How do you feel about the promo for the finale? Personally, I don't think it revealed anything except maybe that Laura and Shadow will finally part ways and accept the truth that they aren't meant to be. But other than that, nothing. No status on Sweeney except that he is still dead (with Laura over him). Hopefully, they are doing this on purpose, because I feel like if he were gone for good, more of the promo would have been focused on him just being dead. Or not show him at all.

This got a bit long, so I’m putting it under a cut for length as much as for spoilers. Analysis of the preview for 2.08 below, regarding the fate of Mad Sweeney as well as other aspects!

Yeah, as regards Sweeney, I don’t think the promo told us much that we didn’t already know (i.e., he dead, and Laura’s gonna get to the funeral parlor and find out about it). The shot of Laura just standing there looking at the pool of blood… :( The one glimpse of Sweeney we got is a bit interesting, imo, because we can see that he’s been moved to the morgue and is lying on a mortuary table: 

If Sweeney’s gone for good, I’d expect them to hold some sort of wake or funeral for him and presumably to clean him up for that… But in the season promo shot of Laura carrying him down the road, we can see that he’s still wearing the same outfit, bloodstains on his jacket and all. Presumably this means she body-snatches him before any further funerary preparations can be made. Why do that unless she refuses to accept his death?

I do expect him to remain dead for the whole episode, unfortunately, and for at least part of season 3 as well. But, as I’ve been doing for the past couple weeks, I’m clinging hopefully to the idea that Laura’s not gonna let this stand.

And YEAH, I’m actually really excited to see this little cemetery conversation between Shadow and Laura! I’m too sleepy to go looking for it now, but I’m pretty sure there was an interview where someone (Emily?) mentioned something about Shadow and Laura getting closure this season, as well as some other interviews mentioning that Laura’s arc this season is about finding a purpose outside Shadow. Personally, I don’t want Laura to stop caring about Shadow, nor Shadow about her… But I think the show has made it clear, especially this season, that their romantic relationship was built on a very faulty foundation in the first place and cannot be repaired, especially now that so much development has gone into Laura’s individual arc and relationship with Sweeney. Both Laura and Shadow need closure if they’re ever going to move on — to other romantic interests or just in general. 

The one thing about that part of the promo that made me groan a bit was that — at least by the way the footage is edited— it SEEMS to suggest that Shadow saying “I don’t believe you” is in response to Laura telling him Wednesday’s to blame for everything. Which, if so, is a bit frustrating to me, because I’d hoped that the things Sweeney told him during their fight would have more of an impact on Shadow’s opinion of Wednesday! I mean, you’d think he’d care that Wednesday straight-up had his wife murdered in order to get to him, yeah? But my initial interpretation of that dialogue may not be how the conversation actually goes anyway; promos can be edited in such a way that the flow of dialogue isn’t what it seems. So I’m not gonna dwell on that too much yet.

There’s another aspect of the promo that intrigues me, but it involves discussing spoilers from the novel. The BIG kind of spoilers. If you don’t want to read about that, go ahead and stop here.

Ready? Okie dokie, major spoilers from the novel below!

“Shadow’s ignorance gives them power,” Anansi tells Ibis, right after a title card that reads “A REVELATION.” Now, when I think of Shadow and revelations, there’s one big one that immediately springs to mind. Over the course of this season, we’ve watched Shadow come to understand that Wednesday didn’t choose him at random — he has some sort of significance to Wednesday, some sort of value. We also got the flashbacks of Shadow’s mother (discussing the “light” she gave him) and of Donar/Thor, whom Wednesday directly compares to Shadow. All of which, of course, foreshadows the eventual revelation that Shadow is Wednesday’s son, Baldr, who shines with light as from within. I can’t remember exactly at what point in the novel Shadow learns that, though it’s certainly later than this… But all this talk of Shadow’s ignorance, and all this foreshadowing, makes me wonder whether the show might be moving that little plot twist up?

The problem with that, of course, is that I don’t know why Anansi and/or Ibis would know this. Perhaps Anansi is simply referring, more generally, to Shadow’s ignorance about the world of the gods.

Another potential event that occurred to me as I watched the trailer — and again, this would be happening a lot sooner than it did in the novel — is maybe more of a stretch… But the IMDb description says that Wednesday has disappeared, so from the promo I’m guessing that we’ll be seeing him but that he’ll be separated from Shadow and company. Then there’s this shot of what appears to be a sniper:

Is it possible that the show could already be getting to Wednesday’s assassination…? That would be moving things up by a whole part of the novel, and it would be a LOT to pack two major character deaths into the final two episodes of a season, so maybe it’s unlikely. Still, I can’t help but wonder. Either of these two possibilities would profoundly impact the flow of Shadow’s arc, that’s for sure.

