I recently reread an older piece of mine and was struck by how fantastically self-flagellating one of the main characters was for making an (admittedly terrible) choice. Not only does he not let up on himself, but neither does anyone else. I remember being terrified at the idea of being cancelled because a made up man did a made up bad thing, and felt I had to appropriately punish him for doing The Stupid Thing so that a potential audience would feel his behavior had been addressed.
I spend a lot less time on the internet now. I write and draw more and I care less about what somebody looking at it thinks. Rereading something from an era of terminally online behavior is absolutely batshit wild. I sat there like “dawg we got it you messed up” and “okay POINT TAKEN, moving on.”
That book would have been a lot better if I’d just let him make the asshole move and have consequences and move the fuck on. If I rewrote it now, it would read a lot differently. Some people are just fucking dense. Some audiences will look at a fictional man making a fictional bad choice and fail to realize it’s fiction.
I wish I could tell my past self to just make it the way I wanted and not worry about anyone else
fuck an "intended audience" how about we normalize engaging with new and unfamiliar art pieces on their own terms

Hi Nova, how are you doing?
I was just curious if you might be interested in an idea for agathario x reader.
Where they find the reader who’s battling with a bad injury/infection with a high fever where the reader thinks they’re hallucinating Agatha & Rio being there.
Cause let’s be honest they’re both hot ladies so who wouldn’t hallucinate about them 😏. It’s fine if you don’t like or want this idea I just wanted to check in with you.
Hallucination
Pairing: Agathario x reader Warnings: Talks of death, poison, Hallucination, fever, blood A/n: Hello! Im doing good. I apologize that this took so long and that its super short. Writers block has been a bitch recently and im trying to get past it. I hope you enjoy <3
Tumblr media
The forest floor was cold and damp as you lay on it. Your clothes were ripped in places and nasty cuts littered your body. The cuts were oozing puss and other liquids as the weapon that had been used was poisoned. Your whole body shook with fever ridden chills as you stared up at the trees and sky. It was hard to say how long you had been laying there after being attacked. You could swear that you felt death creeping up on you. That any time now your tired eyes would flutter shut and you would transfer to the land of the dead.
The sound of leaves crunching caused your eyes to snap over to the noise. Sure that whoever had attacked you was coming back to finish the job. Looking over you found a pair of piercing blue eyes staring down at you. She looked like an angel. Her hair framing her face as she inspected the wounds on your skin. Your eyes followed her movements as she looked behind her and suddenly the air was knocked out of you. Stepping forward was what you could only describe to be a goddess. Her brown eyes looked at you as she tilted her head. You were sure you were dead now. You had to be. The browned eyed goddess stepped closer to you as she got down on her knees beside you.
“Rio?” The blue-eyed girl said as she watched the goddess - Rio - lift your arm where the worst of the cuts were. She ran her finger lightly over the cut collecting the liquid that dripped from it. She brought her finger closer to her eyes and sighed.
“Poison. I can heal the cuts but we’ll need a potion for the poison.” Rio’s eyes went from you to the other woman as if she was asking her what she wanted to do. The other woman stayed silent as her face scrunched up as if she was thinking. “Agatha.” RIo voice was soft as she spoke to the woman. Her hand still held your arm. Her fingers slightly rough to the touch. You still weren’t convinced any of this was real. Certain it was the poison taking effect. Agatha’s eyes looked away from Rio as she looked back at you. She watched the way your eyes seemed to droop more with each passing minute and the way your body was shaking and sweating.
“Heal her. I can brew the potion at home.” At her words Rio leaned down. Neither of them had even addressed you yet but it didn’t seem that they were going to for a while either. A small scream left your throat as a wet tongue ran over the cut on your arm. Your body stiffening before relaxing. Agatha was quick to sit at your other side and cover your mouth as she hurriedly glanced around. “Rio hurry we can’t be out here with them any longer” Rio’s actions quickened at that. You weren’t sure exactly who they were but you could only assume it was related to the person who did this. After all your cuts had been healed Agatha picked you up in her arms. Your body limp as blood started leaking out of your nose. Another side effect of the poison. As they started walking your eyes fluttered shut.

How to NOT write like Vivziepop guide!
Writing tips:
1. Don't treat SA/Rape as a joke. Seriously, it shouldn't be that hard. EX: In Helluva Boss; Spring Broken, Moxxie goes to talk to Verosika and her crew in hopes to get them to move her car. He gets SA'd as a result and we're supposed to see that as a joke.
I don't specifically remember the episode name, but Sir pentious asks Cherri if she wants to have sex with him but he then gets scared/nervous and says "BECAUSE I WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH EVERYONE!!" or something like that. He then gets taken by a bunch of people into a room and he CLEARLY looks uncomfortable. Again, I suppose we're supposed to see that as a joke for some reason.
SA/Rape isn't funny, and you can offend tons of people writing it so carelessly. DON'T DO THAT!
2. If your characters come from a certain era, RESEARCH THAT ERA. Ex: Alastor was supposed to be a famous radio host in the 1920s (seeing as he died in 1933) when he was alive despite being a mixed (Black and white) man. Jim Crow laws existed in those times so Alastor couldn't have become a popular radio host unless he was white passing, which we don't know. Also, from what I got from @bump-inthe-night the first black radio personality in Louisiana was Vernon Winslow, known as Dr. Daddy-O, in 1949.
Also, from @bump-inthe-night - (her words were pasted here because I couldn't have said it better myself) Despite dying in 1947, Angel overdosed on PCP. This drug was discovered in 1926, and it started being utilized as a general anesthetic in the 1950s. PCP became a street drug in the 1960s and gained popularity in the 1970s. It's impossible for Angel to have overdosed on this drug when he was alive. RESEARCH. BEFORE. YOU. WRITE. THE. CHARACTER.
This is also from @/bump-inthe-night. Sir Pentious died in 1888, but he’s wearing a shoulder-padded suit. Shoulder pads, invented in 1877, were used in football uniforms. They didn’t cross over into fashion and become popular until the 1930s. Sir Pentious shouldn’t be wearing a shoulder-padded suit, and neither should Vox, who died in the 1950s, when this started falling out of style.
3. Don't victimize characters that obviously shouldn't be victimized. Example: Stolas.
I will tag the people who inspired this post and paste their stuff here because they say these things better than me.
@flower-boi16 says "So fucking what if Stolas was neglected as a child or had a mean wife? How does that relate to ANY of his actions he takes throughout the series??? It doesn’t excuse SHIT. Granted, the “this character’s trauma is not an excuse” argument is a kind of argument I’ve grown to be annoyed by due to how often it gets misused. Yes, a character’s backstory or trauma doesn’t excuse or justify their actions.
The issue arises though when the character’s bad actions are a direct response to that trauma and so it can make it look like your just ignoring major context for what lead to the character doing these actions just so you can label them as irredeemable. With Stolas, however, I have no hesitation in saying that whatever backstory and trauma he may have I genuinely don’t care because that trauma doesn’t matter to ANY of his actions.
The “his daughter doesn’t like him” defense doesn’t work because 1. Octavia is shown to still care for her father and is actually shown to be excited to spend time with him in Seeing Stars and 2. Octavia has a perfectly valid reason to dislike Stolas given how shitty of a father he is to her.
The “Stolas is well meaning/believes that Blitzo likes being treated like a sex toy” defense also doesn’t work when Stolas can very clearly see that Blitzo does NOT like being treated that way. Ffs Blitz was completely shocked and disgusted by Stolas’ sexual remarks on him on the phone in Loo Loo Land, Stolas can clearly see Blitz DOESN'T ENJOY THIS but continues flirting with him anyway. Anyone who is well-meaning can still see when they fucked up."
@floralcavern "Stolas is the epitome of writers thinking they wrote a deep character when they actually created the most shallowly written character of all time. Stolas receives no consequences, no call outs, no growth, because he gets the excuse of ‘he’s abused’ to not have to face anything bad happen to him. It’s infuriating how shielded he is by the writers."
4. Understand what your writing! This is also from @/floralcavern and I couldn't agree more. "And Helluva Boss didn’t need extremely deep characters. It started off as a comedy, where characters could do messed up, edgy shit because nothing is meant to be taken seriously. But then suddenly the show decides to become a super serious, soap opera drama?? It completely derails its original premise to be something completely different. The beginning of Helluva Boss and what we currently have are 2 completely different shows. And I’m not saying comedies can’t have depth. One of my favorite examples is Dan Da Dan! It’s literally a show about a guy whose dick was stolen by a ghost. And yet, the show writers know how to balance ridiculous comedy and storytelling with genuine, human moments. But Viv’s shows don’t have that balance. The show is hardly a comedy anymore and takes itself way too seriously, while also refusing to acknowledge actual things that need to be acknowledged."
5. This should be obvious but don't make male characters (or any characters for that matter) that are supposed to be gay call their sisters "hot" or "Sexy". Example: Andrelphus or whatever his name is. It comes off as extremely gross and really unnecessary. Vivziepop said he does that to make others think he's straight?????...Andrelphus was literally in the pride parade art. WTF VIV?!
So yeah, don't do that unless it's relevant to the plot. Like the characters have a secret incestual relationship or the incest is being pushed/forced onto the other sibling character or SOMETHING! And no, before you say it, Stella never looked comfortable being called attractive by her own brother.
5. Don't fetishize rape or have/hire people that work under you that do. It's as simple as that.
6. When writing serious topics such as SA, TREAT THE TOPIC SERIOUSLY!
youtube
7. Be mindful of stereotypes. I've learned (with the help of others pointing it out) that Angel Dust is a stereotype of gay men.
8. Call out your characters for their actions. Angel is shown to sexually harass other male characters with no call outs or apologies. Same can be said for Stolas.
I'm not sure of what else to add. If anyone else wants to add something, feel free to comment or reblog. Your words will help others a lot!

