Thinking about how Arizona Robbins (an out lesbian) was only meant to appear in 3 episodes of Grey's Anatomy but went on to appear in 11 seasons, including guest appearances, most of that time being in a relationship with Callie Torres (a recently out bisexual person). On a completely unrelated note, I'm also thinking of how Tommy Kinard (heavily implied to be gay) was only supposed to be in this season of 911 for 4 episodes but has basically been confirmed to be in more, where he is... *checks notes* the love interest of Evan Buckley (a recently out bisexual person). Just a fun little thought 🥰

everyone talks about the drama and angst of greys anatomy but it is legit a hilarious show at times
s7e7 is such a good episode in balancing the two i mean we have the arizona callie africa breakup plot line which is pure angst but then at the same time mark and lexie are just giving a girl a GINORMOUS ass. meanwhile bailey is distraught over the loss of a patient who is the only person who understands what she went through in the shooting and then she goes to confide in derek shepard and he reveals the only thing he does this whole episode is write “Alzheimers is a bad disease. We should cure it.”

Operating Rooms…
Pairing: Addison Montgomery x preg!wife!reader
Summary: jumps around but reader is pregnant and due date is approaching fast, a few scares have Addison on the edge as she can’t imagine losing her wife or her baby. Also part of this is a rewrite of the episode where Derek throws up in the OR with Lexi.
Warnings: mention of miscarriage, blood, vomiting.
Tumblr media
******************************************************** "Suction, There's to much blood in the field." you said as you and Derek operated on the patient.
"We're losing him!, ugh I should've just cut the cord, this is way to risky."
"Derek, just stay calm." you said, you were standing over your patient multiple hours into am exhaustive tumor removal. It was taking a toll on both of you, spending hours on you feet was hard enough but being 7 months pregnant made it even harder, you're muscles were starting to lock up as you fought the fatigue, your body was absolutely exhausted.
"Wait. It's back, He's coming back up." Mark said.
you could hear Lexie ask a question but you were zoning out as relief that flooded your body quickly turned into worry, you felt pain but not muscle pain, something was different, something was wrong.
"Dr. Shepard?"
"My mask..."
"What?"
"His mask, take it off" "Take off my mask, Take off my mask!"
you both yelled in unison, as you quickly realized that something was wrong. she quickly moved his mask as he bent over and threw up on the OR floor. you looked away turning into your arm, Mark saw your reaction looking you over.
"Y/N?" Mark said watching you as you turned to make eye contact with him.
"Dr. Montgomery, y-you're bleeding." Lexi said eyes getting wide with worry. In the midst of everything you forgot about yourself, quickly looking down to see a small stream of red darkening your scrubs, you're hands still inside the patient.
"Someone page Dr. Montgomery, NOW!" yelled Mark before rushing over to you.
"Lexi check on Derek, we need to keep this patient alive." He commanded, within minutes doctors filled the room, Meredith and Callie rushed to help Derek as Addison rushed to your side. As soon as your hands were out Mark scooped you up and rushed you out onto a gurney to get you to OB.
"Addison?"
"Right here Y/N, I'm right here."
"I'm scared..."
"I know, but we have the best." you squeezed her hand as they rushed you down the hall, as soon as you got there Arizona was waiting with monitors. "Okay mama, Let's figure out what's going on."
a few hours later you were in a hospital bed, Addison was next to you as Arizona walked in, "How're we feeling?"
"A little nervous, what's going on?"
"Well it looks like you have a case of what we call incompetent cervix, baby was pushing on your cervix and with the stress you were putting your body through, it cause your cervix to slightly dilate."
"Which caused your bleeding." Addison finished.
"And the baby?"
"The baby is okay, we gave you a slight dose of something to hopefully prevent labor, and we'll keep you overnight... and if it worsens then we can stitch the cervix closed until you go into labor."
---------------------------------------------------------
1 month later and you were back in action, saving lives, performing surgeries. Addison and Arizona had been keep an extremely close eye on you, monitoring work load and the baby.
