Atticus Cogar vs VENY vs Lilith Brookes vs Tomi Nickells vs VIOLET vs Effy- Deathmatch Scramble- #1 Contendership
The eyes of our competitors scanned each other, and the man approaching the ring, as the strobe lights for the entrance of Atticus Cogar, the last man to make his entrance in this match, occasionally illuminated the six of them. Six of MPW’s best when it came to a Deathmatch environment, all six too talented to be left off a PPV like State of Emergency, so Paul Heyman devised this match. It would be one fall to a finish, anything goes, with the winner earning themselves #1 Contendership for the MPW Atlas Championship, meaning the winner of this match will challenge the winner of Hangman Page vs Lacey Karmens later on Tomight tomorrow on State of Emergency Night 2.
Cogar threw his mask aside and slithered into the ring, looking around at the rest of the competitors here Tomight. Effy, current GCW World Champion. VENY, former MPW World Champion. Lilith Brookes, former MPW World Champion, VIOLET, former MPW World Tag Team Champion, Atticus Cogar, former MPW Atlas Champion, and Tomi Nickells, member of a wrestling dynasty, and one of the fastest rising starts in MPW. The bell rings, and absolutely zero time is wasted here, as Atticus Cogar immediately charges Effy, tackling him into the corner of the ring, as the two start trading right hands with one another! Gotta have your head on a swivel here, and it doesn’t seem like Tomi Nickells does, as she nearly gets decapitated by a boot from VENY, knocking her out of the ring! VENY follows her out of the ring, and grabs a chair from underneath it, cracking the chair across Tomi’s back, and sending her crying out in agony! While Tomi tries to get away from VENY on the outside, Lilith grabs VIOLET and shoots her off the ropes, hunching over for a backdrop, but VIOLET leaps over Lilith and hits the ropes again, before taking Lilith out with a Japanese Armdrag, throwing Lilith across the ring, before charging Lilith and landing with a knee right to Lilith’s jaw! Lilith rolls to the outside, and VIOLET gets back to her feet, as Effy goes for a running Yakuza Kick on Atticus in the corner, but Atticus ducks it, sends Effy up and over the top rope, and dumps Effy to the outside!
VIOLET turns around, hearing Effy hit the floor on the outside, and tries to charge Atticus, looking for a clothesline, but Atticus traps her arm and picks VIOLET up, before depositing her on the mat with an Air Raid Crash! VIOLET hits hard, but Atticus doesn’t go for the cover right away- no, instead, Atticus apparently wants to shape the ring to his desired sadism, reaching into his pocket, pulling out some of his skewers, and stamping them into the turnbuckles in one corner of the ring. Atticus pulls out even more skewers, and deposits each bundle into each corner top turnbuckle, leaving a very sharp and nasty surprise for whoever lands on them.
Sure enough, Atticus is quick to want to use this to his advantage, grabbing VIOLET and lifting her up, before dropping VIOLET down onto one of the turnbuckles, back first, with a back suplex! VIOLET cries out in agony, as her back is driven into the shark skewers! VIOLET rolls to the middle of the ring, where Atticus hooks the leg for the cover!
1….2… Broken up!
VENY, who had been beating Tomi Nickells senseless on the outside with that chair, has the awareness to slide into the ring and breakup the pinfall, catching Atticus in the back with a Kendo Stick! VENY stayed on the offensive, whacking Atticus with the kendo stick again, causing him a great deal of pain until he escaped out of the bottom rope. VENY was quick to follow, however, and caught him with several more kendo stick shots, which backed Atticus into the steel guardrail, before dropping the kendo stick, grabbing Atticus, and whipping him into the trash can full of weapons at ringside! Atticus crashed into it, causing all of the weapons to spill out, and the trashcan itself to dent. As Cogar held his back in pain, cuts already evident from his trip through the glass pane, his back already leaking blood through his cut off t-shirt. VENY scoured the pile that had spilled out, looking for weapons, eventually settling on a hypodermic syringe, with a large, and evidently, very sharp needle. VENY uncapped it and grabbed Cogar, trapping him against the barricade and showing his face off to the fans, before pressing the syringe needle through his cheek! Atticus screamed in pain, and VENY pressed down on the plunger, spraying the clear liquid that was inside the syringe out, through his mouth, showing that indeed, the syringe was all the way through his cheek. Atticus answered back with a few hard elbows that got VENY off of him, before he turned around, grabbed the kendo stick they’d deposited, and cracked VENY over the head with it! VENY fell to the floor, holding their head, clearly dizzy after a shot like that!