Party Banter with Rook!Blackwall
Harding: You know, for a moment back there, I thought you might actually get through to Solas.
Thom: Regret’s something we have in common. I thought… if I reached out to him, told him I understood what guilt drives you to do…
Harding: But no. ‘Do not compare your regrets with mine, Thom Rainier!’
Thom: He’s right, though. He can at least say he did his crimes trying to stop tyrants. I did mine for coin.
Harding: Uh, yeah, and then you faced up to it and decided no one else was going to get hurt for it except you. Solas is right. He’s nothing like you.
Lucanis: Do we have a problem, Warden Rainier?
Thom: You kill people. For gold.
Lucanis: I do. Venatori. Blood mages. The political rivals of those who hired me.
Thom: And that’s enough for you? Someone flashes a purse, and you’re ready to murder over some nobles’ spat over which of them gets the bigger fancy house?
Lucanis: Depends on the size of the purse.
Bellara: Um, so, about the mayor of D'Meta's Crossing? I just… do you really want someone like that? In the Wardens, I mean.
Thom: I won’t defend him. But he wouldn’t be the first Warden who let innocent people die for gold, and got another chance from the Order.
Bellara: He doesn’t deserve it. Like, really, really doesn’t deserve it.
Thom: No. Neither did I.
Thom: Do you ever get people trying to bribe you? To look the other way, or drop a case, or...
Neve: It's Minrathous. If I took even half the bribes I've been offered, I could buy an estate in Hightown.
Thom: It takes a special kind of strength to resist that.
Thom: I got a letter from Sera the other day. Don’t ask me how she got it to the Lighthouse.
Harding: ‘Friends’, I bet. And hey - she dealt with the Fade for you! So what'd she say?
Thom: Well, there was a lot of calling Solas a shite-faced arseknuckle. And then she told me not to get killed, or she’d yank my beard ‘til my head came off.
Harding: Aw.
Lucanis: Rainier, I do not knife civilians. Everyone I have killed has been embedded in politics. Their hands are never clean.
Thom: And you're sure you’ve never made a mistake? Never got a passer-by or a child caught in all the blades and arrows? Never gone in without knowing everything, and got someone hurt?
Lucanis: Of course not. I’m a professional.
Thom: You’re a mercenary with a cape.
Thom: You could’ve left Dock Town. A mage. Talented. You could’ve gone anywhere, chased a better life.
Neve: If I left, I’d be abandoning people who never got that choice. I’m good where I’m at.
Thom: I hope you know how admirable that makes you.
Neve: Not that admirable. If I got that estate in Hightown? Too far to walk to Hal’s fish stand.
Thom: (laughs) Good priorities.
Davrin: So, Rainier. Heard a lot of rumours about how you joined the Wardens.
Thom: (uneasy noise) You know, Warden Blackwall told me your past gets forgotten after the Joining.
Davrin: A nice ideal, but it never stands up to the gossip. But you’ve shown your worth.
Thom: Enough for me to have one of those griffons when we rescue them, d’you reckon?
Davrin: (laughs) We’ll see.
Thom: I knew someone like Manfred once. He was a spirit, but he sort of… grew his own body.
Emmrich: Oh! A spontaneous incarnation! Do you happen to know what kind of spirit he was?
Thom: Uh… the kind that looks like a young man, but reads minds and flits about trying to make everyone feel better about themselves?
Emmrich: Ah, Compassion! A rather more advanced emotion than Curiosity, and therefore capable of manifesting a physical body, rather than needing to adopt a vacant one.
Thom: More advanced? Right. That explains why Cole used to talk to me about living with the weight of regret, and Manfred spent ten minutes yesterday poking my face to see if my beard came off.
Neve: So, you know Dorian?
Thom: Does anyone who’s been in the same room as him for thirty seconds get a choice about knowing Dorian?
Neve: And didn’t always get along, I take it.
Thom: He’s… he’s not so bad. We might’ve judged each other by first impressions back when we met.
Neve: And what’s your impression now?
Blackwall: Still too fancy for his own good. But it says exactly who he is that he’s fighting against slavers and blood mages. I think I got the better deal with the darkspawn.
Taash: I heard the Inquisitor turned into a dragon.
Thom: No, she… didn’t. But she did get one to fight with us once.
Taash: She did? What kind? How’d she do it?
Thom: Sort of… gold? And she drank from this pool of elven magic, and… that somehow let her ask it to help us. I think.
Taash: Did she ride it into battle?
Thom: Uh… No.
Taash: Oh. I would’ve ridden it into battle.
Thom: Emmrich, do you know what those demons were the other day? The ones that wouldn’t leave me alone?
Emmrich: Ah. Those were manifestations of Shame. A variant of the Despair spirit.
Thom: Right. Don’t know what I expected.
Emmrich: If it’s any consolation, I find that one can tell much more about a person from the more benign spirits that gather around them. I catch glimpses of them about you often. Valour. Fortitude. Honour.
Thom: I hope to be worthy of them.
Thom: Lucanis, have you ever regretted any of your kills?
Lucanis: Not so far.
Thom: So this is what you’re fine with being? A man who takes nobles’ money and lives in luxury with your bloodied hands? That's the life you chose?
Lucanis: Not ‘chose’, exactly. It is what I was trained to be since my childhood.
Thom: Wait. You were – who trains a child to be an assassin?
Lucanis: You met my grandmother.
Davrin: You held up pretty well in the last fight, Rainier. For an old man.
Thom: Whelp like you’d better watch what he says around a senior Warden.
Davrin: Why? You’ll tell me to do the fifty press-ups that your creaky bones can’t handle?
Thom (laughs) I’ll stop letting you borrow my best chisel.
Bellara: Hey, um, Thom? You know that little rocking griffon you made? Could you make, I don’t know, a bigger one? Like… adult… person-sized?
Thom: (chuckles) You never have a rocking griffon growing up?
Bellara: No! They’re not a Dalish thing! Because you can’t really rock. When the aravel’s moving, I mean. So… no, it’s a dumb idea. Forget I said anything.
Thom: You want me to make it a rocking halla?
Bellara: Yes please thank you.
Emmrich: How far you must have travelled, with both the Inquisition and the Wardens!
Thom: I like being on the road. Keeps a man honest.
Emmrich: I rather envy your fearlessness of the wider world. It’s so recent that the end of the Circles allowed me to travel freely outside the Necropolis.
Thom: Must have been freeing. Having the whole world suddenly open to you.
Emmrich: And rather overwhelming, I must admit. When I compare myself to you – a brave Warden, combatting the Blight across all of Thedas…
Thom: Trust me: compare the two of us, and that’s the only way I’ll come out better from it.
Thom: We fought quite a few dragons in the Inquisition. Almost got eaten once by some pissed-off beast in the Hinterlands. Kept throwing its dragonlings at us.
Taash: Fereldan Frostbacks are crappy mothers. First sign of trouble, and it’s ‘here! Take my children!’
Thom: (laughs) The worst was the lightning-spitter off the Storm Coast. Spent twenty minutes hacking away at its scales, rest of my team unconscious on the ground.
Taash: Wait - you what? That's not how you fight dragons. You can't just stand there and hit them. That's stupid. And boring.
Lucanis: It’s how the Crow Houses work. Children of the House lineage are trained from our infancy.
Thom: Andraste’s fucking tits.
Lucanis: It’s necessary. If Illario and I had been coddled… Caterina pushed us hard and young, because she wanted us to survive.
Thom: I don’t… (sighs) The things people do to children.
Harding: I never thought to ask - how come Varric changed your nickname?
Thom: I asked him to go with something else. 'Hero'... that was a name he gave to Blackwall.
Harding: Well, he chose the right name. You know, 'cause Rooks move in straight lines. And you charge right in there, don't mess around with fancy words, just hit things til they drop. You could say you're -
Thom: Don't do it, Lace.
Harding: Straightforward.
Thom: (chuckles) You're as bad as Sera.
Emmrich: Master Rainier, I wanted to say – I hope you know that you’re the only person here who looks at you with any harshness.
Thom: I – (sighs) You don’t know everything about me.
Emmrich: I would never claim to. But I know that you place yourself before your allies and the defenceless without hesitation and with utter selflessness. I know you understand your Warden oath better than many of your superiors. I know that you are a good man.
Thom: … I wish I knew what it was like to be you. Seeing the good in everyone, living or dead.
Emmrich: Then I hope you’ll permit me continue to see the good in you – until you can see yourself as I do.