Spoilers: Why do you think in 2x07 Sweeney admitted to Shadow that he "fucked [Laura] in New Orleans"? Do you think he did it so Shadow would grow angry and kill him? Thus, fulfilling his destiny (dying in a war). Or was there something else? Exposing his "truth" before he inevitably died?

Good question! I’m not sure if he really wanted Shadow to kill him – I think Sweeney had every hope of coming out of that Wednesday encounter alive, having successfully killed the old man. I think that’s why he pre-arranges a deal with Shadow (”Don’t get in my way.”) and tells him that his battle isn’t with Shadow - it’s solely with Wednesday. It’s only when Shadow reneges on his “arrangement” is when Sweeney knows he’s gotta bring out the big guns.

So, I guess there’s a bit of Sweeney “exposing his own truth” in there, but I doubt it was for Shadow’s benefit. I actually don’t think Sweeney cares all that much about Shadow, only insofar that Shadow’s the poor sap that’s now ensnared in Wednesday’s forever clutches. And I think it’s really BUGS the fuck out of Sweeney that Wednesday is able to get away with so much, right down to having the wide-eyed loyalty of Shadow, a man whose life Wednesday truly fucked with to get him in his grasp. Sweeney might care about Shadow in that he has sympathy for the guy, but if it were between himself and Shadow on the line, I doubt he’d make any kind of real sacrifice that ostensibly puts himself at a disadvantage………unless it serves a higher purpose.

Which is why I guess I’m leaning more into Sweeney trying to expose Wednesday’s “truth”, which, if revealed, benefits both Sweeney and Shadow (in a roundabout-kinda way, lol), which is what Sweeney wants here. That’s why I think he says, “We’re on the same side,” because if we go back in time and think about all the things Wednesday did to Sweeney and Shadow to culminate to that moment, right where they’re standing - each of them a sad, bloody mess - then Shadow would see how absolutely insidious Wednesday is and break Shadow’s loyalty to Wednesday, even if that means throwing himself and Laura under the bus by revealing that he fucked her….because ultimately, THAT wouldn’t have happened if Wednesday hadn’t fucked with Shadow’s life in the first place. And I think that’s what Sweeney’s trying to get Shadow to see…that even though it’s an ugly reveal about him and Laura, and one that will wreak havoc against him, it’s still him setting up a line of defense that could  potentially put some of the chips on his side, namely Sweeney/Shadow vs. Wednesday. And he ALMOST had it. ALMOST. :(

That way the audience at large would have some understanding of who Percy is when (if?) he shows up in the show, and how complicated his and John’s relationship really is/was. AND we’d finally get to meet Von Namtzen too.

I’m all for interpreting things in any way you wish, for sure. But, like, at no point did any of what that moment was described as happen. Like, I guess Flynn is always ‘being the bigger man’ physically? He was standing while Wyatt was sitting loll so....like.... And, he does always seem to be on the side of “Lucy’s a grown ass woman and she can make her own choices” so there’s that. But, as for “being the bigger man and walking away from a tender moment between two characters”?

I haven’t watched Mob City in forever, but I lovvvvvvvvved that show. Jon Bernthal AND Milo Ventimiglia? It was like a dream. I did recently rewatch Angel, though, and she’s Gwen Raiden in that. Electro girl.

It’s definitely Alexa. I don’t know why it isn’t on her imdb page or why she isn’t on Punisher’s imdb page. So episode count ... definitely up in the air.

Happy Final BFSN everyone!!! I don’t know what to say except it’s finally over but this is not goodbye. Tags and explanation below.

Words cannot express  my love for the amazing, wonderful, and truly phenomenal people I have met in this fandom. I have grown so much as a person since the start of this show. I wasn’t fully immersed in the fandom until I think around season 3 but I have watched since day one. The last 7 years have been such a wild ride of joy, heartbreak, despair, and clowning that has happened. We have been through so much together. This last season was not what I was hoping to see. I never expected the connections that I have made here and I can’t regret the decision I made to join this fandom here. I can’t wait to see where everyone moves on with and the things that we create in the future. Also whoever nominated me and voted for me in the BFWA, thank you so much for the confident boost. If the writers are smart, they would continue with the complex relationship between Joe and Juliana (people who seem to run into each other/ are connected to one another in soo many different timelines). What would be the whole point of having Joe be in that other dimension, sacrificing himself because of his love for her if we don't even see him in another dimension (being in love with her)? The only hope that is keeping me sane is this one shot in the trailer of her in a tunnel, like the film

same. i’m sure the sentence "it's okay. trust me" means something. why would he say that? it does not make sense if the writers do not exploit that. i trust them for this season. because all the actors seem to agree; season 4 it's the best season.