That is until you found yourself in a very high-stakes trauma situation, here you were standing over a young woman, hand in her chest pinching an artery stopping her from bleeding out. The ER was busy and you ended up in a very extensive case that just kept going south, your patient had extensive bleeding and now you found yourself with a hand inside her chest, and people watching you while trying to keep it together
People were very cautiously and efficiently moving around the room, nobody dared get in your way as you operated. Around the 8 hours mark you started feeling small contractions roll through your body.
"Dr. Montgomery, How're we doing?" you heard chief Webber's voice over the intercom. He had been showing some prospective attendings, and the board around and they decided that watching your surgery was intriguing so you had to put on your best show for them.
"Getting there, How's my ED looking?"
"Clearing out as we speak."
"Good, I'm going to need Dr. Torres and Dr. Sloan in here to help with this repair."
"Paging them now." he said before exiting the gallery. Callie and Mark later joined you in the OR, Callie across from you and Mark next to you being your extra set of hands, after a particularly strong contraction he whispered in you ear, "you okay, we don't need another scare."
"I know, I know..." you whispered back, before returning to the task at hand. 15 more minutes went by, this time you carefully leaned back a wince on your face.
"Y/N, we okay over there?" Callie asked as you readjusted.
"I think so." you shifted around.
"Look if you need to tap out..." Mark started.
"Mark..." you looked at him with your intimidating 'don't start' look, before shifting uncomfortably again.
"Y/N, your out go relax." Callie demanded.
"No I'm not leaving, I'm the only thing keeping this patient alive right now."
"Y/N." she said sternly, a stare-down happening as you were both stubborn.
"Okay, page Arizona... but don't cause a scene..."
She slowly nodded in response, "Can someone page my wife please." Callie said, a nurse quickly going to page Arizona, minutes later she walked in.
"You paged?"
"Yea," she said and motioned to you. Arizona stepped in next to you, "Y/N, you okay?" she said gently, watching the glance exchange between you and Callie.
"I think I might be going into early labor, but I can't move yet cause I'm the only thing stopping this patient from bleeding out... we have a lot riding on this surgery and they're all up in that room watching."
"Okay so we have two options, you leave and let someone else take over..."
"nope."
"Or I can discreetly hook you up to some monitors and monitor baby from right here next to you, but once your contractions get to close I'm pulling you." you looked between her and Callie, "Okay, whatever we have to do, just don't let them see and do not page my wife just yet." you said leaning your head to point at the others in the gallery.
Arizona quickly devised a plan, Webber distracted the investors with a quick tour of the other galleries, before a few intrigued returned, Arizona quickly attached monitors to your belly allowing her to discreetly monitor the baby. Mark stood shielding your occasionally distressed form from peering eyes, Callie covering by having the nurses rotate to distract.
20 minutes later and your contractions were drawing closer, Arizona sat behind a monitor with Ben as he monitored the anesthesia, she carefully watched the monitors whispering soft encouragement as you fought through the contractions. Minutes later the investors exited to continue their tours and Callie paged Bailey who quickly rushed to the rescue, repairing the damage so you could pull your hand out, Arizona came to your side unhooking the monitors and following you out of the room.
you entered the scrub room and immediately caught yourself on the scrub sink as a particularly strong contraction caught you off guard.
"Okay mama, I think it's time to go," Arizona said rubbing her hand firmly into your back to try and relieve the clenched muscles.
"Considering my water just broke that might be best," you said looking down at your dark navy scrubs the liquid creating streaks down your thighs.
"Yea, I can see that." she said following your eyes, supporting you as you tried standing up straight.
"Okay let's do this, and please, page my wife."
"Let's get you out of here first." she said guiding you out of the door.
--- time jump---
You were now in one of the delivery rooms, contractions only 3-5 minutes apart, groaning as another wave rolled through your body. You heard the door latch engage and swing open stark white light flooding the dimly lit room, you could see Addison's silhouette in the doorway as she ran to your side. Arizona right behind her, she had been in a surgery and Arizona had to hunt her down after she didn't answer her pages, pulling her from the OR.
"Y/N Forbes-Montgomery, I cannot believe you."