#literally this is the thing!! #Dean has not explicitly said the words ''please stop leaving'' #but he has tried very hard through his actions to express that #AND!!!! CRUCIALLY!!! BECAUSE DEAN IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY GOOD VERBAL COMMUNICATOR!! #he has ALSO!!! verbally expressed his desire for Cas to stick around using OTHER words!!! #not as explicit as ''please stop leaving and stay with me'' but absolutely conveying the same sentiment #what the hell do you think ''we're stronger together'' and the whole ''cursed or not'' speech were about???? #like Cas needs it to be more clear than that to Get It bc he does not understand how his constant absence HURTS #but Dean does not want to BE more explicit than he already is #bc he feels like he's been VERY direct on the subject already #he literally told Cas he needs him. TWICE. and has prayed that he needs him there with them at least once that I can recall #Dean thinks he's been EXTREMELY explicitly clear already!!! #and that Cas is constantly leaving bc despite hearing Dean's tacit request to stay Cas is REFUSING that request and doesn't WANT to stay #he keeps asking and getting rebuffed WHY would he be louder and needier about it when he thinks all it's going to get him #is the emotional equivalent of a slap to the face? #in no universe is Dean going to ask for something louder when from his POV he's already been begging for it and being refused like???? #this is one of those cases where neither of them is actually doing anything wrong #Dean is communicating perfectly fine it's just Cas is autistic and missing some subtext #Cas isn't wrong for prioritizing his missions when he doesn't understand that Dean wants him there as much as he wants to be there #they're just talking past each other and a deeper conversation or two would fix this problem for them #they just don't realize that conversation is necessary #bc Dean thinks he's been heard and understood and Cas is politely declining his request for more time together #and Cas is unaware that that's something Dean has been asking for at varying volume levels for years #and instead bc of his trauma feels compelled to ''earn'' his place in the family with feats of strength so to speak #no one is at fault for their emotional needs not being met it's just a miscommunication #unfortunately the fandom focuses super hard on only one part of that equation and thus the takes on it are so often Bad™ #and ignore Cas's motivations and role as a complex actor with his own trauma and emotional issues and blind spots #anyway they're losers I adore them both <3 (via @ilarual)
on a realer note i do think people forget that a huge part of the destiel equation is that cas won’t stay. like yeah we focus a lot on the fact that dean won’t ask him to, but cas never sticking around is a huge factor there

