I should probably be less vague about how this works. 

I’ve established Jael and Ofydd are puppet monarchs but never really estabished who was pulling the strings, or why.

House Undermoor or whatever I briefly called them when they were still relevant- They were overthrown when by a band of anarchist Houseless folk who wanted to disrupt the system by stealing The Corded Tapestry (This is the Monarchy McGuffin that allows you to rewrite the rules of glade magic, I was previously calling it just The Cord but that’s confusing since the society of houses is also called The Cord) and they succeeded when Queen Pavora was in the process of moving it to a safer location. House Sinistra was partially involved in that their spies are the ones that learned that the Corded Tapestry would be on the move and tipped off that rowdy group of upstarts. House Sinistra didn’t expect them to succeed- they simply wanted to test Pavora’s security measures for future reference, and also it would provide distractions enough to cover their spies sneaking around keeping watch for where the Corded Tapestry would be laid to rest

. So like the whole process of Pavora being dethroned was sort of a fluke (though Pavora hubris contributed) 

House Sinistra spies were not prepared for a mission to steal the Corded Tapestry from the Houseless thieves- Like it was probably just 2 guys standing by to observe. So it’s just chaos trying to catch up to the one thief that actually managed to grab the Tapestry, meanwhile there’s still a bunch of unorganized thieves contending with Pavora’s small outfit of guards, and then there’s some that just chicken out and take off in a random direction. The Tapestry ends up in the deep woods with a couple thieves and one of the Sinistra spies, but the thieves and spies never make it back to civilization. 

So after all this the only people who know the Tapestry is missing are House Sinistra and House Undermoor, and some of those Houseless theives suspect its missing but have no way of confirming. Houses that might catch on to this knowledge through these thieves include House Cygnus (Through Benoit, who spends a lot of time among the commonfolk) and House Aresca (As a House that would have a good information network) but this would not be until much later. At this point Pavora rightly assumes other Houses were in cahoots with this attack and thus determines her position is no longer secure. She disperses her vassals to go to find safety outside the glade and goes into hiding in the woods. And here we’ve caught up to the “Pavora and Etana are simple farmers now because they’ve had just about enough of this political crap”  canon

So, throne is empty. House Sinistra takes advantage of the knowledge they have to scour the forest for the Tapestry, but they turn up empty handed. Later House Aresca scouts are found searching for it too, so Sinistra knows the secrets out. House Sinistra strikes up a bargain with House Aresca- Until the Tapestry is found, together, they have the credibility to prop up a puppet monarchy and just tell the public that the Tapestry was obtained by these fake monarchs. While neither House intended to give up on finding the Tapestry, this deal would keep the other Houses from searching for it in the meantime. While they Houses don’t really trust each other, it was more sensible and efficient to let a 3rd party be the face of monarchy than it was to scrabble for power before the other Houses got involved. Both Houses prefer a long term game, and this plan enabled them to scheme a little longer.

House Phaerakesse, previously just a House focused on the performance arts, was a shocking choice as far as the public was concerned, but both Houses Aresca and Sinistra had good report with them, and both knew the family would take this role seriously. Phaerakesse was not an ambitious House- They have always been driven by the love of their craft. They were perfect puppets even if it would be absurd to try to explain how they obtained the Tapestry from the previous queen. (They ended up telling various tales about this transfer of power, each more different and more absurd than the last. Eventually people stopped asking how.)

So who is pulling the strings? Reina of House Aresca, and Impatiens of House Sinistra. While they do have some rivalry, they are actually quite agreeable partners in this case. Both want House Phaerakesse to be sucessful figureheads as a way of maintaining stability within the glade, and to be leadership figures for external diplomacy.

so I better run down a little more about Siroc to get my thoughts in order and also so whatever prose I come up with for a lore story for him isn’t bogged down in sorting out how the fuck this works.

So the glade is warmer than the rest of the icefield, yeah? But its still pretty wintery by default. This was still pretty good compared to the frozen hellscape that is everywhere else in ice territory, but House Aresca wasn’t content with that and basically they are responsible for creating seasons within the glade. 

