Short Obey Me! Rambling
I absolutely LOVE when drabble writers make the demons, yknow… demonic!!!! Make them unsettling! Make them fucked up!! Like I know it’s an otome game but cmon! We’re talking about THE lords of sin AND the prince of hell AND an eldritch demon that is likely the first demon ever and has been around for millennia
Like… these guys are pretty, sure, yeah, but like… they’re not human. They’re not human. Make them fucked up. Give them gray morals. Make them do creepy shit. Give them more facets other than just their cuteness and their fluff.

having an issue where the more i discover games/books/movies that completely nail what i like, the pickier i become with stuff that doesn't reach those heights. starting to feel like i have to dig extremely deep to find the "good stuff" and my tolerance for things i find "meh" is practically nonexistent :(
(mostly with books actually. movies i've always been picky about so nothing's changed there, and video games keep hitting home runs for me.)

so, I’m not really the typical person who goes here, as a straight man who mostly reads fanfics for a couple stories/shows that I liked and wish there was more of. I’m not super up to date on the discourse, so sorry if this is poking a bear.
question: what’s the deal with fanfic about real people? Like, I don’t think this should be illegal or anything, you’re allowed to have sexual fantasies, but it’s weird to me how some people will absolutely go to the mat to defend posting this stuff. I don’t see the appeal, relative to how awkward it’d make me feel to read, write, or share.
I might just have some overall neuroses in this area, I honestly kinda feel mildly guilty for having sexual fantasies in general, especially about strangers or people who haven’t expressed interest in sleeping with me.
Like, you can imagine how a guy who feels awkward thinking about how hot Live Action Character A is, because irl she’s played by an actress who’s a real person and might not appreciate me lusting after her body, would find the whole idea of directly writing sexual fanfic about the actress in question extremely anxiety-inducing.
idk if there’s really a question here, just something that confuses me. Also, shoutout to the erotica fanfic writer community for making 18 year old me a much better lover than my socially awkward shy self might otherwise have been.
--
Wow, a unicorn. Haha.
FWIW, a lot of people find anything sexual awkward to write or post. They do indeed ask "What's the deal with horny stuff?" every five seconds. Should people waste time answering their silly "Why are other people not identical to me?" questions?
Asking "But why rando not = me???" is not less dumb just because you've picked a more perennially contentious topic.
--
RPF has been written since forever and posted since there was an internet. It has been a subject of vociferous debate for decades.
The vast majority of it, both in AO3y circles and outside of them, has always been about stage personas. Think kpop with its massively fake and curated media presence. Think rock stars on stage. Think youtubers who invite parasocial relationships for the money and clout. There is often more of a defined canon than you're probably imagining: that LOTR behind the scenes doc, kpop stars having literal reality shows where they all go to a cabin for a week, a youtuber's channel and their collabs.
Some tinhat wingnuts do escalate to stalking celebs, just like readers of tabloid rags occasionally do, but most RPF writers are just responding to a "canon" the way a lot of other fic writers do.
Many of these celebrities for the really intense megafandoms are ones whose money depends on intentionally inviting people to fantasize. They'll be coy about how overtly horny those fantasies should be, but "Imagine yourself spending a day with the band!!!" has been a staple of extracting money from teen girls since at least the 1960s.
Fantasies are not actions. It is fine to fantasize about people: famous people, hot strangers you see on the bus, people you sit next to in class who aren't into you. It's fine.
Why do people post stuff? Because it's fanfic and they're sharing with other fans of like tastes. I probably wouldn't post a story about a classmate, but about a famous boy band dude none of us will ever meet? Who cares? It's fiction. It's fine.