Kid Named Finger - j.o.
Jenna Ortega x fem!reader
y/n: "50 cheese?! 🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀"
Jenna: "If you don't shut up right now."
Summary: Jenna Ortega is showing you Breaking Bad for the first time and you keep annoying her whenever the memes show up.
a/n: super short, but silly fic for you guys :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I crawl under the blanket, my skin soon touching Jenna's as she holds me. Despite me being taller than her, she loves being the big spoon.
Jenna introduced me to Breaking Bad recently, and I think she's starting to get annoyed at me quoting the memes as they show up.
Jenna kisses the back of my head. "Ready?"
I nod, causing Jenna to reach over me for the remote instead of asking me to grab it.
We're watching the screen, neither of us making a noise. A car pulls up in front of Jesse's house, revealing a new character. He was a bald older man, but I recognized him.
I point to the screen. "It's kid named finger." I say with a gasp.
"You did not just say that." Jenna says with a fake annoyed tone.
I pause the show before I turn around to face her with a serious expression on my face. I start to speak, trying to do an impression of the character on screen. "Waltuh, put your di-"
Jenna puts a hand over my mouth, interrupting me. "Oh my God shut up." She says teasingly.
I feel a mischievous smile creep up on my face before I lick her hand. She quickly pulls her arm away. "Ew! Y/n!" She shouts before rubbing her hand on my face.
She accidentally pushes too hard, causing me to fall off the bed. The thunk of my body hitting the floor echos on the walls of our room. "Y/n are you okay?!" She peers over the bed to find my figure laid barren on the floor.
I turn to face towards the ceiling, meeting Jenna's gaze with my serious one. A smile tempting to form at the corners of my lips as I do the same impression as before. "Put your dick away waltuh."
She looks at me with an unamused look, clicking her tongue before speaking. "Right, get back up here."
She grabs my arm, pulling me back onto the bed.
More episodes passed, his name never getting revealed. I only refer to him as 'kid named finger', and it's clear that Jenna is unamused. I can't resist annoying her.
It has now been thirteen episodes since his character was introduced, still no name. We watch as he enters Sauls office, Saul is laying on the ground in some sort of massage thingie. In the dialogue, Saul refers to him as Mike. Finally giving him a name.
I turn to Jenna again, my mouth agape. "Kid named finger's name is Mike?!"
She gives me another unamused look for a moment. "Yes, his name is Mike." She says flatly.
I turn back around before murmuring to myself. "Alright class, today we're going to finger paint." A smile creeping onto my face. "Kid named finger."
I feel a sudden pressure on my back as Jenna pushes me off the bed again.
a/n: hey guys! I've been procrastinating on writing because I just finished breaking bad and el camino with my partner and it's the only thing on my mind, so this is what you get :p
I'll get back to writing 'past lives' and 'look who's inside again pt 2' soon I promise lmao

DC Creature Commandoes- Trauma vs. Justice (spoilers!)
I just got done binging the current episodes of Creature Commandos, and at risk of painting myself as some sort of high-brow snob, I think the writer, Mr. James Gunn, has done some pretty genius work. Now, I'm no media critic, and not nearly as media-literate as I should be at my age, but I am a trauma survivor; and the thing that I've noticed about this series is that the main cast- Nina, Dr. Phosphorous, The Bride, Weasel, and GI Robot- all have flashback scenes that, while providing a reason for A.R.G.U.S. to imprison them, are far less focused on that than the characters' trauma. Amidst the gore-splattered scenes of carnage, we get flashbacks to the deaths of friends and loved ones, dreams unattained, and in the unique case of The Bride, pursuit by a suitor she does not want. It's all set up in a way that makes us feel bad for the Commandoes- and of course my ever-mounting hatred for Amanda Waller helps in that cause. What it does NOT do is use that trauma to justify their actions. Dr. Phosphorous is pictured to have slaughtered a crime lord and his family, and taking his throne in order to live a life of hedonism. Frankenstein is seen to have killed multiple people he knew and had meaningful relationships with in cold blood, as soon as they became an obstacle to his all-consuming quest for The Bride. The Bride slaughters indiscriminately, and without qualms, making several allusions to the inferiority of human beings (though I'm not arguing with either of her sets of guns- insert obligatory character design nosebleed. Come on, it's tumblr.) The Weasel is capable of no more than base cunning, with his only interactions being comprised of incentivized behavior- play a game, have a treat, act in the interest of more games and treats. None of this is disputed. No attempt is made to justify it. Yes, they killed. Yes, they will again. No, it is not right or good. And in a medium where storytelling so often defaults to 'if there is a reason, it must be justified', it is a breath of fresh air. Being traumatized does not make anyone's actions excusable. The characters are monsters, and the show expertly explores how they got there- what makes a monster in the first place. No amount of past abuse towards a sexual assailant, a neglectful parent, or an unhinged killer can wish away the consequences of their actions. Neither the narrative nor the characters ever once speak up to say 'this isn't fair.' Because it may once have been unfair- but they are not the same anymore, not the victims anymore. Apologies for the essay, my friends! A good evenoonlighting to you all.

Whatcha angry abt on stancest, Max?
ok. my evil dark confession is this: i do not care for a lot of dark!stancest content.
9/10 times it feels ridiculously out of character, which is bizarre because stan and ford both have traits that could easily turn them villainous.
stan’s got unrelenting devotion towards ford, protecting him pretty much whenever he can, working for 30 fucking years to bring him back. stan’s also got a rich and vibrant criminal past — of course, being a criminal doesn’t make you a bad person, but when you’re surrounded by criminals for decades, you’re gonna get a bit desensitized to violence.
ford, on the other hand, has like. the Perfect abuser mentality of “everything i do is right bc i am the main character”. ford will do stupid, bad things, things he’d rightfully call others on — and he won’t even realize he’s doing anything bad. bc he justifies it to himself. sure, if someone ELSE did this, it might be bad, but ford’s got reasons xyz, so it’s fine and good.
yet. in spite of this. a massive amt of dark!stancest content does not tap into any of these traits in any meaningful way!
half the time it’s literally just. stan or ford (mostly ford) doing horrible fucked up shit to the other for seemingly no reason other than they want to do it. that’s a massive wasted opportunity and also not in character??? stan and ford rarely do Big Important Things just cuz they’re Like That. ford justifies it, stan gets caught up in his emotions, but it’s hardly their default!
i also feel like a lot of dark!stancest stuff puts in noncon w 0 consideration to the characters’ mentalities. neither ford nor stan are the kind of person to just. like. rape someone out of anger. or because they’re really horny. like — i know i mentioned stan getting caught up in his emotions, but stan’s a very self-sacrificing person. he’s not gonna fuckin’ molest ford in the night to deal w his brocon feelings he’s gonna sadly masturbate
more commonly, tho, ford’s the rapist — and that’s where this really bugs me. because there is a REALLY OBVIOUS WAY RAPIST!FORD WOULD WORK. if you’re gonna write rapist!ford, you’re gonna have have justify it to himself:
they either deserve it (and, no, this isn’t just “god i’m mad at my brother i have to rape him” — it has to be something extremely serious! i remember seeing someone mention filbrick molesting ford, and ford raping stan later on as a sort of “oh, you think YOU’VE had it bad?”. it’s not perfect — but it’s still better than just “grr angry”) or they secretly want it so it isn’t actually rape.
and it bothers me so much bc it often ends up feeling like noncon is just added to make it Darker and Edgier and Sexier with 0 actual care given to the characters. you can make shit darker and edgier if you want! but it has to FIT. it has to WORK. you can’t just completely derail the characters???
tl;dr: a lot of dark!stancest stuff completely ignores the characters’ actual personalities and ways of thinking for Dark Edgy Stuff and it is annoyinggg like in theory i LOVE dark!stancest but in practice i’m stuck going “he would NOT fucking do that”

Could you do platonic! Tomura Shigaraki x child! reader where he discovers a young girl (a bit younger than Eri) who has the power of Collector (she permanently gains and becomes immune to any Quirk she comes into contact with, for example when she came into contact with Shigaraki's Decay, she now also has Decay and it won't work on her)?
Hey there! I really loved this idea ngl had something fun writing it! I hope you like it^^
A New Chance
Tumblr media
Characters:
• Tomura Shigaraki A cold and volatile villain with a destructive Quirk and a deep hatred for heroes. Beneath his violent exterior lies a man scarred by a traumatic past. His unexpected connection with Lila forces him to confront feelings of responsibility and protectiveness he didn’t think he was capable of.
• Lila (OC) A five-year-old orphan with a tragic past. She is sweet, curious, and emotionally fragile but possesses an unexplained resilience that draws Tomura in. Lila’s innocence and trust challenge the hardened villain’s worldview, creating a bond that neither expected.
• League of Villains (Dabi, Toga, Spinner, and others) A chaotic and dangerous group of criminals who reluctantly accommodate Lila. Their interactions with her range from amused fascination (Toga) to wary indifference (Dabi), adding tension to her new life among them.
Trigger Warnings:
• Child endangerment: Portrayal of a young child in precarious situations with dangerous individuals (L.O.V.).
• Death and grief: Discussion of the loss of Lila’s parents and her processing of the trauma. (And a bit of Shigaraki's Trauma ig)
• Violence and destruction: Depictions of the aftermath of violent battles and the dangerous nature of Tomura’s Quirk.
• Emotional vulnerability: Exploration of trauma, loneliness, and the fragile connection between Lila and Tomura.
• Morally ambiguous relationships: The dynamic between a villain and a child raises questions of ethics and safety.