Cogar pulled the syringe from his cheek and tossed it aside, before turning his attention back to VENY. Atticus caught them with a few stomps before tossing them back into the ring, before turning around, just in time to get blasted by a running Yazuka Kick from Effy! Effy drops Cogar on the outside, before sliding into the ring, and measuring VENY as she pulls herself up in the corner, charging in and nailing VENY with a Yakuza Kick, before climbing up the rope, wrapping his leg around her head, and pulling VENY down into a leg DDT, spiking her head into the mat, before Effy rolls VENY over, going for the cover!
1….2… Kickout!
VENY out at two! Effy rolls right back up to his feet and turns to see VIOLET getting up on the outside, before he turns, hits the ropes, and takes out VIOLET with a huge suicide dive! Effy and VIOLET both crash into the steel barricade!
Both competitors start to get up and back to their feet, just as Lilith finishes climbing up to the top rope, setting her feet, right before launching herself with a Corkscrew Moonsault to the outside, taking out both the Effy & VIOLET! Lilith is quickly back to her feet, and tries dragging VIOLET and Effy both back up as well, but as she does, Tomi Nickells springs off the ropes, before launching herself over the top rope, and down onto all three competitors on the outside with a Triangle Moonsault! What a maneuver from Tomi!
Tomi picks Effy up and catches him with a chop to the chest, before grabbing Effy and rolling him back into the ring. Effy picks himself up, using the turnbuckles to do so, before Tomi Nickells nails him with another stiff chop. Effy looks as if he’s regretting all of his life choices at this moment, as Tomi grabs him to whip him across the ring, as Effy lands in the opposite corner, right into those skewers that Cogar put there, and Nickells nails Effy with a BIG Yakuza kick in the corner! Effy looks like he might not know where he is right now due to all these kicks to the head and chest! Tomi Nickells lifts Effy up and slams him down, before Nickells slaps the turnbuckle pad a couple times, getting the crowd clapping, before Nickells jumps off the bottom rope, pushes herself up into the air for some height, and then drops both knees down on Effy’s sternum! That’s gotta hurt! Tomi Nickells into the cover!
1…2… Kickout!
Effy out at two. Effy tries to find his breath again as Lilith Brookes jumps up onto the apron, but Tomi charges the Anti-Icon, taking a swing at her, not connecting but getting her back down to the floor all the same. As Tomi turns back around, Effy charges her, but Nickells sends Effy up and over the rope, Effy catching himself on the apron. Tomi gets himself out on the apron as well, and tries to kick Effy, but Effy catches the leg, and throws one of Nickells’s legs back into the ring, before Effy kicks the ropes, essentially committing a low blow on Tomi Nickells as the rope gets kicked into her lady parts! Tomi Nickells cries out in pain, but that’s nothing compared to what Effy does next, grabbing Tomi by the head, and dropping her down onto the ring apron with a neckbreaker! Nickells’s head, neck, and spine driven down onto the hardest part of the ring!
Effy rolls back into the ring as Tomi rolls out, only to be caught by a Missile Dropkick from a flying VIOLET! VIOLET lands on her feet, and shakes the ropes to get the crowd fired up, only to turn and see VENY has slid into the ring behind her. VIOLET takes a swing but VENY slips behind and traps VIOLET in a waist lock, before picking VIOLET up and dumping her right on her face, trading in waist control on the former MMA champion for a front face lock, trying to wear VIOLET down. VIOLET is quick to try and get back to her feet, and peppers VENY with a couple of shots to the ribs to try and get VENY off of her. VENY releases the hold, and VIOLET is quick to toss her down with a snapmare, before hitting the ropes and looking for a boot, but VENY lays back to evade it, before grabbing VIOLET and rolling her up!
1…2.. kickout!
VIOLET out at two on the surprise pin. VENY is quick to grab control back again, grabbing VIOLET in another headlock, and trying to keep it cinched in, but VIOLET lifts VENY up and deposits her overhead with a BIG Saito Suplex! VENY gets dumped on her head and rolls to the corner, as VIOLET gets up, charges, and lays into VENY with a big hip attack! VIOLET gets up, and lets out of war cry, but as she turns around, she gets BLASTED by a thrown chair, thrown by Atticus Cogar! VIOLET stumbles and falls into the ropes, as Atticus reaches into his pocket, and pulls out another bundle of skewers, before grabbing a hold of VIOLET, displaying her for the crowd, and then pounding the skewers into VIOLET’s head!