Rant/vent, feel free to delete I just need to get this out
I'm gonna be honest I feel like antis have ruined my ability to really gaf about problematic people
Like I don't care enough to look into controversies anymore about creators I like and if I do happen to learn the worst I'll say is "that's fucking awful" but I just. Don't feel anything the way I used to.
It used to be if I heard a creator I liked was a rapist or a groomer or whatever, I'd immediately stop interacting with their stuff and block everything about them, but now the most I'll do is just shrug and move on. Might feel weird around the content and might have it lingering in the back of my mind but it doesn't ruin the experience for me anymore.
I just don't have the emotional energy for that
It's like seeing all the "oh they're a bad person for drawing x" has like...minimized serious issues (for me). Serious controversies. And it doesn't help that antis place "proshipping" and "icky fictional content" as being a worse crime than actually awful, harmful things. They really show this in their callouts and how "proshipping" is always the focus of their discussions when talking shit about someone
(Ex: talking about melanie martinez, and all the focus is on that one nsfw drawing she made of a child oc or smth, but never do the literal rape allegations against her pop up)(idk if that's up to date)
My most recent experience of this (and what led me to this realization) is Tamakuz. Tamakuz has these two ocs (the ocs in question are Masarcik and Ushka from psychocuties) in an abusive relationship--apparently one of these ocs looks like a child to a LOT of people which I honestly had a really hard time understanding. Then I heard about them drawing these characters in a scene from the Lolita movie and one of them in a nazi uniform. Check em out, yup, they exist.
But after all of that, I was just kinda left there wondering "okay but what else is there? What's really the issue here?"
like the most I thought was about the nazi drawing, and while I definitely think it was done in poor taste, I doubt I know everything about it and all I really care to do is assume it was a joke made in poor taste and say "well it's fucking weird" and then just...not really care beyond that.
Idc if not caring anymore makes me a bad person, honestly. Maybe it's the depression numbing me, maybe it's the antis, maybe both. Idk.
(Sorry if I already sent in smth like this, i have the memory of a goldfish)

intro post (finally)
ive debated making an intro post because first off ive been on tumblr for two years and I never got around to it and secondly I am really really horrible at talking about myself because what is to much info and what it to little info and the cycle continues but im giving it a shot because I feel like my mutuals have no idea who I am lmao
HAI my name is Charlie im 16 (18+ I dont mind if you follow me but please dont dm me thank you :]) I use jasper as an online name kind of (at this point its just reserved for my best friend ace but I dont mind if other people call me jasper since I still love the name)
my pronouns are he/him but im also perfectly comfortable with common neopronouns (it/its xey/xem) if you wanna get funky with it.
im a self diagnosed autistic and ARFID (if you dont know what that is its an eating disorder where certain factors make you avoidant and restrictive of the food you eat and it has nothing to do with physical appearance. for me its linked to my autistic sensory issues(ALSO OCD NOW?!!? WHAT THE FUCK?!!?)) I have depression and anxiety and the only reason I mention this is because I relate my mental health to my fav characters in tv shows and books and stuff so if you see me posting about them like everything is connected lol
(my a03 is ghostwithfeet if you want to see me be silly and project my weird life onto fictional characters (I am the most inconsistent updater in the world please expect nothing from me if you even ask about a project it will scare me and like I turtle I will crawl into my shell never to see the light of day again))
my interests really vary about current hyperfixations but heres the master list
current hyperfixs
stranger things specifically Byler but mostly mike wheeler (this has turned into a special interest(I DO NOT support Noah schnapp or another of the other cast members who are in support of the inhumane actions the Israel government are doing. I am pro saving innocent civilians. I know that this can be controversial to be such a big fan of this show and honestly I have a lot of complex feelings on the matter but im autistic as previously mentioned and its my special interest and It won't leave my brain even if im not directly interacting with the media so im gonna yap about it on my blog thank you.))
also just Finn wolf hard for some reason (check out his band the Aubreys its awesome. also check out a recent movie he was in called when you finished Saving the world. it means a lot to me)
donna tarts the goldfinch book
old special interests/hyperfixs
the percy Jackson universe specifically nico di Angelo
the IT universe specifically reddie and Beverly marsh but more leaning towards richie tozier (see what I mean with the Finn wolf hard thing)
dead boy detectives !!
doctor who (I haven't even finished David tenants doctor yet so please no spoilers)
Alice oseman content (never read loveless or iwbft but ive read all of her other stuff)
paper girls graphic novel
other interests
the good place tv show
Kathleen Glasgows book girl in pieces
the walking dead comics including the clementine spin off graphic novels
um yeah thats all I can think of for now
my fav musicians/bands
florence and the machine
indigo de Souza
Kevin Atwater
searows
daffo
leith ross
Lowkey ive also been fucking with Sabrina carpenter
the Aubreys
sadurn
the cranberries
soccer mommy
runo plum
nep
lala lala
hospital bracelet
Chappell roan
AURORA
Madilyn Mei!
(my music taste is all over the place and is also very seasonal and I have a bunch of underground artists I dont listen to but I am here to give good recs I promise my playlists are fire)
we've gotten to the part of the intro post where im wondering if this is way to much information so sorry if I overshared idk but hope we can be silly mutuals or friends if you want (never be scared to shoot the friendship shot I would love to yap with y'all)
also since this is taking over my other pinned post I just want to put this as an honorary spot and let everyone know that my old pinned post was a quote from radio silence and that Aled last is me and I am him and the February Friday plot line is actually me and it makes me sick how much I resonate with that book