"what did I do?" you softly whispered.
"operating while in labor?"
"so you heard about that," you chuckled, "whoo..." you left out a small breath as another contraction started.
"Of course I heard about it, I'm your wife, someone's got to watch out for you." she said leaning you forward to crawl in the bed behind you, she leaned you back into her a leg on either side supporting you as you held onto her knee, your other hand in hers, her spare hand wiped sweaty hair from your forehead as you leaned your temple against her face.
"Addi I don't know if I can do this, I'm so tired."
"Darling I've seen you fight through much worse, you've got this, lets meet our baby."
"Mmm..." you whimpered, before gritting your teeth together to start pushing.
2 hours later and lots of different emotions and you held a beautiful baby girl in your arms, she already had a full head of reddish hair, her eyes blue with just the slightest tint of green coming through them.
“You did so good mama, I’m so proud of you.” Addison said, watching you as you held your daughter.
“She’s gorgeous…” you whispered, taking in the lovestruck feeling.
“Just like her mommy’s.” Arizona said coming in to check on you one last time, a bright smile pulling across her face, Callie followed behind to check on you.
“Mm..” you chuckled, “thank you Arizona, for taking care of our girl.”
“Oh you know I would do anything for you, both of you.”
“Well next time a little heads up would be nice, and next time no operating rooms that close to the due date.”
“But…” you whined out, “and who said about next time?”
“Oh y'all make gorgeous and brilliant babies there will definitely be a next time.”
“gorgeous and brilliant, you hear that little one…” you whispered softly down to you baby as she cooed back up at you.
“I’d say if we’re not careful we’re gonna have a world class surgeon on our hands.” Addison beamed down with a smile before kissing your lips.
“Mm knowing y’all’s brains, you’re gonna have genius babies…” Callie said and you all laughed together as they exited to give you the room.
"Hmm are you gonna be a little genius baby?" you cooed down at the infant in your arms, before smiling back up at Addison, she was in awe and placed a loving kiss to your lips.
"So long as they aren't as daring as their mother..."
"Oh hush, it keeps you guessing..." you said teasing back.
"Something like that" she smiled down at you

The shrill vibration of the cell phone made Arizona Robbins abruptly wake from her sleep. She blinked against the darkness that still enveloped her bedroom. In the dim light of the display, she recognized the name of her babysitter, Claire. With an uneasy feeling in her stomach, she reached for the cell phone and answered the call.
"Claire, is everything okay?" she asked, her voice still rough from the sleep from which she had been rudely awakened. "Arizona, I'm so sorry," the woman on the other end of the phone began apologetically. "I got sick last night and have a fever. I can't look after y/n today. I wanted to let you know."
Arizona's heart skipped a beat and she felt worries piling up in her head. A glance at the clock told her that it was just 5:45 a.m. The day hadn't even really started yet, and she was already faced with a problem. "Oh, Claire, I'm sorry to hear that. Don't worry, I hope you get well soon," she said, even though she was frantically thinking about how she could organize this day. She hung up and slowly let the phone sink onto her bed covers.
At that moment she heard the soft patter of small feet in the hallway. The door to her bedroom opened and you stood in the doorway, your hair wildly tousled and your eyes still half asleep with your favorite stuffed animal tucked between your arm and chest. "Mommy? Why are you awake?" you asked quietly and continued on your way to her bed.
Arizona gave a tired but warm smile and pulled the covers aside so you could slip into bed with her. "Good morning, baby," she murmured as you snuggled up to her. "Unfortunately, Claire can't look after you today because she's sick."
You raised your eyebrows in surprise. "And who's looking after me today?"
"Me, my sweetheart. You can come to work with me today," your mother explained to you and watched as your face turned into pure excitement. "Really?!" you exclaimed and sat up, immediately forgetting your tiredness. "I can come to the hospital? With you?"
Your mother laughed when she saw the joy in your eyes and gently stroked your hair. "Yeah, exactly. But we have to hurry, okay? We have a lot to do and you have to promise me that you'll be good."
"I promise! I'll be the best helper," you explained with a serious expression and quickly climbed out of bed.