Uh so the rest is under the cut, and I’ll tell you now House Aresca is not kind to Siroc. Mentions of torture under the cut but no extreme details

Seasons do occur naturally but with as weird as the glade is, changes were very minimal over the year, and any periods of measurable warmth were short-lived. House Aresca, and we’re talking ancient House Aresca, new House Aresca, House Aresca before their lineage was cursed - they were the ones who were dedicated to finding a way to eke all they could out of the seasons and make crop growth more viable. A lot of this happens during a time of particularly dire famine or illness, and having a long growth period for certain plants would save a lot of lives.

They got their start developing standard wind magic analogs and various kinds of flight magic and attempting to alter air currents, bringing in warmer air and forcing the weather to be more mild. This was a lot of work and often didn’t yield enough to justify the mana put into it.

So off they sent one Aresca heir, back home to Wind territory proper, courting outside help. If some experts could use wind magic to direct air current from outside of the glade, the wouldn’t need to consume much if any mana for it. (Aresca probably tried this with their own people but being used to glade magic, they’re definitely not very good at wrangling their natural wind magic, definitely not good enough to bend wind currents to their will)

They make a plea to windsinger but get Siroc instead, practically a lesser wind deity. Honestly these goings on are really beneath deific creatures but I imagine it’s a situation where Siroc was getting really uppity, too big for his britches, and Windsinger sent him on this petty mission to either temper his ego or maybe just get him out of his hair because Siroc was really harshing his vibe.

Siroc drops into the glade. Because the null magic zone is created by a deity’s power, Siroc, being a deity (though a lesser one) isn’t quite beholden to the same rules as the glade. His power is a bit dampened but he can still cast spells in the glade, which is unheard of. Siroc works with House Aresca trying to help them with their goals of tampering with seasons & weather, but ultimately gives em the bad news of: Sorry this is just unfeasable for you mortal wimps so just give up.

And the current Aresca head, ballsy as fuck, is like “no why don’t you stay and do it for us”

Ofc siroc’s gonna be “Haha no???”

But like House Aresca wasn’t actually giving him the option and they fucking locked him up in their proto-vault. And this is probably also motivated by spite because Siroc is not nice to them at all during his stay and probably actively besmirched them all the time, just overall being a bad PR person for the Windsinger, ALSO out of spite. It’s a big spite cycle.

Aresca starts a) developing security magic to keep Siroc from  bustin’ loose and b) studying how to use Siroc’s innate magic to make their damn seasons change.

Oh, and House Aresca’s decendants start becoming sickly purely from Siroc’s magic spite

The process certainly goes through a lot of iterations, but the current form of their season changing process is absolutely encrusting Siroc with spells that will cause his wings to wither slowly while he is away from the vaults, and when the wings are wilted away, then the body starts to suffer too. It’s fuckin nasty. This is some Cruciatus Curse shit. While Siroc’s in his vault room, though, he’ll regenerate. So basically they’ll let him just fly free whenever they need to change the seasons. Siroc will return if he wants to keep living. Or if he doesn’t want to keep living, his wings will fall apart within a couple days and some House Aresca guardians can go fetch him.

Siroc could just straight up refuse to change the seasons, though being a wind deity (particularly, one presiding over warm winds) just from moving around it’s generally enough to spur weather changes, and even if he cooperates minimally, Aresca’s wind mages can kind of sort out the rest of the wind currents after Siroc has moved a few of them just by existing outside of the vault.

so uh. yeah its. really fucked up. House Aresca has a nasty history and right now Reina’s perpetuating it. If I ever get into anything with Ayeris, maybe she’ll be the one to steer this ride to dragon hell off course

“Uh, anybody tuned in? I don’t know what that explosion was, but uh. Not great news.”

The words stumbled through his lips, and he cast a glance to his side. The silence was unbearable.

Playing with his fingers, Chad closed his eyes waiting for a response. When only static could be heard, he grimaced, impatient.

“Av–”

A cold metal pressed to his temple. Chad swung around in shock, gaze flitting to a tall woman. The air around, tightened.

“Hello?” The voice was drowned by the static.

But Chad could only stare at weapon pressed on the temple. The silver lines swirling the barrel.

He shut his eyes, sweat beading his forehead.