polywar dating hcs
- I mentioned before that I think Izzy is the one who thinks everything is a date, her preferred love language is quality time so for dates Duke always likes to walk home with her or just sit in a park together
- more often than not they will lose track of time and talk for hours. they never seem to run out of things to talk about either, from that movie Duke watched last night to the dumb meme Izzy scrolled past this morning or even a surprisingly heated debate over the objectively best pokemon (eelektross vs lucario)
- they'll always end up talking in the weirdest places too (like the middle of a roundabout or the elevator to a fancy hotel neither of them have heard of) but they don't really mind or notices when Izzy's hour 2 of her 'why all her partners need to binge watch cowboy bebop on their next movie night' rant or Duke ranking all his fictional crushes (Storm is number one followed closely by Ben 10)
- Duke and Dax have the most similar music taste of any of the group, most of their dates are looking around music store (cuz when your in a poly relationship of five at least one of you collects records) or going to live gigs together. Duke has consistently been to every single frown clown gig (except a few that he missed due to missions). Dax usually invites any of his partners in the audience onto the stage during the last song of every show and at this point any frown clown fans or regulars in the gotham hardcore scene recognise at least one or two members of the polycule.
- even tho Duke and Dax have the most similar music tastes Duke still prefers metal while Dax prefers punk music.
- Duke and Dax's first kiss was definitely at a batman's @#$& concert
- Dre and Duke butt heads most out of all the polycule, they don't really connect in the same way as the rest of the partners, and didn't really consider themselves dating until the polycule had been around for about a year.
- despite this they did work hard to improve their relationship and ended up falling for each other just as they fell for their other partners.
- Duke and Dre's dates are usually in the gym or doing some kind of physical activity, it started with Dre teaching Duke boxing when they were both robins and later Duke showed him fighting combos he practiced with Cass, eventually they started some different sports like rock climbing and trampolining (idk if those are considered sports tho) they always have this level of competition between them that they don't really have with any of their other partners. but it's sorta Duke and Dre's weird brand of love
- i think it was in my last post i mentioned that Duke has the weirdest date ideas, well Riko isn't far behind.
- a lot of the time their dates start out normal. they just rarely stay that way.
- like the time when they planned on having just a regular lunch date and ended up with them in metropolis, head to toe in superman merch and getting storage looks on the bus back to gotham. or that time they tried to recreate iconic kisses from movies and they ended up stuck on the roof of the wayne enterprises building with Harley Quinn and a box set of Powerpuff girls.
- people outside the polycule never believe them when they explain their dates to them but Izzy, Dax and Dre have gotten used to the special brand of chaos that comes with Riko and Dukes dates

