This afternoon's breaktime tea: @arakaiestate Premium Green Tea, 2017/2018 harvest. The leaves were ... darker than usual. That's usually because - due to humidity - they have to kill-green (read: fry) the leaves longer and hotter. If you don't know what you're doing during this process, it could lead to a harsh, bitter, vegetal brew. . . Luckily, not the case here. This is the sweetest batch I've tasted yet. More depth, too. Apparently, Facebook told me it's the birthday of a certain purveyor of the @arakaiestate. And, purely by happenstance, I found a bag of 2015 prototype pan-roasted green tea from there... and damn, it holds up. . . Yes, I'm drinking green tea for once. Don't look so shocked. It's Australian.