Tomura Shigaraki hated detours. He hated wasted time, especially after the disaster that today had been. The heroes had interfered with their plans again, and his irritation bubbled under the surface as he trudged through the ruins of a crumbled neighborhood. The cold night air bit at his skin, making him pull his hoodie tighter over his head.
It wasn’t the first time he’d walked through the wreckage left behind by so-called heroes, and he doubted it would be the last. Still, something about this place felt… different.
He stopped abruptly when a soft sound caught his attention—a hiccup, maybe, or a sniffle. His crimson eyes narrowed as he scanned the rubble.
Nestled between two large pieces of collapsed concrete was a small figure. A child.
The girl couldn’t have been more than five years old. Her tiny frame was engulfed in an oversized, torn sweater that hung limply off her shoulders. Her face was smudged with dirt, and her big, tear-filled eyes peeked out from beneath a curtain of messy hair. She clutched a stuffed rabbit to her chest, its fur matted and one ear missing.
Tomura frowned, his fingers twitching at his sides. “What are you doing here, kid?” he asked, his voice harsher than he intended.
The girl flinched, her grip on the rabbit tightening. “Hiding,” she mumbled, her voice trembling.
“Hiding from what?”
She sniffled and pointed at the collapsed building behind her. “The bad people… and the fire.”
Tomura followed her gaze, his sharp eyes taking in the charred remains of what was once a home. The building had collapsed completely, leaving nothing but rubble and ash. He didn’t need to ask what had happened—heroes had probably been too late, as they so often were.
“What happened?” he asked, crouching down to her level despite himself.
She hesitated, her small hands gripping the rabbit tightly. “Mama and Papa… they didn’t get out,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “The big man said the heroes would save us, but… they didn’t.”
Her words cut deeper than Tomura expected. He stared at her, trying to ignore the strange, uncomfortable feeling creeping into his chest.
“What’s your name?” he asked after a moment.
“Lila,” she said softly. “Who are you?”
“Tomura Shigaraki.”
Her little brow furrowed in confusion. “Are you a hero?”
The question made him bark out a bitter laugh. “Not even close.”
She tilted her head, studying him carefully. “But… you’re not yelling at me. And you’re not leaving.”
Tomura stared at her, unsure how to respond. He should leave. She wasn’t his problem. And yet… he couldn’t bring himself to turn away.
“Do you have a Quirk?” he asked, changing the subject.
Lila blinked, confused. “I dunno. Mama said I didn’t have one yet.”
His frown deepened. Something about her was… off. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“Come on,” he said abruptly, standing up.
“Where?” she asked, her voice small and hesitant.
“With me,” he said. “Unless you want to stay here and wait for the bad people to find you.”
Her eyes widened, and for a moment, she looked like she might cry again. But instead, she scrambled to her feet, clutching her rabbit tightly. “Okay,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
She reached for his hand, her tiny fingers curling around his. Tomura stiffened, his instinct to pull away overridden by the realization that his Decay hadn’t activated. He glanced down at her, his mind racing.
When they arrived at the League’s hideout, Lila was practically glued to Tomura’s side. Her small hand refused to let go of his, and she trailed after him like a shadow, her wide eyes darting around nervously.
“What the hell, Shigaraki?” Dabi drawled, raising an eyebrow as he leaned against the wall. “Didn’t know we were running a daycare now.”
“She’s staying,” Tomura said curtly, not bothering to explain.
Toga’s eyes lit up as she bounded over to Lila with a wide grin. “Oh my gosh, she’s adorable!” she squealed. “Can I keep her?”
“No,” Tomura snapped, pulling Lila closer.
The girl buried her face in his leg, clutching his pant leg tightly.
Spinner frowned. “And why exactly are we babysitting?”
Tomura shot him a glare. “Because I said so.”
Lila peeked out from behind Tomura, her voice muffled as she whispered, “Is this your house?”
Toga giggled. “Something like that, sweetie.”
“Do you have food?” Lila asked, her stomach growling audibly.
Tomura sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Spinner, get her something to eat.”
Over the next few days, Lila clung to Tomura like a lifeline. She followed him everywhere, her small hand always reaching for his whenever he moved. If he sat down, she was immediately in his lap, her rabbit nestled between them.
At first, it annoyed him. He wasn’t used to having someone so close all the time. But gradually, he found himself… tolerating her.
“Why do you scratch your neck all the time?” she asked one day, looking up at him with curious eyes.
Tomura froze mid-scratch, glaring at her. “None of your business.”
She tilted her head, unfazed by his sharp tone. “Does it hurt?”
He blinked, caught off guard. “No,” he muttered.
“Good,” she said simply, leaning her head against his arm.
One evening, as she sat in his lap drawing on a scrap of paper, Lila looked up at him with a serious expression.
“Why didn’t the heroes save Mama and Papa?” she asked softly.
Tomura’s chest tightened. He didn’t have an answer—at least, not one she would understand.
“They’re not as good as they want you to think,” he said finally.
She nodded, as if that made perfect sense. “I don’t like them,” she said. “They’re liars.”
For the first time in years, Tomura felt a strange, unfamiliar warmth in his chest.
“Don’t worry, kid,” he said, his voice low but firm. “They won't be there for long, i'll make sure of that.”
Lila smiled, reaching up to pat his face with her tiny hand. "Thank you. You’re a bit scary, but you’re not bad.”
Tomura stared at her, the weight of her words settling over him. She didn’t know it yet, but she was far more dangerous than he could ever be. And he would make sure no one took advantage of that.

It would be nice to hear from Wanda and Cosmo! It is kind of nice that you guys have two children like your own family does. Are you two still close to your siblings? Wanda has a sibling and Cosmo also have a sibling just like Timmy and Peri. Do they share some sibling stories to your children?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wanda and Cosmo both reconnected with their siblings shortly after having Peri. Or, well. More like Blonda reentered their lives once she realized she had a baby nephew. Eventually, they slowly patched things up the more Blonda came to visit Peri.
Schnozmo was dragged back kicking and screaming. Mama Cosma refuses to have her sons live estranged lives now that she has a grandchild in the picture. Schnozmo doesn't know how to handle children, but he's doing his best.
Peri likes Schnozmo because he makes silly noises and funny stories. But he prefers Blonda's theatrics much more and loves playing Dress Up with her.