So shady sands got nuked by a random vault dweller because his wife took their kids, and he wanted his kids, and he was mad his wife found a settlement when vault tec was supposed to be the ones settling the surface…he was mad the ncr “did vault Tec’s job before they could” so he blew…the fucking ncr’s main settlement up
I wonder if it’s like “oh yeah he was a protag of his own mind pretty much” kind of jab but even then it leaves a bad taste in my mouth? Because it is insane video game writing and it’s definitely insane bethesda video game writing, but it fucks up a very integral part of two major games
And I hate how much like…yeah the BoS is back to being technocratic and more cult like in the show but it’s also still praised kind of? And the random, and I mean RANDOM, nonbinary BoS member that’s there for like, 20 minutes was just…a waste. A nonbinary person that really does nothing but just be there and hurt themselves to forward the narrative of the cis het protag. Honestly they’re there to piss of the conservative gamers but I’m not conservative and I’m pissed shady sands and the ncr got did dirty like that so in the end every fallout fan is mad
Like…the ncr went from a huge mega power that is basically a country, to being blown up by a dude? And they don’t mention the hoover dam and how maybe they were weakened from the legion/ncr conflict…which would’ve made it believable. Nada. They just say it this guy blew up shady sands so I guess it happened. It’s canon.
They just made the ncr seem so small after fnv made it feel so big and menacing in its own way with hundreds of named npcs with stories and it was so gooooood and they made it feel like a shitty dinky settlement comparable to fucking…like…diamond city
Idk it’s like 5am and the final episode just pissed me off. They should’ve just set it in New York or Florida and made up new factions instead of establishing canon endings to the most favored game in the series. Or they could’ve done a prequel to fo4 if they wanted it to tie in the games so bad.
The ghoul also has the best scenes and story but I’m…idk the drugs suppressing the “feral” disease is also a weird thing. It’s new to the tv series and what only in la? What’s it made of that no one else makes? And why the fuck did he have to eat someone. I liked the scene because it was kinda just neat to watch in a way… but it’s like “oh he’s a ghoul so he eats people whoOoOo” They never really…explain…if he like…needs meat or something and idk. I dunno. And cold fusion? Like what. Wha…uh. I fucking hate the idea of power being harnessed from tiny object. It’s just a lame McGuffin they can pass around. I would rather it be like…they’re fighting over a wind farm to harness power and they need like a scientist/engineer to fix it. Something that feels big and really.
Anyway, I’m fine with watching it until I think about it, and then I don’t like the plot. So it feels like fo4 all over again but I’m more mad because I feel like it ruined fnv’s ending. Which sucks. So personally I do not see the show as canon but as like, fan fiction to like…maybe a independent/house/legion ending for fnv when the ncr is super week and some guy just bombs it…because he’s mad at his wife.
Big ooof, a 8/10 until episode 8 and then it’s a fat 2/10…one star for goggins making another badass ghoul in the series and one for the dog

This is highly unlikely to happen BUT imagine the show Wife Swap (old american reality show from the early 2000s). I never saw a single episode and don’t intend to but the premise is simple (and really weird lmao): two wives from vastly different families swap households for a while. Shenanigans ensue.
Anyways, there is not a chance in hell Crocodile would let his basement wife anywhere near Doflamingo, but imagine some devil fruit fuckery swaps basement wife and the family pet temporarily. Everyone, except for Doflamingo maybe, will be having a really hard time until wife and pet can be located and brought back to their proper places
Oh, anon if only you knew - the German version was a huge part of my tween years, mainly because of one specific meme that came out of it (Frauentausch-Andreas)💀 The thought is so fucking funny, though. Idk what it is about dark content with a crack-treated-seriously twist, but it makes me laugh.
tw. crack treated seriously, noncon (only for Doffy), basement wife is fat + fem, family pet is gn as always
Tumblr media
Oh my god, call that basement wife's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. You thought your cartoonishly evil pseudo-husband was bad? Hah, you know absolutely nothing, you stupid little thing. When Doflamingo scrapes you out of the crate instead of his little bipedal dog, he's confused - but he can put two and two together, and quickly at that. Obviously, you're not some assassin (really, what kind of strategy is that? Killing one of his family, making the body disapear and then wait for him to appear? Hilariously bad, honestly), not some spy and you really, really aren't the one who's supposed to sit in that cage. And when you start crying the moment he asks you what the hell you're doing here, he knows this isn't intentional. At all. Another once-over, a look at your weird little outfit, at the clunky stone on your hand and it clicks - he only knows one man with a similar taste in clothing and jewelry. Would you look at that, it's Crocodile's well-kept (and apparently not-so-little) secret. Reality can be stranger than fiction, huh? He's real nice after that epiphany. Too nice. Sits you down with a cup of tea like you're old friends, seats himself across from you, legs perched on the table while he smiles. Chats. Laughs. Acts overly familiar. It's bizarre to witness - but he's trying to glean what exactly you, the little teary-eyed butterball you are, offer Crocodile over him. Really, he's a little hurt: you're drab and soggy and soft in more ways than one, you cower and snivel in front of him like some beaten dog. The only fact that saves you from being mind-numbingly boring is that you're immensely valuable to Crocodile - and it makes ideas pop up in his head. He really likes the way you're stunned into silence when he suddenly uses his powers to immobilize you, right as you're in the middle of talking. And he gets why Crocodile keeps you around when you're bent over the table and he fucks you until you're just a sobbing mess. It's at least a little different from his usual endeavours and he takes his sweet time with you, leaves some evidence for the other man to discover later on. Once the mix-up is solved, Doflamingo hands you back dressed entirely in pink and with a thousand yard stare in your eyes. Will ask Crocodile about you every time he sees him from then on, a shit-eating grin on his face while the other almost loses it.
On the other hand, family pet does pretty well, considering the circumstances. I'd even argue it's the best you've been in years - because someone is treating you like an actual person, for once. Even if they aren't being kind. Crocodile is wary, of course - every single member of Doflamingo's posse is not to be taken lightly - but he also knows you. The fucking bird dragged you into official meetings enough for you to be a familiar face to him. He's furious, seething, beyond angry - but it's not necessarily directed at you. Doflamingo has to be behind all of this, he's sure of it, and you're just the collateral. (Admittedly, weird collateral, as you're the apple of Doflamingo's eye, always kept on his arm, cooed at, just treated like some ghoulish human pet, but who knows how the bird works? He sure as hell doesn't.) He'll probaby try to squeeze some information out of you (and when that doesn't help, he'll just plop you into a seastone cage and try to solve the mystery on his own. Yeah, he almost killed you minutes before - but then again, maybe you're worth something? He can always get rid of you later, maybe you do still have some value... He's feeling a lot of emotions, give him a minute.) Really, it's not that bad. You've been through worse. When everything is cleared up, I think he'd even let you take a bath and feed you a proper meal (on a plate!! A plate! Not a bowl!) before he'll trade you back in for his weirdly apathetic looking wife...