Atticus drags VIOLET off the ropes, and hooks her, before planting VIOLET in the middle of the ring with the Headlock Driver! Skewers go everywhere, some unfortunately still stuck in VIOLET’s head, as Atticus rolls VIOLET over for the cover, to earn a title shot on Night 2!
1…..2…. BROKEN UP!
Atticus should’ve had this match won, but a chair shot from…
Julia Hart?!
Julia Hart breaks up the pinfall, she’s not even part of this match! Julia is facing off against two other Dollhouse members tomorrow, but it seems Julia has decided that tomorrow isn’t enough! She needs to cost the Dollhouse the way they costed her and Abby against Max!
Atticus sits up and clutches his back, shouting at Julia, asking just what the hell she’s doing out here, but Julia just answers by throwing the chair right at Atticus’s face! Atticus rolls backward, and Julia grabs a handful of skewers, still embedded in the turnbuckle pads, and instead grabs Atticus, and starts pounding them into HIS head! Eye for an eye from Julia here tonight!
Julia looks over her shoulder, just in time to catch Bambi & Ophelia charging down the ramp, looking to help Atticus, as Julia hightails it out of there, her mission complete tonight. Julia hops the barricade, and the other Dollhouse members give chase, but Julia has a decent enough lead on them and manages to escape into the crowd!
Meanwhile, Atticus is crawling across the ring, having pulled the skewers out of his head, and looks to try and cover VIOLET again, maybe trying to salvage this match… when Tomi Nickells slides into the ring, and drives Atticus’s head into the mat with a curb stomp! Nickells & Dimes! Tomi into the cover!
1….2…3!
“Here is your winner, and new #1 Contender for the MPW Atlas Championship, Tomi Nickells!”
Tomi lets out a victorious… war cry? Screech? Whatever you call it, eyes wide and crazed, Tomi is victorious here tonight, and will meet the winner of Hangman Page & Lacey Karmens tomorrow for the Atlas Championship!

Very interesting to see which moves and sequences were already around and which weren't, and what of the stuff they were doing was lost in time. So many armdrags. A backbreaker but the other way round, guess that's a stomach breaker. Haven't seen a single suplex yet, have seen several things that resemble hurricanranas from a standing position as well as people jumping up on their opponent's shoulder for a crucifix takedown. Also running the ropes with leapfrogs and all that is definitely a late in the match escalation and finish kind of thing, not how you start it off.
Watched some of that 60s Catch (translator's note: catch means pro wrestling) and I did not expect them to be doing lucha shit. Like what was that, Le Petit Prince??

I know Orange Cassidy’s whole gimmick is that he doesn’t feel like it, but MAN that boy, when he pulls out the moveset...he is phenomenal.
#I just saw his match with the Bastard PAC at AEW Revolution#it was so GOOD#the gimmick wouldn't work if he couldn't wrestle#and he really can#he can do an armdrag with his hands in his pockets!

The bell rings, and the two meet in the middle of the ring, strangely enough, Eric reaches out and extends his hand to Riley, looking for a handshake. A rare show of sportsmanship from Eric Taylor perhaps, and Riley, surprisingly, very hesitantly reaches out and accepts it, before rolling out of the way as Eric tries to pull her in and nail her with a forearm! Riley wags a finger at Eric, telling him that she’s not stupid enough to fall for that. Eric huffs, already frustrated, and the two lock up! Riley pulls him into a headlock quickly, but Eric shoots her off the ropes, on the rebound, Riley takes him down with a big shoulder tackle. Riley gives him a mocking wave as she looks down at him, and hits the ropes again, Eric quickly up to his feet, leapfrog’s Riley, and on the rebound, nails Riley with a big dropkick! Follows it up with a big kip up back to his feet, and he takes the time to take a lap around the ring, showing all of New York just how damn good Eric Taylor thinks he is.
Eric gets back up and quickly traps Riley in a wirstlock, trying to wear down on Riley’s arm. Eric continues to wrench on Riley’s arm, but Riley manages to twist through again, and wrench Eric’s arm, before pulling him into a headlock. Riley’s a world renowned grappler, and it’s showing so far tonight. Riley wrenches in the side headlock, before Eric manages to back her into the ropes, shooting Riley off the ropes, but on the rebound, Riley drops Eric with a shoulder tackle! As Eric’s dropped to the mat, Riley puts a finger to her ear, noting that Eric’s supporters have gone quiet here for a second. Riley smirks to herself, before turning to hit the ropes, but Eric drops down in front of her, and then on the next rebound, Eric leapfrogs Riley, before on the third rebound catching Riley with a big arm drag! Riley hits the mat, and Eric continues to wrench the arm bar, trying to weaken Riley here. Riley fights back up to her feet, and sends Eric off the ropes, but this time on the rebound, Eric takes Riley down with the shoulder tackle!