Every now and again I wonder if maybe all trans people face roughly the same amount of bigotry and one just gets more attention, but then i have to read terf posts and.
wow.
obviously every group of trans identities faces their own struggles and unique oppression but there's this incredibly vitriolic kind of hatred reserved for transfems and its sickening.
#ramble#trans#i have a lot of thoughts about terfs i wrote them down somewhere at some point but really theyre just misogyny all the way down#transmascs are poor misled little meow meows who dont realize they just have internalized misogyny. transfems are the embodyment of all evi#nonbinaries are... not talked about. because they ruin the bioessentialism if you think about it critically#to be fair any amount of critical thinking ruins bioessentialism#if gender isnt a social construct why do different societies have different versions of gender. do you never sit down and think for a momen#and like so much of the ideology is wasted hating individuals rather than the actual systems that produce them.#the sex worker thing pisses me off so much. how can you claim to protect women while you shit on the most vulnerable.#“sex work bad because no woman actually wants to do it” like even if that were true (it isnt) the problem wouldnt be sex work#the problem would be capitalism and people having to do things they dont want to make a living.#dismantle capitalism not gender neutral bathrooms#being a man isnt genetic and neither is being evil. the former at least has a genetic predisposition.#whether some people are born evil is like a massive philosophical debate on top of the socio-biological#and like. dont you have anything better to do in your feminism?#like actual problems to fight rather than someone down the street? what progress are you hoping for here?#were losing access to reproductive rights but hoo boy good thing we get to share a scapegoat with our oppressors? really?#theyre not gonna give you equal pay just because you refuse to engage with biology past the 6th grade.#actually im pretty sure we already covered some rudimentary sex/gender stuff in 6th grade but my school mightve been an outlier#definitely compared to the us school system but whatever the point stands#crimes against the gender convention#long ramble in the tags apparently#transgender#queer

honestly it's been really healing being back to actively contributing things and writing out thoughts on tumblr the last week or so, because while twitter tends to be easier for me to write out Thoughts on without getting overwhelmed, the environment in the twitter fandom circles i'm interested in is not only infested with antis but cliqueish in a way that is caustic to the fucking soul if you try to express a thought that's more than three sentences long--a hundred times over if you're autistic in slightly the wrong way--and it's incredibly reassuring to come back to an environment where the very kindest and most inclusive people toward you are not clearly thinking the r-slur the entire time they interact with you lmao
#whosebaby talks#took an incident of just open petty cruelty the other day for me to finally go#you know what all of this is doing a huge number on my self-esteem and scrupulosity and social anxiety and mental health overall#sometimes it pays to hold out and give the benefit of the doubt#when your knee-jerk reaction is to think something Must Be a Sign of Shitty Intent; bc often it will turn out that wasn't the case at all#but unfortunately sometimes it turns out people are in fact just being shitty in exactly the way you thought they were#and at the *very* best you are incompatible in such a way that if they don't have bad intentions you're just never going to be able to tell#or well. not even necessarily bad *intentions*; just shitty behavior that's harmful to you regardless of whether they mean well#sometimes you just gotta accept that even if neither of you *is* being shitty it's not worth your peace of mind to never be able to confirm#and it's better to just save both of you the stress and not try to pursue that.#it fuckin sucks when it's people you think are cool and really want to get to know; it's a hard lesson to learn; but it's the way sometimes#......and then sometimes the confirmation you finally get is that yeah okay this is some bullshit#and not in a way that can likely be communicated past; no matter how much effort you make to be kind; clear; and mature#and being publicly humiliated for carefully trying to yes-and some clarification on meta of mine#which was being used in ways i was deeply uncomfortable with; and had had no warning would take the turn that it did#and which was contributing to the original post gaining traction in the first place#all targeted in ways pretty much tailor-made to hurt someone with specific issues they had seen me talk about + acknowledged#was just. yeah i think i'm done here lmao#i am Not someone who takes down meta once posted#so the fact that it was bad enough to make me delete an entire thread really says something lol#anyway. lots of other context there; and i appreciate that in some ways the person was genuinely trying to be kind; but i'm. yeah.#that shit Hurted Extremely; and made me realize that while i'm not the *most* well-socialized or articulate or approachable#there is just something in the water over there and no amount of The Problem Not Being Me would have mattered#and the nice asks/replies/comments i've gotten both recently and during hibernation make me feel warm inside; thank y'all <3#the salt files#bullying cw#ableism cw

again and again i find myself lamenting that audio roleplay isn't taken more seriously by some people. like yeah, they often have a romantic element, and by nature they usually directly involve/address the listener- and i totally get that those things aren't to everyone's taste. no art or entertainment is universally appealing, and that's okay! but.. it still makes me a lil sad that the "cringe" reputation of asmr/audio rp precedes it. there's a whole lot of talent and creativity being poured into these audios by so many people that i feel goes unrecognized and/or disrespected simply due to the medium that the stories are being told through.
#this post brought to you by: me bingeing Sam & Darlin's entire storyline over the past few days and having a Lot of feelings abt it#asmr#audio roleplay#rp audio stuff#redacted audio#anyways i don't have a conclusion to this post. and i'm not Mad or Upset or anything i'm just thinkin' out loud#and i mean it's not like it doesn't get plenty of praise within its respective audience bc it does. at least for the more popular creators#but i feel it'll still always have the shadow of its cringe reputation looming over it#which makes it hard for some ppl to openly appreciate or share with others that aren't already fans of the medium#like do u know how many comments i've seen along the lines of 'this is great but i'd die if anyone knew i liked this kinda stuff' ?? :(#idk maybe i feel strongly about it bc i'm a self-insert fanfic writer. and i feel like the two have a lot in common. including a bad rep.#like. not every audio will be well-written or produced and neither will every fanfic. but that doesn't mean it's a less legitimate artform#and i'm lucky to have never (yet) received negative comments on my work. but that doesn't mean that it doesn't make me sigh when people-#-say shit like 'this reads like fanfiction' as a way of calling something bad. or other similar sentiments that make the same implication#and i wouldn't be surprised if audio creators feel the same way when they encounter certain comments or statements#like. those YT videos where ppl will 'try bf asmr for the first time' or whatever and it's just 20 mins of cringing and over-reacting? eugh#tbf i haven't watched many bc why do that to myself. so Maybe there's some that are respectful but still. imagine getting roasted like that#and yes yes i know that by posting stuff online you're inadvertently sighing up to be criticized by Anyone but still. man. i dunno#i'm going on a tangent but my point is. i'm grateful for the creators that still make their art in spite of the public's perception of it#bc some of the most impactful emotional experiences i've ever gained from fiction took place in audio rp and i'm so serious abt that.#anyways. this post almost feels like i'm 'making up a person to be mad at' but i promise it's not that serious i'm just yapping. mostly.#certainly not trying to start any kind of debate or anything either i just have a lot of fixation-induced energy and nowhere to put it#this is Eric's fault (/lh) for cooking Sam up in a lab catered exactly to my taste and making Darlin' waaaaay too painfully relatable#but it's also My fault for bingeing the Inversion /and/ the Quinn arc /and/ the Summit all within a couple days. but i can't help myself#feels like i've run an emotional marathon. triathlon. The Emotional Olympics if u will. i'm feeling Everything#who knew that beating the shit out of ur fictional abuser could feel so goddamn cathartic! it's a nice replacement when u can't do it irl#anyways i'm off on a tangent again. thanks for coming to my TED Talk i'm gonna crawl back in my hole now#actually i'm gonna go relisten to a few audios. as Research for my Sam & Darlin' playlist as well as a post i'll be making about it soon#u Know i've got it bad when i not only make a playlist but start Posting on here about the songs that remind me of them. i'm cooked guys.