After the finale they better tell us whether to have hope or not. Like if people say and the last scene is Laura dragging him off on her back, they better not bait us with his resurrection for a year. They better tell us if he is in season 3

I feel you. I’m really desperate for 2.08 to make it clear whether or not he’s gone for good (hopefully not!!), and oh, it’ll be agony if they leave it vague. I've seen the speculation that Laura carrying him might be his/her last shot of the season; I think that could happen, and personally, I would probably take it as a good sign. Who knows what the context might be when it actually happens, but for now, I’m operating on the assumption that there’d be no reason for her to be taking him somewhere unless she intended to save him. Regardless, though, I’m definitely going to be keeping my eyes peeled for any and all news about Pablo’s filming schedule!

Reading "Finally, a huge thank you to our #GodFather @neilhimself for gifting me this amazing character. I love you and him more than you will ever know…" makes me want to vomit, I want to be hopeful, but usually when actors thank the creator for their character it is often a goodbye... catch me crying if he actually leaves. What do you think of that line?

Hmm…maybe I’m being too much of an optimist here, but all that doesn’t necessarily feel like a solid farewell to me, still. Yes, still. And this could just be me spinning things to fit my own headcanon, but for example, Mousa could’ve said, “This cast will be incomplete without you…” or Kahyun saying, “It was such an honor to work with you…” And it’s not that I don’t think THEY think Pablo deserves all the awards, because he absolutely does, but the cast promoting Pablo’s performance and such a monumental episode for the series is partially par for the course to get more interest towards the series, mostly because he is a beloved character amongst the fandom.

And if we’re to really parse things down to a fine point, with S3 being Lakeside, then technically, it’s most likely true that Pablo’s done working with the rest of the cast outside of Emily, at least for S3. And if the series is only going for 3 seasons, as McShane’s hinted at, then that makes it even “truer”.

As for Pablo thanking Neil, I think it’s along the same lines; it’s nothing he hasn’t said before when talking about what a gift it’s been to play Sweeney…which leads to speculation whether Sweeney is going to even come back as Sweeney, or will he be back as someone different, someone more powerful? I mean, I can even see Future Pablo saying, “Well, technically, I wasn’t wrong in saying I was gonna miss Sweeney, because the Sweeney that we knew is gone…this is Sweeney Not Sweeney, he’s something different now”, which is a little manipulative in hindsight, but it’s all part and parcel with teasing out the dread that comes with something so final as a character death.

We have less than a week now to find out what 2.08 has in store for us, and I think the key really is Laura here and where her arc is going. It’s been hinted at that Laura will have a newfound focus this season, and even though we’ve gotten hints here and there, I think 2.08 is where we’ll finally see that catalyze.

The 100 Final Season Speculation Tag

Thank you for the tag, @bellarkes-hope​! This is fun to think about and I like reading everyone’s answers!

1. Which character are you most excited to learn the endgame of: I’m not sure if “excited” is the word - more like ANXIOUS! Ha! But, no surprise here - I’m most interested in Raven & Murphy’s endgame

2. Which character are you most excited to learn the backstory of: I definitely would love more backstory on Becca Franco, which would then lead to Cadogan & Second Dawn, all of which I’m interested in. But I also want to know what Diyoza’s been up to in the Anomaly. 

3. One character who deserves a new look: Diyoza! Let’s have her come out of the Anomaly (or when whoever goes IN) looking kind of fresh and fancy. Also, same for Indra, honestly! I love Indra’s awesome look but I would not be upset to see her updated for the last season. 

4. Two locations you want to revisit: Becca’s Lab for sure! I find everything there interesting and think there’s a lot more to explore. Also lets go back to Cadogan’s Office/The Office in the bunker - there’s some FASCINATING photos behind the desk and that seal on the wall that MIGHT be “Becca’s Crypt” still seems relevant...

5. Three brotps you hope get more screentime: I would like to see Octavia & Diyoza, Raven & Diyoza and probably Murphy & Jordan (although I was amused at Murphy & Gabriel’s interactions too)

6. Who will get the happiest ending: Oh man... this question haunts me. I don’t know if anyone is going to get to be “happy” but I really would like to see hopefulness at the end of the story. I could be satisfied if Raven & Murphy die as long as they actively choose to die together. Do I want that? Not really, but it would give them autonomy over something that happens to them and characters in this world rarely seem to get that. I would very much like for Raven to be happy but I’m not sure the writers know what that IS for her any longer. A new rando dude that she’s known for 12 days doesn’t feel like happily ever after to me, soooo....

