Tara created a colorful, plant-filled BoHo home for herself and her children behind the bright blue door of this 1950′s house.
Tumblr media
Isn’t this lovely? She certainly has a flair for combining colors, patterns, and styles.
Tumblr media
The old cabinet was found in the online buying and selling column and ended up in the corner of the living room.
Tumblr media
Tara does retreats where she uses dried flowers for a salt ceremony. A follower sent her the Turkish lamp as a gift.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The armchair in the living room is old, from Tara's friend's grandmother. Tara brought the pillow from India and bought turquoise stools from a chain furniture store. They weren’t even for sale, but Tara talked them into selling them to her!
Tumblr media
She painted the wall shelves with chalk paint in turquoise. "Painting is an easy way to remodel old objects."
Tumblr media
Wallpapered shadowbox.
Tumblr media
The mazes of the old house make the home a safe nest. The living room overlooks the porch, interspersed with a hallway. Tara no longer believes in the rules for combining different colors and patterns. The more colorful and free, the more fun. "I paint objects and colors with beautiful views of my home so that there is something nice to watch everywhere."
Tumblr media
The turquoise chest of drawers is a former baby care table that Tara remodeled with paint and new handles. The ladder was found at the flea market, the chair is from Ikea, footstool and cushion from India.
Tumblr media
Before the yellow room became Tara’s TV room, it served as a bedroom. The sofa was bought second-hand. Tara painted the flowerpot, flower table and wicker chair pink with spray paint.
Tumblr media
The macramé was made by a friend.
Tumblr media
Tara says she has gone through different colors. Right now, she is charmed by the turquoise that is on the walls of the bedroom. A mandala pattern on the wall was ordered by Tara from a friend who had done a similar painting on the stool. Tara gave her friend a free hand to design it.
Tumblr media
She painted the corner of the bedroom black because dark shades bring depth to the room. Tara's husband drilled wooden boxes into the wall as a bookshelf. The colorful textiles are from India.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In India, she realized that objects and colors can be boldly combined.
Tumblr media
Tara admired this shelf she had seen at a cosmetics store, and when the store moved, the shelf was offered to her. She has about 140 green plants. Every Thursday he goes through them, watering and spraying.

never seen you this happy, never seen you so peaceful
mac’s first birthday fic in honour of the birthday girl @fourdrinkamy 😘
She can’t believe she has a one year old, that it’s been a full 365 (and a half) days since she pushed Mac out surrounded by Scully’s fart candles and firefighters and Captain Holt dancing to Push It.
Obviously she is aware that a year has passed. She has finished a planner, started a new one, celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, watched her husband agonise over more and more grey hairs, completed maternity leave, returned to work, received a commendation for her work during the blackout and gradually fit back into her old clothes. Mac is no longer a not-so-tiny newborn and is instead a walking, talking, fully fledged member of their family. And yet it’s all happened so fast.
She’s spent two months of the last twelve planning this day; consulting Charles on food, Rosa on decorations (with a strict no balloon arch policy) and inviting every Santiago, Peralta and detective in the Ninety-Ninth Precinct to their apartment to celebrate Mac’s big day.
And he’s sleeping through it all.
She wouldn’t normally complain because she’s blessed to have a baby at all (there was a case involving a guy in the Colombian cartel and six stressful months where she didn’t think this was going to happen for them) and is especially blessed to have a baby that sleeps (her friends at Mommy & Me class are inconceivably jealous), but a first birthday is a big deal and she’d quite like him to be awake to enjoy it. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes just to get some pictures.
She thinks screw it and decides to wake him up. It’s a strategy that has worked out alright for her in the past, Mac’s very existence, and the wonderful life she is living now, owed to that fateful day where she showed up at Jake’s door with her screw light and breezy monologue.
She dodges Mason and Matthew running around like madmen, smiles politely at Holt and Kevin and rescues her Le Creuset pot from Hitchcock and Scully en route to the nursery. It’s a small room at the back of their apartment, formerly a guest room for whenever her parents came to stay, and if they have more kids in the future they’ll definitely have to move somewhere bigger, but for now it’s perfect. They went for a jungle theme with a mural (painted by Terry) on one wall, a giraffe twice the size of Mac and forest green cushions on her hand-me-down rocking chair from her parents. There’s a bookshelf overflowing with books, a couple of framed family pictures, including one from the hospital on the day he was born, and the simple Ikea crib that took them a full day to assemble.
She approaches said crib, Mac sleeping soundly inside it and leans down to stroke his father’s unruly curls. He shifts in his sleep, makes a noise of discontent and opens his big, beautiful eyes.