I feel that there’s a world of difference between “fandomizing real world politics and tragedies” (in my understanding - applying ‘fandom’ to, well, real world politics and tragedies eg. shipping war criminals or writing rpf for victims of traumatic events) and “making fandom art which acknowledges real world politics and tragedies” (in my understanding - political cartoons/art with a particular flag/etc.).
I’m not saying that the latter can’t be insensitive or in poor taste depending on execution but also…idk it’s weird to see tumblr activists freaking the fuck out over art of dunmesh senshi bringing food to Gaza. I can’t believe that’s the hill you want to kill (your own allies nonetheless!) on. We have people writing smut for about specific IOF soldiers or shipping Palestinian journalists, like, is the comic imagining a fictional character showing up to help people in a horrific situation really what you want to call tone deaf and insensitive?

not to dunk on the fandom but... the constant replacing of a character's name with similar words and leaving out his face when drawing him in fanart and leaving several comments along the lines of "I'm so sorry you have to cosplay [character]" as if it was a monumental burden, all of that JUST because that character happens to be the "villain" of the story who has done some very vile things?
I've literally never seen that happen to any other fictional villains/bad guys as long as I have been in fandom spaces and I've been here since sometime in 2008. I'm just. very confused and that treatment leaves a bad taste in my mouth. sure, at first it was funny and somewhat understandable. but seeing these sentiments EVERY TIME the character is mentioned? kinda stops it from being funny ngl
is it because the character is Just A Regular Human Man at the end of the day instead of a funny cartoony guy in flashy outfits putting on a grand show and being so over the top it'sobvious it's all fictional? is it because it hits too close to home for some people, because they know someone similar to that character in their personal life? is it the aggressive and violent knee jerk reaction cultivated over the past years/decades towards people who commit these crimes in real life manifesting in this fandom?
idk...
just...
can't help but feel weird about all of this.
anyway.