Eric takes a second to play to his small group of fans, before turning to hit the ropes, this time Riley dropping down in front of him, forcing Eric to jump over her, and then leapfrogging Eric on the rebound, before catching Eric with a deep armdrag of her own, right into the armbar! Riley showing the young, brash Taylor how its done here! Riley continues to wrench the arm, as Eric tries to get his feet back under him, Riley not letting go. Eric manages to get back to his feet, but Riley is still wrenching the arm, Eric tries to forward roll to reverse pressure, and then gain control of Riley’s arm, but as Eric gets back up, Riley catches him with another armdrag, restablishing arm control as she once again has Eric down on the mat! Riley with one hell of an experience advantage here, and she was showing it off. Riley continues to wrench the arm as Eric gets back up once again, this time electing to back Ishimori into the corner. Eric then tries to send Riley across the ring, but Riley instead pulls Eric back in and nails him with a forearm shot! Eric shakes it off, and kicks Riley in the gut a couple of times, before eventually trying again, but Riley turns it around on him, sending Eric into the opposite corner, but Eric manages to go up and over on Riley, before grabbing her and catching her with another deep armdrag here!
Eric continues to work over the arm, wrenching down on it. Riley relies on her arms for so many of her submission holds and other powerful manuvers, and it seems Eric knows that, and is targeting the shoulder and elbow to weaken Ishimori. Eric puts his knee on Riley’s head to continue to add pressure to the joint, but Riley is quickly able to escape and work back to her feet, forcing Eric back into the corner. Clemons tries to back Riley off of Eric, but as she releases her hold on him, Riley follows it up by kneeing Eric Taylor directly in the gut! Riley follows it up with a big elbow right to the back of Eric’s head, before grabbing Eric and throwing him right into the turnbuckles, head first.
Riley goes to send Eric into the opposite corner with a whip, but Riley goes up and over the top rope, landing on the outside apron. Eric tries to charge her, but a shoulder to the gut forces him to hunch over, as Riley slingshots herself over the ropes and into a sunset flip, before pushing Eric through, getting backup, and nailing Eric with a superkick right to the jaw!
Eric rolls out of the ring, and in a huff of frustration, Eric decides he’s wasted enough time here tonight. Eric goes and grabs a ladder, and starts trying to maneuver it right back into the ring, so he can start trying to get his title back. Riley meets him as he turns around, though, nailing Eric with a forearm, and forcing him to drop the ladder, as Riley steals it from him, and bridges it across the ring apron and the steel guardrail, before turning her attention back to Eric. Eric catches her with a right to the gut, though, before grabbing Riley and throwing her right into the steel guardrail! Riley’s spine hits the steel! Eric takes a couple steps back, before charging Riley, and nailing her with a clothesline, knocking her right over the guardrail and out into the fans!
“If the action looks like it’s coming your way, it is! Grab your shit and move!”
A familar warning from Steve Guy, but perhaps one people wouldn’t expect from a Eric Taylor and Riley Ishimori match, but that’s just the way MPW’s been going these next couple of months. Eric jumps over the guardrail, and meets Riley on the floor, before the two begin trading forearms back and forth, this one has spilled out into a brawl in the crowd!
Riley & Eric go back and forths, trading right hands and forearm shots, trying to beat the hell out of each other! Riley and Eric go back and forth, Eric tries to rake Riley’s eyes, but Riley blocks it, and nails Eric with a big headbutt! Eric goes stumbling back, and Riley grabs a chair from one of our audience members, and whaps Eric in the back with it! Eric tries to get away, but Riley just grabs Eric and shitcans him back over the guardrail, back to the ringside area, before she measures, and leaps up onto the guardrail, before leaping onto Eric, and taking him out with a tornado DDT! Eric Taylor’s head spiked into the floor! Riley gets him back in the ring for a cover!
1….2… Kickout!