So much like Jake, she thinks for the millionth time.
“Hey, birthday boy, she murmurs quietly. “Your whole family is here to see you, you know.”
He makes another discontented grumble as if to say “and you woke me up just to tell me that?”, closing his eyes again.
“Oh no, no, no.” She lifts him out his crib and bounces him in her arms. “Time to wake up, Mr Mac.”
She can hear the party in full swing in the other room, the muffled sound of Shake it Off coming through the speakers. It’s Jake and Mac’s favourite song and she genuinely has about 15 different videos of them dancing to it saved in her phone. She knows how excited Jake was to dance to it with him at the party and, as if on cue, he pops his head around the nursery door.
He immediately narrows his eyes suspiciously. “What are you doing?”
“Holding our son,” she responds, feigning innocence. “What are you doing?”
“Saw you on the baby monitor app, thought I’d come investigate.”
Investigate. Like she’s some criminal.
He has this theory. A completely baseless, more-insane-than-flat-earthers theory, that she likes to wake Mac up before he’s ready.
And OK, yes, maybe she has woken him up once or twice to go to the stationary store that had a sale on.
And, fine, sometimes after a long shift at work she gets a little impatient and prematurely wakes him up from his nap.
And she did just wake him up so he could come and enjoy his birthday party, but it’s a special circumstance and it’s not like she does it everyday.
(Except for weekdays which obviously don’t count because she likes to have him ready nice and early so she gets a bit of one-on-one time before she has to leave him with a ‘sitter all day).
(Weekends don’t count either because they’re her days off and she has a lot of baby snuggles to fit into a limited time).
“I’ll have you know that he was awake when I came in.” She sniffs defiantly.
“Of course he was,” he says, walking into the nursery with this smug look on his face that is simultaneously the most annoying and hottest thing she’s ever seen.
“You should let him sleep, Ames. There’s nothing wrong with him sleeping in. He’s just like his dad and I turned out alright, didn’t I?”
She glances at an unknown stain on his shirt.
“OK, maybe don’t answer that,” he adds in retrospect. “The point is that he’s a sleepy baby. The doctor said it’s totally normal and she could give us the numbers of a hundred other parents who would kill to have babies who sleep as much as Mac. We should consider ourselves lucky.”
“We are lucky,” she smiles softly at the little guy in her arms. “The luckiest. I just...”
“Miss him,” Jake answers for her, crouching next to the armchair and joining her in admiring their sleeping baby. “I get it, babe. We made an awesome kid. I miss him when he’s asleep too.”
She pouts. “I planned this amazing party for him and he’s slept through the whole thing.”
He opens his mouth to say something, then hesitates. She can practically see his brain whirring. It’s a familiar look, one he gets when he’s about to solve a case or say something super romantic. “This is happening,” he decides. And then he pokes one of their son’s adorable chubby cheeks.
Mac reluctantly opens one eye and upon seeing mom and dad, immediately opens the other. He grins at them and even after a year of cute moments just like it, it has still not got old.
“You just woke him up!” Amy gasps, offended. “How come you’re allowed to and I’m not?”
“Maybe I did it for you, Ames. You gave birth to him while managing a freaking citywide emergency, I’m pretty sure I can wake him up just this once to enjoy the birthday party you so brilliantly planned.”
“You’re the best,” she replies, kissing his cheek and hearing a click as Jake captures the moment.
“Birthday selfie!” He exclaims, grinning at her with the exact same smile as their son.
They rejoin the party and Amy holds him as everyone sings Happy Birthday and Jake helps him blow out his birthday candles (and later reveals that he wished for another Die Hard sequel and a brother or sister for Mac) and when Amy puts the finishing touches to His First Year scrapbook: Twelve Months, One Baby, she is certain that the last year has been the best one ever.
And they still have a lifetime more ahead of them.

The Ikea Test
Pairing: Sebastian x Reader
Warnings: Pregnant Reader, a playful dig at Swedish people (I’m danish it’s what we do. Nothing is meant by it)
Word Count: 1500ish
A/N: This is thought part of my LLL universe but as always it can also be read as a stand-alone.
Betaed by: @blacktithe7 thank you, sweetie!

Tumblr media
It had been a long day and you were absolutely exhausted as you sat in the new armchair in your daughter’s nursery. It was your own fault really. Sebastian had been willing to pay to get designer products if that had been what you wanted. It just wasn’t.