He swallowed. “Avem!”

A silence passed, before the voice responded. “Who are you?”

Cold. Chad swallowed. That wasn’t the Avem he knew. His gaze lifted to the bone-chilling figure.

The woman raised a finger to her lips., her face twisted into a sneer. Grabbing his arm, she dragged Chad from the seat.

“Hello? Hello?”

“I’m not dead.” He whispered, as he allowed the woman to drag him away.

To think he’d come so far and failed. But if there was anything he wanted to do, it was to find Avem. No matter what it took.

“Now listen to me, boy.” A smirk played on her lips. She looked down, scrutinising him. “You’re going to help me.”

Chad froze. She was going to say it. She was going to say it.

“I want you to kill Avem.”

Her stiff voice filled his mind. Kill him. Chad sucked a breath. Everyone was after him.

“You know him best. And I,” she leaned close. “I can pay you. I know what you want.” She pointed to the battered ship. “I mean, look at this! Disgusting!”

Chad clenched his jaw. “Never.”

“I wasn’t asking.“

“Who are you?”

“Yu.” She took a step back, a sick smile plastered on her ghastly face.

“How did you get here?”

“Lets just say, I’m not real.”

And she faded, leaving behind only a wisp of blue.

Grana (At) si trasformerà in un banco d’assaggio tutto dedicato al Grignolino: i produttori presenti direttamente e disposti lungo il Corso Garibaldi, animeranno le degustazioni raccontando il territorio ed i vini in degustazione.

Una speciale enoteca raccoglierà le etichette di altre aziende in modo da offrire uno spaccato significativo sulla produzione in Piemonte.

Uno spazio sarà riservato ai prodotti e ai piatti tipici, presenti: la Pro Loco di Grana e la Pro Loco di Montemagno, che prepareranno alcune specialità creando un menu da gustare in abbinamento alle degustazioni del Grignolino.

Non mancherà l’intrattenimento musicale a cura di B-Side.

Nell’ambito del programma dell’evento, Go Wine promuove un tasting, riservato a quanti intendano approfondire le loro conoscenze sulla varietà e sui diversi stili di produzione.

Il tasting sarà condotto dal giornalista e degustatore Lorenzo Colombo.

La degustazione guidata è su prenotazione e a favore di coloro che partecipano come pubblico al banco d’assaggio.

Yuna of House Aresca is for sale!  Sold!

Yuna is the second child of Reina, the Head of House Aresca. Though the family is typically of terribly ill health, Yuna is just healthy enough to tolerate travel. She has been sent out to seek a marriage partner that would benefit House Aresca. 

Yuna is still quite frail, therefore never travels alone, and always in a manner that is untaxing and comfortable.

while we’re talking about deities and elemental themes and duality and that general area

some Houses I made a very conscious effort to pick spell specialties that were unexpected or opposite of what you’d think for their element. I think Aresca is the most demonstrable House in this regard because it’s the Wind house, yet they are very much immobile and restricted. You’d never peg the House that has the most secure vaults, an army of guardians, and just every defensive spell in the book as the Wind House. But it still ties back to Wind in that they’re housing the minor deity Siroc in their territory, and the heirs all have these mangled wings.

hmm what other houses did I fuck around with the themes for...

House Luzuri is the divination house? Divination is more in the realm of Water, maybe Light and Arcane, so you wouldn’t really expect Ice dragons to have mastery on it. However, in an unforgiving climate, magical foresight can make a situation survivable where it would normally kill the unprepared.

House Sinistra still plays into Plague themes through their ruthless attitude and ability to somehow stay on the upper echelons of society no matter how many other Houses rise and fall. Their magics don’t really have anything to do with disease / healing / survival though. uhh uhhmm maybe because Aresca had the health magic on lock down it just wasn’t viable to go that path with magic, so they, like any good plague dragon would, adapted. By coming up with a line of spells both unique and extremely useful in a variety of ways.

House Atreas is probably the most straightforward in their themes. They are the living embodiment of nature reclaiming a space that was marred by civilization. It’s just in practice, that makes them mage killers / anti-mages which is not the first thing I would think of for a nature faction.