Would you be willing to tell us what you liked and/or disliked the most about the books you've read in April? What got you into them, why you stuck around?
-🌹
yes I'd love to!! I love love love talking about the books I'm reading
so while the graphic I posted only shows the titles of 3 books I read, I read 4 total books in april. one of them I'd started in march and finished on april 1st (Human Acts by Han Kang) so it only 'kind of' counts for april but I'll answer for it anyway. so going in order of what I read:
(I yapped a lot like usual so I'm putting this under a read more)
Human Acts by Han Kang (I gave this 5 stars)
this is probably the best book I've read so far in 2025. I read The Vegetarian by Han Kang back in March and while I enjoyed the metaphors at hand, it was a bit too surrealist for my taste? idk I need to try to get more into surrealist 'weird' fiction I think. but Human Acts wasn't like that at all. Human Acts is a historical fiction novel that deals with the Gwangju Uprising in South Korea that happened in 1980. I never knew much about the Gwangju Uprising or the wave of fascism SK dealt with in this time period in general so it was both fascinating and horrifying to learn about the violent oppression people dealt with. the story goes between several POVs of people who were connected to the uprising in various ways and it's just such a raw and brutal look at the suffering this government caused, and also how, even though things are better now, the fight against fascism isn't over. the writing is just really raw and human and I wish this novel of Kang's got more attention because it was truly such an incredible read.
Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner (4 stars)
way back when I was in uni for my creative writing minor I took a few classes on nonfiction writing, and in one class we had to read a lot of personal memoir essays. one essay we read was Crying In H-Mart, back when it was just a solo published essay, and it was heartbreaking and beautifully written and I just loved it. I've really only listened to a single song by Japanese Breakfast so it's not like I was a huge fan of hers, but her writing was incredible. so when I heard she expanded that essay into a full memoir I knew I wanted to read it. the way Zauner intertwines talking about her complicated relationship with her mother, her struggle to find her cultural identity, and the connection she's always had with her family through food was just really fascinating to read about. also the book just made me really want to hug my mom.
Normal People by Sally Rooney (4.25 stars)
this was my first venture into reading Sally Rooney and I really loved it. normal people is an in depth look at how messy and imperfect human connection can be but sometimes you find someone you just click with and you'll never be able to get out of their orbit. more than anything my favorite part of this book was Rooney's writing style. there's just something so addictive about the way she writes people and relationships. I can't wait to read more from her.
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green (3.75 stars)
disclaimer: I haven't read a John Green book since 2014. as a young teen I, like many others in my age group, loved TFIOS and Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska because I always got the impression that John Green respected the intelligence of his teenage audience more than a lot of other YA authors did. now I've been trying to get into reading nonfiction so when I heard John Green had shifted towards it I was a bit interested, but really I just stumbled across this book at my library and impulsively decided why not check it out? TAR was written during quarantine in 2020 and the novel makes no effort to hide that. the book is styled as 'reviews' of different aspects of human life, like sunsets, our sense of wonder, the penguins of madagascar, piggly wiggly—and while a few of these individual essays really hit, a few of them were a bit mid for me. but I really liked some of the insights John Green had in a few of them and saved a lot of individual lines from this book. I read it because I needed to read something hopeful about humanity and our future and this definitely gave me a renewed sense of hope about some things.
to sign this off I'll throw in one life from TAR that really struck me
"We all know how loving ends. But I want to fall in love with the world anyway, to let it crack me open. I want to feel what there is to feel while I am here."

why am I just discovering Pink Floyd at 19 at midnight I’m such a loser I have the music taste of a middle schooler and I found this kid who I really liked and then I found out he was already dating someone and he referred to them as his partner which probably means he’s gay which doesn’t change anything but he’s the strangest dude I’ve met in a while first of all he’s a lot smarter than me and it makes me feel embarrassed so I act dumber around him and that makes me feel better about myself for some reason idk I’ve just always been the smart one so it feels weird secondly he likes to go to these like abandoned buildings and sit on ledges that are like 40 stories high with his friend and he showed me these breath taking pictures and that’s when I realized I’m mediocre at everything and I’m so plain when this whole time I thought I was the coolest person alive and he’s got this long hair that I just wanna brush cause it looks so brushable I bet I could put a nice braid in it too but that’s wrong to say cause that’s for his partner to do or something but if you saw his hair you’d think the same thing and I fell in love with him when he was explaining halbach arrays to me and then realized he didn’t know what he was talking about and I think that’s so funny and he’s got this real funny laugh don’t worry I’m like super respectful I just gotta talk about this dude bc he’s so weird when I first saw him he had duct tape on the corner of his glasses like what a fucking nerd he’s got nice hands too and he likes indie folk music like me well who doesn’t but dammit after he showed me those crazy pictures where he was dangling off skyscrapers I realized I couldn’t show nothing cool about myself but the bad thing is this bitch does not like fiction he isn’t into any novels or movies or nothing and I just. Idk need a confidence boost so anyways back to Pink Floyd he says he say cool graffiti of some of the albums in a storm drain and that’s when I remembered I’ve only listened to like one of their songs also he’s got adhd and is dyslexic so we always are talking and getting distracted and it so much fun but yeah I’m listening to Pink Floyd rn and it’s ok I can see why people like it so much it’s like the Beatles but more dramatic and rockish and it’s got this very abstract psychedelic feeling? I should go to bed oh also he’s helping me with my project and he laughs at my jokes. But maybe he thinks I’m an idiot idk okokokok brain calm down it’s not all that why do you always do this to yourself all the creepy guys and girls try to go after you and all the cool people are in a relationship

