retribution, missouri breathes. the town is an organism, and the organism is infected with inertia. buildings are built on top of buildings. nothing is destroyed. people don't tend to leave. in the fall of 1987, the town begins to crack.

retribution, usa is a collaboratively written work of fiction, using slasher and monster movie tropes to tell a cosmic metahorror story. expect eternal men who can't stop dying, women born from their deaths, late-night drive-ins, recovered housewives and their shadows, nameless detectives, rotting apples, rival towns seeking subsumption, small-town trans rage, the best friends you will ever have dying in the worst ways you can imagine, farm girls quietly writing the script, and, as always, a monster in the woods. this blog will evolve as the story does, and serves mainly to archive visuals, quotes, and themes associated with it. currently, this blog is run by pearl.

This is a strange read, and curiously, there are three or four highlights for me, and they are not exactly the ones you would imagine.

Spoilers after the break...

The first story by Kevin Eastman is in the Mirage section of the book but... well... I'll leave at that... I wouldn't call it the Mirage we knew.

There is a story by Lawson and Lavigne with the Rat King that... it's fun. But, you know... I wouldn't even try to fit it in canon... the amount of continuity physics you need to bend to place this story is not worth the time. Just enjoy as a new story by these two iconic Mirage artists.

This other story by Tristan H. Jones and Paul Harmon requires more analysis. I'll revisit it on my gang wars video and try to give it more context... but unfortunately... it's just too vague. All I can say for sure is that it happens in the future of that incomplete saga, but the narrator just takes too many artistic choices to be taken at face value.

Also... I believe this is the first official (frontal) appearance of Agent Bishop (unless I got the character wrong, but Jones already tried to introduce him in this saga). I think he is still holding on to it, and I really hope he gets to tell his story. I wouldn't mind a mini-series... just saying!

The Volume 3 story was... not for me. The dialogue alone felt tired.

The Archie adventure was short, eventful, and funny... and it looks amazing too!

In just four pages a new character was introduced and... a new love story was implied! And it's not just a gratuitous cameo... this is a funny sequence.

The Saturday Morning Adventures (the de facto 87 story) looks amazing as usual, but I didn't find the story that interesting. However, it started a theme that would run across most of the stories in this special after this one: Master Splinter.

The 2003 story is a... loose canon?

Hun is Slash, and Shredder is back... so make of that what you want. All I'm going to say is that this felt a lot like watching the beginning of a 2003 episode, with the narration setting the tone.

The 2012 story was one of the least interesting in the previews, but I have to say... it was probably one of the best. It brought back a villain and it technically serves as an excuse to continue the series?

But to me the best thing about the story is the art. I am surprised Ciro Nieli didn't do more comic book work for the Turtles all these years. In fact, if they somehow decided to continue the 2012 universe in 2D in this style... I'm all in. Well, who am I kidding... I would be in anyway... but this looks amazing.

Andy Suriano did probably the most interesting story in the book. Now, I am not sure if his style doesn't translate well to static panels or what the problem is with the comic format... but it doesn't matter... this small story brought in a lot of things that ended on the editing floor after the show's second season was reduced to a few more episodes. There was a rumor about a female turtle, and not only it is here in all its glory, but there is also a brother?

And come on... it's so Lou Jitsu to die with a cliffhanger.

There are two IDW stories. One is another Splinter story, but the other one is perhaps one of the best in this book.

The Ronda Pattison story takes place just before the Armageddon game, and it shows the five turtles in full sibling dynamic (even Jennika). It was refreshing to see these turtles having fun for a change.

There are no stories by the new team, but... well... that's just starting.

In this AU, and in this given time frame, the UnderRealm aristocracy is made up entirely of either monsters or spirits who were born and raised in the UnderRealm. Lore (What's Different from PM/OFMD?)

Grinny/Oscar - The child of a feline-monster from the UnderRealm, and a half Taino woman from Puerto Rico. His mother was dragged to the UnderRealm by his father when she was a young lady, and lived in an abusive situation with him, until Oscar kills his father when he's 12. He runs away from home after this, and joins the crew of Captain Doyle (Hornigold for this AU - I have yet to draw another version of him for this AU, so here's @oakmovies rendition of him on IG). There, he meets Sam and Shadowlurker, and after they mutiny Doyle, he goes on to make a reputation for himself as the feared monster pirate Captain Grinny.

Jeff and Liu - Since Black Pete and Jim Jimenez in OFMD are not at all blood siblings the way Jeff and Liu are, but I was already set on them being these characters, I've created this backstory for them:

Jeff and Liu grow up with their family on a blood orange farm in St. Augustine, when one Christmas night, a gang known as the Siete Búhos attacks and kills their entire family. Instead of killing the siblings as well, they mutilate them, and set Jeff, and the rest of the farm, on fire.The two siblings manage to run away from the burning farm, and are taken in by a Satanic Nun.