top 5 great moments in otherwise dogshit shows??
HMMMMMMMMM this is hard because when I don't like a show I usually just stop watching it lol. But I did make an effort to watch Every Single Heisei Rider (yes ik I still have to watch Kuuga and Hibiki didn't have good subs when I decided to do this) and more or less succeeded and did not have a good time with a lot of them so Here. Perhaps some controversial takes incoming lol
Yuto and Deneb's tearful lil hug and make up was very cute even if I loathed basically every single moment of Kamen Rider Den-O. (<-guy who is completely immune to manzai comedy to the point of actively disliking it.)
the whole Onari and Javert plotline in Kamen Rider Ghost was really cool and honestly I wish they cut like 90% of whatever the fuck else was going on with Makoto and Alain to follow them a bit more. Like, a goofy-ass monk rehabilitating a born soldier who thinks he has no purpose but to serve a genocidal prince... chef kiss
Magical Girl Beast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kamen Rider Wizard
ok so Kiva is objectively awful in over 9000 different ways HOWEVER basically every scene with Otoya and Jiro is gold and the famous bathtub scene especially. I'd also posit that Kiva has some really great fight scenes as well despite the suit nearly killing Takaiwa lol
Tumblr media
I was going to include Gaim here too because I hated Gaim but I genuinely can't think of a moment in it that I liked that wasn't just "looking at Takatora" which I don't think necessarily counts as "great moments" so much as "great casting". Well what is tokusatsu for if not eye candy for boylikers

It's always weird when people are like, "Oh, you being [x minority] made me stop hating/reconsider my bigotry toward [minority]!"
Not only is it weird from the standpoint of "wow, you hated me?" but it's weird to know that you displayed some type of behaviour that proved your humanity to them, and that if you stop displaying that behaviour for any reason, it's possible they'll just slide back into their hatred because they haven't fundamentally challenged why they hated you and your people.
It's fine to grow out of your bigotry, yes, but I'm completely understanding of people being weary of those who are so brazen about how much they hated people like you.