Arizona swung her legs out of bed and followed you into the kitchen. The morning routine had to be quick and efficient now, but chaos was inevitable - like every morning. While she tried to get the toaster to toast her bagels faster, you rummaged through your drawers looking for your "perfect superhero outfit." Clothes were scattered everywhere as you settled on a blue Supergirl t-shirt that you thought was the best for a "doctor's day.
"Mommy, look, I'm ready!" you stood triumphantly in the doorway and proudly pointed to your shirt dangling over your pajama pants. Your mother laughed again. "That's a great shirt, superhero. But we better put some jeans on you so you look like a real doctor, okay?"
You nodded eagerly and ran to get your jeans. Meanwhile, Arizona prepared you a quick breakfast - pancakes, your favorite food. She knew you had a stressful day ahead of you and wanted to at least make sure you started off in a good mood.
When you were both finally there and the kitchen was - at least halfway - back in order, Arizona helped you pack your bag. "We'll take some toys with us in case you get bored," she explained as she packed coloring books, pens, your stuffed animal Emma and some snacks. "You know I can't be with you all the time because I have to work. But I think some of my friends will play with you if they have time."
"I know Mommy," you replied, now feeling dressed and ready. "But I'm still glad I get to go with you. It's much better than staying home." Your eyes sparkled with excitement and Arizona couldn't help but smile. She knew the day was going to be an adventure for you and she was happy to be able to share this special moment with her daughter.
The drive to the hospital was an endless series of your questions: "Can I say hi to the babies?", "Can I help you be a doctor?", "Do they have super help at the hospital?" Arizona patiently answered each question and enjoyed the liveliness you brought to her car and her heart. Even the early morning traffic and the dark clouds in the sky couldn't take away her joy when she saw your sparkling eyes.
"You know, there are a lot of super helpers in the hospital and you know some of them. Alex, Miranda, Teddy.." she said, briefly looking in the rearview mirror to smile at you. "But I'm glad I have my little super helper with me today." You grinned proudly and swung your legs back and forth.
When they finally arrived at the hospital, Arizona felt a rush of nostalgia as she walked through the doors hand in hand with you. Many of the nurses and doctors who greeted her smiled when they saw you. "Good morning, y/n!" a nurse called when she spotted you.
"I'm my mommy's helper today!" you declared proudly, skipping along beside your mother as she walked through the hospital halls. "I'll be a good boy and help."
Arizona felt your hand firmly in hers as they walked through the busy hospital corridor. She was glad that she had managed to arrive on time despite the hectic morning. Your eyes were still shining with excitement as you curiously looked at the people and sounds around you. "Mommy, are these all your friends?" you asked with a smile as you walked past the doctors and nurses who continued to greet Arizona in a friendly manner.
"Some of them, yes," your mother replied with a warm smile. "But now let's go to my office, okay?"
But before they reached the doors of the children's ward, Arizona heard her name. The familiar voice of Dr. Miranda Bailey echoed throughout the corridor. Arizona stopped and turned around, pulling you closer to her.
Bailey walked quickly towards you both, a medical file clutched tightly in her hand. She smiled down when she saw you. "Well, who do we have here? Good morning, y/n."
You beamed when you recognized Bailey. You had seen her several times before, when she came to the hospital with you or when she came to a party at the house, and you always found the "strict lady" fascinating. "Good morning, Miranda," you replied politely. "I'm my mommy's helper today."
Bailey laughed softly and winked at Arizona. "Oh, I see we have professional support today." Then her expression became serious and she turned back to your mother. "But, Arizona, we have a case I need to discuss with you. It's important.
Arizona noticed the worried look on Bailey's face and nodded. "Of course, what is it about?" she asked, holding your hand and trying to draw her attention to the conversation.
Bailey pulled up the file and pointed to a picture of an ultrasound. "We have a newborn on Ward 4 with a complex heart defect. It's a rare diagnosis and I wanted to hear your opinion before we make a decision." She flipped through the file and explained the medical details while Arizona listened carefully.
