a shadowgast headcanon (II)

Essek, uncertain in this fresh alliance with the Cerberus Assembly, on edge as Trent Ikithon leads him on a tour of the Sanitarium.

He listens with mild interest as Trent boasts of the fortress's wards, the magical advancements his researchers have made, assuring him of the security of the Beacon in the Assembly's care.

As Essek walks through the winding sterile corridors of Vergessen, two steps behind the Archmage of Civil Influence, he glances to his right, through the bars of a cell door.

Essek's eyes fall on a man. Hunched in the fetal position, beaten, starved, half alive. Scars peppered across his forearms. A curl of dirty red hair peeking between white knuckles. Murmurs of madness in a language Essek does not speak.

"Is there a problem, Shadowhand?"

At the end of the corridor, the old man raises an eyebrow.

"Not at all."

And Essek turns away.