I just got the weirdest hate comment. Basically, this woman who has loved all my stories and commented on them for months found out I'm a cis man. And now she hates my F/F stories. She's now decided they're "fetish fuel" for "your lesbian kink" and "you probably write with one hand down your pants".
None of these stories have steamy scenes. One, I suck at writing those. A lot. A lot a lot. Two, the women are busy saving the world. That's stressful and stress makes some people's horniness go way down, so I always assumed they wouldn't be in the mood until the villain is defeated, you know? Three, some of these stories have middle school aged characters and I find people older than me hot, so I have literally, truly not thought once against their sex lives. I assumed they were going on dates like I was at 13 - movies, hang out at the mall, playing video games, that stuff. Nobody I knew was getting laid at 13. (I didn't get laid until I was 20, personally, but idk what the statistics on that are.)
So it's really weird that she's suddenly angry at me. I know most of the fans of the show are women. I get why she assumed I was one. Totally valid. Statistically that makes sense. It's the jump from "you are male" to "you're getting off to this" that I don't get. Don't get me wrong, I know some guys like F/F and some women like M/M. But liking writing/reading something doesn't mean you get off to it.
(Also utter side tangent but I don't like her using lesbian to refer to bi characters. That's... not how that works. Bi people don't become straight or lesbian or gay depending on who they date.)
Can someone explain to me? I think my neurodivergent ass is missing a lot here and I'm lost.

Radfem nonsense.
Look up lesbian separatism as a political thing to find the sorts of women who think all men are inherently suspect, dangerous, predatory, etc. Some of them are also TERFs and think trans women are men and predators, but this general attitude on gender happens even without the transphobia.
Basically, she thinks you snuck into her exclusive clubhouse and got your cooties on it.
Some femslash fans do view this type of fandom as an expression of their identity, not just a thing they enjoy, and being confronted with the reality that it can also just be a fiction taste and the space isn't all people like them making a space for people like them can be upsetting. She's being a jerk and not responding to your actual work or your actual self, but if you want to know why, that's why.

I found this interesting books ask :
https://www.tumblr.com/dnana-2809-blog/749706502296813568/bookish-asks?source=share
Do you mind if I ask, no. 13, 14, 15, 18, and 50? Thanks...😁
thank you! i love talking about books :)
13. name a book with a really bad movie/tv adaption.
i just finished another book by celeste ng so the one that springs to mind right away is little fires everywhere. imo ng's biggest strength is that she writes about identity politics in a very accessible but nuanced way and the show adaptation just took all that nuance and threw it out of the window. my personal little nitpick is that they turned the mc who is aroace-coded in the book into a bisexual. yes, one could argue that her ruminating on how she can't help her daughter deal with romantic heartbreak bc she has never been in love herself is just a throwaway line but it's one of those lines that completely reframes the character and makes everything we learned about her make more sense in hindsight - that is, if you're open to seeing someone as aroace. if not, as a reader, you will assume she has probably had relationships which she just never mentions bc they're not relevant to the story (see: dumbledore rollerblading in every scene). as a showrunner, you will fill in those alleged gaps in her romantic and sexual life with bisexual drama which will give you more content for the show's runtime, if nothing else. so that is an interesting example of aroace erasure - it's not intentional but the fact that a person's deliberate lack of love life is something they, consciously or not, decided just not to represent speaks to a larger problem with aroace rep. if you straightwash a queercoded character people will likely notice. if you allo-wash an aroace-coded character no one will even blink.
14. name a book where the movie/tv adaption actually was better than the original.
i can't think of one that is better than the original off the top of my head but there are some adaptations i'm attached to much more than i like their source materials. the lord of the rings movies, for example. a re-read of the series i did a few years ago proved to be a slog but the movies will forever remain a special quality time i can share with my dad. the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is another example. i know for a fact that the fans of the book don't like the adaptation but i'm biased bc it's one of my comfort movies and i don't get why the book is supposed to be better, despite having read it two times🤷‍♀️
15. what book changed your life?
all for the game changed my life bc by reading it and becoming part of the fandom i have discovered the aroace spectrum and realized i'm on it (on the far end of it, in fact lol). i'm pretty certain the same couldn't have happened via just learning about asexuality from some educational materials bc neil's headspace and the subsequent frustration with how he got twisted in fanon were essential for my aroace awakening🖤🩶🤍💜💚
18. which character from a book is the most like you?
lol idk. i think if i encountered a character who is a lot like me it would make me so uncomfortable i'd erase this from my memory immediately. so instead of an answer please kindly accept this meme i made for my friends and draw your own conclusions😅