You weren’t poor by any means but you also weren’t Beyonce or whatever Hollywood actor brought in the big bucks that the moment. You didn’t mind. New York was an expensive city to live in, but it was home to Sebastian. Truth be told you were really starting to love it too. Every street corner was starting to bring with it memories. Happy memories of a life with the sweetest, kindest man you had ever met; a man who, luckily enough, adored you as much as you did him.
So since you weren’t looking to leave New York anytime soon you just had to think a little about how you spent your money. You still lived way above average, but you knew a baby was pretty expensive. This was why you had insisted that baby clothes didn’t need to be designer brands to be comfortable and cute. You also didn’t need a room you would only use in that form for a year or two to cost an arm and a leg. Which was why you had dragged Sebastian with you to Ikea, jokingly telling him that if your relationship could sustain a trip like that, there wasn’t anything you wouldn’t be able to weather.
Sebastian had just rolled his eyes at you, but as you had entered the maze that was the department store, he had started to see the reality of your joke. Luckily, Sebastian loved shopping with you, no matter if it was clothes for one of you or things for the house, but especially when it was for your daughter.
Sebastian had been so excited ever since the first scan, but it had taken new heights after he learned you were having a baby girl. He brought home little outfits or toys she wouldn’t be able to play with for months or years all the time. You rolled your eyes at him, but the truth was, you found it endearing. You were so happy to see how excited he was to meet her, and you loved how tactile he was with you. He always was, but the further along you got in your pregnancy, the more handsy he got. Not in a sexual way necessarily, more protective and loving.
He was actually enjoying Ikea with you, so it wasn’t really much of a test in the typical sense. It was more a test of his sense of direction, or lack there off. Which did put your patience to a test in return. All in all, it had been an amazing day, and you had returned home with a mobile, the armchair you were currently sitting in breezing through the book of baby names, a dresser that had yet to be collected, and the crib Sebastian was sitting on the floor trying to assemble.
“How about Lea?” you asked only looking up from the book when Sebastian answered shortly.
“No.”
You frowned, a little annoyed with his quick dismissal of the name, but you also had a hard time holding onto that anger as you looked at him. His hair was still long from playing Bucky. He was keeping it that way in case they called him back for reshoots unless he got another role that would force him to cut it. He had currently pulled it back into a small ponytail but loose strands had escaped the rubber band prison and were framing his concentrated face as he struggled with the frame of the crib.
“You can’t just say no,” you scolded without any anger in your voice, as you extended your leg poking his side with your fuzzy socked foot. “Give me a reason why?”
“Because,” Sebastian looked up at you, blowing the hair away from his face which only helped for about five seconds. “You said you wanted her last name to be Stan.”
“Lea Stan,” you chewed the inside of your cheek, before nodding. “Yeah, that’s not gonna work. Next.”
“Honey. I’m kinda busy here,” Sebastian sighed, making you smile wider.
“I could help you?” you offered, making Sebastian shake his head.
“No. You’ll get cold on the floor. Stay up there,” he ordered, making you roll your eyes at him.
“Yes. Sir.”
“Sorry,” Sebastian sent you a sheepish smile, knowing how much you hated him ordering you around. It didn’t happen often. He wasn’t that kind of guy, but a few poorly chosen words at the wrong time had definitely taught him his lesson. Luckily you appeared to be in a great mood. You waved him off returning your attention to the book.
“How about Georgeta?” Sebastian offered absentmindedly as he returned his attention to the puzzle of furniture pieces in front of him.
“No.”
Sebastian smirked, fully expecting that answer, but he still couldn’t help but poke fun at you.
“You can’t just say no. Give me a reason?” Sebastian mocked your voice, making you laugh and gently poke his side with your foot again. That earned a hearty laugh from Sebastian as he looked up at you with sparkling eyes.
“Because sweetheart. As much as I love your mother and I do love her,” you assured him, making his smile widen. “I do not want our kid to get picked on all the way through high school.”
“Fair enough,” Sebastian chuckled, groaning to himself as he seemed to have lost some piece of the eventual crib in front of him.
“What about Victoria?” you suggested, wiggling your nose in thought, not completely sold on that one yourself.
“It’s a little posh isn’t it?” Sebastian muttered, halfway paying attention. “It there a logic to the names you are picking?”
“Yeah. I was trying to find something that could work in danish, Romanian and English. And that works with Stan, and it cute,” you listed making Sebastian laugh.
“That’s not gonna be easy, darling,” he teased before groaning in frustration again.
“Seb, just let me help.” You closed the book, pushing yourself toward the edge of the chair, ready to get on the floor.
“No, stay up there. I got this,” Sebastian let go of the crib, turning to face you, putting his hands on your thighs to prevent you from moving. Just as he did, the frame of the crib fell apart in almost slow motion, landing in four different places.