Eric Taylor stays alive! Riley picks Eric back up and goes to send Eric into the opposite corner with a whip, but Riley goes up and over the top rope, landing on the outside apron. Eric tries to charge her, but a shoulder to the gut forces him to hunch over, as Riley slingshots herself over the ropes and into a sunset flip, shoulders down!
1….2… Kickout!
Eric kicks out but Riley’s right back in control of his arm with the armbar, working it over as she did before. Eric is quick to try and get back to his feet though, backing Riley into the corner, before shooting her off into the opposite turnbuckles. Riley once again goes up and over and lands on her feet on the apron. Eric charges in, as Riley launches herself for the sunset flip again, thinking Eric fell for the same trick, but this time Eric blocks it and Riley rolls up to her feet, only for Eric to lift her up and drop her neck first on the ropes with a Stungun! Beautiful counter by the rookie!
Eric gets up and mocks Riley with a little strut, before making the cover on Riley.
1… Kickout!
Perhaps the strut wasted just a little too much time as all Eric gets is a one count. Eric gets back to his feet after the rookie mistake, but stays on Riley, stomping right on her hand! Riley sits up and clutches her hand, shaking it out as she grits her teeth. Eric follows it up with a kick to the back, right on Riley’s spine. Eric then traps Riley in a headlock, wrenching down, trying to weaken Ishimori even further. Riley starts to fight back up to her feet, catching Eric with a couple of right hands to the gut, before sending Eric into the ropes, only to get leveled by a huge clothesline on the rebound from Eric! Cover!
1….2… Kickout!
That time Taylor manages to get a two count, but the match is still going. Riley crawls to the ropes, but Eric doesn’t give her a second to breathe, putting a knee on the back of Riley’s head and choking her against the ropes, until Clemons has to pull Eric off of her! While Clemons is busy repremanding Eric, he doesn’t see Solo Sikoa grab Riley and continue to choke her on the ropes behind the ref’s back! Solo backs off before Clemons turns around, and Eric grabs a handful of Riley’s hair, nailing her with a straight right hand. Eric monuts Riley, and peppers her with a couple of right hands, before going for another cover.
1….2… Kickout!
Riley out at two again, but Eric for his efforts has managed to force Riley onto the defensive, which is what he had to do if he was gonna win this match. Eric gets back to his feet, grabbing Riley, and planting her with a back suplex, before rolling out onto the arpon, before using the ropes to launch himself and crash down on Riley with a rolling senton, dropping himself right on Riley’s sternum, before going for another cover!
1….2… Kickout!
Another kickout, but Eric might be managing to chip away at Riley’s armor even further. Eric gets back up, and grabs Riley into a surfboard stretch, driving his knee into Riley’s back as Riley as her arms pulled tag, once again the stress being targeted at Riley’s shoulders. Eric continues to wrench, but Riley is quick to get an arm free, before using that to help her get up, and to help turn herself. Riley is back up, but Eric kicks her in the gut, before lifting Riley up and planting her with a Brainbuster! Cover by Eric Taylor!
1….2… Kickout!
Riley stays alive once again! Eric Taylor pounds the mat in frustration, and quickly tries to push his advantage, picking Riley back up, and trying to set up for what looks to be a Piledriver, but Riley manages to shove Eric off. Riley charges Eric again, but Eric grabs the referee and pulls them in the way, and Riley catches the referee with a boot to the face! The referee goes down, and Eric Taylor takes advantage of Riley’s moment of shock, as she realizes what she did, and she doesn’t see it coming as Eric Taylor goes low on her! A clam punt on Riley, yes, it hurts those with lady parts too, sends Riley dropping to her hands and knees, and now Eric Taylor has Riley right where he wants her. Eric goes to spring off the ropes, looking for the Springboard Curb Stomp, but as Eric springs off the ropes, suddenly, a hooded camera man jumps up in an amazing feat of athleticism, camera in hand, and CLOCKS Eric Taylor with the camera! Eric collapses down to the mat in a heap, as another camera pans to the camera man that just took a shot at Eric Taylor, revealing, as the man readjusts his hood, it’s actually Dyln Blaine! Dyln Blaine gives the camera a shush, before dropping his camera and bailing out of the ringside area! Dyln with the sabotage play!
Riley may not know entirely what just happened, but she knows Eric Taylor is out, flat on his back at the moment! Riley shrugs and picks Eric Taylor back up, before dropping ET with a BIG Godkiller! Goodnight, Eric! Our referee comes to just in time to count the pin!
1…..2….3!
“Here is your winner, Riley Ishimori!”