"Okay," Arizona said, briefly letting go of your hand to move closer to the file. "That looks like Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. We should think about an operation, but I need to see the exact values to better assess the risk."
While the two doctors were discussing the next steps intensively, your gaze wandered through the corridor. You looked at the colorful posters and drawings on the walls and discovered a large aquarium in a corner of the waiting room. Your eyes lit up - the colorful fish were magically attracting you. Without Arizona or Bailey noticing, you quietly and curiously separated from your mother.
You stepped closer to the aquarium, her eyes fixed fascinated on the small bubbles that rose up and the bright colors of the fish. "Oh, that looks like a rainbow," you murmured to yourself. You completely forgot that you were supposed to stay with your mother.
Arizona, meanwhile, was still deeply engrossed in the conversation. She discussed the different options and risks of the operation, while Bailey nodded in agreement and asked additional questions. For the two of them, it was a normal day at work - a critical case that required full attention. Minutes passed as they went over the notes and diagrams in the file.
Only when Bailey glanced at her watch did she realize that she and your mother had been talking for a while. "You know what, Dr. Robbins? We should discuss this further in your office before the surgical schedule for the day is full," Bailey suggested.
Arizona nodded in agreement. "Good idea," she looked around to bring you back to her. "Y/n? Come here, we'll go to my office."
But no child's voice answered her. She turned on her heels and looked down the corridor into the ward, her eyes searching for you. "Y/n?" she called louder, but the familiar, happy face was nowhere to be seen. Bailey frowned and looked around too. "Where did she go? She was just here."
Arizona's heart began to beat faster. She hadn't taken her eyes off you for a second - at least she thought so. "Y/n!" she called again, her voice now more clearly colored with concern. She took a few steps in the direction she had last seen you walking, but the hallway and the waiting room were empty.
"Okay, wait. Maybe she's just nearby," Bailey tried to calm your mother down, but there was also a hint of tension in her eyes now. "We'll look around and ask the staff."
Your mother nodded, but her mind was already racing. You were curious, and the hospital was big - there were so many rooms you could have gotten lost in. She called out to you again as she continued to search the flood. She quickly turned to a nurse who was hurrying past. "Have you seen a little girl? Supergirl shirt, light jeans and colorful sneakers?"
The nurse shook her head. "Sorry, Dr. Robbins. I didn't see her, but I'm on the lookout."
Arizona thanked her briefly and continued walking while Bailey contacted security on her cell phone. "Missing child in Ward 2. Please keep an eye out, about nine years old, wearing a Supergirl shirt." Then she turned back to the blonde doctor. "Give me two minutes, and if we don't find her, we'll trigger Code Pink."
Her heart was pounding. Her hands were shaking as she continued to run through the halls, looking into every open space. She knew a Code Pink was a serious measure - it meant putting the entire hospital on alert to search for a missing child. But every second that passed made her fear grow.
It was a maze of bright lights, rushing footsteps, and constant alarms. Arizona felt her breathing become shallower as she and Bailey hurried side by side through the pediatric ward. Every step echoed in her ears, and the watch she wore on her wrist seemed to tick her fear away with every passing moment. Where could you be?
"Y/n!" she called again, but the only answer was the monotonous beeping of the machines and the murmuring of the nurses tending to their little patients. Her hands were sweaty as she opened door after door, hoping to see her daughter's familiar shaggy head. But each time she found only empty rooms or bedbound children staring up at her with wide eyes.
"Arizona, stay calm," Miranda said, her voice firm but not unkind. She knew how hard it was to suppress the panic. "We're searching everything systematically. She can't have gotten far."
But she couldn't stay calm. Every room they searched without success made her heart grow heavier. What if you were lost? What if you got into one of the elevators and ended up somewhere else in the hospital? Or worse, what if someone had taken you? Her mind raced, and she felt tears welling up in her eyes as she forced herself to stay focused.
Miranda gently touched her arm as they entered another room. "Look at me, Arizona. We'll find her." But Bailey couldn't quite hide the worry in her eyes either. For a moment their eyes met and she saw the hint of concern that Bailey was hiding behind her professional facade.