“Clearly,” you laughed as Sebastian looked over his shoulder, but stopped as soon as you realized Sebastian wasn’t even close to as amused with the whole thing as you were.
“Goddammit,” he yelled grabbing one of the pieces and flinging it across the floor. It startled you a little since you weren’t used seeing him lose his temper like that. You flinched but quickly regained composure, wrapping your arms around his head, and he, to your relief, leaned into your embrace straight away.
“I should be able to do this,” Sebastian mumbled, burying his face deeper into your lap, making you smile. He was frustrated, but he didn’t take it out on you. He never did. Instead, he sought comfort in you, and you suddenly realized this was another side of him you loved dearly.
“It’s okay. Ikea is Swedish. They overcomplicate things. That’s what Swedes do,” you reassured him, running your fingers through his hair, losing the hairband.
Sebastian looked up at you, smiling cheekily as he spoke. “Did you just insult yourself there Y/N/N?”
“I’m Danish you idiot,” you tugged his hair, making him groan a little, “not Swedish.”
The little punishment clearly hadn’t relieved Sebastian of his sudden teasing mood as his eyes kept flickering with mischief.
“Close enough,” he smirked, causing your eyes to widen. You quickly grabbed the baby book, gently whacking him over the head with it.
Sebastian jumped back a little, still laughing. “Hey! What was that for?”
“I don’t call you Russian do I?” you pouted, causing Sebastian to laugh even harder as he pushed himself onto his knees, moving between your legs.
“I. Am. So. Sorry.” Sebastian spoke, punctuating each word with a small peek to your pouty lips.
“It will never happen again,” he promised as you started to giggle at his shenanigans.
“You’re such an ass sometimes,” you sighed, wrapping your arms around his neck, and Sebastian grinned widely, knowing he was forgiven.
“You love my ass,” he wiggled his eyebrows, causing you to laugh and shake your head at him as he leaned in to kiss you deeply and tenderly.
He might not be the best carpenter in the world or even remotely close to being one at all, but he made you laugh, feel happy and loved. That was all you needed, and you would just have to make sure the crib wasn’t gonna break down with your daughter in it when Sebastian wasn’t home so his feeling wouldn’t get hurt either. You didn’t need him to be able to build you anything, but if it made him happy to try, you’d gladly let him.

IKEA Birmingham
With more than 20 branches in England, IKEA is one of the first professional furniture stores that comes to mind when furniture is mentioned. IKEA, the favorite furniture manufacturer in Europe, has all the products sought in terms of household goods and furniture.
IKEA, which is the most admired store among all domestic and foreign furniture stores in the countries it serves, offers the best in concept and creativity. Product pricing is also very successful.
With the modular furniture service, the products cover a small area before assembly and the assembly is offered with a simple system. All products of IKEA stores, which stand out with their practicality and minimalist approach, from the entrance to the exit, contain the most necessary products for a home, office and garden.
IKEA products are of high quality and guaranteed. Product information from production to sale of each product is indicated on the labels in detail.
The closest IKEA store to my house is IKEA Milton Keynes, but IKEA Greenwich and IKEA Birmingham, which are the other branches I like to visit, are places I can definitely recommend.
IKEA's wardrobes, beds, tables, shelves, chairs and armchairs have truly excellent designs and superior quality. I've never had any complaints about the quality or use of any product I've bought so far.
Thanks to its huge area, which also offers a wonderful living space for families and especially children, you can both visit with your children and have a great lunch break after shopping.

“Fast Fashion” Furniture Has Given Us a World of Crappy Couches
Sure, that couch you bought on Wayfair is too uncomfortable to sit on, but at least it looks nice.
The Outline Hanson O’Haver
I am writing this from an imitation Arne Vodder dining chair that is roughly two inches too short for my Ikea table, forcing me to keep my arms elevated at an unnatural height, while also leaving my neck and shoulders dangerously hunched. My back hurts. I could move to my Milo Baughman-style armchair, but frankly the situation there is even worse, as the extended seat cushion and rigid top rail mold my posture into the shape of the letter Ç (the cedilla is my legs). Not so long ago I was happy to work from a $30 Target computer chair, but today I wouldn’t dream of keeping such a bleak object in my apartment, no matter how comfortable.
What happened? I got a little older, started making slightly more money, and found myself caring about furniture. To be clear, it’s not like I’m reading books about Bauhaus or saving up for an Eames chair (I had to Google to figure out who my chairs are ripping off), but I am concerned with having a cool couch in a way I never thought I could be.