7. Which minor or new characters you want to see more of: I don’t want new characters. Let me say that again. I DON’T WANT NEW CHARACTERS. Yes, I know we’re going to get some but I don’t want to focus on them AT ALL. Now that said - we’ve already got Russell & Diyoza and I think that the two of them going up against each other would be fantastic. Also, give me Becca always and jeez can we get some more Jordan?!

8. Who will eventually snap Jordan out of the funk we see him in, at the end of 6x13: Personally I would like this to be Murphy. I think it definitely needs to be a member(s) of Spacekru

9. Who will be the first to tell Bellamy he can’t immediately run into the Anomaly after Octavia: Well if it happens right away, then probably Echo, since that’s who he was with at the end of s6. But if they go back to Sanctum to report on what happened and how Octavia disappeared, then maybe it could be Clarke. 

10. To reference Monty’s ‘do better’ mantra: Raven would be a good choice, Echo too

11. To say 'go float yourself’: Would love this to be Jordan, LOL

12. Random object or prop you would bring back for Season 7 if you could: Ohhh... well I definitely think we’re going to see more of Becca’s Notebook, and I’m here for whatever esoteric info is in that sucker! Raven is on the case! But also - man man man I really wanna see the tattoos of this world come to MEAN SOMETHING! Lemme see more of Gaia’s Flamekeeper tattoo and how it connected to Titus and the seal in the Second Dawn bunker! Lemme see if the leaf jewel Simone wore in her hair is actually the reference to the Broadleaf clan in Grounder history that I want it to be. I want to know what all those tattoos on McCreary meant and how about Shaw too. I have THOUGHT about this stuff and I wanna know SO BAD! Also - I would NOT be mad to see the soccer ball make yet another appearance! 

13. Book One storyline/reference you want to see back for Season 7: Well it isn’t a broad storyline but I really loved the Raven part of the story where she accepted that Finn wasn’t right for her because he didn’t love her “the way I want to be loved” in 1x10. That was a tough conclusion for her to come to and I really appreciated that she was acknowledging her self worth at the same time she was choosing not to hate Finn or really even to blame him. But since then she’s had a lot of self doubt, hasn’t felt like she’s that worthy of being happy, and has struggled with her capabilities (ie guilt from not being able to get Spacekru off the Ring/being willing to die because of it). Feels like s6 brought so many of the s1 personalities back (yikes) so I’d love to see Raven get her confidence back and recognize that she’s more than worthy. Heck, this isn’t a bad storyline for all the characters, really. 

14. Dead character you would like mentioned: I’m always thrilled with a Sinclair reference, but really Harper and Monty should be mentioned along with the other delinquents who died too. Also it was rad to see Pike in s6 so heck add him in and while I’m at it lets talk about Luna and “it’s not your blood that defines you, it’s your heart”! Hello, that’s relevant with all our new nightbloods, isn’t it?!

15. How do you think Hope and Octavia know each other (from season 6): Definitely seems like Octavia helped raise Hope during her time in the Anomaly. Maybe when Octavia came back to Sanctum, could be that Hope was like 12 or something, so seeing Hope come out of the Anomaly as an adult made Octavia feel so emotional. The idea of Octavia & Diyoza as either co-parents or honestly with Diyoza as pseudo-mom to both of them pleases me. 

16. How do you think it all will end?: I’m struggling not to just post a photo of that dumpster on fire that’s going around about 2020, LOLOLOL. But I mean... I’ve been burned by other shows so I don’t have a lot of confidence here. I’m really hoping for both an ending that feels at least a bit hopeful but also is true to CHARACTER arcs through the series, not simply whatever the plot of s7 turns out to be. Call me Fox Mulder but I WANT TO BELIEVE - I want to believe that humanity isn’t just some plague across the universe. So... I’ll speculate that a group of survivors is either landing back on Earth or at least heading there at the end of the show. I think we need to fix what we break, and of course that means going back to our own planet. This would not be disappointing to me, so maybe the view of a renewed green Earth is the last shot we get, but instead of just being one or two people looking down, it’s everyone who has made it back. I dunno... FWIW I haven’t rewatched shows that have ended poorly, so I hope t100 doesn’t have me abandoning the world they created. 

(Don’t freak fellow Murven fans - I will never abandon THEM! And whatever ending we get, I’m sure I’ll have some stories in response to it!)

That looks like Bellamy and Murphy to me? And the way Bellamy’s looking in he just seems confused, so I’m guessing they have no idea that something bad has happened to Clarke. They just noticed she was missing and went looking for her
