempted to kill her, cornering her on a lantern in the temple garden. Mr. L witnessed this, though he was unaware of who was channeling Duke at the time. He found himself possessed by an intense hatred for the woman who had ruined his life, picking up Willow's sword-cane and stabbing Duke with it, only to be attacked by her one final time, causing his mask to fly off his face and leaving a wound.  fainted after the visor flew off, and Duke left Willow's body as she died. During the trial of Willow's murder, Duke, pretending to be Lila, testified that Weiss committed the crime. However, Marie eventually uncovered her identity and, with the help of Mr. L and Whitney, was able to come to the conclusion that Weiss was channeling Duke. Duke, condemned to eternal failure at the hands of Whitney, fled from Weiss's body. Lila was about to be pronounced innocent, but Mr. L then challenged Marie to try and find the true killer, without the help and support of the Schnee sisters. Weiss later testified as well. Filled with gratitude for Mr. L, she attempted to cover for him. Mr. L taunted Mendoza, asserting that she would "never be half the lawyer (Whitney) was", but Marie, fulfilling her mentor's legacy, persevered and proved that Mr. L was the killer, causing Mr. L's mask to explode from frustration. Realizing this, and seeing Whitney's spirit in Marie, Mr. L finally admitted his mistakes, accepting that he had only been angry at "Mari" because he had needed someone to blame for Whitney's death. He further added that he had been at least partly motivated by a chance at revenge. If he had really only wanted to save Weiss, he would have talked to Marie about the plan. At this moment, his eye wound from the knife stab began to bleed through the visor. When told about it, he said simply that red does not exist in his world, and that they were in fact his tears. In truth, he had problems with forgiving himself. He gave Weiss the same advice he had given Whitney on her first day in court: "The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over". His soul in peace at last, he shared one last cup of coffee with Marie in the courtroom (even though Marie was not a big fan of bold coffee), and they agreed that it was the best coffee they had ever tasted. In addition, Mr. L pronounced Marie’s name correctly for the first time. Marie was upset that he had been unable to save Mr. L, but Whitney assured him that he had saved Godot in a way that had nothing to do with living or dying. Mr. L started living with his brother Mario and still peruse his career as a prosecutor in his home country of Italy.

Since it's pride month, can I ask you what your headcanons are for everyones orientation in Providence? It's not something I can really see coming up in-story, but I'm curious nonetheless. :3

Hoo boy, anon, my answer to this is probably a lot more complex and in-depth than you were expecting, so BUCKLE UP Y’ALL LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION IN SOLDIER

(Note: I’m only going to talk about the original Compilation material for this, since that’s what TFA was written from and that’s what I’m writing Providence from.

Also all of my headcanons are colored by the fact that I am hella aro/ace myself so all flavors of allo are ??? to me)  

First off, major credit to @ageofzero​, who got me started down this headcanon path. The short version of their original headcanon is that SOLDIERs lose their sex drives due to the mako treatments, Jenova cells, and intense physical training regimen. After all, mako poisoning is a known Thing, and Jenova is a bizarre alien with no known gender (the original Japanese game never refers to her with any gender, and it’s strongly implied that her commonly-known feminine form is a shape she adopted to get close to the Cetra. Sephiroth only calls her “Mother” because Hojo lied to him that Jenova was his mother). 

I find this idea fascinating, and think it makes a lot of sense. Of the SOLDIERs we meet, only Zack seems to have any interest in forming romantic bonds with anyone, and even his relationship with Aerith is remarkably chaste. It’s impossible to know whether this is due to an actual intent to depict a chaste romantic relationship, needing to keep the games at a family-friendly rating, cultural differences between Japan and America in terms of how romantic and sexual affection are shown (especially in the 90s), the limitations of the game engine in terms of having the characters physically interact, or some combination of the above, but the result is that the canon we are shown does not include anything approaching a sexual relationship between two characters.*

Given all that, and given the unsettling implications you find if you so much as scratch the surface of ShinRa’s human experimentation**, I think it’s eminently reasonable to believe that however they might have started life, SOLDIERs no longer have sex drives or sexual desire. Which is all an incredibly long-winded way of saying, I headcanon all the SOLDIERs as some flavor of asexual: 

Sephiroth: Extremely aro/ace. I’ve talked before about how I think he sees people and relationships differently than humans do, and that extends to romance and sex. I’m not even sure “aro/ace” is the right label for him under those circumstances, but it’s close enough. 

Genesis: Ace, bi- or homoromantic. TFA and its non-canon side pieces suggest Genesis is romantically interested in Cloud (which I’ve been carrying into Providence), and we have no idea if he’s ever been romantically interested in anyone else. 

Angeal: Ace, probably either aro or heteroromantic. Like Genesis, we never see him express romantic interest in anyone, but it’s possible he does off-screen. 

