I know there is something in how Ares, the most hated God in Olympus, who is despised even by his own parents, is beloved only by the literal goddess of love.

And there is something also in how Aphrodite the goddess of love is one of the only gods, who was born not from the act of love but from the act of hate, from the act of violence, vengeance and betrayal.

My toxic trait is that I usually end up liking the characters that fandom/community excessively hate on and deny them the nuance and understanding that they readily give to other characters (who are often just as terrible lol). Sometimes I do it out of spite, sometimes because I feel sorry for them and sometimes because I start appreciating them genuinely.

Has anyone else noticed that Ares lines in God Games mirror a lot of Eurylochus doubts throughout the earlier sagas? Especially the line about Scylla, and how it follows Aphrodite’s calling him a coward for spiting the Cyclopes. I just think it’s an interesting series of events. And it does stay tonally consistent - he’s a warrior of the mind. The important thing is looking at a situation and deciding the best course of action based on intelligence, not just killing everything in sight OR being motivated exclusively by lust/love. It’s a fun comparison between Ody/Athena and Eurylocus/Ares.

I often worry about why the gods spend time interacting with me and other people.

I feel I am lesser than them, and like… why would a god hang out with a human?

But I think honestly..it’s just such a pointless question to worry about. I could wonder all day every day and use my worries to invalidate my own practice. but it wouldn’t change anything.

Because they are there nonetheless, because they have answered questions and prayers. And because I can feel their love and sometimes their displeasure too.

Whether I feel worthy of these interactions really is irrelevant at the end of the day. Because they are happening and I should just be happy for that.