The Nun raises them to master the art of killing, but only for the purpose of revenge. Jeff, however, has a different idea, and uses his new skills to rob and kill people for money. The nun acts to kick Jeff out of the convent, but Liu refuses to be separated from their brother, and leaves with him. Eventually, they meet Eyeless Jack, who gets them a job with Spanish Ann.

However, they find out that one of her husbands is the leader of the Siete Búhos, so one night, they get him drunk enough to restrain, torture, and kill him. After Ann finds out about this, she puts a price on Liu's head, and Jack has to escape with the two siblings, where they then join Widemouth's crew among The Retribution.

oh great question anon! to be honest, i am not sure who was my first oc since i can't recall a time i wasn't making one (it was likely for an anime or something). nevertheless, my first ever public oc on this site was my riverdale oc, darcy delgado. i have not done much for her since my interest in the show slipped, but she is still around hehe.

5 facts about darcy delgado:

she was originally a jason ship and love interest for archie, with sweet pea being her end game. however, i think her true soulmate is cheryl after a fun au edit it made. x

delgado is technically not her real last name since her ancestor stole the name and identity of a friend

i had a whole fic for her planned out that i never wrote sans a prologue i posted ages ago

polly was a friend of hers before she won jason's affections in spite of knowing of her own

Rhys was born and raised in Kismet Harbor. He has three other brothers. His older brothers are Donny and Abel Morgan, while Archie is the youngest.

He has always been creative. Rhys has always loved to draw, as well as creating things, over sports. Much to his father’s frustration. He was a part of the high school newspaper, in addition to the high school yearbook, as one of the photographers.

After finishing off high school, Rhys applied and was accepted to UCLA Department of Arts where he studied photography, despite his parents wishes to either become a doctor or a lawyer. He had originally compromised with them that he'd be studying something else in addition to photography, however he didn't go through with it.

College in California was a blast for Rhys. Being from a small town, he embraced the big city and its potential to try further his photography career, to its fullest. Attending parties and various gatherings almost every single week, both college and none college related.

It was at one of these college parties where he initially met Valeria Delgado. The two did anything but hit it off, as the two butted heads from the start, and whenever the two ran into each other throughout college since.

During his second year, Rhys did a semester abroad in the UK where he attended Cambridge University. Here he ended up as the room mate and eventually close friend of Aindreis Blythe. Despite the two occasionally partying together it wasn’t until Rhys had started receiving a number of concerning phone calls about his roommate needing to be picked up from nights out he didn’t attend himself, and was always highly intoxicated when doing so, that he started to worry. Rhys eventually decided to reach out to his family to express his concerns right before his semester in the UK ended considering he was leaving to go back to the states thinking it was the right thing to do at the time.

After graduating UCLA, he started working as a freelance photographer, working small and odd jobs here and there to get by. He was close to deciding to return to Kismet Harbor, when he was booked in last minute to a socialite's wedding after their photographer had to cancel last minute. His work was published in a magazine, and things kind of took off from there. Traveling became a part of his life, loving every minute of it, only returning to Kismet Harbor to visit family during the holidays. He's travelled all over the world, mainly working for various magazines on various projects.

About three years ago (2021), after booking a surprise trip to Vegas to visit his brother Abel (whom he could not locate at the time), he ended up running into Valeria again. After butting heads as always, the two got to chatting and ended up getting drunk together while reminiscing over their college days, before they ended their night together hitting the casino’s; as one does when in Vegas.

Something else one apparently does in Vegas, is to get drunkenly married. At least that is what the two realised the following morning and despite deciding to apply for an annulment, the judge decided that the two needed it stay married for at least three years before they could reapply for an official divorce. This was not a decision either of the two were particularly happy with, but they endured by staying married in paper while living apart.

For convenience sake, seeing Val was headed back to Kismet Harbor anyway, Rhys agreed to let her stay in his apartment above his photography studio. That way the two would at least share the same legal address should they ever need to document their attempts at proving the authenticity of their marriage before a judge. Rhys has still to this day not yet disclosed about his marriage to anyone, and acts very much as if he is single.

It wasn’t until recently, when Valeria had him served the signed divorce papers, he decided it would be time to return to town. Little does he know his life is about to change on more ways than one.

Like I said, Dan Schoening’s art of the Sonic cast is neat as well, and he continues his 3D influence by basing the Green Hill Zone background on its Sonic Generations literation. Its not the most expressive art I’ve seen, but the panels are genuinely cool with showcasing Sonic’s speed and the change of scenery.
