Lavender Song Holiday Short Story- Let's see the Lights!

It's a tradition, while I was growing up, to go on walks on Christmas Eve night to look at the decorations and lights in the neighborhood! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Alphy...?" Gloria and Alpheratz were hanging out in his dorm room on Christmas eve. The sun has already set on the horizon, with light snow fall outside. There wasn't much snow to do lots of snow activities as the sorcerers ended up learning earlier in the month. Alpheratz sat in a massive beanbag chair he had with Gloria beside him, watching some Christmas shows they play in Arlyn Bounds. Gloria had a cup of hot chocolate. Since it was cold, they both had a blanket over them as they were snug on the beanbag seat. "Yeah?" She hesitated for a moment to say what was on her mind. "Please don't laugh..." Alpheratz shifted to give her his undivided attention. She continued. "Can we... go on a walk in the neighborhood...? To see Christmas lights and decorations...?" Alpheratz raised an eyebrow at that, "Out in the cold..?" Gloria nodded, "Yeah... it's... kinda a tradition... I want to share that tradition with you..." Damn it! That was enough to get Alpheratz to have a slight red hue in his cheeks. He sighed, "Fine. Just bundle up, we wouldn't want you getting sick again, alright? As much as I don't mind taking care of you, I'm sure you wouldn't want to be sick on Christmas." Gloria let out a happy squeal! Sure enough, it was cold... They walked down the street, a spring in Gloria's step. Her body wouldn't stop moving from how happy she was to be out! Her hands failed as she hopped up and down whenever she saw a house that did have decorations in the Central Bounds. "Alphy! Alphy! Look! Look! Look!" This would be draining... if not for the fact Alpheratz was happy to see her genuinely smiling. Stress was usually all Gloria could think about at times... Her classes were getting more difficult to pass in. Training for the dragon games has been tough when the dragons are stubborn from the cold. The gossip and rumors among the students were still fresh in everyone's minds. Day after day after day, Gloria was getting more and more tired in her expressions. Honestly, so was Alpheratz. But for once, they both felt more relax. "ALPHY!" Gloria ran down the street. Alpheratz called out to her, "Hey! If you run! You'll slip!" Sure enough, she stumbled a bit, but managed to regain her balance. She had run to a house where the decorations where flashing in sync to some Christmas music playing. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she watched the decorations, allowing Alpheratz to catch up to her. They both stood there, taking in the scene. Gloria softly spoke after a while, "You know... I sometimes forget why this tradition is so important to me..." Alpheratz turns to look at her as she continues to talk. "I can't remember when this first started. I think my family have always gone out to see Christmas lights ever since I was born. Every time I see them... I feel happier. A moment where, as a kid, I can forget the cruelties I had to suffer... and I can feel like a kid seeing magic." "A moment of peace," Alpheratz soon spoke up, "A moment where nothing else matters, but of the present." Gloria turned to look up at him, "Is that why they say 'today is a gift'?" Alpheratz chuckled. They turned back to the decorations. "I.. sometimes feel like my childhood was taken from me, Alphy. So seeing the lights, lets me let the inner child in me finally feel like a kid." A shiver runs down her spin from how cold it was, which prompt Alpheratz to wrap his arm around her, pulling her against his warm chest. A flush of red dusted her cheeks. "At first... I did think this was childish," Alpheratz shyly started, "But, I don't mind doing this every year... with you." Gloria smiled wide at that. As the Christmas music kept playing, slowly they both started to sing along to it, laughing in the process when they messed up a bit.