50. why do you love to read?
i read for escapism. that's why entertainment and immersion are the main two factors that make or break a book for me. granted, i have weird tastes and often find entertaining the things other readers find boring and vice versa. and i like when fiction is so immersive i can feel my soul leave my body and get transported to a different world, a different life. bc of this one might think i yearn for adventure but that's not true - i love my boring life and i love the illusion of control one has as a reader compared to the lack of control one often experiences irl: if the adventure is not to my liking i can simply close the book.

omg!! which girl do you identify with the most?? what are your opinions on the men (mainly big, but also interested to hear about the other men)? what are your opinionsssss i just finished it for the first time and i'm obsessed
Back when I first watched it I thought Samantha. As I’ve got older definitely more Charlotte. I would say I’m still a mix of the two. I’m a traditionalist like Charlotte but I’m more like Samantha in terms of my humour and lack of filter 😂
When I watched the series the first time I loved Big. Rich, charming, way too old for me - just my type. I am embarrassed looking back. I mean he’s just…Peter Pan. He’s Nate Archibald, a finance bro…he’s The ultimate situationship. He’s every guy who despite their narcissistic sense of self importance knows they aren’t worthy of the women they want (the Natashas of the world) but they try anyway. But those women don’t worship them enough, they don’t make him feel special because she’s the equal he asked for but in reality can’t handle. Those women force him to own up to his own irrelevance, they make him realise he’s not actually Patrick Bateman, he’s just a guy. And that feeling of inadequacy leads them to settle for the girls like Carrie who give them that adoration they crave. Except the Carries aren’t what they really want or what their narcissistic mind tells them they deserve, so they punish them with poor treatment, and keep trying ensnare the Natashas but can’t live up to the men they pretend to be so they hurt the Natashas too and return to the Carries out of self loathing. Let me tell you, there’s Bigs everywhere. And they’re small. They’re the smallest men who ever lived.
Aiden was just a Carrie to Carrie. The thing she settled for when she need to feel special because Big took all the power away from her. Insecure and a doormat. Hate him.
Harry is THE MVP like the way this man just absolutely killed it at every turn I cannot 😭😭😭
Steve was the perfect guy for someone, but not Miranda imo. Genuinely good guy and she didn’t deserve him. She resented everything about him. She liked the little things about him and not the big things and that’s really sweet when you’re 19 but I don’t know how you build a marriage off the fact that you like his quirks. Idk I did not get their opposites attract thing at all.
I feel like both Samantha and Carrie had too many seasonal guys to remember. I do remember Burger though and all I can say is that Burger was Carrie’s karma. He was her taste of the tortured artist crap she made everyone else endure the whole time. That needy emotional disregualtion was what everyone in her life put up with and that was her comeuppance.
Oh and the Russian. The Russian. I can’t even…that man did not feel real to me. He honestly feels like a fever dream. He was the only long term character that felt so incredibly fictional to me. There were traces of things I recognise, but the most real thing about him was the way Carrie changed around him. That was like…almost dark to witness. Because haven’t we all seen that happen? A friend hooks up with someone markedly more mature or sophisticated than them and their whole essence seems to dull. I didn’t even like Carrie’s essence but the way that man sucked it out of her was palpable. But like…why was he so weird? Why did he behave like that? He was just so…dry? But also a wet blanket? But also just someone who did not have the charm to act like he did. Like I LOVE an old rich man and even I would not have dated that guy he was so icky.
That show was such a moment in time though. I sort of wish we had something like that for the modern era but also don’t because you can’t make shows that authentic and simultaneously unrealistic anymore.
It’s such a trip to watch in the digital age though 😂
I popped off a bit here hope you don’t mind