A quick glance into my peers’ more-adult apartments shows I’m hardly alone in this inclination. My Instagram feed is filled with stylish interiors, much of them furnished by trendy, affordable sites like Wayfair and Houzz, plus giants like Amazon and Wal-Mart. In between my friends’ posts are ads from these same companies. As a 2018 Surface piece on knockoff designs points out, there’s a huge consumer base out there “in search of something that ‘just looks nice.’”
Fast-furniture manufacturers capitalize on this desire by giving shoppers an opportunity to buy trend-informed furniture at a price that doesn’t force them to pretend they’re investing in the future. Wasteful though it may be, it doesn’t necessarily make sense to buy an expensive sofa if you don’t know where you’ll be living in a year.
So it should come as little surprise that much of this furniture isn’t great. Search for “mid-century modern sofa” on Wayfair and the current top result is the Cobbs Convertible Sofa by a brand called Langley Street, now on sale for $268.99 (45 percent off!). Out of a possible five-star ranking, it scores a 4.25 based on 3,938 reviews, which makes it seem wonderful. But read the reviews and, fittingly for a convertible, something lackluster unfolds. It’s not so much the straight-up negative reviews (“soon as we opened the product, it smelled like horse’s dung SO BAD”) as all the hedges: “It’s not the most comfortable, but I can definitely sit on it for a while”; “Overall i would recommend this couch to people who don’t have a lot of money”; “The plastic middle support legs are a bummer but not too worried about it.” These are all from five-star reviews. Consumers are so used to inexpensive things being bad that mediocrity doesn’t stop them from rating them as perfect. As Wanyi from Mississauga puts it, “It is not super comfy but not uncomfortable for me either. It looks amazing!”

Luxury Brands Suspend Sales
Find out which brands banned Russian buyers, and discover how this business decision is not as politically motivated as it seems.
LVMH followed Cartier’s example and suspended sales of high-end luxury products in Russia. Hermes, Chanel, and other brands including Ikea, Apple, Microsoft, and Nike have also stopped Russian sales. The only hold-out is Gucci, but from this armchair, it looks like they too will suspend activity. The timing of these actions is telling. Over the past week, wealthy Russians have been observed…

Seasoned renters Lucienne Van Sebille, trade manager at Pop and Scott and stylist, and Sebastian Van Sebille, chef at True North, lived in Melbourne’s inner-north for a decade before making the move to further out to Eltham.
The couple had heard rave reviews about the suburb for years, but thought things surely couldn’t be as amazing as they seem. Turns out, they are!
Even though a potential move out of the city had long been discussed by the pair, it wouldn’t have happened in 2020 if not for the pandemic. Lucienne explains, ‘The owners of our last home sadly had to move back from overseas due to COVID, so it was very tricky for them and us.’
Finding a new rental property mid pandemic was hardly ideal, but everything fell into place after Lucienne spotted this Alistair Knox-designed home up for lease. ‘After constant refreshes on my real estate search page, I literally jumped on the spot in excitement when I first saw this listing! ’ she says. ‘I’m so thankful all things fell into place and we landed here.’
Melbourne entered its second major lockdown (lasting 16 weeks) just days after Lucienne and Sebastian moved into the home, affording the couple and their English cocker spaniel Bertie plenty of time to get to know their new neighbourhood!
‘We are lucky to have really lovely neighbours who have lived here for over 40 years, and can tell us some of the history of the house and all the people who have lived here,’ Lucienne says. ‘Our house was the first to be built on the street and our neighbours, along with the original owners who built here, brought in electricity to the vacant land together. I love that so much!’
While their previous rental properties have required some personalisation to feel like home, the incredible bones of this place speak for themselves.
‘I’ve always put so much of myself into our rental homes over the years – painting walls, replacing light fittings, scraping glow-in-the-dark stars from the ceiling, planting, and painting again!’ Lucienne says. ‘The space lends itself to our furniture, art and other pieces really well, and I feel like everything found its right spot in the house very naturally.’
Some standout furniture items include prototypes and seconds made by Lucienne’s workmates at Pop and Scott, and art by Sebastian’s dad and other loved ones.
The previous residents of this Knox home lived here for 28 years, and together with the owners, they have ensured it’s been beautifully maintained, and repaired with materials faithful to the original design.
‘I mean, Knox knew what he was doing! We’re lucky that our landlords really care for the property… we often jokingly say “you’ve done it again Alistair” when something functions perfectly, like all the external glass doors folding neatly out on themselves,’ says Lucienne. ‘We’re lucky it’s now the home of our family, and hope to live plenty of life here too.’