Louis Unreliable Narrator Rant
It rly does piss me off bc some ppl with 100 percent sincerity refer to Louis as “a liar”.
What does Louis ever lie about???
(besides armand/rashid but a. obvs that was an armand decision since armand is The Canonical Liar even though ppl don’t always act like it for some reason, and b. that doesn't concern Louis's veracity in telling the story of his past cuz armand/rashid is in the present)
Anything Louis gets “wrong” about his story are details he’s suppressed due to trauma/misremembered/or interpreted differently from others ("lestat") due to his state of mind. None of these things are lying. Unreliable narrator does not mean LIAR bc thats not how stories work. MEMORY IS A MONSTER is the tagline of his story. MEMORY IS A MONSTER - You FORGET, it doesn't. Not "MEMORY MAKES YOU LIE ABOUT THINGS" or "LYING IS A MONSTER" or "LOUIS LIES A LOT AND LOVES IT BC HE'S A MONSTER"!
~Louis' more prominent discrepancies:~
-Was it raining: He doesn't remember. Not a lie
-Claudia's reaction after Lestat's "death": Louis is demonstrably traumatized by the attempt to kill Lestat and has repressed some of the aftermath of that night due to that trauma. He literally doesn't remember Claudia's objections/choking her. When Daniel points out that she sounds upset with him in her diaries, those memories come flooding back - as we see in little jarring bits of flashback. Those jarring flashbacks are Louis REMEMBERING WHAT HAPPENED. If Louis was purposefully "lying" those flashbacks wouldn't resurface in that way: the show is (very effectively) presenting that information in the same way you would be confronted with a traumatic memory. Louis is visibly rattled by this and has to run and kneel in his traumagarden to process this bc HE LITERALLY HASNT PROCESSED IT BC HES BEEN REPRESSING IT FOR 80 YEARS Not a lie
-Could Claudia dream or not: She wrote in her diary that she couldn't and he believed her. Not a lie
Then the trial flashbacks
(For the sake of argument I’ll assume "Lestat’s" versions of events we see flashbacks of in the trial are more accurate depictions than Louis’ original descriptions bc that is essentially the way they are framed and Louis tells Daniel to use that version in the book)
ALTHOUGH IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE: THESE ARE ALSO A PART OF LOUIS’ DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS!!!! Lestat is not present at the interview, Louis is. Lestat is not turning to the camera and breaking the fourth wall to tell us his version; Louis says that as Lestat spoke he felt transported back to those events and was seeing them differently. That's why we see them in flashback. We cannot have a true flashback from Lestat's perspective in s1-2 bc Lestat is not here to tell his story (and it would break the entire structure of the show). Any flashback we see is Louis' recounting. In the case of the trial, Louis is literally recounting Lestat recounting a version of events that Louis is then recalling and processing with added context (this show is a mindfuck).
So even the more “”TRUE”” version ppl like to use as evidence of Louis’s “”lies”” is also coming from Louis!!!!! Louis is the one correcting his own account!!!
The show is built around Louis telling Daniel/the audience his story. Anything we see of the past storyline (New Orleans-Paris) comes from Louis's mouth or Claudia's diaries (and sometimes Armand). Lestat is not a part of any of this. People who frame Lestat is some truth-teller revealing the "REAL story" behind Louis's "lies" is forgetting that Lestat is not part of the interview. Any ""truth"" Lestat tells is coming from LOUIS.
Some quotes from 207 bc I don't have a disc drive on my macbook to screenshot my blu-ray lol
This is our transition into the first nola flashback
<Armand: Lestat stood on that stage, took all the familiar pieces of Louis's life, defiled them, bent them into a Lestat-shaped effigy.>
(Including this to show that even though Armand is co-narrating this part of the story, Armand was ready to discount everything Lestat said. He frames Lestat as taking 'familiar pieces of Louis's life' aka the events as Louis recalls them, and 'defiling and bending them' aka changing/misrepresenting them to make Lestat look better. Any representation of "Lestat's perspective" being valid/"true" is coming from Louis's mouth)
<Louis: But some...Some of it now...
Daniel: What?
Louis: I remember...being out of my body at the time. I was in Paris, but also in New Orleans. Lestat took me there.>
The flashback is Louis remembering things differently, not Lestat's own memory.
-Claudia's turning: Louis's and "Lestat's" account actually don't differ that much. Lestat has a few extra lines of dialogue and is more emotional, Louis tries to turn Claudia himself and begs more profusely, but the basic events are the same. Louis brings Claudia in as she is dying, begs Lestat to turn her and Lestat does it. Louis was near hysterical in this moment so he didn't recall it with complete accuracy. Not a lie!
<Lestat: But he was in a terrible panic. Guilt had seized reason. Claudia on the ledge of death.>
...
<Louis (at the trial, to Claudia and the audience, looking visibly confused): It's not how it happened.
Louis (in Dubai): It is how it happened. I didn't think it at the time. But...yeah.>
As Louis realizes he misremembered events, he corrects himself. We see him do this several times over the series. We also see him insist he wants to get "every detail right" and "wants to remember". Where are people seeing a lying liar who delights in lies???? The whole purpose of the interview is "truth and reconciliation"?????????
-Coffin room exchange: This is one of the most traumatic events in the series/Louis's life so I think it goes without saying that he wouldn't be able to recall it with complete accuracy BUT ALSO!! We see the domestic abuse in 105 recounted from Claudia's perspective. We go from Louis narrating Claudia's diary entry about realizing she was made to be Louis's sister, to her returning home and the ensuing violence as it was witnessed through her eyes. She can hear snippets of an argument but was not privy to what happened in the coffin room. The only part of this that is from Louis's recollection is when Lestat takes Louis into the sky, and we return to Claudia's perspective after Louis is dropped.
The coffin room exchange was omitted in Louis's original telling because it isn't in Claudia's diary entry. If you think about it in-universe, Louis is reading Claudia's diary to Daniel describing the violence breaking out - then they go into the coffin room, Claudia is slumped on the floor outside the room trying to catch her breath, and then Lestat bursts through the wall with Louis - when Claudia watches Louis taken into the sky, Louis would naturally feel the need to fill the gap of 'what happened' before he plummeted to the ground, bc Claudia is certainly wondering what happened in her diary entry. It wouldn't necessarily make sense for Louis to interject over Claudia's entry (describing her feelings at hearing them through the wall, being convinced the violence was over and attempting to recover and then her fear at seeing violence break out again) to say "hey also me and Lestat exchanged words in the coffin room", there just isn't a natural narrative gap there like there would be for Louis/Lestat vanishing into the sky.
But I think more likely Louis doesn't remember the coffin room exchange BECAUSE we see a flashback of it in 207 and as I've established, these flashbacks are Louis remembering things. They are not a direct line to Lestat's memories, because Lestat is not in the interview to recount his own memories, and even a memory he recounts during the trial is being recalled by Louis in the Dubai present. Outside of Claudia's diaries, we only ever have access to Louis's memories of things (barring 205). There is a clear slant towards Lestat's POV in the coffin room memory, so I think it's safe to assume it's Louis recalling the memory as Lestat presents it during the trial. Part of why I think this is the basic framing, but also there are a couple lines of dialogue from Claudia's POV in 105 that we don't hear in 207 specifically when she is sitting outside the coffin room:
this part we hear in both POVs
<Louis: It's okay. We're done. It's over. Stay where you are, okay?>
this part we only hear in Claudia's POV
<Louis: We had it out*. We just...[coughing] need a moment here. [coughs] Just...[gasps]>
The second dialogue time-wise lines up with a moment in Lestat's 207 POV when Lestat is panting on the ground and sitting up for a few seconds and all we hear is silence before he says "You're gonna leave me." The show could have had Louis's second dialogue here muffled or in the background or something but it omits Louis's words entirely to show that this is Louis's recollection of Lestat's remembered version of events, and is not entirely "accurate" either. Why would Lestat focus on/acknowledge Louis comforting Claudia in this moment, when he is thinking about Louis leaving him? He wasn't thinking about that, and his POV reflects that. I don't think the show forgot these extra lines or something, cuz they have the script and easily could have inserted them in the space where Lestat is silent but they did not. A deliberate choice to show Lestat's account is not the omnipotent "truthful" account, but is just one perspective.
(We also know that the coffin room exchange was included in the trial script to make Louis less sympathetic to the audience, because when Lestat says "I am burdened with my maker's temper" Santiago corrects him back on course by saying "Uh, no. You were teased until you toppled." The coven wanted this exchange in the trial script to frame Lestat's drop as an escalation brought on by Louis aka to victim-blame him and make Lestat look less culpable. So even if this is "truth" it is being presented with bias)
Also it is interesting that we get no reaction shots/commentary from Dubai Louis during this entire part. We see Paris Louis once before the "You're gonna leave me" starts and he's shaking and looking confused as Lestat speaks, but there is no assertion on Louis's part of "this is how it happened" or not the way he did with Claudia's turning. We don't even get a shot of Dubai Louis again until after Lestat goes off script to take accountability for the violence.
It actually looks like Armand was the one narrating this entire part to Daniel (Lestat's account of the violence-the coffin room exchange-the apology) because the next time we cut back to Dubai, when Armand tells Daniel that the projections went off-sync, Daniel is already sitting facing Armand and Louis is sitting silently with his hands in front of his mouth. It looks like Dubai Louis hasn't spoken at all since he told Daniel to go with Lestat's version of Claudia's turning. He doesn't speak again until Daniel asks him what he thought of Lestat's apology.
I'm not totally sure what to make of Louis's silence here...because I don't think Lestat fabricated the coffin room exchange. I think because this comes on the heels of "You should go with Lestat's version" of the other flashback we see, this is another instance of Louis going oh, okay I guess it happened like that, you can put that in the book too. But it is a more significant departure from what we were previously shown than Claudia's turning, so idk why they don't have Louis comment on it at all. Either way, Louis doesn't object to what Lestat is saying, which is at least a passive acknowledgement of the events as he presents them as reflected upon by Louis after the fact so NOT A LIE!
Anyway Louis has basically never lied in his entire life so I'm gonna need ppl to stop calling him a liar :)))) it would also completely undercut the main fucking theme of the first two seasons for Louis to be characterized as a ~~~~liar~~~ vs. a person who is being Monstered by Memories so if you call Louis a liar you are calling Rolin Jones a liar and I'm gonna tattle on you to Sir Jones so he won't let you watch the show anymore <3
*netflix subtitles this as "we had enough" but that doesn't sound like what he's saying to me and the netflix subs match the AMC subs which are notoriously inaccurate so!
#iwtv meta#??? kinda mostly just me yelling#also hate when ppl say stuff like Louis “lied” by never mentioning lestat being nice?? when yes he literally did?#if you think lestat was nice sometimes its bc you saw lestat be nice in the show...the show narrated by louis....#im thinking specifically of lestat comforting louis in 102 and being all cute when he had tuxedos made#like do u get that is louis telling daniel about a time lestat was nice??? how many times do we hear HE HAD A WAY ABOUT HIM#the talamasca does not have a drone camera in the past filming louis in 1911 Everything we see is something louis is telling us!!#i know a lot of ppl have this perception of liar louis from the books but thats bs#bc for one anne rice didnt write that first book planning to retcon it all later so as of book 1 everything louis says is true until it isn#AND FOR TWO.....when you actually read lestat's “corrections” of louis's “lies” none of them are actually louis lying????#lestat says “he lied” and everything he uses as evidence is “louis didn't know the truth”. you cant lie about something you dont know??#its all louis didnt know i was secretly rich cuz i didnt tell him. louis didnt know i only killed bad ppl bc i didnt tell him#the ONLY thing book lestat points to book louis as being misleading (by omission) is that sometimes louis begged him not to leave him#and sometimes they hung out with claudia and danced#ooooo king of lies book louis!! sometimes his abusive ex was nice to him!!! AND HE DIDNT MENTION IT AT ALL#but even those things wouldnt be lies if they applied them to the show bc show louis has described lestat being nice#and louis has described his own love of lestat at great length#its almost like book louis and show louis are operating differently in two different narratives with different goals in mind#bc theyre different characters and you shouldnt conflate them bc then you would see neither of them clearly#ok im done now time to be normal again <3