"I... I know," she whispered, but her voice was weak. She had to stay strong. For you.
As they continued down the hall, they heard the loud clatter of metal carts and a group of doctors came towards them. Arizona gently grabbed the nearest nurse by the arm. "Have you seen a little girl? Supergirl shirt and light-up shoes? Nine years old?"
This nurse also shook her head. "No, I'm sorry, Dr. Robbins. But I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I find her."
Arizona nodded gratefully but didn't let up and turned to Bailey. "We need to search the intensive care area. She could have gotten in there without realizing it."
Miranda Bailey nodded as she headed for the intensive care unit. Her pace quickened, her mind racing. The thought of having to trigger Code Pink was terrifying. It was a measure used only in extreme emergencies, and she could feel the panic building within her. But what else could she do if you didn't show up soon?
She and Bailey worked their way through the ward, looking into every room, every patient room, but no one had seen you. Arizona felt the chill of fear spreading in her stomach. She was really close to setting off the alarm when she suddenly stopped.
Something stopped her in her tracks - a soft sound, barely audible over the bustle of the ward. A soft, happy giggle reached her ears, followed by a voice she knew all too well. Her eyes widened.
"Wait," she whispered to Bailey, her voice barely more than a breath. "Do you hear that?"
Bailey put her finger to her lips, closed her eyes and tried to focus on the sound. The giggle repeated itself, more clearly this time, and Arizona couldn't believe it. She knew it was your laughter - a sound she would have recognized among thousands. She turned, saw the nondescript door of the storage room in front of her.
"In there, but how did she get in there?" Arizona asked quietly, her eyes fixed on the door. Her hand turned to the doorknob, her heart pounding in her chest. Bailey stood close behind her, her expression focused and attentive before she pushed the handle down and slowly opened it.
The door swung open and Arizona caught a glimpse of the scene beyond. In the small room, surrounded by shelves filled with medical supplies and cleaning supplies, Alex Karev sat relaxed on the floor. You stood in front of him, laughing and clapping your hands, while Alex, with exaggerated seriousness, presented a syringe without a needle and a stethoscope as "super doctor equipment".
"Hey, Dr. Robbins," Alex said when he saw Arizona. He grinned widely as if nothing had happened. "I saw her walking around the children's ward alone. Thought I'd better bring her here before she really disappeared."
Your mother felt tears well up in her eyes and relief hit her like a wave. "Oh my God, Alex, thank you! I... I didn't know what she was like and I was so scared..."
Arizona dropped to her knees and pulled you tightly into her arms. "Honey, you can't just run away," she whispered and hugged you tightly, not hiding the tremor in her voice. "I was so worried."
You looked up at your mother, confused. "But mommy, I just wanted to look at the fish... and then I saw Alex!"
Alex shrugged. "Well, I thought she might need a little company before she could possibly get to other wards. So we practiced playing super doctor a bit." He smiled at you and winked. "But next time you'd better stay with your mom, okay? There are so many exciting things here that it's easy to lose track."
She looked at Alex with a look that expressed gratitude and relief in equal measure. "I really don't know what I would have done without you. Thank you for finding her."
Alex stood up and dusted the dust off his pants while grinning broadly at you. "No problem. Plus, it made me feel like a hero again."
Bailey stepped closer and put a hand on Arizona's shoulder. "Well done, Karev. That was the right decision." She smiled slightly and then looked at you. "And now, little lady, you'll always stay with your mother."
You nodded eagerly. "I'll stay with you, Mommy. I promise." You gripped her hand tighter, as if to show that you really meant it. Your mother stroked your hair gently. "That's good, honey. Now we'll go to my office and make you comfortable there, okay? No more walking around."
As they set off, Arizona felt relief in every step. The lump in her throat dissolved, and for the first time that day she could breathe again. She was grateful - for Bailey, and especially for Alex. Her colleagues were her family, and today they had proven once again that they were there for each other.
As they left the children's ward, she looked over her shoulder and saw Alex going back to his tasks. She knew she still owed him something, but right now only one thing mattered: she had you safely with her again, and everything else could wait.
