Why is it good?: There's an amazing image editing that really gives you the feeling you're watching as 'anime's got talent' show instead than as AMV, with funny bits and surprises and a spectacular ending. It can't be helped it's a must see.

The second season of Arakawa was simultaneously better and worse than the first one. As I went into detail in my first review, I’ll just compare the two.

Ok, so what was better? The animation improved quite a bit, it was much more quick-paced, what I would have originally expected from season 1. This one also has much more emotional and bit more serious moments (not too serious though) which I appreciated.

Now, for the bad. The second season goes fucking balls to the wall with the random humour. The skits and scenarios feel like they last much longer than in the first one and they are more “HaHa RaNdOm” than actually funny jokes which...obviously there are a lot of people who love that type of humour and the first season had a lot of it as well but...the jokes were weaker, I guess? In my opinion, at least.

There’s also a big main plot that gets introduced a few episodes in which I was fucking hyped about and liked the direction it was going to take. I looked forward to its conclusion...and then there wasn’t. There was no conclusion. It was the biggest letdown in all this. Maybe they were going to resolve it in later seasons but. There are no MORE SEASONS! Looking it up, there were about 140 chapters left, which would’ve been perfect for one more season but it just didn’t happen. It’s a shame but this is an anime so I expect at least some sort of a closure.

Lastly, the extra characters and the romance. 3 characters who didn’t really appear in season 1, actually hang out with our main gang this time around and they’re fine. Their presence isn’t a dealbreaker nor does it spice things up in a major way but they were somewhat fun. Now, we get 2 new characters here. One shows up and he seems to have something to do with our main plot but then he just fucking disappears and we never see him again. The other new one is fucking annoying and creates a low...square? Which goes absolutely nowhere and was just annoying to watch.

Listen, if you really liked the first season I could recommend it however if it didn’t leave much of an impression on you then this one won’t change your mind one bit. [6/10] (x)

Miyuki Sawashiro - Song Recommendations

Let’s all take a moment to appreciate one of my favourite voice actors (English and Japanese) ever. She has one of the best voices to bless you with an insult, and she’s part of one of the best rom-com (mostly comedy) anime that I’ve watched: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. That link is to some of Seo Yuzuki’s best moments. The cast of that show is incredible, and it has my two favs in it playing my two favourite characters in the show. I haven’t written a “Top Five” favourite roles for her yet because I want to watch a ton more of her works before I even begin to think about doing that. 

These are my favourite songs from her so far. I can only fit five in video-form, so there are some in link-form below. They’re not listed in any particular order.

Here’s a COMPILATION OF HER SONGS

This anime is strange, quirky, and full of great seiyuu. It has all your classic “Shaft”-style animation shots, and the humour is so out-there, that a lot of people get lost trying to grasp it, and this song is no exception. This song has no direct translation I think, but it is a classic example of how she can make anything sound smooth and seductive. 

I don’t know why the visual is of her character in Kokoro Connect, but this is a song from the anime “K”. It sounds like someone told their mom, “I made an anime.” Then they just respond “K.” Either that or my mom is the only person who uses “K” casually. Anyway, it’s a great song from an anime I haven’t watched yet.

Speaking of great anime I haven’t watched, Hunter x Hunter has a badass named Kurapika. This is his character song.

One of the reasons why I like Miyuki Sawashiro is because she voices a lot of complex badass characters. This song is originally from Kiki’s Delivery Service I think. 

Bishamon is one of my favourite characters from Miyuki, and she has her own song with Kazuma! Jun Fukuyama has great chemistry with her in both Noragami and Durarara. But I noticed that Noragami seems to make characters shippable, but it always makes it between people who you kind of think “shouldn’t get together even though my heart says otherwise”.

I couldn’t get into the Monogatari series, but I really respect the seiyuu in this series.

My Song - Angel Beats! (Inserted Song Performance)

I still remember this song faintly in my mind as I have a flashback to a few years ago when I first watched Angel Beats. I remember her strong soulful voice singing this song with only a guitar to accompany, and it’s still quite a nice song.

if you're expecting mappa to be in this list, i'm apologizing in advance because it's not :") this post is entirely to gush about studio shaft so thank you so much for asking this question. dw there are other studios after i finish my studio shaft spiel:

let me tell you guys how the love story between studio shaft and i began. i was a child watching shoujo kakumei utena and i fell in love. it was... so unlike any other anime i’ve watched as a child, especially when i was watching blue dragon, pokemon, and naruto in the sides. it had a female main character, had homosexual undertones that made may or may not pushed me further in the closet, but most of all: it was unique.

enter: arakawa under the bridge was an experience. then sayonara zetsubou sensei. god. but at this point, i still haven’t pinpointed that they were all from the same studio. and then, here comes the monogatari series.

the monogatari series will always be the greatest pieces of animation (and by that, i don’t necessarily mean plot but the animation itself) in all of the shit that i watched, and when i say i’ve watched lots of animation, i mean lots. but the monogatari series will always stand out as the best. the thing about good animation that i’m searching for is a distinct style that you can see from afar. this is actually one of the reasons why i don’t really consider mappa as one of my top animation studios because while they’re amazing, and they really are, it’s not the type of animation that you glance at and then go “ohhh, it’s mappa” unless you sit down for a couple of minutes. well, you can, but i’m the type of person who prefers metaphors over descriptors, you know?

anyway, studio shaft’s animation of the monogatari series is ingrained in my writing. i always want to make my writing look and feel like the monogatari series which is so hard to do, but i can proudly say that one of my main inspirations is studio shaft.

mahou shoujo madoka magica. my sweet. this is the time when i finally recognized studio shaft’s animation and it was the best feeling ever. the head tilts, the framing, the backgrounds, the sudden texts. the tragic and confused atmosphere. and then nisekoi. i also recognized the animation and yes, it was also the best feeling ever. and i was obsessed with nisekoi for the longest time and to be honest, i was one of those people who fought in the comments section of chia-anime and fighting for team chitoge.

a dream come true: mekakucity actors. i was the biggest fan of the kagerou project and when i found out studio shaft was animating it? i wanted to bawl my eyes out. of course, it was beautifully done as i expected, and of course, as a fan of kagerou project, i was disappointed by how it ended, but still, the point is: studio shaft.

some notable animes from studio shaft: mahou sensei negima, sangatsu no lion, kino no tobi, maria holic, ef, uchiage hanabi, etc. etc.

some other studios i like and my favorites from them:

i love the storytelling of brain's base the most. while i love studio shaft for it's style and uniqueness, brain's base storytelling triumphs over all studios. period. if studio shaft is my favorite animation, brain's base is my favorite storytelling!

the point is, this studio is big and famous. why am i even promoting this. everybody knows this studio already smh.

anyway, madhouse also has most of my favorite animes of all time too (AHEM sonny boy AHEM) but everybody knows about studio madhouse already. toei animation, kyoani, etc, etc.