Zack: Probably would have been bi or poly if he wasn’t in SOLDIER; as is, ace and bi- or poly-romantic. (but really only has eyes for Aerith) 

Kunsel: Ace, maybe demi-romantic? He’s eighteen in Providence and has been focused on rising through the SOLDIER ranks; I don’t think he himself knows for sure. 

Cloud: A bit of an outlier because I headcanon that he would have been aro/ace even if he hadn’t gotten the mako/Jenova treatments. At no point in any of the original game or greater Compilation does he express romantic or sexual interest in anyone. He cares deeply about Aerith and Tifa both, but at no point says or does anything to suggest that it’s romantic or sexual in nature. Tifa occasionally says things which imply she sees her relationship with Cloud that way, but he never responds in kind. At best, his childhood interest in her could be a bit of a puppy crush, but that doesn’t rule out aro/ace Cloud since so many aro/aces do experience puppy crushes or squishes that aren’t sexual/romantic in nature. Or it could be as simple as, Tifa was the popular kid and Cloud was the outcast kid, and he was interested in her because if she was friends with him, then maybe he wouldn’t be an outcast anymore. (I lied, I’m going to talk about the Remake for a second because I’m intrigued that it appears to have doubled down hard on ace!Cloud, to the point where a lot of people have said “I don’t normally have ace headcanons, but Remake!Cloud is ace”. He’s either completely oblivious to, or visibly uncomfortable with, half the cast wanting to get into his pants. Even when Aerith warns him not to fall in love with her, his objection is to her telling him what to do yet again rather than anything about his actual feelings.) 

Noctis: I realized as I was writing this post that I also headcanon Noctis as ace and probably aro- or demi-romantic. Like Cloud, we never see him express romantic or sexual interest toward anyone, which is notable given that he’s supposed to be marrying Lunafreya. He certainly seems to care deeply about her, but - like Cloud and Tifa/Aerith - his affection can be easily read as a close childhood friendship, and depending on which answers you give in the notebook choices, can canonically be brusque and uninterested. He’s also visibly uncomfortable with Gladio’s flirting (with other people) and Iris’s flirting (with Noct himself). Since we do see Gladio flirting, pretty brazenly sometimes, and we hear Prompto chatter about his crush on Cindy, Noct’s silence on the matter is telling. (He also throws an interesting wrench into the works around the SOLDIER castration headcanon, since he did get the treatments but they affected him very differently than everyone else. But I can’t say too much else there without venturing into spoiler territory.) 

So anyway hi, my name is Sanity and I have a lot of ace headcanons. ^_^;

* The closest we get is the scene near the end of the original game, with Cloud and Tifa under the Highwind before the final battle. The scene itself is, again, remarkably chaste. Depending on your Affection value with Tifa, it’s not even all that romantic; it reads mostly like two friends who have been through a lot together. The few lines that do shade toward romance all come from Tifa herself, not Cloud. Also, what Tifa says the next morning on the Highwind changes depending on whether or not your Affection value is high enough; if yes, she asks the others, “Were you watching?” and if no, she asks, “Were you listening?”. So it’s possible to get a canon path which suggests Tifa and Cloud did something she didn’t want the others watching, but 1) that still leaves a lot of room for interpretation, and 2) it’s equally possible to get a canon path which suggests nothing happened at all.

** I’m just going to quote @ageofzero​ here because they put it best: “It might've been an unintended side-effect, of course, but idk how anyone could've thought 'let's put Mako inside human beings' when everyone knows what a powerful burning energy source Mako is and what the hell that might do inside a human when people have likely already suffered Mako poisoning from building Midgar/the reactors. And also considering that Mako is a 'refining' of Lifestream that basically strips away all the benefits of Life within it, there's no way it's not some kind of reproduction dampening substance, among many other negative consequences. [...] ESPECIALLY since a lot of SOLDIERs probably start out in their teen years (Zack, and Cloud's attempt). They're still developing humans, and who knows what effects Mako has on someone who's still passing through adolescence???? Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth are all even worse off because they were babies when they were made prototype experiments for the SOLDIER method. [...] I can't imagine mako doing anything but turning the body into a weird toxic mess even if it is controlled and regulated so they don't suffer the loss of their mind. And what the hell does it do to SOLDIERs on a DNA level?? With how much mako (and Jenova cells) there is in their body, it could turn body fluids into burning/glowing/toxic substances. All body fluids. Or at the very least make it Not Good to be exposed to said fluids, if they're not directly toxic/mako-infused. It might very well be the brain turning off reproductive desires bc SOLDIERs are a biological dead end by the time they're strong enough to be considered SOLDIER. What a chilling concept (also hello I like thinking about weird biology).”
